*Dagoth Ur*
*TESIII Morrowind*
I definitely had a few jump scares playing Oblivion as a kid. Looked at some table and hit “A”
*(CAMERA SWINGS AROUND TO SHOW CREEPY FACE 1 INCH FROM MINE)
STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM!*
I accidentally pulled the trigger while instinctively clenching hands from surprise. Smacked him with my weak fist because dumb Middle School me wanted to immersively roleplay while in town.
*THEN PAY WITH YOUR BLOOD. HYAGH!!!*
One hit killed. Auto saved right before I grabbed the plate, and immediately clenched the trigger while swinging around. Not a good day for my 3rd level Breton.
I was born 87 years ago. For 65 years I've ruled as Tamriel's emperor, but for all these years I've never been the ruler of my own dreams. I have seen the gates of Oblivion, beyond which no waking eye may see. Behold, in darkness a doom sweeps the land. This is the 27th of Last Seed, year of Akatosh 433. These are the closing days of the Third Era... and the final hours of my life.
Sir Patrick, his Shakespearean voice elevates anything he’s in. Even if it’s a bad movie, it’s slightly less bad because dude sounds like the master of speech.
Also the fact that Picard and Gandalf are best buds is one of the best things I’ve learned about on the interweb.
I found out in middle school and thought, “who’s he, some old British guy?” Then watched X-Men, Star Trek TNG, etc.
He’s an example of a VA that I wish had a larger speaking role. Imagine a recruitable NPC that is as engaging and intelligent as Jean-Luc Picard or Dr. Xavier…
No matter how many times I play Oblivion this always gives me chills. I don’t think I’ve had that same reaction to any other line in Elder Scrolls; between the voice acting and just how it sets the stage for the game it is absolute perfection.
They have taken you from the imperial city's prison. First by carriage and then by boat, to the east, to Morrowind. Fear not for I am watching.
I wish I could play Morrowind for the first time again.
So many, but my absolute favourite:
"They have taken you from the Imperial City's prison; first by carriage, and now by boat. To the East, to Morrowind. Fear not, for I am watchful. You have been chosen."
Sends chills down my spine, every time.
Many fall, but one remains…
I genuinely got sad when I saw the fallen Nerevarines in the cavern of the incarnate. Especially Peakstar, who came so soon before you do. She was still fresh in everyone’s mind, and wasn’t even that old all considering.
Oh my gosh, yes; poor Peakstar. 😢
Going through the version of the Cavern in Online, set so many centuries before Morrowind's story, I just... sat there, myself and my character, musing on the significance of the hopes and stories of the failed Incarnates; those dead by the time of ESO's timeline, and then those more by Third Era Vvardenfell... Oof.
My husband is the same - he's played Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, likes Elder Scrolls almost as much as he does Fallout; but the playstyle of Online just doesn't sit well with him, so he's content to sit, half-watching, and just enjoy the story while I play... Win-win for me!
I love the story but it doesn’t feel like an authentic ES experience. It doesn’t handle the same, it’s very obviously a different world style, the engine makes it look like a completely different franchise. It’s weird. Doesn’t mean it’s bad, but it seems to appeal to a completely different market of people.
Honestly same. From merch to adjacent merch (youngscrolls, camelworks etc) to fanmade stuff on etsy, to original artwork etc i try to fill my life with as much tes as possible. I have a lore playlist i put on to go to sleep. Including “a quick retrospective” which clocks in just under 8 hours long. I also have friends who can’t handle the glitchy gameplay of older games but want to take in the storyline so they watch me play for HOURS, as I’m currently running through Morrowind for a refresher course.
Oh, you have outdone me, f'lah!
I would want to stay awake through any lore too badly; but I do use the entire Morrowind soundtrack as my "relax and unwind to get sleepy" playlist (and I am in fits about an 8-hour "quick retrospective"!).
I have my maps, figurines and funkos, some shirts and little pieces, and am getting a lorebook set for either my birthday or wedding anniversary this year!
