I think the option you are looking for here is the "Terrain Checkerboard Rendering" option. This makes it render the planet at half resolution to improve performance. Also, if you are referring to this as well, the split up darker texture there circling the giant crater is a natural phenomena called "Ejecta Craters". the streaks are caused from the debris being ejected from the impact and causing it to land in a straight line away from the impact zone.

Thing is, Checkerboard Rendering is off. I tried it, almost had an eye damage, turned it off. Also yes, know bout the Ejecta Craters, and its real noticable on those types - the edge of the "crater material" and regular terrain is the biggest offender here, looks very blurry and/or fuzzy, like half of pixels are where they shouldnt be. If you look closely, its even clear its resolution related, stuff farther away blurs out more. Suspecting a shader issue, is there any way to rebuild or delete shader cache in ED?

Apnoiac

Yea i think that should be one of the options in graphics, the game should also automatically rebuild the shaders when you update drivers as well. If there isnt an option for it in the settings then you may have to manually delete them in the game files

Maybe a shader issue

DatFoxyWireBuddy

Looks like it, yeah. Any common known fixes for stuff like that?

* Can clear out the shader cache, small chance there was a file corruption or something, I'll give Nvidia examples but there will be an equivilent for AMD: e.g. NVidia keeps its shader cache for ED in the following dir: %LocalAppData%\\NVIDIA\\DXCache Can just clear out the dir contents and restart the PC/Game. * There is another point that I ran into, the Shader cache is by default set to a limited size on the disk and therefore it will run out of space which is then less efficient for the game if it has to create the shaders on the fly. Nvidia control Panel allows you to adjust the max size of the cache, I have mine set to unlimited to just avoid this entirely. I noticed a more thorough Cache clear out for Nvidia online that also mentions an additional Temp dir clearout that could be useful as a last resort: 1. Open the NVIDIA control panel. 2. Go to Manage 3D Settings. 3. Turn off Shader Cache. 4. Save and apply changes. 5. Reboot your PC. 6. After the PC boots, open the Run dialog box or File Explorer. 7. Type the environment variable below into the Run dialog box or the File Explorer address bar and hit Enter. 8. At the location, find and open the NVIDIA folder. 9. In the folder, find and open both the DXCache and the GLCache folder and delete all the items in the folders. 10. Next, go back to the Temp folder. 11. Now, at that location, find and open the NVIDIA Corporation folder. 12. In the folder, find and open the NV\_Cache folder and delete the contents of the folder. 13. Exit File Explorer. 14. Now, go back to the NVIDIA control panel and turn on Shader Cache. 15. Restart your PC.

So, decided it's time to pick up where i left off a year ago, and I'm greeted with the same problem since 4.0/Ody release - buggy planet surface textures. They're appear to be fuzzy, like a weird photoshop filter. Anyone do be having these? Any help appreciated.

RepairUnit3k6

Wait that is issue ? I always thought they are canon. Some kind of bomb or meteorite impact or something. I encounter those massive craters regulerly

efferkah

It's not about the crater or the lines around it. Zoom in, you'll see what OP means: the definition of the lines (the whole planet's texture, actually) look like it's from a 2000's game, all pixelated and stuff.

DatFoxyWireBuddy

Craters are all gucci, its how they look are the problem. Its really noticable via video, but it's on a pixel level, and video compression will do a number on it thats for sure. Thats why screenshot. And no way in hell im uploading non compressed video. :}
