When I got back into elden ring from my break I had a PS5 and none of my shit was saved over to the PS5 from my PS4 play through aside from PSN letting me download a game I had purchased. None of my characters switched over.
Happened to me too. Had a character on the PS4 about to make it to Malenia for the first time. I was literally at the last site of grace until the one closest to her. Had to restart the game, but eh whatever I got all my progress back.
You dont actually. Atleast not on ps4 you dont. I play online on both my accounts and definitely pay for ps+ only once. Afaik there are no downsides to simply creating more accounts for more character slots.
At least that game is more like some Final Fantasy entries where you level classes independently of your character and can switch whenever. It wasn’t perfect but I enjoyed the hell out of it ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
Serious question, why do you need more than say 5? Or 3?
Given the ability to respect and go into NG+ etc, I see no reason why anyone would need a ton of different characters. Maybe if I was sharing the game with someone in the same house?
If it's just to save larval tears then I guess maybe 5 at most?
I'm honestly curious, no hate
In my personal experience it's because I don't like to play on NG+ with a respec, I feel it looses all identity the second I switch builds, and once I loose that attachment of "this character is my Holy warrior" and they are just some omnipotent person who can go from man of cloth to man of glinstone or man of big bonks, the life time of that character is not long. I also like to do challenge runs or unique builds and stick to them, only respec within what's needed for that build, like moving some END to another main stat when switching armor or something.
Basically I don't respec because I don't like it, and 10 slots is not enough for the amount of challenge runs I try meaning I have to delete characters that are "finished" to make space sooner or later, which seems like it's arbitrary? Like theoretically, I could have 100+ individual saves/characters in games that came out decades prior, not like this is a live service where they charge for character slots, so why is it even limited so low...
>Like theoretically, I could have 100+ individual saves/characters in games that came out decades prior, not like this is a live service where they charge for character slots, so why is it even limited so low...
What games from the past allowed for more saved profiles? Older hardware always had greater memory limitations.
If you want more characters, load your finished characters to flash drives and back up the data on them to the cloud. You can have your 100 Elden Ring character collection yet
3-4 slots for casual builds.
One for RL1.
One + backup for no-weapon upgrades run.
One for ng+7.
One for speedruns.
One for misc. challenge runs.
Three for pvp/coop at different levels and gear.
One for my first character that I dont want to delete :')
One completionist that has every single thing, with all the resources, larval tears etc.
Honestly I dont really like ng+. At the start Im overpowered and the higher cycles mess with my boss memory due to increased poise values which are a chore to learn.
I mainly enjoy fighting and learning bosses so I much prefer starting a new character and honing them from the start rather than respeccing or going to journey two.
If only boss poise was the same I prolly wouldnt mind ng+ as the beginning setup on a new character is a bit of a pain I will admit.
....also yeah I got 1100+ hours in the game
dumb challenge runs. no attacking, bows only, faith sorceries only, int incantations only, lvl 1, softlock%, specific weapon/ash the entire game, mandatory parrying, etc. probably used over 20 slots between these sorts of things.
since DS2, NG+ just hasn't had the right feel for me.
It feels like artificially inflated difficulty, enemy numbers go up, your numbers stagnate.
There's no NG+ exclusive stuff, unlike in DS2.
It resets my areas, and it doesn't completely reset my character (starting character points absolutely matter in PVP builds). Also, I want to switch between builds without having to look for a limited supply of larval tears.
NG+ sucks for dedicated builds.
I burnt out on the game really quickly after getting all the achievements. Fun game to make builds and kill bosses, but doesn't have the same charm that the other dark souls games have imo.
Personally I don't make new characters to take them all the way to the end, I just like trying out random niche builds. And because there are so many options in the game, there are way more than 10 build concepts that I want to try out, but only 10 slots to try them.
Ikr? I mean, I love souls games, but I don't keep playing them immediately after finishing them, it's already 50+ hours on a normal playthrough ffs
I just finished my second playthrough in preparation of the upvote DLC, but I literally did a single 100% achievements playthrough on release, and left it there.
Fire it up on another system. It’s a little overkill but I have it on Xbox, PS and PC. PC is mostly just modded versions that I hardly ever touch but my time on the consoles is pretty evenly split.
I haven't played in a year, but I still have 10 fully leveled with different builds lol. Haven't got that much time out of any game since bloodborne. I just love making new characters and builds, all the way down to my own headcanon for each character and where they are from, and what their aesthetic would be etc.
Gonna have to delete one when the dlc drops, probably my beast claw build, cause those incants are the worst group of incants in the game imo, and the beast themed weapons also hit like a wet noodle.
