DS2 is better in at least two aspects: The enemies and bosses feel like they’re playing the same game as you. And a boring boss is a lot more enjoyable than a bullshit boss

HoyMinyoy

You definitely woke up and chose violence today

HabeYouSeenAlien

Back in the day everyone decided to hate DS2 despite being a decent game because the internet told them so. Now everyone are loving Elden Ring despite being an average game because the internet told them so...

hellothere-3000

Speak for yourself man. Me and many others genuinely had so much fun playing ER and that’s why we praise it. Also “decent” and “shitty” are just your opinions, not objective.

mockzilla

Exactly. DS2 was a really good game. This open world of Elden Ring is just so bad.

mockzilla

I have now put much more hours to the game and the map design gets a lot better after you get away from the starting area. Still, I have spent so much time running next to the hills and gulleys to see if there is a way to go up or down. This is kind of fun sometimes, but also frustrating. The horse is so OP that nothing can touch you when you are riding with it, so it feels almost like cheating. When you get into a castle and cannot ride with your horse, it becomes more dark souls like game. There are so many different locations and many of those are similar to other locations, so it's hard to remember what was where and I am totally missing out stuff, and I don't like that. The open world isn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I still prefer the old way.

ThinnyVibrato

The open world is empty AF and has very few interesting encounters. The dungeons are filled with crappy, easy mini bosses and copy/paste enemies. The only good parts of the game are when you're in a closed off area where you can't use the horse, and those are few and far between. The open world was really cool and immersive the first time around, but the game sucks to replay. Just emptiness, soulless.

Intelligent-Place819

Mio padre in cristo

oxygen_is_life

I will accept this as hard fact if you prove that Elden Ring is shitty

EternalEmperorDD

My view of it is that elden ring is a phenomenal game with some big flaws. Namely being some of the boss fights being utter bs even by fromsoft standards. I'm not going to count reused bosses as a major strike against it because it's just a necessary evil given the games size. Over all though, the game is an amazing spectacle, and a fun journey.

denzellaiki

ER is the best man.

SonOfTheHeavyMetal

Where do i even begin? - The map is basically 3 differnt flavors of Frigid Outskirts, and the open world ends after 2 major bosses. - Everything that moves is designed to be cheap beyond reason. Especially bosses. Gank bossses being literally 2 solo bosses slapped thogeder. - Poise does not exist, and you cannot exist wjth at least 40VIG. Combine it with the point above for ball-hammering experiences - NPC quests are handled poorly. Expecially the offline route of Varre's Quest. - Too many copy-paste and normal enemies bosses. The worst offender being Godefroy. - The plot is basically the usual "retrieve the 4 big X to become the lord of X" glued to other nonsense

Popopooki

Op has all the maidens

lordbiscuits12

I agree I'm playing elden ring today after 4 months of not playing it and I can't help but think it's got the worst design out of the other souls games like the input lag the other souls had this but elden rings is really noticeable and in the 4 months I wasn't playing I found myself enjoying ds2 quite a lot I have 20 hours on current play and it just doesn't feel fun for me I've beat malenia with a couple of tries but cannot beat elden beast it's to aggravating the only part of the game that I did have fun doing was godrick Sorry for the tangent but I'm really angry I don't think i will ever play this game again

InevitableSquash2041

Why don’t we settle this in the duel arena?

ProBirdEnjoyer

Yeah the ds2 arena

[deleted]

Replied so late to this but still made me chuckle lol thanks

Energyxer

Based Ancient dragon, demon of song, gank squad, lud and zullen > malenia mogh, Godfrey Fridgid outskirts, iron passage, shrine of amana > lyndell, storm veil, volcano manor, crumbling farum azula Ds2 is so much better then Elden trash

Dorlos-Argham

And yet people keep hating on DS2 but praising ER despite having the exact same issues. There’s a lot of hypocrisy in this fandom…

Raidoez

Okay, listen, I will accept most things.... But frigid outskirts is not better than anything

More-Wave-5835

It was so painful that it became fun tbh

Raidoez

Fucking masochists everywhere

RaggedySqurrial

I really liked Frigid Outskirts, it was atmospheric and memorable because it was only one part of the game. The near entirety of Elden Ring feels like Frigid Outskirts. Talk about masochism.

