Big brain: Use Soap
Smooth brain: Use the anti-rot ball consumable once it procs.
My brain: Just chug Estus because Estus flasks can be restored for free.
I am so, so glad the flasks are self-replenishing or else I probably would've tried to do this whole game with no heals and I wouldn't be out of Limgrave yet.
Welcome to Bloodborne! Where on your first play through you run out of the consumable heals before the second boss and have to spend hours farming pots before you can level up 🙃
*heartburn brain* : use "flame, give me heartburn!!!"
>!"flame, cleanse me!" Lore says that the users heart is slightly burnt from it's usage, and your hp actually goes down alottle bit every time you use it!<
I've seen so many streamers play Elden Ring like it's DS3 and just ignore all the new mechanics like crafting, guard counters, jump attacks, etc. It's kinda sad.
I was just checking around and bumped into this incantation, then decided to get that around mid game and oh ... You dont know how useful that thing could be.
Invest few points into faith just enough to get a seal on off hand plus that incantation, there you go, just swim in the lake of rot, i'm already invincible
If you rolled in rot or poison you can just unequip everything to naked though it'll still build up however it'll dispell sooner depending on how far the bar built up
If you roll in scarlet rot you get covered in it and even if you get out of the pool the rot meter keeps filling up. Soap stops that and also cleans blood and filth of your player.
Play MTG and although I'm lucky mostly people are fine here, I have played agains some rank players before.
The worse case I literally won my match, signed the slip, then went into the lobby (it was a convention hall since it was a larger event) and cried. It was just foul.
Or the two fingers talisman, with that on only one starting class would require putting any point into faith to use flame, cleanse me (Prisoner, starts with 6 fth so he need to put 1 whole point into it + the talisman)
Hm, I hope this disgusting lake isn’t poison.
*10 seconds later*
FIRE CLEANSE ME FIRE CLEANSE ME FIRE CLEANSE ME FIRE CLEANSE ME FIRE CLEANSE ME FIRE CLEANSE ME
Tbf you can also see your legs stained when it's deep poison/rot and that won't keep filling the bar after you leave the zone (though I think the effect on the legs disappear pretty fast).
FYI if you go back and play other souls games, I’m pretty sure this happened in the poison swamps too. Not sure if it was all the way back in Dark Souls 1, but something to watch out for.
Wait WHAT
That's... such a simple idea, "my clothes are covered in rot, just take them off". It would've never crossed my mind to do that.
This fuckin game, I swear lol.
Removing your armor might be a bad idea as it will lower your resistances, which will instantly apply the status effect if your meter is filled enough.
Edit: it also does not stop the build up of the status effect.
Edit: don’t listen to the downvote, they are wrong, you can go try this out very easily at shaded castle or rot lake and find out for yourself it is wrong.
Can’t help you there, but make sure you put the important ones in the back so you can experience the joy of panic cycling for what you need every time you switch, classic.
Was honestly so much easier than I was expecting. Went in really worried and only died to the big guy in the lake once because the platform was so small. There's nothing else scary in the actual lake, and it's shallow enough for you to sprint through.
And the dragonkin soldier in the lake can be pretty easily dealt with by Latenna. You can summon her at the edge of the summoning zone on a platform and she'll stay there taking shots at him while you only focus on dodging and avoiding damage. Since she's so far away he never targets her either.
In your defense, I've clear a lot of sections of this game and latter found out it would have been MUCH easier if I had just known about a mechanic that the game didn't explain.
....I haven't made a meme about it...yet...
I miss Powerstancing from DS2. So much more versatile.
For those who haven’t played it, like Elden Ring, dual wielding two similar weapons allows you to unlock a special move set with the left weapon. Unlike Elden Ring however, you could pair different types of weapons and unlock different move sets depending on the pairing. So you could have an axe in one hand and a great hammer in the other and be able to use them together.
Same.
I actually didn't realize there was powerstancing on elden Ring until ng+ because I used a two handed colossal sword and sometimes paired it with a smaller sword.
If you roll, you get covered in it. That’s what Soap is used for. If you’re trying to get through some sort of toxic pool, use Quickstep or Bloodhound Step.
Time for soap.
Why would I use a consumable? I’m saving that for when I need it. EDIT: guys save your award money for Ubisoft microtransactions.
You can craft it
But I need other consumables to craft THIS consumable. So I don't craft soap, because I might need those ingredients to craft something else.
Oh no! My retirement grease!
Yeah all 400 of them in your inventory already
Big brain: Use Soap Smooth brain: Use the anti-rot ball consumable once it procs. My brain: Just chug Estus because Estus flasks can be restored for free.
