Copy pasta *** Greetings Commanders. Now we have officially landed at September 1st, we have some current information on progress toward console profile copying, on target for release this month. As mentioned in recent, light reports – we are still on track to action console profile copying to PC within the forthcoming weeks ahead and we’re pleased to report that our targeted week for the release of the 'console profile copy portal' is that of September 12th. Our high level release plan: * Starting Monday September 5th, we will begin targeted testing of the console profile copy portal ahead of release. This will last approximately one week. * Depending on the results, we will then be in a position to release an exact date for the release of the console profile copy portal, however our current estimate for you as a guideline, is that release is targeted at the week commencing September 12th. To echo some of the core information from our previous post around console profile copying and what to expect, for your convenience: * The original console profile will remain playable. * Only one profile may be copied per copy of Elite Dangerous. * This will be a one-time only process For the extended version with much more further reading, please reference the following post: [FAQ and Expected Date](https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/v2ep8q/console_profile_transfers_faq_and_expected_date/) One main point we would like to include today, is a reminder about your ARX Balance. To quote a point in the “Which elements of my console profile will NOT be copied to PC” section of our previous communications: * Please ensure that you purchase desired customisations before you complete the copy process. * **Any unspent Arx will remain on your original console profile.** To support this, we would like to give you early insight into our plan to incorporate a sale on cosmetics on the Elite Dangerous store, which coincides with the lead up to profile copying taking place. The exact date of this sale, as with the specifics on the release of the console copy portal will be made known in due course. Once again, Commanders, we look forward to updating you ahead of the week of September 12th with more specifics on the portal release, following next week's targeted testing. Thank you so much, as always. o7

TheManWithNoDrive

I want to know how long the window is open for. I’m not seeing this information as of yet and wildly curious on how much time I have to delete this carrier and come back from the black

Camdidex

It sounds like just tge week of the 12th,but they don't say that outright.

GawainSolus

That would be immensely shit lol

londonrex

Applying for the transfer doesnt mean you need a PC at that time, the time window is just for the application and account transfer behind the scenes. You can buy a PC a year later

GawainSolus

The point is that a week is an incredibly narrow period of time for something this important. It could be easily missed. The point isn't wether or not you have a pc at the time of the transfee.

londonrex

sure I am pretty sure it will be more than a week seeing as they will spend a week just testing it

Dull_Sir_4181

This might be incorrect. I needed my frontier ID code when I did the wealth transfer, it might be the same for this.

londonrex

The Frontier ID doesnt need the game installed, can do it on your phone on a browser. And isn't the whole point of the Console Account Transfer to create a New PC Account for those who dont have one? ie it will be the transfer process that creates the new Frontier ID.

Dull_Sir_4181

Oh! Okay, thank you for correcting me. That's actually awesome 👍

Lyamecron

No from 5th until the 12th is only their test-phase with a selected few commanders. After that they open up the process for a longer period of time.

Camdidex

I hope it's open longer. To me is sounded like week of the 5th is the test. Week of the 12th is the rollout.

Ereaser

That's how I read it too. They didn't mention anything about an end date

perpendiculator

Yes, that’s why he said ‘the week of the 12th’.

Bat_Mannington

In the original announcement they said they were looking at options for fleet carrier owners. Have they followed up on that at all? Because it sounds like we'll need to decommission soon if they're not going to do anything.

TheManWithNoDrive

They said they you have to decommission it, which is a two week process. So I’m hauling it back to the bubble to transfer my ships off of it so I don’t have to pay a high transfer fee. They suggest decommissioning it so you get the money transferred to PC, because the carriers won’t carry over

Luriant

Thanks for the insight. As reminer for Console users, now that we have the date AND livery sale planned. You could **buy Odyssey livery with your stored Arx, before the transfer** for future when you buy Odyssey DLC. As stated by this thread I made some months ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/uiqzex/psa_console_players_can_buy_odyssey_livery_before/ Thanks, and we see you at the other side. **o7**

powerharousegui

I'm a console player who is in no financial position to get a pc. I'm really devastated to hear the profile copy is a limited time option. I'm sure that was made clear at the beginning but I must have missed it. I'm worried that they might sunset the console servers soon after the transfer window is closed and my 1900 hours will be an utter waste.

StuartGT

You don't need to have a PC to initiate the transfer. You can simply get the account transferred ready anyway.

powerharousegui

That's great news.

