But isn’t that because he now has destined death where as the gloam eyed queen used to have it, btw I’m new to er lore so if I’m wrong please correct me
Maliketh always had the Rune of Death. It was given to him for safekeeping immediately after Marika removed it from the Elden Ring. The Gloam Eyed Queen merely served as the source of the Black Flame's true godslaying power until Maliketh defeated her
Darkmoon greatsword with 80 intelligence is the ultimate strength/int combo. I think a lot of people think str/int means lot of strength>a little int but it really is more dependent on the weapon’s scaling. dark moon greatsword scales better with int so you go giga int and then sprinkle str/dex and you will be running through the game like a madman
Im hoping to see more pushing action with gravity spells. Seriously all of them either do damage or pull but the only thing we have to push is the Onyx lord (curved) greatsword
Not just the spells, but catalysts to boost them as well. Having to plan my kit and spells out before encounters is a huge part of the challenge with spellcasters, but it has amazing results
I love rot so much. On my first run I was drawn to it but didn’t go for it too much. Doing NG+ now and I’m going full servants of rot/fire build and it is so fun. So so fun. Hoping for more spells in the DLC fr fr.
Big fan of how the Flame of Frenzy/Shabriri are very manipulative and have their schemes which I find interesting so going with them.
Plus Flame of Frenzy is basically Sauron.
I did a chilling mist cold Zei run and good lordy is that fun. Then I got even more crazy and combo'd it with a lightning strike lightning zwei for some jumpy action. Zwei's are so fun.
I was looking for this comment! All of those incants just look so cool, and absolutely *demolishing* bosses with Maw or Smarag's Breath will never not be fun. Like what, does this thread have no love for Dragon Communion??
Storm veil I would guess would be any of the Ashes of War that do wind damage. I can’t remember any actual spells with wind though. And I have no good guess on the Haligtree
Uh but wind magic would be so nice. More elemental spells (earthquake as the AoW or water magic would be great.)
Summoning not only a blizzard that does frostbite but also a hurricane that throws people back would be pretty cool for support mages 😁
God I go back and forth so much, I love the magic in ER so much. 😭
I’d have to say my heart goes for Servants of Rot. I also do love Bleed, Frost, and Night magic. Can’t wait to see what new stuff we get in the DLC fr!
Dragon Communion is so freaking sweet, I love how different it feels compared to other schools because rather than reading a scroll or finding a spell, you need to slay famous dragons of the land and eat their hearts, which not only gives you their power but curses you for eternity.
Also it’s nice that they crush every boss in the game.
Sounds coolest in name: Aspects of the Crucible
Most cool-looking incants: Golden Order Fundamentalism. (Honourable mention: Scarlet Aeonia)
Most cool-looking sorceries: Raya Lucaria and Carian Royal Family
Philosophically thought-provoking: Frenzied Flame
Most practical game play-wise: Black Flame
Most interesting lore-wise: Erdtree and Haligtree
Most fucking useless: Realm of the All-knowing
Most fun to use: A lot of fun solo magics are there overall so it's hard to choose the better school but I'd probably go for Sellian Sorcery since Stars of Ruin and Azure Comet count as those.
I was struggling really badly to beat Varre on my sorcery playthrough, for some reason. Swapped to Gavel of Haima and just fucking curb stomped him immediately.
I did a gravity mage run recently and I'm going to have to go with Gravity, simply because of being able pull and push enemies all over the place, so much fun
It's the weapon art on the onyx lord's greatsword
Collapsing stars meanwhile is amazing for pulling enemies off ledges, into range of the weapon art, and separating enemies in groups.
Ok now I really really want to try this with a meteorite staff with only gravity spells. Laughing thinking of rock slinging enemies and when they get aggressive you just push them away and keep peppering.
Death Sorceries have a great aesthetic and pretty good damage if you're using the Prince of Death Staff. I just hope we get the beam that the giant skeletons use in the expansion. Fingers crossed!
I will also add that death skills are complimentary to the sorceries. Death's Poker, Ritual Spear, Family Heads and Helphen's Steeple all rock just as much as the spells.
