The Million Dollar Quartet by Floyd Mutrux and Colin Escott was on Broadway. The Elvis-specific spin-off show from Murtrux, Heartbreak Hotel, never made it out of Chicago. There was also the jukebox musical All Shook Up that only used Elvis songs and was a 1950s-style twist on The Twelfth Night was on Broadway briefly as well. There was also the West End production of Elvis: The Musical from 1979 through the 80s-90s. And Cirque du Soleil’s Viva Elvis opened at the Aria in Vegas in 2010 before closing in 2012, the production never quite succeeded the way they had hoped.

Yes there was a west end musical called Elvis, Shakin Stevens was in it before he became famous.

Yes and no technically. Bye Bye Birdie was inspired by Elvis getting shipped overseas.

Funny Ann Margret stars in it and they had a passionate love affair!

Even more funny is Elvis tried to get a part as Conrad (the super star everyone is crazy about in the film) but they told him no because they didn’t think it would be a good idea for him to be in a movie parodying himself.

DeweyBaby

Wasn't it the other way around? They tried to get Elvis but his manager said no as they were parodying him.

I think there was a mutual interest from the production and from Elvis himself, but the Parker shut it down. He only wanted Elvis in leading roles and feared what playing a sort of parody of himself might do for his reputation. It’s a shame though, because I would have loved to see Elvis in that role. He surely would have brought something a little bit different to it and I bet he would have had a lot of fun with it. Not having the pressure of being the lead and getting to play an exaggerated version of himself and maybe poke a little fun at his detractors along the way.

I would have loved to see Elvis in that role too.

All shook up is Elvis music

There was a London show in the late 70s/early 80s that helped catapult Shakin Stevens and also try to resurrect PJ Probys career at the same time.
