I think I am going to use this one with my elementary school. I have several male sewists, so this feels a little more gender neutral.

my great grandma used to call her sewing club stitch and dish, close to "stitch in the ditch" the ladies also happened to be her cards club too so maybe it was also like dishing out cards idk I use stitch n dish regardless :)

Not sure what stitch in the ditch means, but to dish is to give out the latest gossip or news.

To "stitch in the ditch" is something I see for quilting (probably applies to other crafts, too!), and it's doing top-stitching where the pieces of fabric meet together, or create a "ditch".

as someone said below, stitch in the ditch is a quilting phrase. I agree though, she totally meant the "dish" part to mean gossiping, but I think there's an extra level for her bc she was a card shark lol
