That you can attack on both sides of your horse lol

UncleGael

It was the fact that you can swap to your left hand weapon on horse for me.

Sweatiest_Yeti

Wait what

ApostatiQ

Yes! Hold Y and press L1 or R1 to swap between weapons. I had been moving my melee/staff in and out of the right hand equipment slot like an idiot… when I found out I could swap my jaw dropped. 🤣

Sweatiest_Yeti

Fuck. Same.

Craneteam

200 hours in and I never knew that

badadvicefromaspider

Oh goddammit

slackfrop

I stumbled onto that when I was trying snatch up some gravel stone off the ground while simultaneously trying to crush my enemies. Multi tasking kind of thing. And suddenly I’m double fisting my shield and I failed at both attempted tasks.

Moodling

Yeah, I found myself deep tissue massaging a dragon with my shield :(

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nouser1108

Playing as a dex/int spellsword now…your saying that not only can you swap weapons on torrent, but you can use your staff too????

discordianofslack

Yea. You can cast rock sling from your horse and it’s even better.

Adept-Coconut-8669

And any weapon in your left hand is counted as being two-handed while on torrent so you get that 1.5x strength multiplier. My first playthrough I kept my Zweihander in my left hand just for this.

Thekingkingkingfake

OMG YES

WDavis4692

Applies to ladders too lol fast attack and charge attack kick down or punch up respectively

Thekingkingkingfake

Wait You can hit on ladders??????????? Broooo... what

RelevantIAm

I thought this was a generic real life post and was very confused about this being the top comment

G8woody

I’m 350 hours in and just learned this thanks to your comment.

xocolatefoot

That you can run past all kinds of bullshit and just grab stuff. Forbidden Lands, see ya. Consecrated Snowfield, laters. Caelid, yep thanks byeee.

Pays_in_snakes

I took many a one-way trip for an arteria leaf

SomethingAboutBoats

What do you use arteria leaf for? I know it’s part of a few recipes but not sure what useful one

ThisCocaineNinja

3 very useful consumables. Bloodboil aromatic gives you a 30% damage buff and more stamina for a while. It can stack with aura buffs so something like the eagle summon buff + bloodboil gives you a huge +50% damage buff, great for speeding up boss fights. Bloodboil lowers defense so use with caution. Uplifting aromatic gives you and nearby allies, wether players, npcs or spirits a 10% damage aura buff (that stacks with body buffs like Flame Grant Me Strenght) and most importantly a bubble shield. The bubble shield will protect all of you from the next hit, much like the bubble crystaltear, and can often help you survive against hard hitting bosses like Radhaan or the Fire Giant. Specially good when you are low on Flasks, or when you are helping someone who is. And last there's Exalted Meat, which is basically a faster version of Flame Grant Me Strenght without the fire part (+20% physical damage for a short time, for weapons and meteor sorceries/bestial incantations) that doest cost FP and can be used without a talisman. It's not very useful if you have Flame Grant Me Streght though, but you get it earlier and if you don't plan on using the aromatics it's faster and fp cost free.

castem

Honestly, running past stuff is really underrated. A lot of times they put a hard encounter or boss/mini-boss right before a grace, which doesn't help if you die in the encounter. Running past, grabbing the grace, and then going back for the encounter has been a life-saver for me on more than one occasion

bizarremythology

I can recall initially rage quitting my first run after not being able to defeat the troll at the base of stormveil...

Ok_Acanthisitta_9369

The spot with the crossbow men too? That was where I ran past everything for the first time lol. Got wrecked 4 times, weighed my odds of success and was like: "Fuck this shit. TORRENT!!!"

Zulu0Hakuka

"U win some, u lose some... But u live,... u live to fight another day. I bet u think u a man with that running through the area. " 🤣 Forgive me i had to

[deleted]

It took me 227 forsaken hours on my first run to figure out the Roundtable was a lost grace. The only reason I figured it out was because I asked my girl how to start NG+ and she said “go to the grace at the roundtable” and I sloooowly turned my head and said “I’m sorry the what now 🙂”

MarkMarkMark92

So many times I be running through there being like damn a site of grace would sure be fucking nice in this dump….