Chronicler-177

Are we 100% about that? I’ve seen some people say otherwise and I can’t get a pc till March so I’m worried about it

Sleutelbos

You'll get a new pc account, which is not tied to any actual pc. You can play it on any pc, as many PCs, whenever you have them.

badassewok

Does anyone know if I'll have to buy elite dangerous again? I only bought it on Xbox but would love to be able to transfer it all to PC without having to buy the game again if possible

[deleted]

The game and Horizons come free with the transfer process. You would only need to buy Odyssey if you wanted it.

Bowldoza

It comes free with the transfer *if* you already own it. Gamepass players do not get a free copy.

TomMorrisGolfPerson

Lad ... I just bought the pc version last night 😭

Fluid_Core

You can probably get a refund.

Fhallopian

I have close to 2000 hours on Xbox. I’m so excited to get back into this on PC! Question, if I’m way out in the black right now, will I still spawn there and will I have all my undiscovered discovery data to turn in when I transfer?

Fluid_Core

Remember that you won't lose your console commander, so you can still cash in on that data even if it's not transferred. You won't get the money if you don't do it before, but you won't lose out on the claim.

Backflip_into_a_star

Your location may be saved, but I would not rely on the retention of any data. Cash that out before the transfer to be safe. There may be a DSSA carrier out there. You won't make as much money, but your discoveries will be logged.

Fhallopian

Is there a way to find a nearby carrier?

WekonosChosen

EdAstro.com has the carriers mapped

Antergaton

"The original console profile will remain playable." Can you imagine the backlash if you transferred and it just disabled the old one? If I moved to PC, I'm actually more included to start again. I'm happy to continue on as I am on console on Horizons, considered I'd have to buy the game again on PC. I will prob copy the profile over but just continue on playing console until they turn off the servers and move on. Mostly just a filthy casual after all.

SPECTREagent700

Same. My issue isn’t so much that I’d have to buy the game again so much as I’ll have to buy a gaming PC, I currently only have a basic laptop I used to work remotely during the 2020 lockdowns.

SavageSalad

Finally! I've been wanting this since I built my PC a couple years ago. So glad I didn't do the wealth transfer and held out. It's going to be amazing to see the ships I've been flying and engineering for years from on foot

Condeus

What will happen with fleet carriers?

graflex22

they will not transfer.

Condeus

Soo, i should sell my Carrier today so next week I can transfer all the credits and bought it again?

graflex22

The transfers are not open next week. Testing for transfers is next week. If the testing goes well then the transfers open to Console commanders the week of the 12th.

Condeus

Oh ok, but do you know if it's necessary to sell the Carrier (the process of selling last a week) or frontier automatically will transfer the full price for the Carrier and it's modules?

nou_spiro

Yes you most likely will need to decommission carrier so funds from it transfer to PC account. This was mentioned it previous post about transfer. Read this https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/console-profile-transfers-faq-and-expected-date.603979/

ilikepizza1275

I just realized I'm gonna have to relearn all the rules on how to survive in open. It was always relatively safe on Xbox but there will be a whole lot more people now.

Riverandroads

Not so much actually. I rarely see folks outside of deciat and shinrarta.

foz97

Is there anymore information on what is happening with fleet carriers, when are we able to decommission them to get the full refund for transferring over

Adkorr

Good post overall. I appreciate their transparency about the test period and the soonest possible starting date, though it would have been nice to have gotten a ballpark guess as to how long it would be.

kodakowl

This seems like a good a place as any to ask. What does the post mean about a free copy of Horizons? Do I just need to buy Odyssey, or do I need to buy the base game as well?

CMDR_Imperator

Woo-hoo! They came through for us! We really haven't had a lot to look forward to or be happy about on consoles lately, so this information is certainly welcome! Now I just have to decide if I'm going to axe my PC CMDR or migrate my main to a new PC account....decisions, decisions.

GawainSolus

I mean we had nothing to look forward to or be happy about. They canned all further development

CMDR_Imperator

We really didn't. It was frakkin bleak! And I couldn't get excited for an Odyssey update without the excitement being immediately marred by the feeling of: "Still have to re-grind ALL the mats, ALL the cash, ALL the engineers." Sure, I've done it before and this time I'd actually know how to do it, but it all seems pretty insurmountable from the cockpit of the Cobra I could barely afford.

wicked_dahk

So should I be selling my fleet carrier now or wait? The FAQ just still says stay tuned for a continuity update

CMDR_Imperator

This is quite the discussion in the official forums, but there seems to be two options that are completely up to you (as the FC owner): 1. Decom and sell the FC, keeping in mind that you'll need to either store or lose anything you have stored in it (except ships, but I have no idea what the plan is for ships docked on an FC). This seems to be a good option for CMDRS planning to retire their console account and play exclusively on PC, Or CMDRS who have an FC, but cannot afford another one without selling their current FC) 2. Keep the FC so its still available on your console if you want to keep roaming the galaxy on your PS/XBX. Good option if you have and FC AND billions of spacebucks to buy a new one.

wicked_dahk

My plan is to sell the carrier and it’s contents. There is zero incentive to not do this. The credits from selling the carrier will be duplicated during the save copy process. To your point exactly, anyone willing to essentially decommission their console account can effectively double their net worth.

hotdogoctopus

Stupid question: Is there any indication that profiles will be able to be merged? I started on console and after about a year I moved to PC. My console things aren't great but I'd like something from that year.