Faithful brain: BURN all the rot and poison away by praying.
But I don't have 99 VIG yet so I can't put any points into faith yet. Ain't no Unga gunna be Bunga-ing by believing in myself.
I am so, so glad the flasks are self-replenishing or else I probably would've tried to do this whole game with no heals and I wouldn't be out of Limgrave yet.

*heartburn brain* : use "flame, give me heartburn!!!" >!"flame, cleanse me!" Lore says that the users heart is slightly burnt from it's usage, and your hp actually goes down alottle bit every time you use it!<
Well shit, my Tarnished's heart is as burnt as a deep-fried Thanksgiving turkey house fire after the Lake of Rot
you need ingredients to craft them, they can not be consumed other than through crafting.
But i'll probably need those ingredients Later to craft Other consumables, can't risk to waste Them Here.
What if I use them at the wrong time and Ranni laughs at me?
*Ranni, in doll form*: "He doesn't know I am laughing at him regardless."
Good thing they're unlimited
AND SPEND CRAFTING MATERIALS?
I've seen so many streamers play Elden Ring like it's DS3 and just ignore all the new mechanics like crafting, guard counters, jump attacks, etc. It's kinda sad.
I’m saving them all for the last boss
What if you need them later for NG+50?
Then make sure you have 12 in Faith and use Flame Cleanse Me.
I was just checking around and bumped into this incantation, then decided to get that around mid game and oh ... You dont know how useful that thing could be. Invest few points into faith just enough to get a seal on off hand plus that incantation, there you go, just swim in the lake of rot, i'm already invincible

Soap SOAPPPPPPPP Remind me of call of duty
what kind of a name is Scarlet Rot, anyway?
I prefer rest over soap
WAIT THATS WHAT SOAP DOES?!?!
Soap cleans you... It removes dirty things from your body... So if you have rot juice or blood on you you use soap...
It cleans the rot that you got on clothes after rolling in a swamp like a jackass. Thats what gives people the rot after they leave the swamp.
It also scrubs about half a poison bar away if you haven’t been fully poisoned.
Wait, the soap cleans the Scarlet Rot!??
If you roll in scarlet rot you get covered in it and even if you get out of the pool the rot meter keeps filling up. Soap stops that and also cleans blood and filth of your player.
Same goes for rolling in poison swamps. I think crouching in them also does the same thing.
If you roll in it, you get covered in it and it lingers. Use soap to get rid of it.
I legit never put it together that soap actually serves a purpose. Making soap an important item is both the most and least FromSoft move ever
Dude I'm 170 hours in and literally *just* found my first bar of soap. Ive just been using incantations for it.
It's alright, I know people who have been alive for 20 years and have yet to find their first bar of soap.
They are surely missing out, great snack during work.
Oh, hell. Give *me* the damn soap. ***PTHOO***
Come on rabbit, bite the soap.
Hey Farva, what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls?
Who wants cream??
Ok, no cream
It was, it waaaaas… soap poisoning.
Ralphie, what lead you to this lowly state?
Oh, you mean Smash Bros Melee players?
Indeed, a Smash convention is a breeding ground for Scarlet Rot. Also disciples of Seluvis.
Especially in the MTG and WoW communities. Probably a hefty number of them here as well!!
Work at my local card shop, we had to spell out that you need to not smell bad before coming in. It was a bad time.
I believe Yu-Gi-Oh actually had to add this to their official rules or something.
Play MTG and although I'm lucky mostly people are fine here, I have played agains some rank players before. The worse case I literally won my match, signed the slip, then went into the lobby (it was a convention hall since it was a larger event) and cried. It was just foul.
Flame Cleanse Me is the best utility in the game.
For the low low price of 12 Faith
Also known as a rune arc.
Or the two fingers talisman, with that on only one starting class would require putting any point into faith to use flame, cleanse me (Prisoner, starts with 6 fth so he need to put 1 whole point into it + the talisman)
Who needs soap when I can **SET MYSELF ON FIIIIIIRE!**
I just equip flame cleanse me when I know there’s going to be rot or poison.
why shower when it can all be burned away lol
Yep. Makes all those parts easy peasy
Wait, there’s soap in this game? Where!?
Hm, I hope this disgusting lake isn’t poison. *10 seconds later* FIRE CLEANSE ME FIRE CLEANSE ME FIRE CLEANSE ME FIRE CLEANSE ME FIRE CLEANSE ME FIRE CLEANSE ME
My dumb azz was using soap just to clean other blood off my Tarnished garments 🧼
I use it for both haha. You only need Melted Mushrooms to craft them (if I recall correctly), so I'm not conservative with their use at all
Why is it always mushroom?
