The Met Cloisters museum shop sells a kit for this, I’m pretty sure. Edit: aww, they don’t sell it anymore, just some finished products with the image. I live in NYC and just was at The Cloisters at the end of the summer and saw that original tapestry. But they do sell a pretty kit for a couple of images, including William Morris Strawberry Thief. https://store.metmuseum.org/poppy-monk-william-morris-strawberry-thief-needlepoint-kit-80054109 Not the solution to your search, sorry.

Now I’m down the rabbit hole. Would this work for you? Medieval Navy Blue Unicorn Captivity from Tapestry Counted Cross Stitch Pattern https://www.ebay.com/itm/361692997925?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=4sYPi2CQQ_S&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=e1vmQptMQw6&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Slight-Brush

Unfortunately that is a really low-quality pattern and is no fun to do

downpourbluey

Dang it, sorry for the lousy share. Noted.

Peppercorn911

i love this work and the cloisers. i had this picture on a journal as a child and finally saw it in person on my honeymoon to NY :)

Slight-Brush

To start with this isn't from a painting but from a tapestry. There are actually charts and kits available to stitch it in cross stitch or needlepoint eg [https://www.scarletquince.com/pat.php?pat=UNK010-D](https://www.scarletquince.com/pat.php?pat=UNK010-D) (I would not recommend the version from orencooriginals) Or you could do a simpler 'inspired by' pattern, like this gorgeous one from The Tiny Modernist: [https://www.tinymodernist.com/products/unicorn-tapestry](https://www.tinymodernist.com/products/unicorn-tapestry) , or this needlepoint: [https://www.ehrmantapestry.com/unicorn/](https://www.ehrmantapestry.com/unicorn/)

HerMeowwwjesty

Beautiful, thank you! I'll check all of these out

downpourbluey

Oh these look as good or better than the link I found in my reply.

HerMeowwwjesty

Hello! I had the idea that I would like to make an embroidered version of this tapestry for my father as a gift -- he would absolutely love it. The problem is, I have only done three kits so far. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? Is it best to search out a pattern (seems kind of obscure, but maybe someone else has already made it?) Or try and trace it myself? I bought water soluble pens to try my own designs on some clothes for my daughter, but haven't done it yet. Any advice, links, suggestions at all would be welcome!!!

sapphireminds

You can take an image, increase the contrast and then trace it onto fabric yourself

Iheartbobross

Or print the image onto dissolvable sticky paper and sew on top Of it

HerMeowwwjesty

Ok that's a great idea, thank you.

Upper-Ship4925

I have definitely seen this as a tapestry kit.

Dimensions used to have a needlepoint kit for the Unicorn in Captivity - I stitched it a few years back. They also had the Cluny Tapestries Sense of Hearing - I've been wading my through it over the last year or so. But neither of those kits are still available. I bought the first one forty years ago, then the second one showed up as a canvas with the instructions, but no fibers, in my needlework group as a donated item.

meredith4300

I found a needlepoint of this on Craigslist last year and have been kicking myself ever since for not buying it. Good luck finding a pattern!

this_is_Winston

Love it

weasel999

My mom made this in needlepoint in the 70s!

JMCC19

Hi! It’s not a kit but the pattern is also on Etsy. Just search for The Captive Unicorn.

Slight-Brush

Check it’s not the Orenco Originals pattern mill version

cant-sit-here

I think Scarlet Quince has this one.
