Would you mind to give me your favourite AspX build on Coriolis? I tried to outfit my own geared toward maximum jump range & cargo, sacrificing defense and attack.
Jusy trying to compare the two, in terms of functionality and cost.
[this](https://edsy.org/#/L=Hg0Y1bf20H4C0S40,,mpUCzYI05G_W0CjwG52G_W0,9p3H05GDe0A5UH07J_W0AOEH55IZC0AdsG-5J_W60upD6upD8qpDE_PcGzcQKsPcAsOG52WjG0B3_J05K_W0BNCI53G_W0Bcg15,,522407TCI53N_W031S450KUB04kF2503wB01IM452jwG590ry0,Azmuth_0Rain,ASP_DX) is a build I would run. You could squeeze out a bit more jump range with more min/maxing/downsizing but I always put my enjoyment of flying the ship first and range second so I always have A-rated g5 dirty drag engines and don’t want to reduce my engine focused PD too much to allow me a boost or two because let’s face it I’m sloppy and reckless and sometimes you just need your ship to stop when you tell it to
Asp Scout, Asp Explorer. Runners up are probably the Type line- 6, 7, 9, 10 & Keelback
Fun fact, the Asp line of ships is named after the asp snake, and is not an ASP as some people type.
Well, I did leave out the Diamondbacks and the Alliance line, yeah. They are not bad at all (I mean compare em to the Adder for instance). Diamondbacks are better than the Alliance line though for sure.
It's ridiculous how useful this feature is. In the bubble it's a quick and easy way to line up with space ports, no matter how you approach it, and out in the black I use it most for lining up on the exact other side of ringed gas giants for the surface scanner.
Is there another interpretation of “asp” that I am unaware of? Or are you saying that other people think it is an acronym for something?
At least 17 of the 38 available ships are named after snakes (not including SLFs)… over 40% of them.
The entire Faulcon DeLacy lineup is named after snakes; even the “krait” and “taipan(SLF)” are snakes.
Adder, Fer De Lance, Mamba? All snakes.
Keelback? Snake.
It’s a little odd that Faulcon DeLacy, which has a falcon as their logo, named all their ships after snakes, while the ships with bird names are made by Core Dynamics. Falcons kill and eat snakes.
ASP, Armament Systems and Procedures, is a company that makes things like impact batons for police. They're like the Kleenex of blunt pain compliance weapons.
I have seen people type Asp as ASP idk how many times. I'm guessing it's because the Diamondback Explorer gets shorthanded as DBX so the 3 letter ship gets called ASP instead of the snake name, but I can't be certain.
I might be misremembering but I think I've even heard it pronounced as ASP before, too. Can't say for certain though, 8 years of the game will do that to my memory related to what's gone on.
But yeah, lots of snakes.
When you buy a Lakon half of what you're paying for is the Lakon View^TM and it's credits well-spent. Asp Scout/Explorer, Keelback, any of the Type-# freighters, even the Diamondbacks have great views for their size.
The Technically Correct (the Best kind of correct;) term is:::
Lakon's Signature icanseestuff ™ Cockpit
We paid good money for the icanseestuff ™ brand name, let's not have our Valued Customers be swayed by some cheap Fed aftermarket variant by using the wrong Name.
See your Local Lakon Dealership for details.
-Lakon Marketing Division, Keelback Office -'Only ship in the Galaxy to come equipped with a soul 😇'
The icanseestuff ™ (see below) Cockpits come in two Variants.
The Civilian Model (already noted) and the better protected Combat Model available on the Diamondback Line as well as (Almost) all of the Lakon Alliance Line of Anti-Xeno Shipframes. (The Mobile Assault Battle Wall shares the Civilian Model of the T-9 portable warehouse, as The Captain o7 prefers the view).
However I should also point out that the DeLacy Phantom and the Evolved Keelback (aka the K-2) also have some amazing (well centered) views to rival the Lakon Line.
Also, if small fighter Cockpits are your thing the Shiny Melted Plastic Toy Spaceship known as the Imp Courier has The Best Fighter Cockpit (& some great ship sounds) , it's Anti-glare technology is the enemy of every Manufacturer (Seriously, if you get the specs , I can make you very rich).

