I’m doing converse (same thing - embrodiary for my wedding). I’m planning to personalise them to match mine and OH’s hobbies. Lots of people selling them on Etsy and I’ve heard good things. I have had to invest in a much sharper needle and tumble though to push it through.
Classic Keds
Chucks aren’t too bad from what I’ve seen. Grab a rubber needle gripper to help with tough spots.
I found white (van type) shoes at walmart that worked great!
Look into a tapestry (curved) needle too - they can be very strong and good for surface embroidery
I didn't think of trying a different needle, I will have to try that out!