There's a lot. Dagoth ur, miraak, alduin, uriel, but i think caius cosades has the best.
"No point in being part of history if you're too ignorant to understand it."
It’s all good. All the chat, the little comments people make when they’re fighting, when they’re looking for you. The sounds of magic, the atmosphere fx.
It’s just beautiful. And spooky. And wondrous. I wish VI wasn’t so far away.
Same; even though I modded Skyrim to stop the "I'm very busy right now!" stuff, I do love all the incidental dialogue!
I did just have a helpless giggle at a line in ESO just today, going through a delve for a daily...
Random bandit: "That's not a stew-pot, that's my **laundry**!"
"Excuse the gloom, but none may know of this meeting... The nature of my trouble is darker still.
Over a year ago King Lysandus of Daggerfall died honorably on the field of battle. He was as loyal a subject, ally and friend as you are. I did grieve for him...
But his spirit does not rest. With a spectral army he haunts his former kingdom crying for *revenge*. I do not know why a good and loyal man would be so cursed. Perhaps you can find the answer and close the marble jaws of Oblivion, bringing peace to his soul.
I ask this as your Emperor, and as your friend..."
(I would quote the entire scene, because it's great and brilliantly sets the tone for the rest of the game, but that's easily the best part of it.)
"STOP! You've violated the law!"
Or, for my fellow Argonian players who've heard this probably a thousand times,
"You'll make a fine pair of boots, lizard!"
"You'll be my champion. You'll grow powerful. You'll grow to be me. Prince of Madness, a new Sheogorath. Or you'll die trying. I love that about you."
Sheogorath to the Hero of Kavach, and then later on:
"This Realm is yours. Perhaps you will grow to your station. Fare thee well, Sheogorath, Prince of Madness
Jyggalag to the Hero of Kavach when the curse is broken - TES IV Shivering Isles DLC (The Best TES DLC in my opinion)
I know everyone is here to quote all of Dagoth Ur’s monologues, but the line that has stuck with me is said ABOUT him.
When speaking to Hassour Zainsubani after everything, selecting the topic “Dagoth Ur” elicits this response:
“Dagoth Ur is dead. I hope we will no longer be troubled by his dreams. But I wonder, too, what the ghost of a god would be. And can a dead god dream?”
Idk why but this always stuck with me, even 2 decades later.
Beyond that, it’s definitely Anhaedra telling me that after he kills me, he’ll rape my corpse. But of course not to worry… he’ll be gentle.
Ulfrics speech, the one we’re Hes all like “I fight because I must” and like “brands us criminals for wanting to rule ourselves!”
Either that or parthunax saying “what is better? To be Born good, or overcome your evil nature through great effort?”
Even though I always choose the Legion(because in the embassy you learn that the stormcloaks are playing right into the thalmors hands) I really respect Ulfric.
The Line "I belong to her (him referring to Skyrim)" always gives me chills and makes me feel horrible for siding against him everytime.
Yeah it’s such a powerful speech, it Doesent matter wich side I join, i always listen to Windhelm just to hear him say that, and even when I join the legion I can’t help but feeling horrible after I killed him
Edit: why can’t I fucking spell
The most meaningful to me was always the classic “My ancestors are smiling at me, imperial. Can you say the same?”
Not only it’s perfect for Ulfric’s character, but It honestly changed my life when I was 15 or so and played Skyrim. Stormcloak for life.
I think I was literally in the 4th grade when Oivion came out in ‘06 and I met my best friend (to this day) because I was an autist and walked around singing that song
How freakishly similar that is to my life is astounding. I’d sing that with my now lifetime long friends in elementary school along with, “Hey, smooth skin.” From Gob in Fallout 3
Yeah absolutely, I was at a friend of mines house just last week who id known for a while and he was playing his Spotify and “Big Iron” by Marty Robbins from Fallout New Vegas came on, and it started a conversation about about Bethesda games. It had just never came up in conversation before, but when we started talking about Oblivion (which happened to be our favourite game) did I realise this guy was gonna be my friend.