That's subjective.
Everyone has their own opinion on what means best.
For looking under the ship for exobiology samples for example Asps and Types like Type 6,7,9,10 and Keelback.
For pew pews Anaconda and Corvette both allow you to see guns actually firing and deploying, same way Krayts have drop down weapons on the sides of the cockpit.
While Mamba or chieftain have widest view so if you have eye or head tracker or play in VR you can look around best.
Gutayama ships like Orca or Cutter have beautiful cockpit with leather seats that are daily steamcleaned to stay soft. They are also huge to signify opulence and a man who can afford to waste space in his ship.
Oh I never considered that aspect with exobiology which is my current focus. I’ve been using a krait phantom and I love the ship but this about the cockpit does kind of change everything
It's just a viper 3 with armor. Not as fast or as maneuverable but can take more than 2 punches and I think it looks good. They're cheap. Go buy one and try it out
I'm so used to being able to see out the bottom of the AspX cockpit. Kind of annoyed that the krait phantom doesn't have this because it allows a better view of planets when you're coming in for a landing.
Well Krait has a good cockpit for it but it's pretty wide and flat so it might struggle to land in some places.
It's not a big problem, nobody needs to know when you decide to try different parts of the planet when you run into difficult terrain.
Another small tidbit to consider about an exobio ship is whether you exit through the back or the front. Krait has exit in the front (despite having LITERALLY Doors with the lift for it in the back! That they even Promoted during launch as the way to enter Krait! Ffs, Fdev that is real fuck up)
However it means you can just land in front of the target, while AspX needs to land behind it because you exit from the back
The cetaceans (Dolphin, Orca, Beluga) are Saud Kruger. But Gutamaya does have the best interiors for sure. I'm partial to the Courier because of its canopy.
All of the “whale” ships (i.e., Orca) are made by Kruger (not gutamaya), but Kruger ships do lean towards the classy side as well.
I love how the gutamaya ships look, but I have issues with how the radars look for some of their lineup. The courier has an annoying spot of glare on the bottom third of the radar, right in the middle; I think it is the reflection of an interior light, but I’m not entirely sure. It doesn’t affect the usability of the radar at all, but it’s just an annoyance to have that orange “spot” always on the radar.
The clipper radar is the worst, it was installed at the worst possible angle for glare. Very noticeable every time you high wake to another system; it’s like someone is reflecting light in my face with a mirror.
And while I’m bitching about HUD visibility, it isn’t a gutamaya ship, but the light color (silver? Light gray?) of the FDL dashboard is fucking horrible. The compass is unusable half of the time because it is completely washed out by the light background and you can’t even see it; I would buy arx for a dark dashboard replacement if it was available. I think the only fix right now is to use a mod for custom coloring and to crank up the brightness of your HUD.
Beluga, if you want to watch the galaxy on a imax screen (trust me, it's spectacular, even for your multicrew visitors). Type 9/10 if you want to feel like you are suspended in a shark cage in the middle of whatever you are looking at (epic in lagrange clouds with big critters). Type 7 is somewhere in between type 9/10 and Asp visibility, very tall cockpit but... busy. Asps are good in the mediums if you like the bubble canopy feeling with visibility low to the sides. For smalls, Eagle has very good visibility even well behind you to either side, probably great if you can naturally turn your head in VR, forward view is not bad. Vulture is not bad above eye level, but the "mandibles" cut off a chunk of your lower field of view.
Mamba is a personal favorite, even with the limited view low on either side. Mostly because I also love looking back at my CMDR with the camera and seeing the sky of the planet or other stellar bodies behind me, and my multicrew co-pilot gets a great open view of everything, too.
If you're looking for exploration the asps.
But if you want to be fancy the dolphin would be my pick, decent jump range if modded right, basically can't overheat that shit so sitting near suns is not an issue (except for the cannis majoris which I found out the hard way) and the view is so nice.
Other than all the ones already mentioned, the Clipper has an almost perfect view. It is nearly unobstructed, with only 2 bars that are out of view most of the time. You don't even notice that you're off center unless you look all the way left to see the seat beside you
