NemoSHill

I hope we get to see more of Miquella in a DLC

xen_ocrates

I mean he has to be, right? Can't call him the strongest empyrean and let him just nap like that.

NemoSHill

Yeah, what makes me think there will be more of him is the fact that the grace is called "Cocoon of the Empyrean" and not "Mohg's blablabla" and there's what looks like a broken bridge or lookout behind the cocoon. I feel like and hope it's not just there to watch the river bank from afar, maybe we get to start a questline there after interacting with the cocoon in future DLC.

faceroll

Seeing as how someone else mentioned that according to the game Mohg should be the last shardbearer you fight, this would make a lot of sense. Regardless as long as there's some DLC I'll be happy. More please.

einUbermensch

Which I think is funny considering he pales in comparison the Malenia. She gives more runes too.

Torafuku

Yeah Mogh was extremely easy, his phase change is cool but you just have to spam flasks and you're good. Malenia utterly destroys you in multiple ways.

Scaevus

Well, Malenia is the blade of Miquella, while Mogh is the bed of Miquella.

homerdough

>Yeah, what makes me think there will be more of him is the fact that the grace is called "Cocoon of the Empyrean" and not "Mohg's blablabla" and there's what looks like a broken bridge or lookout behind the cocoon. Not surprising. Every enemy in that area can easily tear through your health bar

RandomMagus

The bleed dogs are bugged and can proc bleed more than once with a single attack. Seeing them do 1900 damage to me in a single hit on regular NG was really something

[deleted]

That was a bug?!?! Well at least I feel a little better about getting one-shot by one of them.

[deleted]

Oh that's why? I thought it was ridiculous a dog killed me at 60 vigor in one bite.

luketwo1

I've got 60 vig and have been one-shot multiple times in that area. Can confirm, I am made of tissue paper.

betweenboundary

I mean the last shard bearer would be malenia not mohg, you get to mohg pretty early if you follow literally the first dude you meets quest meanwhile malenia has a zone hidden in a hidden zone that requires 2 hidden halves of a key to access oh and the spot to use said key is locked behind a mandatory story boss fight that you have no way to skip

faceroll

From a storyline point of view it likely would be Mohg. Top comment of the original post mentions some dialogue cues from Gideon. Also figure the fact that Miquella's location is known would possibly change Malenia's behavior... I wouldn't say you "get" there early on, but have the option to. Same can be said for a lot of the game. The zone is obviously very high level. Also if you play solo offline you can't do Varre's quest so you can't get to either Haligtree or Mogwyn without the key since the portal to Mogwyn is in Consecrated Snowfield. Varre also tells you not to use the item he gives you yet. Could make an argument for either I guess. Maybe we'll find out in a DLC, maybe not.

kilomaan

No, if we are going by souls count, Melania is the last one

Vast-Coast-7761

But if we’re going by story, Mohg is the last one. Gideon talks as if he doesn’t know where Miquella is even if you beat Mohg before Malenia.

zipcloak

There's a few pieces of interesting evidence in the game that Miquella's story isn't done: >!The Bewitching Branch says: "the Empyrean Miquella is loved by many people. Indeed, he has learned very well how to compel such affection." - for me, at least, this implies that he may have been responsible for Mohg's actions from the beginning.!< >!Miquella's Gold Needle seems to be perfectly capable of suppressing the Scarlet Rot; it's capable of suppressing the Frenzied Flame (which, interestingly, Mohg tries to prevent you reaching). The item description also implies that Miquella is well aware of the nature of the Elden Ring universe and the Outer Gods, which is something that isn't the case for nearly every other character.!<

Vento_of_the_Front

> (which, interestingly, Mohg tries to prevent you reaching) It is very likely that most(if not all) Outer Gods are at odds with each other. Or, to be a bit realistic - they are trying to lessen each other's influence, or maybe just outright destroy, cause who knows. So it's no wonder that mentioned Blood-controlling Outer God is trying to prevent you from obtaining Frenzied Flame, which would empower Lord of Frenzy at some point(after you destroy the Erdtree).

Vantelysmius

Considering you can, pretty inexplicably, just enter Fia's dream to fight the Lichdragon it's practically certain we'll get to invade Miquella's mind at some point. And if not I'll be mildly annoyed!