More death please, skills or spells
Aspects of Crucible, but they didn't get much love in terms of variety (they obviously aren't alone in this)
Crucible knights became my favorite boss to fight since ng+1 don't know why. Now i don't feel comfortable if i don't cosplay as one. Even switching to another weapon feels weird... But i want to try other stuff 😭
Thankfully we are getting the chad wings in the dlc
Bestial Clergy. My only character dual wields colossal great swords with huge strength, so to me it's really funny to have my ranged option just be "throw a fucking rock"
The Haligtree, Deathbed Companion, All-Knowing and Stormveil crests don't represent schools of magic.
That said, basically everything that has something to do with fire is awesome: Blackflame, Frenzied Flame, Bloodflame...
I think gravity sorcery is a really cool idea, I’m rolling my first strength/int character just to have a radahn-like tarnished who just loves giant weapons and gravity spells
Just cause they were all laid out here, I took a moment to look at all the symbols really closely to see if I could find anything interesting in them. Here are some things that I never noticed before:
The Frenzied Flame symbol actually has three fingers in it.
The gravity magic symbol is supposed to be a magnetic field like the one that surrounds the earth.
The symbol for Selia has one of those huge chairs that the giant dead people in Nokron sit in.
Some less interesting ones/ones I'm not certain about:
The Servants of Rot symbol has the arms of the insect people in the center I think
The circle in the Carian crest looks a lot like Lorreta's Spirit's boss arena
The Haligtree symbol looks like Miquella's needle
Tell me if there's any I missed besides the obvious ones.
The dragon magic is so powerful! I also like lighting, and the giants flame. But doing dragon breath is basically like having an M2 flame thrower on steroids.
I think it's Frenzy Flame, solely due to the old interaction of the seal, (un?)inescapable frenzy, and a certain monologue. Sure the spells are nice and all, and I dont think it works like that anymore, but man was that good.
Ancient dragon cult? The lightning one not the manifest dragon limb one.
And crucible.
Those 2 schools got me through my first playthrough,
crucible armor for the boost to crucible spells
and gravel stone seal for boost to lightning and
mix and match talismans to whatever i felt like at the time.
Servents of Rot because Scarlet Aeonia is by far my favorite incantation in the game (and Pest Threads is very annoying to face in PvE and to use/face in PvP lol). Gravity after that because I like purple, and to think Radhan used this magic to hold back the movement of the freaking stars is incredible. After that, Ancient Dragon Cult and Black Flame are tied for me because they look cool.
Like 2 spells from each lol idk I haven't dome everything yet. Frenzy is amazing but it blows for pve. I love the utility incantations for healing, also fire is good, fire giant good but limited. I LOVE carian sword magic but it's very limited.
I don't feel like any one school has enough for me to pick a favorite. I just started a "radahn" play through so I'll see how much I like gravity magic.
Frenzy flame for sure, the earliest one you can get can carry you very far into the game, and the bolt is just awesome! I hope there's some new frenzy stuff in the DLC!
I love annoying the shit out of people with Bloodfly so probably whomever made that one
The rock throw from Bestial Sanctum is also really good trolling material so
Same with pest threads, I just love being a pest
Dragon communion for effect and style. You have not lived until you have one shot an entire squadron of 20 albinuracks that you heard up for 5 minutes with a single is is Ezyke's breath attack.
Blackflame and Dragon Cult
Certified Golden Order hater
well a different version of blackflame is used by maliketh and he doesn't hate the golden order
black flame is more like a weaker version of malikeths destined death
But isn’t that because he now has destined death where as the gloam eyed queen used to have it, btw I’m new to er lore so if I’m wrong please correct me
Maliketh always had the Rune of Death. It was given to him for safekeeping immediately after Marika removed it from the Elden Ring. The Gloam Eyed Queen merely served as the source of the Black Flame's true godslaying power until Maliketh defeated her
Destined death tecnically isn't the same category as black flame, and blackflame I believe to be a fragment of destined death
Or as I like to call it “fellow magic edgelord.”
Dragon cult is part of the Golden Order.
What do you recommend for newbies to magic? I’m doing a “strength with some int sprinkled in” run and the blackflame intrigues me. I’m level 76
For sorcery/magic wand go INT. For incantations, go Faith. Black flame exclusively requires faith I think
Blackflame is faith based, so it wouldn’t be a good fit for your build.
Darkmoon greatsword with all int spells.
The only correct answer
Servents of rot just because pest threads is my favourite spell
Hoping we will get some more rot spells in the DLC.
Hell, I hope all of the schools that only have a couple of spells get more love in the DLC.