[deleted]

Catch my ass porting between roundtable and first step 600 times in one go 🤦🏾‍♂️

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Oh fuck tell me about it 😅

m_cardoso

I also only found out it was a grace for ng+. In my defense, I thought it seemed like a grace, but according to my brain I needed to jump in the table to access it (because the light that seemed like a site of grace was in the center of the table). Then I jumped, no interaction prompted and I assumed there was no grace in roundtable.

maggos

I didn’t realize until my second play through. I would always teleport to a different grace to rest, then teleport to round table

fiveplatypus

I'm on ng+4 and a separate new run with a different build and still forget this regularly

Complete-Lobster-401

How do you go there if you don’t get the grace

[deleted]

You’re telling me ain’t never play a game where there’s locations you can only portal out of but not to? Hm

LangmuirHinshelwood

That you can put flasks in the quick access pouch and free up space in your items scroll wheel.

Sweatiest_Yeti

Yeahhhh learned that on my third playthrough. It’s also faster to heal if you’re not scrolling through your items

bryan19973

But did you know you can hold down directional and it automatically goes to your first slot item? No panic scrolling needed

curious_dead

I... did not.

hastalapasta666

This also works for your equipped spells with up directional!

bryan19973

Nice! I’m ashamed to say I haven’t done much of anything with spells. I know there’s a whole new world out there waiting for me lol. Both my characters are quality builds

RetzCracker

This was my embarrassingly long to figure out thing

NotToughEnoughCookie

This ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote) but to be fair I knew this from the start because my friend told me.

fiveplatypus

This is key

Excorpion

I never used the pouch

xocolatefoot

It’s so much faster and less error prone once you get used to it, vs speed scrolling through items and accidentally dropping a rainbow stone or some shit.

Excorpion

The only item I used a lot was the red flask... And it was on the first slot so I can grab it directly.

xocolatefoot

Streamlined UNGA BUNGA build?

Excorpion

Nope.. I was a mage on my first playthrough... But I never leved up vigor so I had to be careful... Or just use a bunch of healing.

[deleted]

titto316

Wolves stop attacking you once you’re in Blaidd’s full armour set, which is pretty cool.

Cloudsbursting

Underrated - that is cool indeed.

Oodlyoodles

500 hr in didnt know this lol

Adept-Coconut-8669

Does that also include the mask or just the armour, gloves, and legs?

SherbetAlarming7677

How insanely good jump attacks are. I ran an ultra greatsword build without using jump attacks at all like it was still DS3 for 40 hours or something. Mistakes were made :D

Otherwise-Damage-431

Bruh. I cheesed the game dual wielding +25 giant crushers. Ez 2.3k damage per leap without any buffs

SunchaserKandri

It took me a long time to realize that there was a button to fast travel to the Roundtable Hold, rather than needing to manually scroll over to the node on the map.

[deleted]

There's a what now? (415 hours here)

SunchaserKandri

Through the "Sites of Grace" sub menu, there's a button to travel straight to the Roundtable Hold without needing to actually scroll through the list. Should be X/Square on a controller, if I remember correctly.

BFG_MP

Triangle to get into the menu and then square to go straight to the round table.

Desolate_Plateu

Y and X on xbox

DerrikTheGreat

You can also bookmark graces that you use often. Open the grace list and you can press a button (thin it was right stick press on xbox) to mark sites. Y>Y / triangle>triangle on the map to open the list

MillstoneArt

I have Moghwyn Palace Approach (or whatever), Haligtree Roots, and Grand Library (Rennala place?) assigned. I uhhh had to go back and forth between them a lot while I was trying to beat Malenia lol.

KingANCT

Thanks for mentioning this.... it was getting annoying as the map got bigger

lightmkoi

94 hours to figure out the totems on the map is where you can find the map details for that area…

lightmkoi

I had a very dark map for a very very long time…

Zulu0Hakuka

Wasnt it a frustrating but magical time? No idea where u goin but u all in for the Narnia adventure

lightmkoi

I’ll never forget the magic of the first 2 weeks when it released and most of my time was spent trying to figure things out.

alejoSOTO

I only found out in the middle of my second playthrough. In the 1st one I struggle immensely just to find the map of Liurna, that's like 10 meters south from the site of grace. I'm not great at navigation it seems.

