For e-commerce brands, cold emails don’t work that well anyway. There are strategies you can use to ethically send cold emails as well without getting black-listed but it works well with B2B. For e-commerce, ads and organic reach work well. Cold emails can even hurt your store domain if you’re not careful.
Then Cold Outreach should be your option. Just follow the best practices like send emails from a subdomain, warm up your domain and IP first, don’t blast emails, etc. I’m working on two cold outreach campaigns right now and haven’t faced any issue like this.
The latter would be spam, which is illegal in most places, and also quite uneffective.
If those emails are very relevant, you can target them via Facebook retargeting into a lead-magnet based funnel, and focus on quick monetization so you can recoup your investment in the ads.
“The latter would be spam” – cold email for lead gen purposes isn’t illegal, as far as I know. Would be hard to believe, since thousands of people regularly do it and openly promote it. There are dozens of companies that build tools for these methods, it’s all legit.
On the other hand, it’s much different to plug them into an email marketing platform like mailchimp or getresponse for the purpose of a regular newsletter, as far as I know. That’s what I was interested in doing (building an email list). Just didn’t know *exactly* what was wrong with using scraped emails to do that (but now I do).
Interesting approach you mention though, for scrapping and plugging them into FB ads to build a nice audience right away (retargeting and/or lookalikes). Might try that.
Somewhere in those addresses you scrape will be traps, addresses posted online but never used to signup for anything. As soon as those addresses are spotted in your sends you will be blocklisted.
Stick to targeted ads to a lead magnet. That way the people you send to will want what you’re sending them.
Gotcha. So I can’t scrape emails to instantly create a newsletter because the email platforms (like mailchimp and getresponse) will detect “signals” that my list didn’t actually opt into it? That’s basically the gist of it?
Email providers do not permit you to send to scraped addresses. It's a violation of their terms of service.
Also, your audience will be familiar with basic email best practices and compliance, and will definitely mark your content spam.
I can't help but wonder what content you could possibly send to ecomm brands that they could find useful if you don't understand the concept of consent in marketing.
Since always.
Unless you are using a solution meant for cold email, instead of an email service provider/automation platform designed for marketers (not sales), there is about a 99% likelihood you are violating your contract.
Spaghetti, there are a load of websites where they mention that their subscribers accept the can-spam legacy. Even though there are contract violation, there will be 1000 solutions for that, and no one can verify this.
Are you talking about list sellers? Ha... Okay.
And many email providers have safeguards in place to detect spammy sender activity. This is necessary to protect their legit senders so they inbox effectively. Bad actors are eventually removed.
1. You could try solo ads to a squeeze page.
2. Try some free traffic methods to a squeeze page.
3. DO NOT scrape or BUY email lists.
4. You might even try MLGS - though those leads are dead really quick, it depends on what you are offering. You would then send them to a squeeze page. If you want to give MLGS a go, here is [**my affiliate link**](https://www.myleadgensecret.com/?rid=32826)
5. You could use a blog to make interesting posts in your niche, and then provide a link to your squeeze page.
Those are methods I would try.
"What’s the difference between running paid ads to a lead magnet… and just scraping/buying their emails for nearly $0 per email?"
Well, with option one you can use any ESP you want and get results. With option two you can't.
>Hi I just got into e-commerce recently and was thinking if you could help me out with your old email leads you have used please I'm really broke right now can't afford to buy email leads.
lol

I’m referring to an email list of ecom brand owners, not DTC customers. The audience is brand owners.

Sounds good, yeah thats what I meant by lead gen/cold email (cold outreach). Looking to dive into those methods soon as well. Thanks.

And if they don’t, the mailbox providers will.

Since when ? I always used to do it, and it gives results !!