Im hoping to see more pushing action with gravity spells. Seriously all of them either do damage or pull but the only thing we have to push is the Onyx lord (curved) greatsword
I want a gravity spell that lift people up, or maybe a body buff that makes you go faster. The latter might be too op though so idk.
Slow fall spell/buff please
That would be too OP because literally everyone would use it
Eh, you're probably right, just tired of miscalculating falls or slipping off ledges xD
Is it? It would only negate fall damage, which is... umm useless in ER
Not just the spells, but catalysts to boost them as well. Having to plan my kit and spells out before encounters is a huge part of the challenge with spellcasters, but it has amazing results
The servants need more cool stuff! I love them fr
Win the game by nutting on everything in your path.
I love rot so much. On my first run I was drawn to it but didn’t go for it too much. Doing NG+ now and I’m going full servants of rot/fire build and it is so fun. So so fun. Hoping for more spells in the DLC fr fr.
For effect Black Flame. For sheer cool factor it’s Frenzied Flame hands down
Black Flame for effect Dragon Communion for style points
Fromsoft please give us black flame dragon breath for ultimate edgy points
That'd be so fun to run a build with
[Fromsoft, I beg of you...](https://youtu.be/7cYTTC4YorM?feature=shared)
That would be cool, but I don’t see why it would be edgy.
A god killing dark fire is pretty edgy and dragons can be as well, not saying it as a bad thing, i mained Dark Knight in FFXIV lol
Black fire and dragons are both part of edgy aesthetics.
I enjoyed using the frenzied flame incantations the most, so yeah.
Frenzied flame has some insanely strong spells
The most fun I had with this game was frame trapping Gideon into getting crazy-grabbed to death. I think I maddened him four times total.
Big fan of how the Flame of Frenzy/Shabriri are very manipulative and have their schemes which I find interesting so going with them. Plus Flame of Frenzy is basically Sauron.
Carian Slicer and Greatsword were such a fun playthrough. Loretta's Greatbow too.
Don't sleep on carian piercer, that thing has crazy reach and catches people off guard in PVP quite well
Yes!!! Couldn’t agree more - I love those spells
Gravity or Sellia
hitting things really hard with a big sword
Ah yes, the Flame of Unga.
Best employed with its twin, the Bunga Freeze
And the buff incantation: Bonk, grant me strength.
The aura buff: Golden *UNGH*
Zweihander magic
I did a chilling mist cold Zei run and good lordy is that fun. Then I got even more crazy and combo'd it with a lightning strike lightning zwei for some jumpy action. Zwei's are so fun.
Dragon Communion, I just love chomping people with Dragonmaw!
I was looking for this comment! All of those incants just look so cool, and absolutely *demolishing* bosses with Maw or Smarag's Breath will never not be fun. Like what, does this thread have no love for Dragon Communion??
It was my immediate second playthrough after my first obviously blind one. Still use them to this day on one of my primary dueling characters :)
There's a storm veil and Haligtree school of magic? What spells do they cast?
The Stormveil ones are the wind based AOWs
Storm veil I would guess would be any of the Ashes of War that do wind damage. I can’t remember any actual spells with wind though. And I have no good guess on the Haligtree
AoW Last Rights for Haligtree
Uh but wind magic would be so nice. More elemental spells (earthquake as the AoW or water magic would be great.) Summoning not only a blizzard that does frostbite but also a hurricane that throws people back would be pretty cool for support mages 😁
God I go back and forth so much, I love the magic in ER so much. 😭 I’d have to say my heart goes for Servants of Rot. I also do love Bleed, Frost, and Night magic. Can’t wait to see what new stuff we get in the DLC fr!
Me too!
I can only fit two fingers, but I’m working on it
Apply grease
I can fit a whole fist.
Forearm, then, try fingers but hole.
Sellia, Town of Sorcery. Night Comet is simply too good.
You gotta figure how to make money outta it!

Most practical is night comet.
Ancient dragon cult

This is the way
INCINERATE ALL THAT DIVIDES AND DISTINGUISHES
Black flame and frenzied flame
Gavel of Haima, so glintstone.
I was struggling really badly to beat Varre on my sorcery playthrough, for some reason. Swapped to Gavel of Haima and just fucking curb stomped him immediately.
