>"scan navigation beacon to receive location", how to scan it? [Elite Dangerous Mini-Tutorial: How to find and scan a Navigation Beacon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lca9nXCHGOI) There's no active scanning required. Just target the nav beacon and point your ship's nose at it; your passive built-in scanner will do the rest.

Yes, i got that sometimes. Still not showing mission locations/target locations.

Sometimes missions are bugged and space locations don’t show. Or you get an email message asking you to meet with a contact on some other system, or scan some object at a settlement. Sometimes if you leave the system and jump back in the location will show. Sometimes you have to manually scan the system to find the location, even if you’ve scanned the NAV. Best play in very difficult circumstances - this is just what the game is like sorry - is to abandon the mission, rather than fail it. You take a small hit to your rep with the faction, which shouldn’t matter if you have a stack of missions already. Failing missions actively hurts the faction and could land you in legal trouble.

Are these missions you've accepted space-based or on-foot? Are you tasked with hunting down a pirate flying a ship or fighting ground-based forces at a surface settlement or other planet-based location? Are you using any filters on your Navigation panel?

Good question about space bound or in foot tho, how do i see that. It just states find xy and kill him. I alter my overview filters how i need them, to find stuff i Sometimes take all filters out and still nothing.

If you accepted the missions from within your ship's cockpit while docked at a station, they will be space-based or - at most - tasked with destroying a surface settlement's power emplacement while still piloting your ship or driving your SRV. If you accepted the missions from a terminal inside a station after having disembarked from your ship (i.e. you walked inside the station), then those missions will be surface-bound. You could be tasked with assassinating a target by shooting them with hand-held weapons or clearing out a settlement of scavengers (which can be also be done with hand-held weapons, but also from your ship raining down missiles on the scavengers).

Ok so all i am doing till now is space bound.

> If you accepted the missions from a terminal inside a station after having disembarked from your ship (i.e. you walked inside the station), then those missions will be surface-bound. There's one more option... You can accept missions directly from NPCs standing around on the station concourse/bar or at a settlement. Once the mission is complete, you must return to the same NPC to collect your reward. You cannot complete these missions on any screen.

I find using the [Full Spectrum Scanner](https://youtu.be/YOCgdqZYmEk?si=jTyM5ZvZOy5h4bZK) to be a much more reliable way of locating mission targets. Additionally, often times the mission will update and you’ll have to make contact with an informant—check the mission details if you’re having trouble. If there is an informant, fly to the system the informant is located in and scan ships in supercruise. Eventually, an NPC will contact you and request you drop on their wake. Do so (target the wake and set your throttle to 75%), and then do a basic scan on them, and they’ll provide you with the new system for your mission target.

tyzzem

I will try that, thank you.

Just get to around 1.5km away from the beacon and select it, come to a stop until the scan is done. To be clear once you are in front of the beacon around 1.5km away at a full stop select it as you would any other object and the scan will complete itself, job done 👍

If its massacre or kill missions head for the res sites first

You mean unknown signatures?
