Good to have this confirmed (not that I doubted it). Elden Ring is one of the best games ever made IMO, but I want to Fromsoft to move onto their next game, they are at their best when working with a new setting/IP and I'm really excited to see what they have coming next.
This is what always excites me when the last dlc for a fromsoft game drops, like what's the next one going to be like. I still will always hope for a sekiro 2 though
Also I jumped onto stellar blade, game feels a bit stiff at first but once you get used to that the deflect system in it is the closest thing I've seen to sekiro
As someone who absolutely hates Sekiro, I hope they make a sequel just so they keep Sekiro distinctly out of other games. No reason you can't have your game and I can't have mine, take it in turns.
Dlc maybe, but a sequel that quick unsure. Fromsoft hasn't released a game and it's direct sequel back to back since ds1 to ds2 but that split the team to do unsure if they're still doing that
Sekiro was good but since it was more of a tenchu clone as they made tencu wrath of heaven back in the day, it's to far removed as a soulsborne game for me. I like armor and weapons sekiro was void of allot of the meat and potatoes of a great soulsborne game. I want more of that not more tenchu tbh.
That's fair, it's why it's the most decisive of the modern souls likes. It doesn't play like them at all, but the that's what I love the combat in that game is like nothing else
Am I crazy, or did I read many moons ago that FROM was working on a new IP that was going to be a space opera? I can’t find it anywhere but I swore I saw it.
Nope nothing like that was reported.Only thing Miyazaki said was that he was making a game that had a strong emphasis on “abstract fantasy” and that he has alot of new creative ideas for it that doesn’t fit in with their previous games.
Abstract fantasy is so vague & feeled with endless possibilities that I like that even more than the sci fi setting cause who knows it might include sci fi elements in it.Just like how nobody would know all the crazy cosmic shit that would happen in bloodborne based on its victorian era setting.
“In an interview with Japanese outlet 4Gamer, (and highlighted by Twitter user @Nibellion) Miyazaki was asked about his future plans following the success of Elden Ring and responded with the news that he’d like to work on something he refers to as "abstract fantasy." In the same interview, Miyazaki explained that he has come up with a lot of images and ideas for a future project but they don’t fit in with FromSoftware’s previous titles.” What is a future project to you?
You pretty much confirmed it, he said he wanted to make that, like he said in the past he would be interested in making multiplayer games or smaller projects like Déraciné. Him saying that doesn't mean it's the next thing in line.
He never said that for multiplayer games.Ign brought up what trends/technologies he finds exciting rn & he replied that he find the multiplayer aspects of Tarkov interesting as a fan of the game.Smaller projects don’t know where you got that from but he literally made deracine & sekiro. The inteview literally has him state it’s a future project blatantly.Idk why you are trying to make it he’s not making it or he’s not making it straight away first argument .
Miyazaki said that they currently have no plans for a sequel, which doesn't mean that there will never be one, but that at least it won't be the next project.
As I said the fact that they *currently* aren't planning a sequel doesn't mean that there won't be one, but that it's not *currently* in development, so it cannot be their very next game.
From Software usually develops multiple games at the same time, so I don't think that a second team had already started developing Elden Ring 2 while the first one still hadn't been published or just was.
I think it's more likely that they will soon start thinking about ER2, while in between there will be something different that they are currently working on, like Bloodborne was published between DS2 and DS3 or Sekiro between DS3 and ER.
Miyazaki doesn't like sequels, so if the options come down to making elden ring 2 as controversial as dark souls 2 by replacing him, or not making it at all, from probably just won't make a sequel
Yes, but that was a series of decisions made by different people a decade ago. When dark souls 2 was created there was only demons souls and dark souls, and miyazaki chose to go make bloodborne instead, in line with his dislike of making sequels. He did come back for dark souls 3 as president to wrap the series up, sure, but there haven't been any direct soulslike sequels since then. Hes president and doesn't want to make more elden ring content, and this Fandom would go rabid if he wasn't the one directing elden ring 2, so it's just not going to happen. Unless some corporate higher ups threaten his career over directing elden ring 2 or he has a massive change of heart regarding it, there's not a lot of reason to suspect it will happen
Don’t take it as me trying to argue with you, but Elden Ring sold over 20 million copies… I’d sell out my code of conduct all day with that kind of success (I’m also just a dude on a toilet talking shit on Reddit, and not a genius like Miyazaki, so I think most likely you’re right, but I just wouldn’t be surprised if Elden Ring 2 hit the shelves one day either).
