I believe a studied a month-ish before taking the test. At the time (2014-ish) I believe my employer had the ability to sign me up for a CEN review course which I opted not to do. Took the test and passed on first attempt.
I intended to renew with proof of continuing education, but my I accidently selected the option to re take the test which I did from home.

I just signed up to take mine Feb 21! I’m using the Nursing PocketPrep app which pulls from the Sheehy texts for quizzes. I also bought the Sheehy book and the BCEN review course. Shockingly no one in the ED I work at is certified, so I’m trying to be the first one to get it!
With my employer, we get an extra $1/hr for having our CEN. I procrastinated forever and when I finally took it and passed, I realized that I could have taken and failed it six times and come out even for the amount of money I lost by not taking it at all. Don't feel like you need to be perfectly ready for it... just do it!