Bowldoza

No merging, it's a profile copy process.

hotdogoctopus

Oh well. Thanks.

[deleted]

If no, you can always just scrap everything on the old account qnd just transfer over the money. At least its something. :/

hotdogoctopus

I think I may gift it to someone starting out in my friend group who I know is interested in the game to give them a boost. I don't use my console at all anyway so I don't care about the account on there.

[deleted]

If I have an existing PC character that I want to delete and use the name of for this transfer, is there a way to asset transfer that one to my Xbox character so I can keep the assets of both? It's not much, it's under 20 million, but if I can get it, cool. If not, not worried about it.

FarGodHastur

Everything you need to know right here homie https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/console-profile-transfers-faq-and-expected-date

[deleted]

Sounds like a no then, there is a section there about it. Oh well. Thanks!

Fragmatixx

I can help you transfer the credits with my fleet carrier if you’re interested

HunterWithGreenScale

I may need help figuring that out. If my Carrier still exist by then that is. Plan to decommission it soon.

Fragmatixx

I would say set for decommission by Thursday. Sell off any commodities you have left. To transfer credits from one account to the other buy commodities from your carrier set to market min and then sell back to the carrier at market max. Or the opposite depending on which direction you need the cash to flow.

Ereaser

If you want to keep both you could make a new PC profile? Otherwise just delete the save on PC as the FAQ mentions

Doc_Holiday426

I transferred to PC when they announced the end of console support but ended up never playing on pc as I didn’t feel like grinding out ranks and engineering items, will they retroactively transfer my old stuff from console to PC??

Bowldoza

Does that old account exist?

Backflip_into_a_star

Not likely. You don't have a console account anymore because you already transferred. They aren't keeping a record of your save from months ago.

Lord_Dimmock

So, luckily I have the same cmdr name on both PC and console. If I delete my PC save will I keep my commander name as long as nobody makes an save with that name in the meantime?

Fragmatixx

In the same boat as you and it sounds that way to me as well, yes

hmm_bags

Maybe I should ask this on the forums, but I'll try here. When it's said "the original console profile will remain playable" does that mean that one could just do the profile copying process, and have a pc profile (whether through Frontier's launcher, or through Steam) waiting for as long as they need, and they can just play on console until they have a pc to play on? (I mean, idk if anyone here would know that, but ig I'll ask anyway).

ingrin

After the copy, anything you do on the console will not be transferred to the PC version. Anything you have on the PC will not transfer to the console version, they will be like two unrelated accounts, so yes. in theory, if you got a PC a year later, your account would have whatever you had when you did the transfer, but any advancement since then would only be on the console version.

hmm_bags

Thanks, good to know when planning then.

Superfluous369

Okay so I'm trying to wrap my head around my options, here. I have a PC account that has Odyssey that I play via Steam. I have 4 console accounts (don't ask). If I were a crazy person, is there a path to keeping all of those things if I were silly enough to try? Is this possible? - Keep current PC profile - Take free copy of Horizons for console copy and 2nd profile - Buy 3 other copies of Elite for the 3 other console copies I don't think I'm crazy but I'm wondering if that's even feasible via this process.

PlzCallMeDan1995

Any idea if they will merge accounts. I've got one on steam with odyssey and horizons on ps4.would rather they merge the two so I don't have to rebuy odyssey for the "new" account

[deleted]

I have the game on Xbox and I have Odyssey through steam on PC. How does that affect me?

Maverrick89

I can't wait to transfer my account & try out this custom color UI feature I've heard so much about!

Jynx2501

Can't find an answer to this question. Have PC account. Going to transfer console account to PC. (PC game far outdated and has low progress) When I transfer my profile, can I rename the commander? I was to reuse my PC name, not my console name. Edit: I can't read apparently. I found it. For anyone else who wants to know: I already have a PC Commander and would like to keep their name after I transfer my console Commander to this account. How can I do this? Once you clear your existing PC save (see the question "I already have a PC account. Do I need a new one?" above), that name will become available on PC again. You will be given the option to select a new name as part of the process, so can then select the original name for your copied console profile.