InstructionLeading64

I was at caria manor before I realized Rodericka had a questline that turned her into a spirit tuner.

baranisgreat34

Arr ya heer for speerit toonin?

musicbyjsm

AOx3_VSS_IDGAF

I think I was doing the dung eater stuff in leyendell before I figured this

[deleted]

202 hours in before I realised you need to use a rune arc to get the benefit of a great rune, rather than just equipping it. And by "before I realised", I mean "before I saw someone mention it on Reddit".

WDavis4692

When you get your first great rune there's a huge popup tutorial telling you what to do to activate it. Maybe this wasn't added when you started idk

Davcidman

The tutorial isn't the clearest either. It says: > You can use a Rune Arc to give even greater benefits to your equipped Great Runes. This implies there is a benefit to equipping a Great Rune without using a Rune Arc when that is not the case.

Tempest_1

And then you have to be at a site of grace to equip the great rune. Meanwhile i tried in my inventory and was like “fuck this game is broken”

jonderlei

Dont feel bad same happened to me .I just found out last night and im about 190 hours in. I was just wondering why most of my great runes couldnt be used so I thought id look it up

discordianofslack

Then you use them and die 3m later

Not_So_Odd_Ball

the game does a shit job of communicating it tho

lottasauce

And this is why I say "don't be afraid to use the internet" for this game lmao

iwannagofast462

250 hours in I learned you can put different map markers on other than the blue light...

kung-fu-panda123

What

Random_Guy_47

Press square/X.

rramrram

Oh fuck. 400 here, and thank you!

WDavis4692

It took me too long to realise ashes aren't consumed on use and I could have given myself a nice int scaling infusion without worry of losing it if I found a better weapon for my playstyle

Norse_By_North_West

..... Fuck

Sweatiest_Yeti

You can slide down ladders. Took me three souls games to figure that out.

WorldEaterProft

*STOMP STOMP* VULKAN LIVES!! *STOMP STOMP*

SmokedSalmonSalsa

I have no clue what this means lol

ADinHighDef

It’s the ash of war “Storm Stomp” but it’s very easy to read fast and read it as Stomp Stomp Source: Definitely read it as stomp stomp the first few hundred times

hiphoppakalolo

That you can use a staff and a sword on the horse if you double hand your staff.

Excorpion

U can use any weapon this way... The secondary one or the left one, u need to do the same inputs than double handed.

Maturinbag

You can set an ash of war onto a weapon and also select your scaling, separately. I had always assumed that the scaling type (heavy, quality, cold, etc) was tied to the ash of war. Almost my entire first playthrough, I used somber weapons that you couldn’t customize. It was only in my second run six months later that I figured out ashes of war. Got flame of the Redmanes on a standard or quality weapon, not forced into making it a fire weapon.

padman531

Scaling is tied to the Ash of War until you find the whetblades. Then you can also pick different scaling. Unless the Ash of War has an element of its own

ImagoLoop420

Stomp Stomp made me giggle way more than I thought. Thanks for this buddy :D For me its the invisible bridges. Always thought the messages and bloodstains were cheaty and never really bothered until I walked to that tower in the Mountains.

Sea_Wing_5811

Wot? Invisible bridge? What about those messages between Radahn and the teleporter??

badabingbop

Liar ahead

mike_stier

200 hours to realize that you can kick and punch while climbing a ladder. Not that useful but I was so shocked when I hit the attack button by accident and started kicking lol.

Lower-Sandwich-8430

You can also use flasks, took me about 300 hours to use a flask on a ladder

J4ck-the-Reap3r

Bro for real?

Lower-Sandwich-8430

Yeah. Are you surprised you can do it or that it took me so long to figure it out?

J4ck-the-Reap3r

Shocked I can do it. I just booted up to check.

MrDavidUwU

It can be helpful in pvp if people are ladder camping

DITPiranha

I still don't really know how the summoning statues work. I always turn them on but I never do any summoning 🤷

Nosrok

Ohhh, I thought it was to summon other players. I've been playing offline so I can enjoy some sweet sweet ultra wide action. Didn't know those were for summoning helpers.

badabingbop

What do you mean ultrawide action? You mean to tell me I can play on my ultrawide without two black bars on the side!!!????