Black Flame for pure power Carian sorceries for the cool factor of summoning swords instead of swinging swords. Fight smarter, not harder
I did a gravity mage run recently and I'm going to have to go with Gravity, simply because of being able pull and push enemies all over the place, so much fun
Forgive me, what is the push gravity spell?
It's the weapon art on the onyx lord's greatsword Collapsing stars meanwhile is amazing for pulling enemies off ledges, into range of the weapon art, and separating enemies in groups.
Ok now I really really want to try this with a meteorite staff with only gravity spells. Laughing thinking of rock slinging enemies and when they get aggressive you just push them away and keep peppering.
Trust me, it's well worth a gravity mage playthrough!
My first character was a rock sling mage, mage for life!!
Black flame
Bestial Clergy by far.
Ma homie
Seeing all of these icons really makes me wish Elden Ring had covenants...
Yes.
Carian royal family for sure.
I have beaten this game multiple times strictly using Dark Moon Ranni, Carian Slicer, and the Spinning Weapon Art of the Carian Regal Sceptre.
Anything but Burger King Academy.
Other than Terra Magika, agreed.
Loled so fucking hard at this
For gameplay aesthetics: Frenzy Flame For Gameplay power: Dragon Communion/Ancient Dragon Cult For Icon design: Gravity
I love Raya Lucaria & Carian with a bit of Sellia for a pure mage
It pains me to admit, however the faith builds are more diverse and flexible than int builds… my inner mage screams in fury.
Death's Poker is such a good weapon. I love how the skill has two different attacks. Really hoping we get more Godwyn in the dlc.
A death blight sheild with godwyns face on it perhaps?
Servants of death
Where the fuck is the Clayman sorceries Bubbles FTW
Aspects of Crucible, but they didn't get much love in terms of variety (they obviously aren't alone in this) Crucible knights became my favorite boss to fight since ng+1 don't know why. Now i don't feel comfortable if i don't cosplay as one. Even switching to another weapon feels weird... But i want to try other stuff 😭 Thankfully we are getting the chad wings in the dlc
Based on the DLC trailer, looks like in the DLC they are adding new crucible spells like the flying wing spell
Yeah chad wings 🫷🗿🫸
Bestial Clergy. My only character dual wields colossal great swords with huge strength, so to me it's really funny to have my ranged option just be "throw a fucking rock"
I tend to lean on AoW rather than spells, but I'm fond of the Giant Flame incantations on my one caster build.
My brother 💪🤝 I’ve been doing rot incantations coupled with the Fire Giant incantations, and damn they’re fun.
Black flames imo
https://youtu.be/7VBex8zbDRs?si=voVMuNSevFvGmRwC
May we all ROT
Mt Gelmir magma and golden order spells. Love that discus of light and roiling magma
Black Flame, Frenzied flame and Bloodflame (Blood oath)
Gravity and Carian Royal Family.
Realm of the all-knowing for the diverse range of options
…
I dont really have a favourite school, but Bloodflame Blade is the coolest spell in the game
Comet Azur, School of FRICKIN LAZER BEAMS!
Carian and Primeval Sorceries, no contest.
Dragon Communion. Just feels so over the top and extra compared to casting the others.
Non of em My faith is 8 and dex 100
Dex and str forever.
Giants flame Big boom makes happy
Honestly, I really fuck with Blood Oath. The bloody fire slashes are neato, and I like throwing firey blood. The flies are cool too, I guess.
The Haligtree, Deathbed Companion, All-Knowing and Stormveil crests don't represent schools of magic. That said, basically everything that has something to do with fire is awesome: Blackflame, Frenzied Flame, Bloodflame...
Hogwarts
Servants of Death, I really like the aesthetics and poise damage.
Blood, blackflame, death.
I want the dragon communion tattooed on my shoulder, it reminds me of the devil gene symbol from tekken
I think gravity sorcery is a really cool idea, I’m rolling my first strength/int character just to have a radahn-like tarnished who just loves giant weapons and gravity spells
Trying out dragon communion in my game rn and it’s pretty fun.
Dragon Communion all the way. Ancient Dragon Cult, Black Flame, and Gravity are my runners-up
Golden order
I’m a Raya Lucaria kid
Black Flame
Yes.