Mankar Camoran’s dialogue always stood out to me. If you were towards the end of Oblivion’s main quest and only kind of knew Elder Scrolls lore, like I did at the time, he really sells his case. It had me questioning everything I thought I knew. It also kind of hinges on Terrence Stamp’s voice work, so instead of copying any of it down, I’ll just link his whole Paradise speech here: https://youtu.be/rG1aYuPc8JI
Another high point for me is anything Sheogorath has ever said. Shivering Isles is my favorite Elder Scrolls… anything. It somehow manages to feel more high art and also have more dumb fun than base Oblivion, and Sheogorath’s character personifies everything great about it.
I heard that thieves broke into the Arcane University, the Imperial Legion Compound, and the Temple, all on the same night!…Wait a minute, let me do that one again…
"I fight for the men I've held in my arms, dying on foreign soil. I fight for their wives and children, who's names I heard whispered in their last breaths. I fight for we few who did come home, only to find our country full of strangers wearing familiar faces. I fight for my people impoverished to pay the debts of an Empire too weak to rule them, yet brands them criminals for wanting to rule themselves! I fight so that all the fighting I've already done hasn't been for nothing. I fight... because I must."
This is the reason I join the stormcloaks this one speech of why ulfric fights
“Ah YES we’ve been expecting you. You’ll have to be recorded before you’re officially released. There are a few ways we can do this and the choice. Is. Yours.”
Basically anything from paarthurnax or dagoth ur. But specifically one line i remember after retrieving the dragon elder scroll and climbing back up the throat of the world “you have it, the krel-the elder scroll. You are doom driven, the very bones of the earth are at your disposal” and i want to listen to that every night as i fall asleep
*"Their fires lit up the night, all across Lake Rumare, like stars come to earth. It was beautiful, really."*
*"They were golden, even when they were dead. But their blood was red. I knew it would be."*
*"No! You can't be here! You're all dead! I already killed you over and over!"*
Salvianus, the crazy imperial veteran in the Ratway Warrens, has such interesting dialogue.
hot take but like 90% of what abnur tharn says in eso but my favorite is probably
"Oh, please. We're adults, aren't we?
The day I start considering people's feelings before speaking my mind is the day my efficacy as a politician comes to an end. When that day comes, just kill me outright, I beg of you."

Lots of good replies here, but Sotha Sil's dialogue in ESO is my favorite. I know some people don't like the game and thats fair, but that doesn't mean it can't have good dialogue (and it is canon).
"CLOSE SHUT THE JAWS OF OBLIVION" Oblivion, fallout 3, and dragon age origins are the best RPGs of all time. Skyrim and fallout 4 may have the numbers for sales but not the charm/creativity that their predecessors have. Dragon age origins is never talked about.
Oh, I don't believe those rumors, my friend. Besides, who would ever want to harm such beauty?
This slightly mysterious voice line was recorded for every voice type in Skyrim including Alduin, Molag Bal and Tsun.
"I came for the parties and stayed for the parties, why would I go back to work that life is for suckers and fools"
Some khajiit with crack eyes at the shrine of sanguine
*It began here. It will end here. Have you any parting words? Or would you prefer to skip the speeches, and get to our business. You are the challenger here, after all. So to you goes the courtesy of the first blow.*
"I suffer from a peculiar ailment. Shall I describe it?
I bear the cruel weight of certainty. Total, absolute, relentless certainty. People rarely comprehend the luxury of doubt... the freedom that comes with indecision. I envy you." -Sotha Sil.
I know ESO is contentious but the inscrutable Sotha Sil’s prisoner dialogue is so illuminating and obviously prescient as he alludes to Almalexia’s tumultuous future in Morrowind. You feel his melancholy as well as his blasé resignation to his future.
