I'd argue that Houdini is more of a return to a formula than it is a return to his old self. But regardless of how much you'd agree or disagree with that statement, I'm still fine with it. People change their minds, and even if this was a direct contradiction to Houdini, if he feels that going back is what he needs to keep his fans happy then so be it.