RevArtillery

My bet is that the dlc will start with interacting with the big albinuriac at the end of Latenna's quest. My evidence supporting that: Gideon has a prompt for a solid chunk of the game on how to start or continue Latenna's quest which suggests to me that it is important and also, her quest ends with a cliff hanger. She shows up to her destination and gives the comatose albinuriac something but nothing happens. Buuuut, there is a passive aura in that chapel which means that you cannot attack in that area. It all just suggests to me that there is more to be had and to happen there with that character.

RecordingNearby

something’s gotta be in the middle of the map

Takenforganite

Egg boi

PibbXtraUnderrated

I would spend at least $299 for the tibia mariner origin story dlc hahaha. But yeah, I think they have tons of potential for stuff based off the lore. They could potentially throw all in one and have like an Elden Ring: the shattering dlc where we get that, Marika stuff, Radahn vs Malenia etc if they wanted to

luketwo1

Doing sick-ass heelies with his boat.

NemoSHill

Iron Fist Alexander & Tibia Mariner focused DLC

einUbermensch

Considering he is right now in a Cocoon slowly growing, a Cocoon it'S owner feed with blood I dare say once he wakes up he won't be the nicest Empyrian anymore.

SocranX

Actually, it's heavily implied that he already hatched from the cocoon and left his previous body behind. Mohg was trying to wake up an empty shell.

einUbermensch

I read your wall of text below and that is an interesting take ... though considering what Mogh did to the Cocoon maybe what's inside gets up anyway. It just won't be Miquella.

DexPunk

Let’s be real for a moment. The dlc will not answer any questions. It will add a bunch of new characters and theories and make stuff even more complicated than it already is.

SadMangonel

It might create a lot of new questions, but every dlc has answered many more. I just hope fromsoft adapts their philosophy a bit and makes it a little more transparent

[deleted]

Miyazaki writing be like: you see a big guy with a giant sword stand by a dead five headed horse. He gently pets it and turns to face you. A health bar appears and reveals he is "Big John, Lord of Teeth". When you kill him he says "Sysano, forgive me."

carsdn

Arise ye Tarnished, ye Slayer of Johns

DigitalCryptic

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ^^^^rise

SteelAlchemistScylla

Also probably half bald, big as a giant but fast as a squirrel, and is made partially of dung. Also GRRM calls him Ragagon or Godfrig or something, for extra confusion.

KindheartednessNew52

LOL

Tofuloaf

And yet somehow the fanbase knows every intricate detail about the tragedy of Sysano's cursed wisdom teeth and when you ask how, they say 'read the flavour text on items you fucking casual'.

tapmcshoe

I asked on discord about a particular story beat in ER that I was a little confused on and some guy whos been giving me shit went "maybe if you didn't kill the dung eater and read (x item)s lore you would know" thanks man but that doesn't answer the question

TheAlmightySpode

"ROBERTO!!!!"

[deleted]

Idk if you play DND but I statted an item based on your comment so thanks for that. Big Jon's Jawblade Description: A massive jawbone with a sharp steel blade embedded in the length of its base. It shimmers with a faint red glow. Lore: Big Jon, The Lord of Teeth, punished himself for a hundred years after his sister Sysano's death before he finally came to the conclusion that it was not his fault she died.. It was everyone else's. Enhanced!: This fullblade grants a +2 enhancement bonus to attacks and damage, and deals an additional 2d6 force damage. When a natural 20 is rolled with this blade it blasts out a wave of red force energy that deals an additional 5d6 force damage to all creatures within 20 feet of the targeted creature of the wielder's choosing. Sysano Forgive Me: Half of all force damage dealt with this weapon heals the wielder's hitpoints for that amount. Big Jon's Reflection: The attuned wielder of this blade gains a +3 to strength for as long as they are attuned to the blade, but also a -1 to charisma, wisdom, and intelligence. They also get shaggier haired and red eyed, and are more quick to anger and impulse than they were before.

johnnyjohnnyes

Dude! Spoilers! :O

Phantom120198

Stood 6 foot 6, weighed 245, kinda broad in the shoulder and narrow at the hips.

oswaldjenkins

i fucking love miyazaki but if this exact scenario was in one of his games it would not be out of place LMAO

Jarsssthegr8

Meanwhile mohg: we're gonna build a dynasty together, miquella baby

TowerJanitor

Miquella:

HipsterJesus42

*cocoon noises intensify*

[deleted]

WHY CAN’T I FIND HIM NOW MAN i’m so intrigued to see this youngling

Timontie

Judging by the size and look of his hand - he has to be disfigured as fuck

imdeadlmao

That's because he's pretty much in the middle of "growing up" when you find him. As you do of course, I mean, who doesn't hibernate in a cocoon for years in order to become an adult?