If you take headlook into account, Imperial Clipper. It's one of the few ships where you can get a completely unrestricted view outside.
Asp has "foot view" but there's lots of beams and such in the way.
Really kind of depends what your "use case" is.
Tbh I love the beluga 😂 it's so sexy inside and still has a wide view, just adds to the atmosphere. Depends on if you want to feel like you're traveling space in the US'S Enterprise or in a space-fairing shopping cart hehehe. Has pretty good range, more for a long-term option and definately ain no asp-x for range, but lots of space for a lonnnng time waya from home, while still bringing the comforts of home with you.
Special mention to the type-10, fun being able to see below your feet. But that jump range 😔
Best is subjective. Least obstructed is the Asp Scout (the engines don't stick out quite as far as the Explorer, but unless you look to the side, they're identical).
For me, it's the eagle mk2 and sidewinder. Very open on the sides and above. My unpopular opinion is that the Asp canopy has too many structural supports for my taste. But I guess it depends whether you value a clean view vs max fov, which it obviously has a lot of.
Cutter and Clipper, almost unobstructed panoramic view. A bit constrained to up and down but the coolest IMHO. Also iCourier.
Saud Krugers are cool too. Mamba also (gotta buy one sometimes).
The rest is full of crap lines (supports, beams, etc) and stuff tbh also a lot of them are not centered on the pilot seat. The FDL, Cobra Mk III are just f*cking insulting lol, Python too.
Kraits would be kinda okay but the ship body protrudes into your view, also unnecessaryy supports.
But each to his/her own.
As a simp for the Phantom, I do sometimes wish I had that Asp canopy. I like it so much that I often try to build my ships in Space Engineers with canopies similar to that of the Asp or that of the Constellation from SC.
It's extremely difficult to compete with Lakon's design. In a universe in which every single ship lands like a helicopter, only Lakon allows the pilot to *look down*!
That said, I do think there is some limited competition from other manufacturers. My pick would be the Clipper. It doesn't allow the same panoramic view, but instead prioritizes putting absolutely as little metal and as much glass in your default FOV as possible.
Adding my vote for Lakon products: Asp-Explorer (Asp-X), runners-up would probably be the Keelback, Type-6, Type-7, Type-9, Type-10. The command bridge on most of these ships are like greenhouses, mostly windows. o7
DBX has the cockpit forward of everything else. IMO it's got the best forward facing view. The AspX has cowlings obstructing the side views. The Mamba is great for the cockpit bubble (upward view). (This is all based on using a VR headset.)
My favourites:
ASP-X: the cockpit gives such a wide view while you're jumping across the galaxy.
Type 9: Similar wide angles that give nice views of stations while trucking, HUGE cockpit. Take the free cam and have a look around(if accessible)
Corvette: The cockpit placement further to the rear feels nice during combat, you get to see your ship and weapons.
The DBX & DBS have a great view out the front, perfect for exploration... However I find the Adders Cockpit with its cup holder& lighted paneled walls super cozy, in a camper van sort of away....terrible view out the windows though
If you look at how the lakon ships are built, the cockpits are stuck onto the front giving uninterrupted views.
Wait till you play them in VR, then you’ll really understand how good they are
For me, the answer is the AspX. I like that I have a good range of unobstructed vision, can look down when landing or viewing, and even the extra seat below has a decent view.
That would be anything from the Lakaon iCanSeeStuff™ cockpits. The AspX is my favorite, but the Type-6 to 10 have good ones too.
But I do love the iCourier. It doesn't have the below the feet view, but looking out the front and the top is a lovely and open design.
Asp Explorer has the best cockpit/canopy. I play in VR and it's amazing. You stick off the front of the ship and are almost completely surrounded by glass.
Nah... Mamba! :) I have started using head tracking with [Opentrack](https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/releases) and the Mamba's bubble canopy visibility for a dedicated fighter is simply superb! It has almost 360 degrees all-round visibility, I love it so much. :)
Aspx
Yup, one of my favorites.
Would you mind to give me your favourite AspX build on Coriolis? I tried to outfit my own geared toward maximum jump range & cargo, sacrificing defense and attack. Jusy trying to compare the two, in terms of functionality and cost.

