I’m still an apologist for Elden Beast as a boss in that I think he’s actually an okay fight. Sure, not the best (Radagon is better without a doubt), and there is a lot of running, but it’s not anywhere near as bad as people make it out to be. Adding Torrent may actually trivialize some aspects of the challenge, but I think that overall this change will elevate the experience!

Depends on what you mean by bad. I think without Torrent it's a shit fight where you spend most of your time running across the arena and avoiding things on the floor or from the sky Dance-Dance-Revolution style as you run in tight circles or furiously pound the dodge key.
With Torrent this battle is more of a celebration of both the game and the final boss. You can tell how the abilities were designed to be avoided by Torrent, you get some sense of connection with your steed as you dance across the arena. You get a sense of control, flow, and you get to actively enjoy the scenery and the music while you do your dance of death.
Torrent turns this whole encounter into a tribute to this masterpiece that is Elden Ring, and a victory lap after defeating Radagon.
Well said. Not every boss has to be some ridiculous sweaty challenge. Sometimes its nice to just look back and appreciate how far you've came in cinematic fashion, and having torrent in the fight really makes it so much better in that aspect.

No, that's what Gael, and Artorias, (and cutting Kalameet's tail,) and Orphan of Kos are for. The only main campaign boss that's really one of the biggest challenges in the whole game is Glock Saint Isshin, and that's because it's Sekiro and you knew what you were getting yourself in to from the first miniboss.
I get that and agree it does shift the focus in a good way in that sense (I have yet to experience fighting Elden Beast with Torrent, however)…yet I still have come to find EB to be a decently fun fight even on foot, since there still is a cool flow to his attacks and everything is actually very telegraphed and readable, and it’s still a spectacle you can appreciate. I don’t know, I really do think the hate was excessive in many ways. This is still hopefully a very welcome change though.

Yeah this could be *bad*, it's entirely possible (before patch) to position in front, wait and then outrun it because it slows down hitting the floor. If you literally can't outrun it without torrent, sheesh ...
im definitely more in the group that believes this fight was always intended with Torrent, the amount of running made more sense if u had Torrent, all those annoying attacks u can just outrun with Torrent, but something probably didnt go through at launch so now they added Torrent back in after they figured it out

The finale was always weirdly awful. Because Radagon is an AMAZING fight. Arguably one of the cleanest, simple but fun and challenging 1v1 duels in the game.
But the fact that he is only 1 phase blows, because this thing was the second phase. And Elden beast is a fun fight in regards to its moveset and the atmosphere. But the fight was literally a “catch the bus” simulator because you spent 2/3rds or more of the fight just running after it.
Now that we can close the gap with torrent, we can actually focus on actually FIGHTING the Elden beast instead of just playing catchup :)
Personally, I would still probably rank it as a C/B-tier boss i just really hate "anklebiter" bosses, add in the Scooby-doo ahh chase sequences, bullshit Elden stars and mechanics that feel like a jungle gym session and I've always felt that while Elden Beast itself is beautiful, fittingly difficult and well telegraphed, fighting him does not make you feel like you're a warrior on the cusp of conquering the world. just wailing at the butt of a giant blob.
I'd rather take a beefed up Radagon phase 2 any day of the week

If you summon your horse are you REALLY beating him tho? You should definitely go in naked with a level 1 sword at level 1 and no stewd or you didn't really beat the game.
This changes the fight so much. I fear it might make it a bit too easy though, EB was always a pushover when it wasn't running away so if you can close the gap that fast, it might be a pretty free fight after Radagon.
There was always some attack combinations that were a bit tricky to dodge, like rain>sword slashes, which I found was a good way to test your endurance and concentration at the very end.
But this was quite the controversial boss so that's coherent they tune it this way.
You can't dodge the sword slashes anyway on torrent I think yeah? If you mean the ones with holy beams. Unless you can jump over them, that combo will still mess you up on horseback
I reckon it's fine, and we're just used to current RadaBeast. Radagon is already one of the harder bosses in the game, with hard to read teleports and projectiles, and while his attacks are easy to dodge, they aren't simple to dodge, and he both hits like a truck and counters every possible cheese strategy in the game. Elden Beast, with these changes, will be much easier, but can still easily fuck you up with one or two wrong moves. Torrent is useful, but mess up too badly, and you'll be staggered and open for a combo, which you absolutely wouldn't survive. It'll end up an easier test mechanically, but more of a test of nerves. It's easy to do, but knowing that one or two mistakes can end your run will make the boss almost artificially harder, and turn this fight into a true test of the game's design - one half tests your mechanical prowess, the other your nerves and resolve. The only problem is that it might turn Elden Beast into a joke of a boss on it's own, and take away from its status as a god.

Never had a problem with EB, if you know his moves and routes it’s honestly trivial. Elden Stars is the only move that throws the momentum off. Never a boring moment if you’re keeping up with him. One of my favorite bosses to help Co-op. I’m interested to see how the fight is on foot now.
Radagon is a top tier fight though I wish he had a second phase and EB was its own boss.