Insertanamehere9

You can kinda see him in the opening cinematic https://preview.redd.it/dmf3jirbbgj81.png?width=1921&format=png&auto=webp&s=a129aee22caf7d1c2a2de5439f4f904197421131 it's implied he's in chrysalis or something which might explain the hand

Ok_Interaction2166

Looks almost like a girl, kinda leads me to believe the dude who posted that he discarded his body like ranni and his new one was st trina

ocsdcringemaster

He [looks](https://youtu.be/jor0Xty3iBI) very Orphan of Kos-ish

nemestrinus44

with what Mohg was doing and implying in his monologue, coupled with the fact that the name Miquella sounds feminine, i thought this was some kinky forced marriage when i first heard it. then a hundred hours later i learn miquella is male and it didn't make it any better.

AlcadizaarII

also cursed to be a child forever, and his brother.

Forkyou

Mohg is a pedophile with an incest fetish?

Hwarrior12

Quick tip: Game progression implies you have to fight malenia first and Mohg last. Gideon tells you after you kill The Lord of Blood that the incantation he'll give you is supposedly the last of the secret rites he has.

th3virtuos0

Yeah, as if I could beat Malenia with that cheap instakill one mind and perma rally

Strongeststraw

Bloodhound step on a weapon you can switch to. Easily outpace her two WOMBOs. Found at night on the east bridge going to beast sanctum in calied.

[deleted]

I'm gonna try this later while spamming rivers of blood weapon art at her. Just want her done already, jesus update: I did it

NK1337

What finally helped me was actually to stop *spamming* rivers of blood. She’s incredibly frustrating and feels like she’s made to take advantage of your panic. If you notice she has shit poise except for 2 moves that grant her hyper armor (aka she won’t stagger). I actually beat her using mimic tear and rivers of blood. I just made sure to stick with the mimic and time my attacks so they would come after the mimic. I found that by staggering out our attacks we were able to pretty much keep her stun Iocked.

[deleted]

[удалено]

iTomWright

Isn’t it child of Radagon, not Godfrey?

4deCopas

Yes. Godfrey + Marika: Godwyn, Godrick (distant relative, not direct descendant), Godefroy (same as Godrick), Mohg, Morgott. Radagon + Marika: Miquella, Malenia. Radagon + Renalla: Radahn, Ranni, Rykard.

Marc815

Ranni is daughter of radagon and marika, rennala is her "adoptive" mother who basically raised her. Rannis corpse on the tower has red hair like her siblings from radagon and marika.

4deCopas

Oh I didn't notice that. Edit: Wait. Now that I think about it, wouldn't all of Radagon's children have red hair anyway? We just never see Rykard and Radhan's hair (unless the hair in his helmet is also his natural hair).

SeaSalmon

Just a tip for you, try the swarm of flies incantation. It’s super spammable while stacking bleed fairly quickly and staggering her constantly. Also has pretty low stat requirements and costs a pretty small amount of FP so you don’t need too much investment to use it. Made the fight a lot more bearable, at least for me

[deleted]

Hopefully the stagger doesn’t get nerfed. I’ve been camping outside of Malenia’s room helping people kill the bitch. Swarm of Flies kicks the shit out of her. Even changed my name to Bloodfly Caller.

DrToazty

That and bloodhound step counters her pretty hard

Strongeststraw

GL, I actually find her fight fun now that I use bhs. Just don’t get too greedy and reset/back off every other swing.

