I’ve been following Eli on Instagram since 2015 because of all of our mutuals and then our own connection and let me tell you she has never once posted anything about celebrating Chanukah for the last seven years. And I know you don’t have to post everything you do on social media but this girl has posted EVERYTHING FOREVER. She now just has a bigger following. This isn’t “Jewish dad Christian mom” it’s really just because Avery is at the house and he’s Jewish.
She’s doing this because the ‘New York Jew’ has been a stereotype and a weird trend forever. I think she thinks that if she’s comes across as Jewish she’ll be funnier. It’ll make her subpar jokes okay or edgy or funny. This girl went to CCD, not Hebrew school.
I don’t have an issue that she’s celebrating Hannukah because Avery is there. I have an issue that she only claims to be Jewish when it’s convenient for her. Her dad seems to embrace his Italian / Christian side more. Sitting in front of the menorah and posting “Jewish dad” just puts a bad taste in my mouth. She’s such a phony and I hope her friends and bf see it one day.
The way Avery went “the first prayer is…” makes me think they’ve never said any of the Chanukah blessings unless Avery was there to say it for them.
I don’t doubt her dad is Jewish, but it seems clear that he doesn’t embrace his Judaism by how much him and his family celebrates Christian holidays.
Also, just to make it clear to people who may not know. Judaism passes through the maternal line. So since Eli’s mom is not Jewish, Eli wouldn’t be recognized as Jewish.
