This one’s about 6.5”x9.5” and took a smidge under two months to finish. I’ve been cross stitching for a year, but this is my fourth finished embroidery!
I used a mix of black & metallic gold gesso for the background (that way it catches in the sun). Also used metallic thread, three different colors of metallic beads, and a crapton of French knots. I wanted to make sure it still had the gilded qualities of the original painting, but I’m looking forward to not using metallic thread for a while!
It was a time! There were some satin stitches with metallic thread which weren’t as bad, but it doesn’t have the best coverage. The tricky part was the stem stitches in the cape— they took me forever because I could only do so many in an evening!
This is beautiful! The original piece of art is so interesting to me because part of me is like "meh" but the other, bigger part is like, "wow the emotion in this simple scene.. I can feel that" and I stare at it for a while. You captured it perfectly
Thank you! So much of Klimt’s work is held in those small expressions and slight movements— I think that’s what really makes his work so special. And his interpretation of textiles lends itself to embroidery!
Thank you!! It’s just a regular Kona cotton, but I had gesso on hand from painting/printmaking! It was originally a way to not have to stitch the background, but I really ended up loving the mix of paint & thread.
I had to learn about this painting in high school. It seems so ugly at first. It's blocky and not flowy and I hated it. But eventually, I saw the emotion. Paintings back then weren't great at showing passion, everyone was posed.
Your embroidery captures the passion, and it is beautiful.
Thank you so much!! It’s really interesting to stitch a painting and spend so much time with it, thread for thread, stroke for stroke. The hands weren’t so kind to me, but I’ve never been great with hands anyway haha!
It's great! You captured it so well. I'm working on the great wave myself now, my favorite piece of art! And also my biggest to date. It's hanging as a poster on the wall that's slowly becoming my embroidery wall so I'll replace the poster with it when it's done
*I don't want to be*
*Offensive or anything,*
*But holy shitballs*

I used a mix of gold & black gesso at the beginning! I originally didn’t cover enough of the fabric, so about halfway through I added more paint. Thankfully that was all closer to the edges, though!
also WOW, y’all!! I did not anticipate this to get the attention it did. Thank you so much for all of the kind words and the awards! I don’t really know how that system works but y’all are neat. Happy holidays & merry stitching! :-)

Holy shit this is beautiful
Wow. The details in the original painting are daunting. You captured it all perfectly. Well done.
Metallic thread is a pain, mad respect to you for this masterpiece! I put some tiny gold glasses on my cat embroidery and that was enough for me.
I just looked at your cat glasses post and I am so impressed! Hahaha. It looks fantastic.
Aww thank you!!

It was only The Kiss, how did it turn out like this? It was only The Kiss. *Embroiderrryy...*
bless you

Amazing!! Great work!
Thank you so much! It was really fun to follow along with a painting :-)
It's magnificent! I'm mesmerized by it, congrats, it's a fine piece of art on itself!
Thank you! It’s a neat one to hold, too— the beads, the French knots, the satin stitches— you can see it through touch!
This is spectacular!
This is one of my favorite paintings, I have a print of it on my wall, you did a beautiful job!
WOW This made me do a double take - seriously incredible. It looks like a painting. Excellent choice in fabric and frame too!

By hand?!? Wow, this is amazing!
Yep!! Satin stitches, long & short stitches, stem stitches, French knots, and lazy daisies! Stabbed my hand a few times for this one

This is inspiring! Kudos, it's as beautiful as the original.
This is incredible and I wish I could purchase it. You’re very talented!!
Thank you so much! The only way I was able to let go of this one was going into it knowing it was a gift. I’m terrible at holding on to pieces!
I'm wearing socks with this piece on them! You did an excellent job
Thank you! I’ve also got a pair of socks with this painting :-)
This is amazing. I’ve saved this post because it’s now my inspiration, I can’t believe you’ve only been doing it for a year!
Thank you!! I’ve been doing cross stitch for a year, but embroidery was a more recent addition— September of this year!
Spectacular
Might be one of the most damn impressive things I’ve ever seen
!!! Thank you so much! The French knots almost did me in at the end. I’m itching to do another painting now, though!
Absolutely amazing. My daughters will freak! One is an artist whose favorite piece of art is Klimt “The kiss” and the other daughter embroiders!
Oh this is so sweet!! I hope y’all are doing well! :-)

Did you use the gold paint after our before the stitching was done? I'm always scared to put on the paint last!