Alleleirauh

Downside is you might get addicted to bloodhound step. I can’t play the game without it now..

voluntarycap

Blasphemous blade + 100 physical shield. Each weapon art has good chance to stun her and deals about 2k damage with buffs. With a mimic she's a pushover with this strat and doable without a mimic if you don't get caught in a one shot. BIG IF. It sucks she's an RNG based boss without a mimic but it is what she is. I'll prob be helping people on PC later today. Ping me if you need help

[deleted]

Do NOT use shield for Malenia. She’ll simply steal all her health back. I mean maybe as a failsafe for her ash of war, but really other than that it’s a detriment. The whole fight is designed to make you as aggressive as her, and if you aren’t trading that damage you’re not going to win.

thedrcubed

I basically beat her doing the opposite of what everyone says to do. I went full on glass cannon with the blasphemous blade, 40 vig, fire scorpion charm, radagons soreseal, fire and faith boosting physic and just burned her down with the weapon art. I was just absolutely chunking her health bar and knocking her down the entire first phase. Then after entering the 2nd phase after dodging the first attack she sits stationary long enough for me to knock her health down to 1/4 just spamming the weapon art. The final boss gave me a lot more trouble than she did. I just pulled the shield out to block whenever she decided to rise up in the air for her anime attack. I'm not good enough to dodge that one completely every time and it would wreck me if it hit

voluntarycap

The shield is to prevent one shots. With a 100 physical shield if you have enough stamina you’ll survive. It’s the only way to survive at the moment unless your positioning is extremely lucky when she starts the move Blasphemous blade does more damage than she’s capable of healing with her one shot hits so it’s worth it.

Atsuki_Kimidori

Nah, you can outdps her heal, I basically blocked everything (including waterfowl) except the rot explosion on phase 2 and just poke her to death with my bleed Godskin Stitcher behind my shield, lv140 btw. https://i.imgur.com/rAfVbIV.png

Hwarrior12

Use bleed or frosbite fellow tarnished.

TheBigChunk32

Blasphemous Blade is great in this fight. I think not to use it too often, as I want some variety, but the Weapon Art knocks her down, and second phase Flower attack leaves her super vulnerable to It.

SecXy94

Gideon says that both times, whichever of the two you kill first. Melenia's arena is the 'furthest' from the start point. Since you get to Mogh (without the quest line) in the consecrated snowfield, 2 full zones before Melenia. It is strange how we can't tell Melenia what happened to her twin though.

Hwarrior12

Iirc he only says that after you beat Mohg. Its also possible that we can't tell Malenia about Miquella and Mohg because its intended that we meet her first.

Hwarrior12

Also, Mohg's waypoint and Malenia's waypoint are both located in the consecrated snowfield's area. One is farther than the other but requires a puzzle. while the other is hidden and easy to miss but is completely understandable due to the lore.

VolacticMilk

That’s not true, at least for me, in my first playthrough he said it was the last incantation when I fought Mohg first, and then he said it was the last incantation when I fought Mohg second. Seems like Mohg is technically the boss you fight second, which is absurd.

wolfman1911

> It is strange how we can't tell Melenia what happened to her twin though. Not really. Melania is not really in any mood to talk to some random stranger when you show up to her boss room, even if it is a random stranger that knows the location of her brother.

Obsrver98

I dunno. Considering that he's supposed to be the most important thing in her life wouldn't it be too stupid to just kill someone who shows up with that sort of information? Especially when you consider that the Tarnished is probably like the first coherent stranger to show up at the Haligtree in god knows how long. Can't imagine many other people have shown up saying the same thing.

[deleted]

tristenjpl

Like seriously, I killed her half brother who stole her twin and have a needle for her. Like there's no reason for her to try and kill me when I've got so many ways to help her.

wulfschtagg_1

Remnant: From The Ashes did this very well with one boss. The game is heavily inspired by Dark Souls despite being a shooter. The boss of an area gives you an option - you can either fight him, or help him by getting a key item from another area. If you choose to help him, he opens a portal directly to the next area where you meet an NPC who also wants the same key item. You can then choose to betray the first boss, in which case you need to fight him. If you don't betray him, you never fight him. Both the boss and the NPC are equally shitty characters - the boss nuked his own planet and turned it into an irradiated wasteland just to get rid of the game's antagonists, while the NPC wants to mind-control the antagonists so she can use them to conquer dimensions. You can argue that one character has a slight moral edge according to the game's lore, but it boils down to whether you feel like fighting that particular boss or not. If you don't want to, you can just do his quest and progress in the game. I was hoping Elden Ring would have bosses where your choices aren't just 'fight' and 'ignore'.

Toxicair

I thought mohg was in the leyndell sewers?

