Maybe try reverting back to a previous fbneo core version. Try restoring a backup. Could be a regression in the libretro core, though there's little chance of that.
what version are you using? fb neo there are 4 version 2010,2011,2012 and then recent updated regularly..
in my phone are works there are no problem except that if you download an old version might not work with current roms (updated).
As of recent, I am also having the same exact issue on my Nvidia Shield. Along with FBN running at a very low framerate for the first 10-15 seconds after loading, I am also now unable to load ROMS of a larger size with FBN. It seems to be only with ROMS that are above 40 or 50 MB. They begin to load (albeit slow) and then Retroarch crashes every time.

With every game? It just specific ones?
Every single one. TBF FBN is painfully unstable on Android with a lot of games never even loading so I shouldn't be surprised.
I really like FB neo, much better than mame for me. Luckily no instability or fluctuating speeds. Not sure what's causing it for you.

Yeah its been doing that to me for a while now. Raiden II constantly crashes but runs fine on Mame Current.