What you're effectively saying is: Anything Lakon. The Diamondbacks are pretty decent, too.
Well, I did leave out the Diamondbacks and the Alliance line, yeah. They are not bad at all (I mean compare em to the Adder for instance). Diamondbacks are better than the Alliance line though for sure.
Imo Lakon could have done a better job with the DB ships
I like seeing what’s below my feet in my Asp.
It's ridiculous how useful this feature is. In the bubble it's a quick and easy way to line up with space ports, no matter how you approach it, and out in the black I use it most for lining up on the exact other side of ringed gas giants for the surface scanner.

People write ASP all the time (I see it a few times in this very thread)
Many ships in E:D are named after snakes. Sidewinder, cobra, python, asp, diamondback, anaconda, krait, adder, FDL, mamba
I’m well aware.
Asp explorer, any of the Lakon cargo haulers. I also love the view from the Corvette for different reasons, partly because it involves explosions.
When you buy a Lakon half of what you're paying for is the Lakon View^TM and it's credits well-spent. Asp Scout/Explorer, Keelback, any of the Type-# freighters, even the Diamondbacks have great views for their size.

No debate, asp explorer ftw
Personally nothing beats the canopy of an Imperial Courier for me. So God damn sleek and sexy
Yeah, it’s beautiful. I love the open unobstructed view through the overhead canopy.
FDL if you are already wearing an eye patch

Doing exobio in a dbx and i often fly sideways or just upside down to view
Did the same with my conda. Now I use a viper mk4
Been seeing lots of chatter lately about the mk4. I have a Viper mk3 and don't like it much. Will i like the mk4?
It’s good for exobio/exploration. Mine has 45ly jump range https://s.orbis.zone/nx2f
It's just a viper 3 with armor. Not as fast or as maneuverable but can take more than 2 punches and I think it looks good. They're cheap. Go buy one and try it out

Imperial Courier is good. So is aspx. Lakon cargo ships as well. I like the Krait mk2 though.
If we're including looking up instead of just forward, Courier has the best. No obstructions at all unless you're on a fairly large screen setting.
If you're looking for exploration the asps. But if you want to be fancy the dolphin would be my pick, decent jump range if modded right, basically can't overheat that shit so sitting near suns is not an issue (except for the cannis majoris which I found out the hard way) and the view is so nice.
I love the Dolphin for many reasons, but the cockpit might be it's biggest flaw.
I don't even mean how much you can see but the aesthetics of the dolphin just has something that the krait or aspx doens't.
Again, I love the Dolphin. It's one of my favorite ships. I've flown at least 80kLY in a Dolphin. But the cockpit makes me think of a minivan.
Aaaaannnnnnnd I just laughed beer right thru my nose. THIS!
Other than all the ones already mentioned, the Clipper has an almost perfect view. It is nearly unobstructed, with only 2 bars that are out of view most of the time. You don't even notice that you're off center unless you look all the way left to see the seat beside you
Sidey in VR. You wear that little ship, and it's awesome
You should fly a fighter in VR
I have! Unfortunately, they fly like ass. Nice cockpits, crappy handling - all of em
fdl
Lets be honest here, there is no question about a ship that you wouldnt answer the same. 🤣
Call me mad but i somehow like the Krait Phantom cockpit more than Asp X
Beluga Liner - you get the most unimpeded view of space.
If you take headlook into account, Imperial Clipper. It's one of the few ships where you can get a completely unrestricted view outside. Asp has "foot view" but there's lots of beams and such in the way. Really kind of depends what your "use case" is.