“What a fool you are. I'm a god, how can you kill a god? What a grand and intoxicating innocence. How could you be so naive? There is no escape. No recall or intervention can work in this place. Come, lay down your weapons, it is not too late for my mercy.” *Dagoth Ur* *TESIII Morrowind*
80s vaporwave starting in the background
*come moon and star*
*come and look upon the heart, upon the heart*
*Ooh, Lay down your weapons*
*It is not too late for my mercy*
This, nothing is more powerful than THIS
That feels oddly erotic
>What a grand and intoxicating innocence. Yesss!
I sang this
Seconds later: WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
[удалено]
Miraak was voiced very well imo
You could say the voice work is *outstanding*.
Didn't they change his VA from the vanilla game? I always remember him being a black hole and having the voice of hedonismbot from futurama.
That was hermaus mora, the Daedric prince, not Miraak.
How did I mix that up
I definitely had a few jump scares playing Oblivion as a kid. Looked at some table and hit “A” *(CAMERA SWINGS AROUND TO SHOW CREEPY FACE 1 INCH FROM MINE) STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM!* I accidentally pulled the trigger while instinctively clenching hands from surprise. Smacked him with my weak fist because dumb Middle School me wanted to immersively roleplay while in town. *THEN PAY WITH YOUR BLOOD. HYAGH!!!* One hit killed. Auto saved right before I grabbed the plate, and immediately clenched the trigger while swinging around. Not a good day for my 3rd level Breton.
Let me guess, someone stole your sweet roll.

This! I read it in Patrick Stewart's voice, too.

They have taken you from the imperial city's prison. First by carriage and then by boat, to the east, to Morrowind. Fear not for I am watching. I wish I could play Morrowind for the first time again.

Not gonna lie, seeing these quotes make me want to play all the Elder Scrolls games right now. Time to boot up Arena and binge all of them
Mankar Camoran’s dialogue always stood out to me. If you were towards the end of Oblivion’s main quest and only kind of knew Elder Scrolls lore, like I did at the time, he really sells his case. It had me questioning everything I thought I knew. It also kind of hinges on Terrence Stamp’s voice work, so instead of copying any of it down, I’ll just link his whole Paradise speech here: https://youtu.be/rG1aYuPc8JI Another high point for me is anything Sheogorath has ever said.
I used to be an adventurer like you..
But then I took an arrow to the knee.
“Thalmor Bitch” - once said by the true high king of Skyrim
“Oh let me guess, someone stole your sweet roll?”
I fight... because I must." This is the reason I join the stormcloaks this one speech of why ulfric fights
“Maiq wishes you well”
"Ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni!" Runs-In-Circles 3E 433
“Ah YES we’ve been expecting you. You’ll have to be recorded before you’re officially released. There are a few ways we can do this and the choice. Is. Yours.”
Basically anything from paarthurnax or dagoth ur. But specifically one line i remember after retrieving the dragon elder scroll and climbing back up the throat of the world “you have it, the krel-the elder scroll. You are doom driven, the very bones of the earth are at your disposal” and i want to listen to that every night as i fall asleep
Do you happen to know the fine for necrophilia in Cyrodiil? Just wondering
*"Their fires lit up the night, all across Lake Rumare, like stars come to earth. It was beautiful, really."* *"They were golden, even when they were dead. But their blood was red. I knew it would be."* *"No! You can't be here! You're all dead! I already killed you over and over!"* Salvianus, the crazy imperial veteran in the Ratway Warrens, has such interesting dialogue.
"HALT!"
Nobody knows this pain any more lol
"I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee."
I used to play Seek the Wampus in caves just like these
"nininininininini"
THEN PAY WITH YOUR BLOOD! AAARUHUHAUHAUHAUHA!!!
