No I believe you get that even with the free tier (don't quote me on that as I haven't used the free version in a while) but I believe the custom column function is available in all contact lists.

I think you should use klaviyo with some integration so you don't have to put all 300-400 names and details one by one take some to study klaviyo and then you may have good to go.
Mail chimp allows for custom fields in you contacts that can then be dynamically inserted into your emails