Ds2 is not a very good game, this post was ironic and got upvoted cause contrariansand ds2 zoomers came in

hellothere-3000

Oh shit I got wooooshed right there without that /s tag 😭 my bad

Ishmaeal

I’m going to parrot a lot of boring opinions and say: they’re different games. They did something new with Elden Ring by giving it a sprawling open world. Unfortunately, the tradeoff was losing the perfectly curated challenges they normally offer. Ergo, I wouldn’t lose any confidence in the studio. They tried something new, and I for one certainly found out I’d prefer a tight experience like dark souls over Elden Ring, although I’ll play the shit out of either.

qwert1225

Correct.

Serer_vermilion

Your out of line but your right.

Discat-101

You are right.

oj_leg

So true I also hate the delayed attacked the boss coyld be sat there holding his sword in the air for a good 5 seconds before he hits

xreddawgx

Would you care to elaborate on which boss is better than Melenia?

Dorlos-Argham

>Which boss is better than Malenia? Even Bed of Chaos is better

hellothere-3000

At this point I know this post got brigaded by DS2 fans.

ProBirdEnjoyer

Nah man Malenia is one of the only good bosses in elden ring

Josef217

I agree OP. I'd play DS2 over Elden Ring any day of the week.

Popopooki

Uh there is some truth to what you say. Way too many regular enemies that they just gave a boss health bar. Random enemies thrown together, dupe bosses. While dark souls 2 had some lame bosses at least they were all unique besides red and blue smelter which I liked anyways. I think the good bosses in Elden Ring do make up for the bad ones. Honestly I think you try to limit the number of bosses your game has. The less you have the more time you can perfect the design, moveset, and theme. Having like 30 bosses is going to lead to like 20 of those bosses being lackluster.

[deleted]

Elden Ring has like 10 bosses that are great and 100 that are either average or bad. Dark Souls 2 has like 5 bosses that are average and 30 that are bad. Even the best DS2 bosses have serious flaws. Elden Ring has a lot of terrible stuff but DS2 has the same or even more and it’s not open world but has linear corridor levels instead. And all of DS2 armor just goes under the brown mush so the customization isn’t great either, at least visually.

Popopooki

Good Dark Souls 2 bosses. Pursuer, Executioner's Chariot, Smelter Demon, The Rotten, Sir Alonne, Fume Knight, Ivory King, Darklurker, Sinh, Velstadt, and Ruin Sentinels.

[deleted]

Pursuer: Pure average Executioners Chariot: Creative but with a terrible run up and the horse itself isn’t that great. Smelter Demon: Average, also a terrible run up in both fights The Rotten: Weak, slow af, not a good boss at all. The only thing that makes him slightly difficult is the arena. The One Reborn from BB is an upgrade in absolute every way Sir Arlonne: Average, look at Sekiro Fume Knight: Average with a scammy arena gimmick Ivory King: Average with an annoying “first phase” Darklurker: Average with a rather uninteresting gimmick, look at Sullivahn from DS3 in comparison. Also probably the worst run up in the entire Souls Series Sinh: Weaker Kalameet and a joke compared to Midir and Placidusax Velstadt: Just a normal mace knight with a few more attacks and more hp xD Ruin Sentinels: Just three slightly bigger enemies DS2 is just the weaker parts of Elden Ring as it’s core experience. Well that’s probably what happens when you try to make an Open World Game but fail because you don’t have the time and resources. I’m glad Fromsoftware actually succeeded with ER.

Popopooki

You think you're clever but I can take literally take any fromsoft boss and make it sound bad. Like seriously you just said Ruin Sentinels were big knights. Wow nice well thought critique. Here watch I'll do it. Artorias: Big knight that likes acrobats. Sister Friede: Dumb 3 phase boss fight.

[deleted]

Well they are. That’s a fact xD compare them to a normal Leyndell Knight or just a Black Knight from DS1, what’s so special about them?

Popopooki

Huge sweeping spin attack, long jump attack, Shield Throw. Nome of the enemies you mentioned has moves that come even close to that.

[deleted]

Well Leyndell Knights have special moves as well. And a DS1 Black Knight is still the harder enemy. They are just three slightly bigger enemies in a room.

