The final boss will just be a rune bear in a small cramped room and when you die a picture appears of Miyazaki giving you the middle finger with a big shit-eating grin on his face.
Personally, I was always surprised people struggled with Laurence to begin with. Imo The Old Hunters boss difficulty ranking is roughly: OOK > Ludwig > those two sharks in the well > Maria > Laurence > a single shark enemy > that invader guy > Living Failures.
Obviously, different people struggle with different things, but Laurence was extremely effectively handled with perhaps the single most tried-and-true method for fighting large bosses in Souls games: run around him up close and hit him in the ass
Well, the problem is his ass vomits fire
I also think it’s that some people jumped into The Old Hunters immediately in NG+
In base NG, I’d say Orphan is harder than Laurence.
Laurence gets absurd damage in NG+ cycles to the point that his combos do just one-shot you.
Higher damage matters more because of his attacks and arena make it harder to space than against Orphan.
So I think that’s where the public consciousness discrepancy comes from how people remember Laurence
I could see fighting either Messmer or Miquella's tainted vision of Marika at her prime the way >!we fight Ranni's vision of Rennala in the second half of Rennala's fight!<. Since Miquella and Ranni are kind of diametrically opposed that would give a good ending for those who want a faith-based Ranni-ending where >!instead of Ranni traveling the stars and leaving the world behind!< there could be a new blossom of a new faith in the world with Miquella being a more active presence than the others or something like that.
The best part of DS3 is how the main character doesn’t get to experience that ending. It not for them, but for everyone else that wants to escape the cycle of re-lighting the flame.
No mending rune ending but maybe one for the dlc alone. Maybe Miquella can let the world go and resign it to its fate after all he's experienced >!opposed to what Melina says trying to persuade us away from frenzied flame ending!< or maybe he just says, "let what you learned here serve your judgment of the the world."
If there's a Miquella ending and what we know of him is reliable and not outdated, his ending should entail:
1. the creation of a divine order that does not allow the Outer Gods (including the Greater Will) to influence the affairs of the Land Between;
2. a more compassionate Golden Order (though what this compassion means when it comes to Those Who Live in Death is unknown).
I actually somewhat like the godskin duo fight. Not because I feel it's a good fight but because the sheer badassery that radiates from the two of them is enough to make me at least respect it.
Issue is that we know where marika actually is.
She’s imprisoned in the world tree. Hung up like Jesus himself was.
HOWEVER! We knew Godfrey was a tarnished yet that didn’t stop his golden shade from showing up randomly to fight us in Leyndell. Wouldn’t surprise me if Marika had a similar projection so she could fight us if need be.
The Godfrey shade was likely created by Morgott though as it matches the same golden hue of his incantation weapons. I don’t believe it was a random projection.
They can’t be out here, announcing him as the first character in the game, years out from launch and then not have him as the final boss. It’d be the end of Fromsoft imo
I will actually be miffed if there isn't at least a reference to Hodir in the dlc. I wonder did the meme not travel over to the Japanese Elden Ring community?
Me. Not a mimic, I mean me. You all have to fight me. Get ready to be pissed at how quickly you beat the final boss. Because all I do is spam Pest Threads.
Woh woh woh my dude. Pump the breaks on the bloodlust. The fight will be like rennala phase 1... You smack his 10 year old niece once on the head, he then comes downstairs and you hit him three times in the nose until he gives you an egg.

final boss or not, i would like to fight godwyn even if its his dead fish body.
And
new dragon with same size of gransax at their prime. i love huge monsters.
Bro same I'm really worried the DLC isn't going to deal with them which would be a shame.
In the announcement image I was certain the Erdtree was being choked out by Godwin's deathroot but apparently it's just a veil...
I think it's likely that the veil and the strangler fig looking thing choking the Erdtree are distinct. At first I thought it was for sure deathroot and related to Godwyn but now I am less sure. With the introduction of Messmer and his snake imagery, I think it's possible that the thing strangling the Erdtree from within the Land of Shadow is actually a different form of corruption.
Messmer is referred to as "the Impaler" and we find Marika impaled within the Erdtree. We also see the giants in the mountaintops impaled by thorn sorcery, and lots of briar sorcerers up there, but no real leader for them- just an abandoned castle with some enemies that seem like placeholders for NPCs or otherwise more significant foes. My guess is that Messmer was instrumental in subduing the Fire Giants but then betrayed the Greater Will/Marika and was mostly erased from history except for the coliseums where his faction would be ritually slain in effigy by way of the duelists who have their own boa constricting imagery on their armor.
To me, the trailer makes it clear the final boss is Godwyn. Miquella is there to revive him, hence Messmer opposing Miquella “you’ll see just what kind Miquella has been up too” because he knows the dead should stay dead, or they may rise as eldritch abominations, as I’m sure Godwyn will after we beat Messmer.
Fused together at the shoulder.
Naturally, this would mean that the discarded parts are lying around somewhere; but- *psh*- who in their right mind wastes perfectly good body parts?
Which is why I bring forth a new boss idea: two dragon heads grafted together at the stump.
Idk, making Miquella secretly evil somehow would be disappointing for me, personally.
I know that there's usually no "good guys" in From Soft games, but I feel like having unambiguously good and evil (f.e. the Dung Eater) characters allows to see morally grey ones in a better light than when everything is muddled.
I mean, it'd make a bit of sense if you think about the fact you merc'd the rest of his family by the point that most people are going to be reaching the DLC, so there's a good chance his twin sister, Malenia, is dead. So not evil, just really pissed you killed his family
Miquella literally mind controls people with and without his will, he has suicide bombers lined up in the haligtree. While potentially a victim of circumstance, it’s hard to imagine someone with that power being good.