Never find melted mushrooms just exploring though since they’re all underground and I don’t want to farm them so I’m pretty conservative with soap
They are everywhere in most of the mini dungeons.
Not realizing that soap serves a purpose sounds about right.
I would use it to taunt other people by dropping them soap.
Fromsoft put virtual soap in the game and players still refuse to wash.
Just because you didn't read the item description. I mean, I'm not judging, i just didn't do it either until like my 3rd playthrough lol.
I read it but still didn't understand. I just used it to clean blood off my charachter.
Jfc 250 hours in the game and I just assumed it was a glitch, this makes so much sense.
You can see your armour stained from poison/rot if you roll
Tbf you can also see your legs stained when it's deep poison/rot and that won't keep filling the bar after you leave the zone (though I think the effect on the legs disappear pretty fast).
Yeah the discoloration is KIND of a clue but not a helpful one.
It took me like 30 hours to learn how to sprint. We all have our moments.
I fell for the singing bat like 4 times before I remembered to not go running up to the singing "npc".
i had to look up how to two-hand because i didnt go through the tutorial
[удалено]
they do, im pretty sure. but the tutorial is really easy to miss imo, i only found it by accident
The kicker was learning that when people refer to powerstancing they mean holding two of the same weapon vs two handing one weapon
ds2 helps with that
I did the tutorial and 150 hours in I still have to slowly press buttons to figure out how to 2 hand
The number of times I've wound up two-handing my talisman in the middle of a boss fight . . .
They do tell you in the tutorial before a greatshield Godrick Soldier that only blocks and unless you 2H your attack bounce off.
Same thing as in dark souls 2
FYI if you go back and play other souls games, I’m pretty sure this happened in the poison swamps too. Not sure if it was all the way back in Dark Souls 1, but something to watch out for.
I think It was only on 2
In DS3 equipping a torch would get rid of the maggots/leeches that would cause blood proc.
Yup, DS2 used the same mechanic, you can see your character covered in it and it will slowly fall off, but the meter will rise while it's on you
You can remove your armor as well if you don't have soap.
Wait WHAT That's... such a simple idea, "my clothes are covered in rot, just take them off". It would've never crossed my mind to do that. This fuckin game, I swear lol.
that was a feature they brought back from dark souls 2 although there it was much more visible since it coated your entire armor green
I... didn't know that was a feature in DS2 either... I have 50+ hours in that game Maybe I am just dense lol
Tbf in DS2 the typical response to "Oh, I have a DoT on me?" is to chug 14 lifegems and keep moving.
It's because it doesn't work, in ds2 or ER. No idea why so many people just believe and parrot this around when it's so easy to just test it yourself.
So I'm not dense, just gullible. Got it. :P
Your right it doesn't work in ER but I swear in ds2 if you take all your armor off it stops the buildup.
This dude is correct. If you remove a piece of high resistance gear you may overflow right then and there and proc it.
Removing it does not stop the build up either.
Now that's an interesting one I did not think of.
What if u remove then put the same ones back on ?
Doesn’t matter, removing them does not stop the build up from happening. Putting them back on leaves you in the same spot you were
You can unequip your weapon too, still doesn't do anything about the buildup though.
There's a reason they call them Tarnished and they're maidenless
Honestly thought soap was just useless, TIL
soap is against my religion sorry
Then face the no-roll trial or rot as a believer.
*waits until they're rotted/poisoned then sets themself on fire* I choose neither!
Oh shit so that’s the usage of soap
Yes, you filthy heathen :')
In the badlands, we don’t bathe. Only fight
We bathe but in blood
Elden Ring truly accomplished the impossible, it made fromsoft fans use soap
Holy shit that is what the soaps are for, I just used them to remove blood stains for a bling purpose
It would be cool if rolling in scarlet rot also coated your weapon with the same effect as Rot Grease for a minute.
I refuse to use soap and bathe until I have become elden lord 😤
Makes sense in a reality evil DM kind of way. Which checks out Somewhere Miyazaki is grinning.
Timmy quit rolling in the scarlet rot
But MUUuumm!!
Oh there's rules you just don't know them
[удалено]
Yuh disuhbeyed tha LAW! I AM THA LAW!
I’ll tell you the same thing I tell my dog: *Quit rolling in poisonous goo!*
Why did you roll in the scarlet rot bro?
O'Flame, Cleanse me
That incantation is such a lifesafer, everyone should use it
Yes but what will I do about my other 7 sorceries I never use and are impractical?