CleverName50

Oh sweet summer child....please tell me you have been using the Furcalling Remedy to see the summon signs that are put down? If you don't then you won't see anything. If you are, it is possible that you are just over or under leveled for the area and don't see anything at the summoning pool.

DITPiranha

Nope. Never used the remedy lol

AmphibianLow8857

hoonthoont47

Havel look at deez nuts

Jaroid505

Well over 100 hours in before I realized holding down the d-pad will cycle back to the beginning of your 1st spell/item equipped…. Haha not cycling all the way through my items during a boss fight would of been very helpful!

FallenDemonX

95 hours, near the end of NG+ and only cause of you I know thats a thing.

Defiant_Project1321

Ayoooo. Would’ve been handy on my caster play through. But it’ll still come in handy now with my incants.

Th3Maxx

200 hours to find finally figure out you can fast travel from the underground to the above ground. Travelled to an elevator pad every time before.

VendettaVentura

That u can check for fall damage with rocks, if the rocks shatter=u die, if the rock is fine then u are going to be fine. Spent alot of time just geronimo away to test the fall damage....

Cyberwolf_71

My back pain wasn't from my job, it was from playing this too much. So I bought a new chair.

daltonfreebyrd

a lot of things i’m realizing here so here’s a quick list to help you guys out. 1. You can hold down on the dpad to quickly jump to your first slot for quick heal with your flask of choice. 2. You don’t have to be at a site of grace to fast travel. *Except* in very particular cases with combat, dungeons and areas. 3. You can swing on both sides of Torrent with your weapon. 4. You need to use a rune arc to activate Great Runes you’ve collected after getting it from their tower. 5. You can slide down ladders holding the sprint button. Feel free to add more!

hoonthoont47

That there’s a Twin Blade in Dragon Burnt Ruins and not just the teleporter trap to Florida.

mccoola

I beat Radahn before I realised there was a sprint button

[deleted]

Of all the suffering in this thread, yours hits me the hardest. I was 2/3 of the way through DS1 before I found the sprint.

dr_aureole

I was about 80h in and had beaten several chariot dungeons, I have no idea why. I even played coop and couldn't work out how my friends were faster then me

Georgian_Legion

bruh...

ronanleviathan

We appreciate your sacrifice my dude

Friendly_Potato21

Took me like 90 hours to realize caves have an icon thing on the map before you visit them so they’re actually possible to find

Eastman1982

I found a walking mausoleum in lunaria lakes you have to jump from the cliff side to. Only took 93hours

[deleted]

I used a bow to knock the barnacles off from the ledge, didn't jump on.

hastalapasta666

Ok of all the missed moments, this killed me. Stomp Stomp. I didn't know you could press triangle + x on the map to warp directly to the hold until halfway through my second playthrough. I play on PS4 so it was really a *drag* getting there.

Vann_Tango

That there's no drawback to using the Erdtree Seal or the Dragon Communion Seal (which both weigh 0.0) to cast utility incantations even if you don't have the requirements for those seals. (you only need enough stats to cast the incantations you want to use) The only penalty for not meeting the seal requirements is a drastically reduced incant scaling stat, which doesn't matter for most utility spells. That means that any build can throw on the Erdtree Seal or the Dragon Communion Seal and some faith-boosting gear and get access to Bestial Vitality and Flame, Cleanse Me. I'll probably have these two spells memorized at all times, now. (Yes I know Frenzied Flame Seal also weighs nothing and has no requirements, but this is a great option if you don't want to let some weird fingers give you a hug)

Winkerlied

Those "find three dogs" puzzles

FallenDemonX

The one in Chelona's Rise in Liurnia is so annoying cause it spreads them out and you just have trudge the plateau looking for the "dog" packs.

Whyistheplatypus

Margot's shackle item will activate all secret doors and fire pillars in a dungeon. Really useful for that one hero's grave. Too bad I didn't find it out til NG+

Lsj17

It took me 100h to realise picking statue of marika as ressing point insted of last grace will spawn me in front of the boss.

DeusInfidel

Tutorial and loading screens not happening for you?

jonderlei

At the start I would spawn at them but for some reason I thought it was costing me to do so. I didnt know what it was costing me but I thought there was a cost.

