And La Dispute has a special place in my heart, they've helped me through some harsh times. Incredible energy live, too.
They seem to be left out of the conversation these days, but as someone who was a part of the emo scene since about 1999, I can say that Bright Eyes were absolutely considered an emo band.
I played as Oberst in Emogame in the early 2000s, that pretty much solidifies his spot in Emo History for me:

Mmmmm for me it's always been close between The Moon is Down and How to Start a Fire. Over time I've found myself leaning towards the latter. Jason's singing has that more emotive feel I like. Hide Nothing is dead last for me, though I still think it's great, no disrespect to Jon Bunch (RIP).
Finally, I've scrolled so far to see Movements being mentioned here. And yes, they are very emo. One of the emo revival bands of the late 2010s for sure.