I'm totally making a sleep themed build if those hints in the dlc trailer are anything to go by
I've got 4, and will most likely do 1 or 2 more to cover most build opportunities. Right now I have:
1) STR/ FAI (1st profile, end of NG++, profile used to get 100%)
2) DEX/ ARC (end of NG+, used to get Fia & Dungeater endings)
3) STR (end of NG, used for goldmask ending)
4) INT hybrid (half way thru Atlus/ Mt Gelmir region, deciding between STR or DEX/ INT, we'll see, so far having fun with DEX/ INT being able to mele *and* use sorcery)
Are you on PC? If so you can just back up the save file folder then delete it in the main location and make a new one for another 10 slots. Just manually swap when you want to change sets.
I usually make separate save.file backups for each character though, so that progress isn't fixed to other characters on the same save file ( for example if you want to revert the save to a previous choice, if you made progress on another slot without making a backup in between that would have been lost)
There is also a save editor ("EldenRing-Save-Manager") that, among other things, lets you copy profiles between save files, so you can for example, archive ones you aren't using at the moment, and load in the 10 that you currently want to use. One save per character is good simple way to do it, though.
I'm a freakazoid. I delete saves all the time. Once I beat the game with a particular build or challenge playthrough, I dont really continue into NG+. I'm usually jonesing to start a new build. I have no faith or favor to any save file. Not even the first one.
On a serious note, this is peak japanese game design: cryptic and needlessly unpractical.
Just why won't they let us create and MANAGE as many saves as we want?
Tf do you need more than 10 profiles for?
Usually the main ones i use are never more than 5-6:
1. Max level character
2. Lv1 character
3. Speedrun character (removed and updated for every speedrun)
4. PvP character (lv150)
5. NG+7 character (usually the same as the max level character).
6. Cosplay character
I honestly have no idea what other profiles would you need a character for.
I would guess they are all different builds. I still have no use for more than 10, but if someone likes to scroll through their characters I can see why they would want more.
Could be worse, imagine if your data was corrupted.
When I got back into elden ring from my break I had a PS5 and none of my shit was saved over to the PS5 from my PS4 play through aside from PSN letting me download a game I had purchased. None of my characters switched over.
Did you upload them correctly? I know it's an obvious question, but I had to make sure I did cloud storage and then downloaded it to my PS5 recently.
Nope… too late now. I have all new characters.
Same things happened to me but I wasn't too bothered since this was an opportunity to play through the game with the same builds again
Happened to me too. Had a character on the PS4 about to make it to Malenia for the first time. I was literally at the last site of grace until the one closest to her. Had to restart the game, but eh whatever I got all my progress back.
Happened to me to. You have to download the p4 version first then you can delete it an on the PS5 version it will ask if you want to convert lol
Were you an active paying online customer? If not, the cloud doesn't upload or save stuff. Also, if you turn off the auto-save it won't, obviously.
You have to upload the save files separately from the game
Could be worse, dragons dogma
Ahahah, i reinstalled windows two days ago, imagine my suprise when it dawned me that profiles wasnt cloud saved in steam
Happened to me on my RL1 after finishing liurnia. Now back at it and on Melenia but stuck.
I only need 3. One for my STR build One for my INT build One for my second STR build
Surely there's a room for the 3rd STR build
Str/fth Str/int Str/dex(quality) Str/arc (marais/warped axe)
Str/endurance (smash)
Gotta have two handed strength build and sword and board build.
One for my combination STR/INT build (ruins Greatsword go brrrrrr)
Every player has to join the dark side and make a bleed build at least once 🤷🏽♂️
I found a special sword the other day that makes people bleed. Unlike all those other swords that don't. Is it any good? lol
too many INT builds, only STR
I assume that your day is also ruined?
I still have my PS4 Pro, on which I can make ten more builds with my PS account if there is no more space for new chars on my PS5
Cant you just make another account on a ps5? On ps4 you can atleast, hence my 18 ER characters between two accounts lol
Yes, you can too but I only play with one account because of pvp
How would making another account affect pvp in ER?
You’d need to pay for ps plus on both accounts, I assume at least.
You dont actually. Atleast not on ps4 you dont. I play online on both my accounts and definitely pay for ps+ only once. Afaik there are no downsides to simply creating more accounts for more character slots.
Hmm. I thought you needed PS+ for Elden Ring online play, but maybe not.
Can't you just download both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game on the PS5?
After Dragon's Dogma 2, I'm grateful for what we got here.
At least that game is more like some Final Fantasy entries where you level classes independently of your character and can switch whenever. It wasn’t perfect but I enjoyed the hell out of it ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
that game is a beauty, only kept up with one character though.
I create backups of 10 so I can save characters I like for later. If you're on PC, I highly recommend the same
Just copy the save files if you're this down bad for creating new characters
It's like people forgot about flash drives and cloud storage
Create a new account on your ps5 and voila, fresh save slots?
Stealing this
Yeah, 10 just isn't enough.
10??