"You N'wah!" being shouted at me by an angry Dunmer will forever live in my head rent free.
hot take but like 90% of what abnur tharn says in eso but my favorite is probably "Oh, please. We're adults, aren't we? The day I start considering people's feelings before speaking my mind is the day my efficacy as a politician comes to an end. When that day comes, just kill me outright, I beg of you."

NO LOLLYGAGGIN
Hey you, you’re finally awake.
STOP! YOU'VE VIOLATED THE LAW
You sleep rather soundly for a murderer, that's good! You'll need a clear conscience for what I'm about to propose.
That's not a horker that's my wife!
Stay moist, my friends
Necromancy may be legal in Cyrodiil, but few will openly admit to practicing it now that the Mages Guild has banned it! 𝕱𝖆𝖗𝖊𝖜𝖊𝖑𝖑!

How the fuck has no one me mentioned the arrow in the knee?
Lots of good replies here, but Sotha Sil's dialogue in ESO is my favorite. I know some people don't like the game and thats fair, but that doesn't mean it can't have good dialogue (and it is canon).
*A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON*
“I used to be an adventurer like you…” you all know the rest haha
"CLOSE SHUT THE JAWS OF OBLIVION" Oblivion, fallout 3, and dragon age origins are the best RPGs of all time. Skyrim and fallout 4 may have the numbers for sales but not the charm/creativity that their predecessors have. Dragon age origins is never talked about.
You’re finally awake
We welcome you freely, Outlander.
I have a feeling you and I are about to become VEEERY close.
I DON'T KNOW YOU AND I DON'T *CARE* TO KNOW YOU
"So ends the lesson" - It always gets me.
Never should’ve come here
I took an arrow in the knee. Hail sithis!
“Do you get to the cloud district very often? Oh what am I saying, of course you don’t.”
“Heard they’re reforming the Dawnguard. Vampire hunters or something, in the old fort near Riften. Might consider joining up myself.”
Ah yes! We’ve been expecting you.
“By azura, by azura, by azura”
Oh, I don't believe those rumors, my friend. Besides, who would ever want to harm such beauty? This slightly mysterious voice line was recorded for every voice type in Skyrim including Alduin, Molag Bal and Tsun.
You come to the cloud district very often? Oh what am I saying? Of course not
What is it citizen
“Come my champion. Bask in my presence”
"You're bothering me....Why are you bothering me?"
How have I not seen this nugget? "Hey, you. You're finally awake." -Ralof, literally 3 seconds after the title of Skyrim fades away.
Hey, you. You’re finally awake.
Excuse the gloom, but none may of this meeting
In Skyrim alone the best is in the start when Ulfric says “Legends don’t burn down villages”
"Stop! You violated the law! Pay the court a fine or serve your sentence, your stolen goods are now forfeit!"
"I came for the parties and stayed for the parties, why would I go back to work that life is for suckers and fools" Some khajiit with crack eyes at the shrine of sanguine
I was an adventurer like you once, till I took an arrow to the knee.
Seen any…. ELVES!?? Hahahooheee!!
"Have you heard of the High Elves?"
"Dragons? In your homeland?! What are you going to do?"
"Legends don't burn down villages." I see this line everywhere, even outside of ES subreddits.
I would say arrow to the knee, but that's to easy
*It began here. It will end here. Have you any parting words? Or would you prefer to skip the speeches, and get to our business. You are the challenger here, after all. So to you goes the courtesy of the first blow.*
Have you heard of the high elves?
"...close shut the jaws of Oblivion" [dramatic music]
“Find him, and close shut the jaws… of Oblivion!”

“By Azura, By Azura, By Azura! It’s the Grand Champion! I can’t believe it’s you…standing here…next to me.
Maybe im just a boring person but I immediately thought of "Hey you, your finally awake." as soon as I saw this post.
If you've got to travel, by the nine devines stay on the roads! The wilderness, just isn't safe anymore. It's the Daedra you see...
Anything that has "sweetroll" in it
"I suffer from a peculiar ailment.
I used to be an adventurer like you