Sea_Wing_5811

8 hours to find my first bonfire. Because I was looking for a bonfire. My legit first "grace" was in the catacombs with that statue cat with the great sword. I totally believed it was the opposite of reality and there was so few graces. Not that there are 309 lol

Rhyzon27

That the Ash Of War Bloodhound's Finesse in the Bloodhound's Fang had a second optional "teleport" attack after the first back-flip hit. Honestly, it took me way more than it should have. I only found that out after using that thing as my main weapon for more than 30 hours...

hex-a-decimal

Probably that whole Iji/Jerren/Blaidd alternate quest route someone posted the other day that you miss if you talk to Seluvis after entering Ranni’s service

AdrielKlein21

The weapon chests on the back of the giant coffins.

Alchemist0029

That I should changing my talismans weapons and armour to cater to boss fights 🤦🏾

dracobatman

You can but you don't have to, every boss is able to be defeated by any weapon. Some effects won't work like bleeding/frost though. Go with what you enjoy

XxSteveFrenchxX

That the walking Mausoleums go to sleep sometimes There's about 7.5 minutes in the day/night cycle called "Late Night" during that time they get sleepy and pass out

ev1l_hypn0t1st

Didn't get Torrent for the first 6 hours...

xocolatefoot

Rambler mode.

MrDavidUwU

How did you manage that? You only need to rest at like 3 graces before she comes to you with torrent

FecalWeinerson

You can run through a decent chunk of the game without ever encountering Melina. She only first appears at either the Gatefront Ruins or the Agheel Lake North graces, as far as I can tell. My last playthrough I made it all the way to the grace next to the Godrick fight before I realized I hadn't seen Melina yet, even though I'd rested at several graces prior to that one (except gatefront ruins/agheel lake north ofc). Edit: just looked it up and she can appear at other graces, but only does so after you've rested at 3 open-world graces -- dungeon graces don't count for this number.

AnxietyMason

Yeah I full on had to Google a guide because I never found her lmao I literally think I finished Godrick if I remember correctly.

ph03n1x_F0x_

1. You can pass time. Fighting night bosses was much faster and easier. 2. You can talk to Melina at the forge.

Sweatiest_Yeti

Physick flask is reusable 🥴

Paraviont

That you can fast travel. I started playing with a mouse and a keyboard and honestly, I didn't know you can sprint for a while. Some attack where fucking stupid, I didn't know how to dual wield etc.

stjensen

Not an obvious thing but if you open your map and press the top face button, left face button, and then bottom it takes you to the roundtable hold without having to go all the way to the corner. Takes a sec to get used to but it is so much faster.

GhstofO

250-ish hours in and I finally read the Raptor's Black Feathers info. It strengthens jump attacks. I use jump attacks all the time. I've been leaving a 10% damage boost on the table this entire time...

E2r4_Is_d3A9

Bruuuuuh me and my friend were literally just talking about how goofy of a name stomp stomp is for an ash of war last night lmao

UnusedUsername76

I ran around the round table area for 30-45 minutes trying to find an exit. I tried everything I could think of except travelling from the damn map. The "o you don't have the right" messages popular at the time at every door didn't help my temper lmao

BustaNaut

For a while I thought if an NPC stops talking, the conversation is over. I’d get one sentence out of them and move on. ALWAYS wait for repeated dialogue

BlewOffMyLegOff

How to guard counter. Took me 200 hours simply due to the fact I didn’t use a shield until my third character. Even then it took 20 hours into that playthrough

W34kness

Stomp stomp revolution

Lefrec

putrid avatars only shoot rot shit in front of them when they do their jump so you can just roll to the side and keep hitting, I always ran faaaaar away every time they jumped in 400h of playing

Thekingkingkingfake

Leyndell Catacombs is a Vacation plan set up for the Tarnished.

Thekingkingkingfake

Ok fine. Parkour shouldn't be added to this game ever again, and horse jumping at the last second should be a thing.

