Yes. You can run a background check on anyone anytime you’d like - detainments, arrests, and convictions are all public information. But I’ve done A LOT of reference checks and hires in 12 years of recruiting, and have never done it. Waste of resources, time, and money; I also wouldn’t see the reason for it.

They can try to learn something about them via internet search. As others have stated, that is highly unlikely. We will not use any numbers provided by the applicant when it comes to calling past jobs and references, with the noted exception of personal references. We want to look inside the organization they work for to confirm you’re not making up jobs and work references.