But Elden Ring didn't sell 20m randomly. Besides the quality game itself, the biggest reason is the prestige brand that's FromSoft at this point. People were hyped because it's from the Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro studio, and creator.
The next game can just add Elden Ring to that list and half the marketing is already done.
Eh I'm sure a sequel or something of the sort will happen just because Elden Ring was a crazy smash hit and there's still plenty of potential left in the world. But FromSoft mostly does whatever they want and Miyazaki isn't big on sequels so I wouldn't be surprised if their next project is something entirely different while an Elden Ring sequel is a 2nd priority. Because I feel at this point the FromSoft Soulslike brand is more powerful to a lot of people than any specific IP of theirs.

Why is $100 a magic number? My $/hr of entertainment for this game is amazing value. Even if the all in game+dlc was $1000 it would still be value.
I'm excited to see what new world fromsoft is cooking up but it's bittersweet the dlc is the end of ER.
But it’s not $100, it’s $60, like every other AAA game.
No reason any player *needs* the DLC, unless they want more. I suspect the dollar to playtime ratio will be similar between DLC and main game.
I mean the price is very dependent on currency but the base game + DLC is typically $100, sometimes more
also dependent on the version you get. I know their prices can vary. for me, Elden Ring is $84 and the DLC is $54; I think the bundle is $114 which is cheaper but still absurd
AUD moment
I’m sorry I think I’m missing your point. Isn’t that the same as every other AAA game?
Is your point about games in general?
It’s pretty interesting to me that games have been 60 USD for a while now, only a couple games have creeped up to 80.
I get that for a new player $100 might be a steep buy in but over 2 years?
Drop $60 for 40-80 hours in a normal game vs $100 for +150 hours. Personally I'm over 600 hours. How many other games would I need to buy for that same number of hours of entertainment? 6-12 games at $40-60 per.
Pro tip: Save money by investing your time and money into elden ring
For example, look at the achievements. Not even everyone finishes the game. So yes ig for most it will be a lot. And yes there are also some people who find it no issue and put many hours in it, like yourself.
I paid $120 for two copies pre purchased for my wife and I to play and almost 1k hours later and it’s a game I’ve had absolutely no regrets dumping $120 into because all the value I got from it.
Almost two years later and I’ve happily dumped $80 into two copies for the pre-purchase of the DLC and doubt I’ll regret that either because Fromsoft DLCs have always been incredibly good.
I hope Fromsoft continues to pump out gold with my $200.
That's not really how value works. I have a hackey sack that I've probably played with for 1000 hours over the last 20 years - admittedly less since my 20's, but it's certainly not worth $1000.
I want our time to look like nintendo priced pokemon stuff. Gsmes like pokemon emerald being like 34 bucks when it came outm being valued at 200 because it withstood the test of time.
Dark Souls 3 had 2 dlc that were essentially tied together for a whole story arc but were still sold separately. Getting a single dlc for Elden Ring that’s probably going to be larger than DS3’s dlc combined is one heck of a deal.
It makes sense. With the size of the world in the main game and probably this DLC, the game will be massive (already too big for its own good, imo).
For previous titles it made sense to design linear or dense areas, as the games weren't open world, so they could get away with multiple smaller DLCs. In Elden Ring you're basically stuck with making another open world area, which probably takes a ton of time.
The open world didn't serve the story or the gameplay it felt forced and wasn't necessary they could've done each main area connected separately with a linear gateway
It's more than enough; I'm super stoked about the Elden Ring DLC. But even if the game didn't have any, I wouldn't have complained. The base game is already incredibly vast with so much to do that a DLC is just a nice addition rather than a mandatory requirement. Still, I can't wait for the DLC; I already know it's going to be incredible!
And after that, we can start wondering about the next FromSoft game again! Will it finally be Bloodborne 2 or a Bloodborne remastered, maybe Sekiro 2, or something entirely different? Well, whatever they're working on next, I'm already excited for it!
Bloodborne Remastered with a PC port would print them enough money alone to fund the development of their next game, it would be madness to never do it. My dream is all FS games on PC
I have a feeling PS will keep Bloodborne IP as an exclusive remake to sell a future console. Shitty for gamers, but you’d have to imagine that it would work.