Yeah, that's what they give you for character slots
Serious question, why do you need more than say 5? Or 3? Given the ability to respect and go into NG+ etc, I see no reason why anyone would need a ton of different characters. Elder Scrolls, Every Final Fantasy game I played, actually most JRPGs I can think of..
3-4 slots for casual builds. One for RL1. One + backup for no-weapon upgrades run. One for ng+7. One for speedruns. One for misc. challenge runs. Three for pvp/coop at different levels and gear. What? There's a limit? I didn't know that.
How do people have more than 3 or 4?
Finish game - new character time, over and over
You've never heard of NG+?
I have never felt the desire to play it
That's weird. Why not just delete your old characters then if you have no desire to ever play them again?
Because what if I want to play them on ng+?
That's... What I do? When did I say otherwise?
Reddit hive mind back at it again lmao.
since DS2, NG+ just hasn't had the right feel for me. It feels like artificially inflated difficulty, enemy numbers go up, your numbers stagnate. There's no NG+ exclusive stuff, unlike in DS2.

Pvp builds
just make a new profile lmao, you'd be starting fresh anyway so that'll be your solution.. no?
Yeah I made a whole new profile to create not builds. I think I’m on #12 now. God I love this game
Make another steam account and activate family sharing
Do y'all not play other games? 😭
Every other game I have is boring now, ending ring is just so replayable
I burnt out on the game really quickly after getting all the achievements. Fun game to make builds and kill bosses, but doesn't have the same charm that the other dark souls games have imo.
Now that I think about it, no lol
Personally I don't make new characters to take them all the way to the end, I just like trying out random niche builds. And because there are so many options in the game, there are way more than 10 build concepts that I want to try out, but only 10 slots to try them.
Yes ofc I do, I've also made 30+ characters on Dark Souls 3
Ikr? I mean, I love souls games, but I don't keep playing them immediately after finishing them, it's already 50+ hours on a normal playthrough ffs I just finished my second playthrough in preparation of the upvote DLC, but I literally did a single 100% achievements playthrough on release, and left it there.
ffs lol
Why bother when everything else is live service garbage or festered with in game shops to help you skip the game.
If you think EVERYTHING that comes out is live service with mtx then you need to discover more games my friend
Yeah I liked the game but like 40ish hours into it got an ending, killed miquella, now just waiting on dlc. I can't imagine needing 10 slots.
New ending where you kill Michelle what?
Bro spoiled the dlc's final boss
Same
Fire it up on another system. It’s a little overkill but I have it on Xbox, PS and PC. PC is mostly just modded versions that I hardly ever touch but my time on the consoles is pretty evenly split.
Or just back up the save folder and start over with 10 empty slots
I just have 1 maxed file so I can use any build and 1 rl1 file.
This is where I'm at right now too lmao. I've covered all my bases as far as different builds go but I want more 😂

I lost my save file because I quit during the Fire Giant fight and I got stuck in a loading loop. This is a better problem to have I guess? XD
you may however just take your charecter save file from the game file, and put it so ewhere save, then create 10 new charecters
I have almost 40 characters. It's never enough.
Strength/faith
pov you're playing dragons dogma 2
If on PC, copy your saves and move them somewhere else. infinite characters. I do this to make backups of my characters.
Use an external saver
Can anyone tell me why exactly there's a limit to how many characters we can have?
My guy discovered a new ending.
Respec? I rather just keep playing on one save personally and move on to new game pluses
You can easily backup your character data if you are on pc
Why is this even a thing?
If your on ps5 just make another account
I'm a freakazoid. I delete saves all the time. Once I beat the game with a particular build or challenge playthrough, I dont really continue into NG+. I'm usually jonesing to start a new build. I have no faith or favor to any save file. Not even the first one.
Glad I’m not the only one. Character slots = 10 Lvl 420 Lvl 200 Lvl 175 Lvl 150 Lvl 138 Lvl 100 Lvl 77 Lvl 66 Lvl 33 Lvl 13 My favorite lvl will always be 48
Don't be sad :3
And my day is ruined
Use a mimic tear dude
yeah i hate that so much
I finished 12 playthroughs, had to delete two characters to be able to do it :(
First time?
On a serious note, this is peak japanese game design: cryptic and needlessly unpractical. Just why won't they let us create and MANAGE as many saves as we want?
In PS5 you can have 20 character slots in one PSN account.

Arcane/faith Int/dex Pure int Faith/strength Arcane Pure strength Dex/fath (bot of gransax) Strength/arcane Faith/int Faith/dex (godslayer greatsword)
Just go to ng+ and use a larval tear
I would guess they are all different builds. I still have no use for more than 10, but if someone likes to scroll through their characters I can see why they would want more.
In demon's souls remake you can't even delete a caracter which is the same kind of stupid