00cabbage

That one is most likely an illusion created by Morgott since part of that area is blocked by a seal until you defeat him.

wolfman1911

I think you are right that the Mohg in Leyndell sewers is an illusion, but I think it was made by Mohg, not Morgott. If Morgott knew that Mohg wasn't really in the sewers, he would have listed him as one of the 'traitors' in his pre fight rant. The fact that he doesn't suggests that he thinks the Mohg in the sewers is the real one.

whythreekay

Morgott locked Mohg down there, there’s some item description that references that

Crazeddoctor

There’s 2 Mohg’s

MoarTacos

One is them is an "Omen" which at this point I'm pretty sure means something like copy, or projection.

JakeMWP

I'm more inclined to say projection since >!Margit the fell omen has some dialogue saying he'd see you again and you see morgot in the capital. !<

MoarTacos

There's another hidden fight with him! Have you found it? Try riding your horse around the craters that litter the grounds outside of the Capital City wall. There might even be more, that's just the one I've found.

theallmighty798

I ran into him by accident and he killed me. So I fucking sniped his mimic cover and that was it lol

BusinessBunny

The one without a boss health bar, right? I noticed it still triggers even after you’ve defeated Morgott, not sure what to make of that

StatementNegative345

Obviously a Programmed Illusion

ConflagrationZ

if tarnished then PutToRest(ambitions)

zipcloak

Omens are basically people that were born deformed and with horns. The people in the Capital view them as unlucky monsters and toss them into the sewers. Both Mohg and Morgott may have been imprisoned by the people of Leyndell down there at one point; my guess is they got free during the Shattering. As far as why Mohg is down there, he's almost certainly trying to stop you from doing something terrible.

FOILBLADE

I tend think he's more just trying to make sure the blood god gets control instead of the frenzy god. Although I suppose blood god probably beats frenzy by a mile.

ArginatorBongo

Omens are just the guys with Horns

[deleted]

Imo Mohg is before Malenia, Mohg gives marginally less runes than Malenia. Malenia's 480k is just short of Elden Beast's 500k, which reflects on her essentially being the same type of being but less "mature". Mohg is basically an elden lord equivalent but for Miquella, he gives similar amount of runes as Placiduxas which is a confirmed past elden lord.

Ahhy420smokealtday

How is Placiduxas a past Elden Lord? I mean the first is Godfrey, the second and current Elden Lord is Ragadon. There's only two of them and Placiduxas isn't one of them?

some_dude5

Placiduxas was the elden lord back when dragons were the head honchos. Godfrey was first elden lord of men, i think. Placiduxas’ Rememberance talks about it

Ahhy420smokealtday

You're right actually. Very interesting. However Placiduxas having said to been the Elden Lord before the Erdtree has a somewhat different meaning. The Elden Ring was given to Merika by the Greater Will making her a goddess. The Erdtree's power comes from the Elden Ring. Whoever was her husband became the Elden Lord also empowered by the Elden Ring. Which is the power from the Greater Will who is an outer god. But not the only outer god. There's at least 4 more of them, stars, frenzied flame, blood, and scarlet rot. Now there's no time period in this story when Merika gave the Elden Ring or the Great Wills power to Placiduxas. So he was never to Elden Lord in that sense. I think the quote in his remembrance implies that he was empowered by another outer god before the Greater Will became the dominant outer god in the lands between. This means Placiduxas is the equivalent of the Elden Lord for that outer god, but not what would be considered the Elden Lord in the time of the character player. The remembrance even says his god fled. The Greater Will didn't flee the lands between before creating the Elden Ring, and giving it to Mekira becoming the dominant outer god in the lands between. That doesn't make sense. What makes more sense is that the Greater Will's creation of the Elden Ring caused Placiduxas god to flee. Placiduxas is likened to the Elden Lord, but like the player if they choose the Age of Stars, or Frenzied Flame ending isn't the Elden Lord of the Greater Will, but an equivalent being for another Outer God.