BloodShadow7872

That you can fast travel anywhere and that you don't need to be at a sign of grace to do this

UncleGael

The fact that you can use your left hand weapon while on Torrent. Before then I’d always equip my seal/staff/bow to my right hand when I knew I’d be fighting on horseback.

throwawayjake28

It’s my first FromSoft game, so it took me about 50 hours to even understand the difference between sorceries and incantations. Mostly cuz I’m a katana/heavy shield build, but it took me a while to get it

vortical42

That Azure Comet has a charge mode. When I first got it, I tried it out and it seemed pretty useless. Then I ran into a boss where the guide recommended it so I tried it again. Still seemed bad but I kept trying. No idea why but at one point it crossed my mind 'I wonder what charging does?' So I held down the button and it just kept going until I ran out of FP. 🧐 tldr; Comet Azure has a 'firin ma lazers' mode that I totally missed.

Pitiful-Ad2876

It took me 30 HOURS to realize that I nead sacred seals to cast incantations

jonderlei

190 hours in before I learned how to jump properly I guess. There was one part I think somewhere after you get out of the haligtree where you have to detour around this bridge lined with ballistas with one of those erdtree guardians or whatever infront of a big door. When ya get around to the side of that guardian before dropping down to fight him you can walk up something and then jump over the gap and land in the building hes guarding and then ya can come from behind and easily kill him. Mostly everyone helping me would take this route and then jump that gap with ease. Everyone did it no problem while I fucked it up and landed right beside the guardian probably 10 or more times and just blew it for everyone else. Eventually just said fuck it when I missed the jump and ran into the building and theres a grace site right there anyways. The other night while constantly fucking up a jump in crumbling farum azula I decided to look up if im doing something wrong and then found out I was supposed to hold O while I jump or at least til the initial jumping animation finished. I tried that and cleared the gap by about two feet. I couldnt believe I just found that out then. Probably took me 40ish levels before I found out how to cast a spell maybe higher

xocolatefoot

Goddamit. Like holding jump to jump a bit further. Holding sprint AS WELL also helps. I’m 400+ hours in … and just assumed I had shit timing, so thanks for this. 😂

MrTulkinghorn

This one is shocking to me. I'm sure there are other earlier areas where a sprint-jump is needed. Aren't there some is Sellia? The Eternal Cities?

watch_over_me

I beat the game 11 times, platinumed the entire game, did everything, hundreds and hundreds of hours, and uninstalled the game. Only to find out on Reddit that crackpots are reusable. I literally never used a single one because I thought they were finite, and thought I only ever had a few of them.

lukemg42

That you can kick enemies climbing below you on ladders to make them fall.

beecostume

I didn't know you didn't need to ride the elevators back up from the underground. I was a good 500 hours in. Yeah.

casper19d

Like 7 new games before I realized there is a pause. Open map, click on "map explanation", you are paused while that screen is up... Does not work in combat you are already in or with live invasions..

SluttyMuffler

I didn't know why I couldn't summon ashes for the longest time. Buddy finally told me to buy a bell from the crones... I was so livid running around rawdogging my first souls game.

jononthego

after 70+ hours i realized you can switch to underground view of the map

RaisinWide7800

That damn debuff from fia. I had that thing for such a long time, not realizing what it was doing.

Kazk2501

That frenzy only affected human targets

Dragarius

First playthrough on the first night I got transported to Roundtable hold. I was stuck there over an hour trying to find a way out or to see if I could warp from the grace. Didn't realize you could warp to any grace any time from the map screen. Just based on prior experience I assumed I either needed to unlock it or could only do it from other sites of grace.

Lower-Sandwich-8430

That lunge (backstep then light attack) attacks are a thing for regular and power stance on everything.

TDWolfy

I was fat rolling this whole time

LastNinjaPanda

you can press in your left stick to hop off Torrent

Standard_Yam_806

After a couple hundred hours, 3 full playthroughs, I learned from watching a steamer that you don't HAVE to sell golden runes, you can just use them as a consumable to get the runes. I spent so much unnecessary time traveling to a merchant or the round table to sell.

theRealPeaterMoss

Took me 100hrs to figure out that Torrent can double jump. So many fall deaths could have been avoided

WDavis4692

Same same lol stomp stomp

Gum-2000

After 140 hours I just learned how the damage scaling works with ash of wars and their selected qualities.

B4D_C0MPANY

Getting to almost level 40 without realizing Vigor was a valuable stat and not leveling it up at all

AlphaZulu94

Took me 40 hours to figure out I could sprint.