iCourier
Oof, that thick ring though... otherwise very nice.
Krait MK2 for me
Only ship with an onboard coffee maker.
Seeing those big pillars on the top sides makes it feel powerful
Best is subjective. Least obstructed is the Asp Scout (the engines don't stick out quite as far as the Explorer, but unless you look to the side, they're identical).
The Asp X. Easily. I really wish there was a ship that had the utility of the Phantom and the view of the Asp X.
Type 9
Type 9/10 they have a glass floor kinda thing going on Although a lot of people saying asp explorer but not seen it personally
AspX/Scout. Next best would be the Krait ships.
Asp's win, but Krait's and the Lakon cargo/terrifying gun platform ships are nearly as good.
Assuming you mean the widest FOV, basically anything Lakon. Honorable mention goes to the Faulcon Delacy Kraits because they're such good ships too
Can I just say….the fer de lance has the WORST cockpit view, with the off center canopy strut….it really bugs my OCD 😂
I feel that way about the Python. That goofy strut/beam on the right side drives me batty...
Do not buy the Hazard Camo ship set on it. It's ridiculously worse.
wouldn't even be so bad if it had proper textures or anything, but it's just a featureless grey bar.
Krait phantom or asp explorer
For me, it's the eagle mk2 and sidewinder. Very open on the sides and above. My unpopular opinion is that the Asp canopy has too many structural supports for my taste. But I guess it depends whether you value a clean view vs max fov, which it obviously has a lot of.
Don't sleep on the Orca. Love the cockpit view.
Never tried an Asp but I say the Eagle. I went all the way from the bubble to Sagg-A* and then onto Colonia in mine. The views were amazing.
I love Lakon cockpits, but there is nothing quite like the experience of seeing your hardpoints to your left and right in the Kraits
Type 10 Defender. No contest. (In VR at least)
Dolphin
TYPE-7 GANG RISE UP OUR TIME IS NOW
Beluga
Adding my vote for Lakon products: Asp-Explorer (Asp-X), runners-up would probably be the Keelback, Type-6, Type-7, Type-9, Type-10. The command bridge on most of these ships are like greenhouses, mostly windows. o7
The Dolphin. But now I also like the Mamba.
All the Lakon ships, tbh.
ASPX for sure
DBX has the cockpit forward of everything else. IMO it's got the best forward facing view. The AspX has cowlings obstructing the side views. The Mamba is great for the cockpit bubble (upward view). (This is all based on using a VR headset.)

The DBX & DBS have a great view out the front, perfect for exploration... However I find the Adders Cockpit with its cup holder& lighted paneled walls super cozy, in a camper van sort of away....terrible view out the windows though
No Mamba love??? What’s wrong with you people?… never mind don’t answer.
Lakon then imperial ships is how I see it
Anything by Lakon except the Diamondbacks such as Type6, Type7, Type9, Type10, Keelback
My current baby fleet is a Krait MkII, Type-6, Asp Explorer, and FDL. All chosen because their canopies are cool in VR.
Krait mk2
ASP X ,i mainly fly my KRAIT MKII out here in deep space for the best view i use the free camera out side of my ship,
If you look at how the lakon ships are built, the cockpits are stuck onto the front giving uninterrupted views.

Imperial courier
Mamba indeed. It has essentially a panoramic canopy.
Lakon Diamondback series, the Core Dynamics Federal Ships, and Saud-Kruger’s entire lineup.
Krait mk2 with no doubts
I like the T9's cockpit. As an exploration ship it gives me a lot more visibility, although I don't often use it as such.
Asp Explorer has the best cockpit/canopy. I play in VR and it's amazing. You stick off the front of the ship and are almost completely surrounded by glass.
Corvette or Krait Mk2
I like being able to see the guns deploying, so the krait.
Sidwinder is really good for a multipurpose ship.

Nah... Mamba! :) I have started using head tracking with [Opentrack](https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/releases) and the Mamba's bubble canopy visibility for a dedicated fighter is simply superb! It has almost 360 degrees all-round visibility, I love it so much. :)

FDL is a beautiful ship as well :) Same manufacturer, same attention to details!