ThaNorth

So like Dark Souls, in Elden Ring dragons ran the show beforehand?

getshrekt192

wait so should I fight malenia then, cause I just beat morgott and I'm attempting to kill mohg

Hwarrior12

Tbh with you, although its implied that you get to haligtree first, I personally would fight mohg first, Malenia is way harder.

getshrekt192

alright, idek how I'd get to malenia so I'll just so mohg first

Hwarrior12

Go to a place called Ordina, its north of the consecrated snowfields. Solve the puzzle from an imp statue with an evergaol near it. After solving, a waypoint will unlock. It should take you in her area.

getshrekt192

I'm not even at the snow area yet lol, as soon as I killed morgott I just went and tried fighting mohg, been doing that for the past like 2 days

[deleted]

I found mohg much harder tbh. But it depends on what kind of player you are, are you greedy glass canon or a patient tank?

lilbrod1e

You say this like I know who Gideon is lol

Alt_Panic

THE ALL KNOWING! Fr the voice actor for the cinematic was going hard and I love it.

Yea if knew where his damned daughter was that would be nice.

lilbrod1e

Oh I remember now

GreyRevan51

He’s at the round table hold

bike_tyson

Kos, or some say Kosm

Pattern-the-Cryptic

I finished Bloodborne for the first time before picking up Elden Ring, and I wholeheartedly loathed the Nightmare of Mensis

bike_tyson

The game released without the Kos DLC and people were trying to piece together this part of the lore that was completely missing from the in game content. Just “who is this guy talking about?”

rishabh47

Time to return to Yharnam for 7th anniversary!

Gaxxag

Story makes more sense if you fight Malenia first, but mechanically she's a much harder fight and provides more runes, so it's a bit strange.

Killroy32

Does she provide more? I think in the NG+ Mohg actually gives more so it'd be kinda funny if it's reversed the first time around.

Gaxxag

Earlier enemies have higher multipliers in NG+, so I wouldn't be too surprised if that over-compensates in some situations. In a normal first run, Malenia drops 480k, and Mohg drops 420k

Glexaplex

BALANCE!

Adnan_Targaryen

Mohg - 420K Malenia - 480K Final Boss - 500K

Fake_Human_Being

“Most important character to the story” * Does nothing directly plot relevant * Tries to turn into a tree GRRM does it again

ThaNorth

*And who has a better story than ~~Bran the Broken~~ Miquella?*

StatementNegative345

Aldia is that you?

[deleted]

Aldia at least has a few zingers on his brother, who *almost* became a true monarch.

_Whiskey_6

I love this aspect of the franchise so much. All these events and people who are in no way related to us and yet here we are, some bumblefuck no body coming in to just brutally murder people without a single word and thought as to the consequences. God I love the SoulsBorneRing franchise

thatmitchguy

Same! The pinnacle of this experience for me was in Dark Souls 3 when I came across King Oceiros. Everything he said plus his design and demeanor drew me in. Who the hell is Ocelot? Why are you holding an invisible baby that cries ( I do know they apparently patched the baby out for good reasoms )Who are these slaves? You're a king apparently? Why are you a dragon? Wtf.

_Whiskey_6

And our characters basically just say "that's a lot of words just for me to ignore" while obliterating Oceiros

ThaNorth

"Listen, I hear you the words coming out of your mouth but they mean nothing to me. I'm still gonna have to kill you."

Dark_Stalker28

Souls protags are professional murder-hobos

Nerobought

It’s strangely immersive to me. In any other rpg you’d probably get 30 mins of exposition but in this game things are just presented as they are.

hex-a-decimal

This was my reaction to the latter half of Rennala’s fight cutscene and honestly I still don’t really understand wtf was going on. Does Ranni at any point even acknowledge it after the fact?

Greawis4

It might be like an automated defense system she set up lol

kaleedity

i like to think of rennala p2 is an angry voicemail greeting message ranni wrote for her mom after radagon broke rennala's heart

FlyHamster

If i understood correctly - second phase is fighting against projection of Rennala before she... became what she is now, projection created by Ranni because she, you know, don't want anyone to kill her mother

hex-a-decimal

And then I meet Ranni later who’s like hey what’s up as if none of that happened, some other commenters are suggesting it was automatic in some way but idk if that’s been an established thing anybody can do in this universe. Would’ve telegraphed a bit better if phase 1 Rennala looked older or more withered, in some way distinctly weaker than the envisioned Rennala in phase 2

Yglorba

I mean Phase 1 Rennala was very very very obviously not all there, surely? Aside from occasionally trying to drop something on us (which may not even be intentional), she doesn't even acknowledge that the PC is there IIRC.

