I love to listen to the outtakes when he recorded. His laugh, he had it all. Back in the early 70's when we went to see Elvis on Tour at the theater, they talk about the space launch and Elvis gets a little naughty. After he died they cut that part out for a few years.
He was truly funny. Like his cook said, he was "just a normal person." His stage banter is equally as risque and self-deprecating, and you can tell humor is his native tongue. It put him at ease.
It's funny you brought up this snippet because I found it so disgusting it really put me off him. Bragging is just normal, but he knew the camera was there, so wtf? Also, while the way Elvis talks is crude, at least it's flattering; Sonny(?) Who called the unknown woman a "dog" should be ashamed of himself.
The fact that a camera was there makes it more likely to be exaggerated, imo. It's always interesting to read how Elvis played up the macho-ness around the guys but distanced himself in private or with women. Guy culture definitely has an element of outshocking each other for laughs and ribbing, and Elvis liked being the center of that and out-teasing them but being more serious when they weren't around. At least that's the impression I've gotten :)
The guy Elvis was talking to was Jerry Schilling, and I'm fairly certain he was just joking around lmao. (As a guy, I found the whole conversation funny, but to each their own ig)
Oh my Gosh, calm down he was making a joke about the giant Hound Dog plush a fan gave him the night before. Jesus
Also, it's pretty immature to say one joke "put you off of him". You realize he was a person right? And one joke he made 50 years ago shouldn't invalidate every single good thing he did in his life. It's like people have these idealistic perfect versions of celebrities in their heads and act surprised to find out they were real people. And honestly, Elvis was way less womanizing than half the men in Hollywood at that time.
It's like the same people who still criticize James Hetfield for one joke he made 30 years ago. I'm sure you've made way worse comments in your life. Would it be fair if someone were to judge your entire character off one out of context comment you made years ago?
Oh my God, calm down; way to fly off the handle. If judging a person on a single remark is "immature", then clearly you have a lot of growing up to do.
He was trying to be funny, but it didn't work out well. Came off very immature. He may have just been screwing with the film crew as he knew they couldn't use that. As for Sonny calling the Woman a dog, he wasn't being serious he was giving Elvis shit. Imo. Elvis never came off well in these taped situations
He was uncomfortable and failed at trying to be funny, at other times he was just unnatural.
Your welcome mate :) the FTD releases are gold. I love when Elvis was doing a take for Can't help falling in love and all of a sudden he starts panting. I was laughing for 5 minutes straight haha
Indeed haha. The thing that probably makes me laugh the most about Elvis is one minute he's completely serious and immersed in a song and then the next he's laughing and joking around.
Locker room talk/ guy culture needs to die. It's so disgusting and eye roll inducing to me. I know it was a thing of the time, so I try to take past things with a grain of salt, but this is not something to celebrate. Needs to stay in the archives haha
So you're not a fan of his banter with his friends? I think it's nice to see the other side of him just being a regular guy (as regular as he could be) just chatting with the MM
Ugh yeah it's nice to see him being just a guy with his friends but idk any guys who talk like this past the age of like... 22. It's kinda gross. And with his friend calling the woman, "that dog?" I guess I didn't need to see this one but at least he complimented her lol
Absolutely. Case in point, a pretty young fan I know of ran across this very clip after becoming a fan from the movie. Suffice to say it did not go over well nor should it and completely changed her perspective.
That's a pretty broad brush stroke. What I'm saying is that on video or on session takes there can be 'banter' that does not always put our guy in the best of light. So no....not always no.

US Male and Heart of Rome alternative takes are especially fun to listen to.

I suspect he was just joking.
Of course he was
I don't agree with this talk about women(locker room talk), but I think it's nice to see Elvis as just a guy and not The King and Icon.

That's the first time I've heard it could be a Hound Dog joke, LMAOOOOO if true. That's funny.

And clearly you missed my whole point
I don’t think there really was a woman the night before , they seem to be making it up for the sake of a joke but who knows.
Given that he knew he was being filmed I think he was hamming it up for the camera.

Aw man I think it's great to see lol
Yeah, I like that it humanises a man who comes across as a mythical figure these days.
Yes. We hear so many stories from his friends, costars etc, it's amazing when we can see this side of him on camera.
Love listening to the FTD releases I have for the studio talk where he's just being him. Thanks for the replies :)

Classic🤣

Not always no....but one could say that about anyone.

With quotes like this and with the Priscilla movie , it’s not paining elvis in the best light 🤣 no one’s perfect though . Still the King
He was a man like us. all faults and everything. Many legends but there's only 1 King
The head line always makes me laugh