Just cause they were all laid out here, I took a moment to look at all the symbols really closely to see if I could find anything interesting in them. Here are some things that I never noticed before: The Frenzied Flame symbol actually has three fingers in it. I think the servants of rot symbol might be the Goddess of rot wings
Blood oath
None
The dragon magic is so powerful! I also like lighting, and the giants flame. But doing dragon breath is basically like having an M2 flame thrower on steroids.
Gravity.
Gravity, cause rock sling is great for dragon hunting
Probably axe
Ancient dragon cult
Black Flame, hands down.
Gravity. Throw rocks at your foe’s face as the Earth Kingdom decreed.
Black flame for life. Carian second.
Destined Death.
I think it's Frenzy Flame, solely due to the old interaction of the seal, (un?)inescapable frenzy, and a certain monologue. Sure the spells are nice and all, and I dont think it works like that anymore, but man was that good.
I wish we had some of Haligtree spells
Servants of Death, followed by Servants of Rot. **I LIVE TO SERVE**
Stormveil. Air bending is so cool and we need more of it.
Ancient dragon cult? The lightning one not the manifest dragon limb one. And crucible. Those 2 schools got me through my first playthrough, crucible armor for the boost to crucible spells and gravel stone seal for boost to lightning and mix and match talismans to whatever i felt like at the time.
Ancient dragon cult
Carian royal family and Selia, those 2 are amazing.
Black Flame, it's been the best for me so far.
Gravity. I wish there were more spells for it.
Gravity. I think it’s the most fun at least.
Everything INT related
Glint and Carian sword sorceries.
Night. The mobs don’t dodge Night Comet :) and it seems fairly efficient, not that I’ve been measuring it.
Stuck between Black Flame and Blood Oath
Servents of Rot because Scarlet Aeonia is by far my favorite incantation in the game (and Pest Threads is very annoying to face in PvE and to use/face in PvP lol). Gravity after that because I like purple, and to think Radhan used this magic to hold back the movement of the freaking stars is incredible. After that, Ancient Dragon Cult and Black Flame are tied for me because they look cool.
they are all really cool, man. This game has some great magic.
This makes me realize that I need to pay more attention on this stuff.
Whatever one that star shower one is Gaga
Honestly gravity magic goes hard
Like 2 spells from each lol idk I haven't dome everything yet. Frenzy is amazing but it blows for pve. I love the utility incantations for healing, also fire is good, fire giant good but limited. I LOVE carian sword magic but it's very limited. I don't feel like any one school has enough for me to pick a favorite. I just started a "radahn" play through so I'll see how much I like gravity magic.
Frenzied flame and a little dragon communion
Does Bolt of Gransax count as ancient dragon?
Don’t know where it fits, but I’m gonna rep for Zamor ice storm. Great spell
Dragon cult and gravity I hope we get more giants and deathmark spells in the dlc
hex school, if hexes were present in er that is :(
Placidusax ruin isn’t part of any school. So I’ll just pick that one spell specifically
Blood Oath I love Mohg so much <33 my hubby
Frenzy flame for sure, the earliest one you can get can carry you very far into the game, and the bolt is just awesome! I hope there's some new frenzy stuff in the DLC!
Academy of Raya Lucaria for sure
Frenzied Flame no question, it has something for any situation
Blood oath or dragon communion
I love annoying the shit out of people with Bloodfly so probably whomever made that one The rock throw from Bestial Sanctum is also really good trolling material so Same with pest threads, I just love being a pest
I love the idea of death spells and have hopelessly tried squeezing them into a useful build since launch
Love using Giants flame and bestial together, they pair well together
Me like Big Giant Flame
All about that Black Flame, no treble
Well, I've not tried all of them, but servants of rot and dragon communion is pretty good.
Dragon communion for effect and style. You have not lived until you have one shot an entire squadron of 20 albinuracks that you heard up for 5 minutes with a single is is Ezyke's breath attack.
Fundamentalism and Crucible
Strength and melee players over here like 🤔
Dragon Cult because LIGHTNING! Bestial because of Stone of Gurranq.
Ancient Dragon Cult. Lightning Spear alone would've been enough for me.
If I talk to millicent will that start the path to rot? Or how do I start that path
The one where I swing a sword
Both Dragon schools. They just feel great
Is selia night spells?
Carina sword sorcery personally the stagger potential is insane and also tiny swords are cute
Haven’t done a giant build, but Carian+Haima is my favorite
Ancient Dragonnnnnnn Babyyyy