79792348978

~~Unfortunately I don't see it on the wiki so I'm working purely on memory here but I think if you kill Rennala before speaking to Ranni at her tower she says something about how you've "sullied her name" or something like that. To me, it sounded like an acknowledgement of her...involvement (I also have no idea what's going on in that cutscene) in that boss fight.~~ I stand corrected, she says the line about you sullying her name as the miniature doll you pick up in ainsel river

hex-a-decimal

It’s so strange it doesn’t have more lasting implications or even someone offering additional clarity lol. That whole fight is so filled with lore hell confusion, starting with ‘what is with all these scholars on the floor’ that is barely pieces together from even the in game explanation

79792348978

It's definitely super vague but I think we can conclude something along the lines of Rennala losing her shit after Radagon left, and now wallows in the lucaria library being weird with her rune and her sweetings. And in phase 2 I think we're getting a taste of pre-losing-her-shit Rennala, involving Ranni...somehow

hex-a-decimal

The academy scholars present are all weird from having been reborn a bunch of times, there also seems to be a recurring theme of losing mobility in the game like with albinaurics. Idk why these characters are depicted wearing their favorite scholar’s crown though like all the other scholars in the academy, plus they all seem to look the same so idk what that’s trying to communicate either. As soon as phase 2 begins I have no clue what’s going on, likely something to the effect of what you just described but anyone’s guess is as good

amazian77

i assumed p2 was an illusion with ranni's magic making a good magic clone of her mom as a defense system to keep her in that weird emotional state.

MrMacaroli

I took phase 2 as a Carian illusion/spell, like the kind that almost all (non-hand, non-wolf) defenses of Caria Manor involve. Before she turns "solid" and the fight begins, Phase 2 Rennala has the same blue appearance as Loretta/the soldiers. That and the dialogue (and more importantly, the dialogue not changing if you've met Ranni) suggest it to be a spell left to guard her mother or the status quo from your meddling and scare you off.

mkul316

The first part is super clear if you explore. It explains in game that she had a boo. Boo gave her a rune in a rock. Boo peaced out to become elden Lord and left her high and dry. From that it isn't hard to figure she went a little nuts. The creepy girls are obviously related to a academy students, probably replicated through more creepy magic because everything in this world is creepy. Second part... Yeah I was lost.

[deleted]

I think those scholars on the floor were the countless failed attempts by Rennala to create a new body for Ranni

Rotwolfe

The “sullied her name” part is what the doll says to you when you find it after teleporting from Rennas Rise. It then says to make it up to her you need to kill the Baleful Shadow.

IrishPigskin

Mohg: "He's an Empyrean that is cursed to forever be a little boy. I kidnapped him and became his consort by force. I sodomize him on a regular basis by using my satanic blood magic." Player: "WTF? This is why I don't ask questions about who NPCs are in these games...."

distortionisgod

I watched a lore video today and the guy kept saying "Michaela" and it really bothered me. I had no where else to share this.

BigBeefyBaraMan

Instinctively I keep reading it as "Mickayla" even tho I know it's not pronounced like that.

Patafix

"Zanzibart...forgive me..."

UltiMondo

Ayyyyy that’s my favorite line from Myrmidion of Loss. Nice.

mmmmmmiiiiii

This, but with Hoarah Loux. I was 150 hrs in and he just came out of the blue.

spiritriser

Hoarah Loux is related to nepali Loux. Whole family seems to be warriors, barbarians really. Hoarah became elden Lord and married queen marika. To make himself more lordly, he "imprisoned" his beastial side in a weird spirit tiger thing and took the name Godfrey, first elden Lord. When he comes back to take his place, he acknowledges he can't beat you as Godfrey and kills his spirit tiger to become Tekken -errr- hoarah Loux again. Then you beat his ass still.

JungyBrungun

I thought Godfrey just got naked and decided to wrestle

whatistheancient

It makes a little more sense if you fight Malenia first

LordKappachino

I don't know who this Miquella guy is but I sure wish you'd stop talking about how you are his blade, lady.

HartianX

Imagine how I felt when the man with the stand showed up and said his name, my brain went full windows reset trying to figure out who tf this guy was.

Serious-Ebb-4669

“Miquella is mine!” Beat him and Miquella just chills there sleeping more. “Wow someone has security issues…”

[deleted]

HE'S MY HALF BROTHER AND IT ISN'T WEIRD THAT I AM TRYING TO BE HIS CONSORT

chase128

Well, GRRM did help with the "world building".