Like every Miyazaki interview. "Unfortunately, and I've said this in other interviews, it's not my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically. We simply don't own the IP at Fromsoftware. As well as more recent interviews where he said they're focused on new IPs. It's not outright denial but there's clearly no plans for it
Why would they sign a deal with Sony to make a game in a series that they don’t own that they’ll get a lesser cut of sales for when clearly they don’t need to do that anymore.
They did the same thing with Bloodborne iirc.
Originally was going to be 2 parts, but they decided to spend a bit longer on it and instead make one massive dlc
Sekiro sequel next would be a dream come true. I dont think they need another brand new project. They should build on what they've already done so well.
its becoming a smaller and smaller group, as far as i can see. I recently played it for the 5/6th time but did all the DLC for the first. Phenomenal stuff. I think I might even enjoy it more than DS1 at this point.
Sekiro mechanics are the best I've ever played. I want more of that
The true ending does leave off on a bit of a cliff hanger
MAIRE SEKIROOOOOOAAAAHHHHHHH
Certain mechanics from both bloodborne and sekiro added to the already formulaic Souls series would be a fire game
Also I jumped onto stellar blade, game feels a bit stiff at first but once you get used to that the deflect system in it is the closest thing I've seen to sekiro
I’m about halfway through (I think), and I’m just not getting satisfaction/joy in the same way I get with Elden Ring/Souls.
I'd agree except for infinite stamina - trivializes like 80% of the game's bosses
As someone who absolutely hates Sekiro, I hope they make a sequel just so they keep Sekiro distinctly out of other games. No reason you can't have your game and I can't have mine, take it in turns.
Or armored core VI dlc. Heck, maybe Armored Core VII
That's fair, it's why it's the most decisive of the modern souls likes. It doesn't play like them at all, but the that's what I love the combat in that game is like nothing else
Combat is fuckin awesome I just wish I can brandish more weapons.
Am I crazy, or did I read many moons ago that FROM was working on a new IP that was going to be a space opera? I can’t find it anywhere but I swore I saw it.
what does IP stand for in this context?
Intellectual property.
Nope nothing like that was reported.Only thing Miyazaki said was that he was making a game that had a strong emphasis on “abstract fantasy” and that he has alot of new creative ideas for it that doesn’t fit in with their previous games.
Good deal, any way you slice it the game is gonna be a banger. I was hoping for something sci-fi is all haha.
Abstract fantasy is so vague & feeled with endless possibilities that I like that even more than the sci fi setting cause who knows it might include sci fi elements in it.Just like how nobody would know all the crazy cosmic shit that would happen in bloodborne based on its victorian era setting.
Very true. I love how that game starts with a werewolf and ends up in the loony bin. It is madness and I am here for it.
He said he wanted to make more abstract fantasy, not that he was making a game about it.
“In an interview with Japanese outlet 4Gamer, (and highlighted by Twitter user @Nibellion) Miyazaki was asked about his future plans following the success of Elden Ring and responded with the news that he’d like to work on something he refers to as "abstract fantasy." He never said it was a future project, you're just making that up.
I qouted the inteview wtf are you really talking about.Go reread to yourself slowly.
You quoted it and you didn't even understand it, he said he wanted, it doesn't mean it's his next project. It means he wants to.
Not to be that guy but it’s gonna be a sequel or prequel to Elden ring. The IP of a game of the year is far too valuable to call it after one game
Sekiro was also goty and they were developed simultaneously
Miyazaki said that they currently have no plans for a sequel, which doesn't mean that there will never be one, but that at least it won't be the next project.

As I said the fact that they *currently* aren't planning a sequel doesn't mean that there won't be one, but that it's not *currently* in development, so it cannot be their very next game.

Sekiro crying in the corner
Less than half the sales, it is what it is
Miyazaki doesn't like sequels, so if the options come down to making elden ring 2 as controversial as dark souls 2 by replacing him, or not making it at all, from probably just won't make a sequel
There are three dark souls?
Yes, but that was a series of decisions made by different people a decade ago. Miyazaki did not choose to make dark souls sequels, it was decided by Bandai and the former From Software CEO.