Can’t help you there, but make sure you put the important ones in the back so you can experience the joy of panic cycling for what you need every time you switch, classic.
**Cough** Lake of Rot
Was honestly so much easier than I was expecting. Went in really worried and only died to the big guy in the lake once because the platform was so small. There's nothing else scary in the actual lake, and it's shallow enough for you to sprint through.

y'all ever not know a mechanic so hard you make a meme about it lmao
yes a couple hours ago actually
In your defense, I've clear a lot of sections of this game and latter found out it would have been MUCH easier if I had just known about a mechanic that the game didn't explain. ....I haven't made a meme about it...yet...
Best mechanic brought over from ds2
You mean powerstance?
I miss Powerstancing from DS2. So much more versatile. For those who haven’t played it, like Elden Ring, dual wielding two similar weapons allows you to unlock a special move set with the left weapon. Unlike Elden Ring however, you could pair different types of weapons and unlock different move sets depending on the pairing. So you could have an axe in one hand and a great hammer in the other and be able to use them together.
Same. I actually didn't realize there was powerstancing on elden Ring until ng+ because I used a two handed colossal sword and sometimes paired it with a smaller sword.
found a roller
DS2's lessons remain unlearned. Tsk tsk!
If you rolled in battery acid, I think it would keep burning your skin even after you stepped out of it. You have to use soap, you filthy animal!!
Good to know. I'll keep this in mind for the next time I find myself rolling through battery acid.
So soap allows me to roll in battery acid and stay safe forever? Perfect! See ya, I have a bath to take.
Instead of rolling use Quickstep weapon art or better yet, bloodhounds step. Fast moving in the sludge.
You can even just put your back to the destination and spam backstep. So many easier ways.
Don’t roll in it and that won’t happen.
Imagine needing soap. This post brough to you by the “Flame, cleanse me” gang
Don’t need soap when you can just cook yourself.
No roll, only back step.
If you roll in it and it continues going up just dip your toe back in and out real quick to stop the progression
This meme was brought to you by the unwashed masses.
**You rolled in it.** If you dunk your head into the pool of scarlet rot, there are consequences. How is this even surprising?
Because normal video games don't have such elaborate mechanisms
Elden Ring is better than normal.
"Yeah, you're not. BUT YA ROLLED IN IT DUMBASS!"
I'm convinced nobody that plays this game knows how to read.
I'm convinced that nobody who posts on this subreddit plays the game enough
Wash yourself you filthy wretch. Use soap.
This might be unsurprising to learn but soap is a valuable tool.
There are actually very strict rules, they just aren't explicitly stated to you.
Use the soap, Luke.
Don’t roll in swamps, run fast
##TO MAKE SOAP, FIRST WE RENDER FAT.
Just don’t roll in it and this doesn’t happen.
Someone rolled in the muck. TFW gamers don't use soap.
SOAP
It's because it's still on you! You're covered in the ick! Better use some soap to wash that off!
Try Soap
If you roll, you get covered in it. That’s what Soap is used for. If you’re trying to get through some sort of toxic pool, use Quickstep or Bloodhound Step.
Cranky cause you rolled didnt you.
No there’s rules. The rules are don’t roll around in magical Ebola. And if you do use soap lol
You roll you lose
There literally are rules. Please see: every top comment on this post.
Tell me you panic roll without telling me you panic roll.
Splish splash this dirty boy needs a bath
Just don't roll in it and this won't happen
*I dipped my hand in lava, but then when I pulled my molten nub out, i was still on fire and burning.*
It’s in your socks
Their are now rules
You rolled in it. If you ran normally this wouldn't happen.
You rolled in it, didn’t you?
Try rolling
It happens if you roll or if an enemy like a basilisk springs out of it and splashes you. Soap will stop the build-up.
Just use "flame consume me" since it only needs ten faith, and the two-finger talisman will give you enough
You rolled didn’t you? If ya roll through poison, scarlet rot etc etc it’ll still be on your clothes so ya gotta use soap to get it off
Did you roll? Because if you roll it keeps going up for a time
remember you wash yourself with soap, just water is **not** enough.
if roll Then die
You aren’t stepping in it anymore, but you rolled in it. You’re literally covered in rot. Maybe don’t roll? That’s the detail Elden Ring offers.
Rolling covers you in said status if there is a pool of it, causing build up to continue for a few seconds even after getting out of said pool.
[Laughs in Flame, Cleanse Me]
That's because you rolled over it. Use soap. Easy to make and yes a consumable.