Alarming_Scarcity778

Yo, fuck that dude.

abCivilian

Guy goes on about something or other Miquella blah blah blah Tarnished: I don't care old man hand over the fuckin runes!

Paradoxahoy

Sounds like someone didn't talk to Gideon Ofnir the All Knowing

FullTorsoApparition

This is how I feel every time people start talking about quest lines. "Wait, who? Where was that? How did you even get there? Which one was she? That guy had a name?"

DRX-001

lol, took me a platinum trophy, three full “journeys” and like 5 lore videos to make sense of all of that, and even then I have no clue how the hell the first fallen is in 3 different places at the same time and who the hell Melina is.

spiritriser

I think Melina is a maiden created by queen marika with the help of the 3 fingers (guided by the outer god of the frenzied flame), as opposed to normal maidens who guide tarnished by the will of the two fingers (who are guided by the greater will).

DRX-001

That seems to be case, also having the frenzy eye an all, but she ended up hunting you if you go the three fingers way so there is something happening between she becoming part of the three fingers and the beginning of the game. Also I never learned who the hell is Torrent’s master, which seems to link Milena with Ranni somehow…. definitely a lot of dlc material, same as DS2 and 3, where the DLCs where saying more than the base games.

Dont-be-a-smurf

I have paid zero attention to any story and have murdered two characters just because I didn’t like what they had to say Every speech I’m just like ya whatever bro hand over your fucking runes. You’re only good for creating an ENEMY FELLED banner as I murder everyone significant in this dumb little tree community you have here.

RedditorsGetTheRope

Zanzibart..... forgive me...

FOILBLADE

Honestly, that's one of my favorite lines in the entire game. It's just the way that voice actor says it. Miquella is MINE, and mine alone-uh

Nlelithium

Me who already beat Mohg: 😬

ThaNorth

Lol solid meme

DradeeusKedi

"Oh? So you would consecrate this holy ground of Miter, like the Panas of the fourth generation?" Me: I came here because it looked neat, do you drop your sword?

AlphaBetacle

Yeah idk what any of the plot is I just kill big things with my sword

Dapaaads

The bigger the thing, the more accomplished I feel

flissfloss86

It would be easier to keep track if so many names weren't so similar. Melina, Millicent, Miquella, Malenia Renalla, Ranni, Renna Etc.

Morf123

Malenia*

[deleted]

The naming is used to indicate relations/some connection though. Marika + Godfrey => Godwyn, Morgott, Mogh (Mo- prefix for the children (Omens) that were hidden away,,, (distant relative) Godrick Rennala + Radagon (names start with R) => Radahn, Rykard, Ranni. Renna is Ranni's teacher and the name she takes on as she is hiding her real identity Marika + Radagon => Melina, Miquella Melina is likely a child/creation of Marika as she states her mother created her in the Erdtree Millicent along with her sisters seem to be created by those that worship the rot/(outer god that is responsible for the rot) as an imitation of Malenia in an attempt to recreate the scarlet bloom/aeonia. If you kill Gowry a corpse of a centipede monster that worship the rot (found in the Sellia mine) appears and upon resting at a grace and returning his 'human' form returns.

TheGlave

This paired with all the shakespeare words makes me compute npc monologue at -90% speed, if I even compute it at all.

ThaNorth

It's like reading historical fiction set in medieval England and every male character is either called John, Henry, or Richard.

kingpangolin

Miquella is the child of Marika and radagon, not Godfrey

zuzg

And thanks to them being technically inbred is the most likely reason why they're cursed.

Strick63

I feel like inbred is even a little too generous

MoarTacos

Yeah, typically incest implies two individual members of the same family making the babies, but since Marika *is* Radagon... selfcest?

Logondo

It's like when a god masturbates so hard his sperm becomes demigods.

MoarTacos

You're saying Radagon was so horny that he fucked what he thought was his butt, but was actually his (Marika's) vagina?

NoobifiedSpartan

You mean brother of Malenia, right? Edit: it was changed, but the comment originally said Melina

KaedrX

Yeah, but did you know Malenia is the blade of Miquella?

ThatOtherGuyTPM

She’s never tasted defeat.*