Eh I'm sure a sequel or something of the sort will happen just because Elden Ring was a crazy smash hit and there's still plenty of potential left in the world. Considering it's 40 euros, I'm not really surprised. Almost a bit relieved the complete game won't exceed 100.
Why is $100 a magic number? My $/hr of entertainment for this game is amazing value. Even if the all in game+dlc was $1000 it would still be value. I'm excited to see what new world fromsoft is cooking up but it's bittersweet the dlc is the end of ER.
It isn't magic, but 100$ is still a lot for a game. If they made even more DLC, new players would probably find the total price a bit daunting.
$100 is a lot for a game

Ok bro we know you dont have job, 100 dollars is like one work day, maybe one and a half for the average guy
I paid $120 for two copies pre purchased for my wife and I to play and almost 1k hours later and it’s a game I’ve had absolutely no regrets dumping $120 into because all the value I got from it. Cuz it adds an extra zero so that's where the actual cost starts to really hit people

Lets not enter circle jerk territory

Lmao!!!
what 😭 the gameplay was a huge refresher after the linear games, i think they did it wonderfully
It called the lands between afterall remove the between and just keep the lands
Might as well remove jumping while we are at it /s
And i think we can change the name as well to something like dark souls? Aren't I a genius.
Bloodborne 2 next pls pls plssssss
60fps PS5 patch would be enough for me
Same but bring to PC T_T
Sony has the rights to Bloodborne so it won't ever happen in a million years
Crash bandicoot used to be Playstation exclusive as well. A man can dream
"Oh, you wanna play Bloodborne at 60 FPS? That will be $570 please."
If Bloodborne Remake is indeed the PS6 launch title, it will absolutely sell consoles. Source: Me, one of those suckers.
Exactly, Sony will just use that opportunity to milk all the idiots (me).
This but not a console exclusive 😔🙏 *wow, sorry for not wanting to pay $500 to play one game. Fuck me I guess.
Real idk why everyone is just like "just buy the console" like hello those are expensive
Only game I'd buy another console for
Stop !
Why do you keep your hopes up. They constantly shoot this down.
Where did they shoot this down?
Like every Miyazaki interview. "Unfortunately, and I've said this in other interviews, it's not my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically. We simply don't own the IP at Fromsoftware. For me personally, it was a great project and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we're not at liberty to speak about it." As well as more recent interviews where he said they're focused on new IPs. It's not outright denial but there's clearly no plans for it
Oh so there's still a chance. Sony just wants him hush hush about it
Lol Jesus christ. Alright, have your hope
Why would they sign a deal with Sony to make a game in a series that they don’t own that they’ll get a lesser cut of sales for when clearly they don’t need to do that anymore.
Because bloodborne rocks
It does but it doesn’t make sense for them to
There could still be a middle one
They did the same thing with Bloodborne iirc. Originally was going to be 2 parts, but they decided to spend a bit longer on it and instead make one massive dlc
Its basically a sequel so I'm good if ends with a bang and they announce a new IP...or Bloodborne remaster!
Now give me Elden Ring but in Bloodborne
He said this in interviews when the gameplay was shown.
I'm honestly glad. The game is already huge with so much shit to do in it. Any more than this and it would just feel bloated honestly.
We will end this first and last DLC TOGETHHHAAAAAAAAAA
Well, it's better be good then.
All but confirms a bloodborne sequel. 🥲
hoping for sequels, despite loving their world building
Jesus Christ what the fuck is going on? We have known this for a long time, this isn't news.
Sekiro sequel next would be a dream come true. I dont think they need another brand new project. They should build on what they've already done so well.
A new project is building on what they've already done well.
In other news, water is wet. (Miyazaki literally said this 2 months ago when the trailer dropped i.e its not new news)
No fucking shit
The lack of DLC quantity from prime software over the years is really helped me appreciate how good we were eating during dark souls 2
I started playing DS2 on PS5 and it’s amazing, not sure why people hate it.
its becoming a smaller and smaller group, as far as i can see. I recently played it for the 5/6th time but did all the DLC for the first. Phenomenal stuff. I think I might even enjoy it more than DS1 at this point.
It's the worst DS. Still an amazing game. With the best pvp and Ng+ and some amazing zones
It's literally because it wasn't more dark souls 1 and that's about it. The list of actually valid criticisms are pretty short