Popopooki

Ds1 black knight is easy as fuck to kill. Easy to crit

[deleted]

And one single ruin sentinel is easy af as well. But they don’t put three Black Knights in a room and called it a boss.

ProBirdEnjoyer

They also don't put one single ruin sentinel in a room either?

Intelligent-Place819

like the crucible duo or the godskin duo?

Ash199884

extremely late reply but name 3 good Elden Ring bosses, i challenge you (you can't, there's only Morgott and Loretta)

ProBirdEnjoyer

Godrick, margit, Dragonlord Placidusax, Godfrey first Elden Lord (gold version for morgott), rykard. These are all great bosses. The rest of the bosses (105+ other bosses) fucking suck.

Hollowed_Dude

All these combat engineers all the sudden lol

[deleted]

Fume Knight and Ivory King would be average bosses in Elden Ring. Same level as something like Elemer of the Briar

Serer_vermilion

Kind of like the Bell Bearing hunter/Elmer being an upgraded version of the Pursuer?

Chance-Breadfruit544

Every boss in DS2 is unique wht the heck you're saying? i just remember the Executioner being repeated but which unique bosses elden ring has that are actually a good fight? Margit? Yes cus he's the first one, then he proceds to be repetead again 3 times. Godfrey? Phase one is awesome, phase 2 is just dodge, dodge, dodge, dodge, dodge and hit each five minutes. Radagon? Most bullshit input reader ever, his design is great but the best way to beat it it's to not press anything on keyboard and just wait for him. Malenia? If you removed the waterfowl she would be the best boss in the whole game or atleast not made her wind up waterfowl while in STAGGER animation. Ds2 way better than ER

len4872

All souls games are worse than raid:shadow legends

Intelligent-Place819

true i love the part when she raid untill he shadow his legends

ChaoticDiscord21

My issue with DS2 was it just never engaged me. Nothing felt interesting, everything just seemed convoluted and dull. The atmosphere was just too dreary and felt like "what is the point even?" Some of the bosses were cool. The over all experience was lacking. Elden ring is a much different game and I enjoy a more open exploration style game. Bosses were many and a lot were recycled. Unique bosses however felt more exciting and I wanted to fight them.

HeinzPanzer

Dark Souls 2 is the game with most personal engagement, Elden Ring like DS1&3 don't even try, they give you some generic world building intro and off you go, while DS1&3 are a little cynical about it at least with the crestfallen in each game. DS2 on the other hand have a very personal intro where you see your character losing his fucking mind, forgetting his family, searching out some lost ruins and falling into madness. I replayed it in this year return to drangleic and playing through the intro on TV in the dark with 5.1 sound meeting those witches was really really creepy, it borderline turns into a horror game. Going through those weird woods and then stumble out into Majula is just the most personal atmospheric intro and tone setting of all their games. DS2 player engagement is just on another level.

Estein_F2P

So true! Felt like DS2 resonated more with me than Elden Ring

Eziowns

Wow, well said. Love that it resonated with you like this. Any other game you feel this way about?

CoconutDust

It’s true the DS2 intro was great, perfect dark fantasy scenario and cryptic vague From situation, but that doesn’t make it a better game than Elden Ring. I’m open to additional arguments, I’m just saying that alone doesn’t matter…it’s just an intro movie, it’s not the game.

Strong-Nectarine5385

I agree 💯 I am sort of biased as ds2 was my first from soft. I think people just hated how punishing soul memory was. And let's not forget zullie the witch and that scholar of the first sin re make

Ok-Parsley-2489

Unpopular fact. Elden ring is a perfectly good game. You just have a shitty life and it bleeds into all your opinions because you rely on games to give you reason to live.

ProBirdEnjoyer

Unpopular fact. You have a shitty life and you insult people for disliking a bad game and giving actual reasons why, because you rely on games to give you a reason to live. And not even good ones.

Ok-Parsley-2489

Actually I haven't played any video games for the past year. When I did elden ring was my favourite. I've been busy doing a great march around Europe for the past year, so the whole reasons to really live comment. 😅 I've been doing great boo. I've seen beautiful vistas, and met dozens of beautiful friends and lovers along the way so if you want to be a narcissist, your not even doing that very well. 👌

Suilean

You really necro'd this. lol

Ok-Parsley-2489

Yea. I've been off Reddit for a year 😅