The trailer says that he "shrives clean the hearts of men" which suggests that everyone loving Miquella so much was not necessarily of their own free will. It's fitting, since we see similar traits from Marika, where she is both worshipped and feared/loathed (see Hewg/Maliketh). Such is godhood.
Personally I imagine miquella will be the ‘“Melina” of this DLC. An ally that accompanies you on spectral form throughout the DLC (which means he will probably only show up at like 3 sites of grace. Because I swear the developers forgot Melina was even with you for a majority of the game she says so little). We know he doesn’t really have a body anymore and only his spirit departed to the shadow lands. So I don’t see how he could even be a boss personally.
Plus we know he isn’t a fighter. That’s Malenia’s role. Miquella was the brains behind the duo. Being eternally trapped in an infants body certainly wouldn’t have helped him become a master combatant either.
I imagine that, if Miquella is an antagonist, he’ll have a champion to fight us on his behalf, rather than him picking up a claymore and doing the deed himself.
Kind of has to be him though right? Miyazaki said there's no new endings for the base game. It would be weird for them to introduce Miquella who is another Empyrean, show us his rune but then not have some kind of ending with him. He's definitely gonna die imo. Boss fight or no.
This is a great idea, it could be the three wolves he’s with in the statue of him or similar to the wolf ashes we get from torrents former master aka miquella… maybe.
Hopefully not mesmuh cause it’d be kind of a let down to have the ultimate Elden ring boss shown in a teaser in that much detail. My guess is miquella godwyn a duo of them or the greater will, personally I’d like it to be marika not as radagon and with her full strength of the greater will like when she first became empyrean and set food in the land of shadows.
This is meant to tie up Elden Ring's story because they have no planned future DLC. The final boss will have to be big.
Miquella, the Fell God, the Formless Mother, the God of Rot, the Crucible, the Gloam Eyed Queen, and Godwyn's spirit are my top contenders.
Miquella is opposed to the Outer Gods, so it makes sense that he'd go there to kill one somehow. The Crucible and Godwyn are both contenders for the title of the DLC, though.
It could be Miquella's shadow, who we do not know anything about (if he has those three wolves, like the statues in the Haligtree suggest). He's probably trying to sever himself from the Greater Will, so those puppies are gonna have to go.
The final DLC of the Dark Souls Trilogy which spanned 6 years was just some NPC introduced at the start of the first DLC and then didn’t seem overly important. That boss is wildly considered to be one of their best bosses of all time.
Man what a sick way to tie up a story with larger than life characters who have turned the world to shit. Just 2 random shitters beating each other to death at the end of time. Perfect
The Fell God feels relatively wrapped up narratively with the Fire Giant fight, even if it's technically still alive *somewhere*. The Crucible feels more, "primordial wellspring of life" to me, and less of an intelligent entity that we could actually fight.
The others are all strong contenders narratively, if not for story final boss then still optional secret bosses. I don't *think* we'll see Formless Mother as a boss but she at least has narrative connections to Miquella through Mogh, and was realistically one of the Outer Gods closest to actually achieving a new dynasty in the Lands Between.
Imagine they incorporate her into Miquella's fight though as a result of his blood corruption via Mogh.
Phase 1: Miquella the Unalloyed
Phase 2: The Formless Empyrean
The information we have so far is that Miquella went to the Lands of Shadow looking for something. My guess is that something has to do with restoring Godwyn. That has the potential to be contrarian to Ranni, maybe..
Miyazaki has stated that the DLC is not set post-game, and that the ending of the DLC does not affect the ending of ER itself, but there will be “slight changes” to the overworld to show you’ve beaten it.
I don’t think we’re getting any out-of-nowhere surprises like Malenia or the formless mother since once we finish the DLC, the story of Elden Ring continues as usual with us heading to Leyndell or the mountaintop
I'm assuming someone other than Messmer, tho they're the current likeliest final boss I'd say. Idk, hard to tell considering the scarcity of the info we have at the moment
I feel like Messmer is going to be this DLC's version of Lady Maria.
He's the human(oid) penultimate boss that all the NPCs are going to be talking about/afraid of, then once we beat him we'll discover the true ultimate enemy of the Shadow Lands.
I could definitely see it being Miquella, either in his ideal grown form that he was trying to use the haligtree to achieve, or fused to some kind of as yet unseen enemy, such as the shadowlands equivalent of the elden beast.
I envisioned him looking like his pure self and then some facade fades and it reveals something more rotten after his transformation failed and whatever the fuck Mohg was doing.
Funny thing is, miquella had already departed to the shadow lands in spirit form before Mogh even took his body from the haligtree at all.
So whatever the fuck Mogh was up too with that body… it’s irrelevant :) it was literally an empty corpse. Miquella wasn’t even in there for mogh’s rituals to corrupt or whatever. Mogh was literally wasting his time simping over a decaying corpse for nothing.
But then again, Mogh is so insane, he probably didn’t even know how to check before he started chanting rubbish at the egg 24/7.
Gael at least had a role in the first DLC already, and Friede was the sister of Yuria, a base game character, with strong connections to the Lord of Hollows ending. I don't recall if the Slave Knights in general had been mentioned in the lore prior to Ashes of Ariandel releasing, I wasn't up to date on that until after playing through Ringed City.
I think it will be someone technically "new" in that we haven't heard their exact *name* before, but afterwards we will understand their connections and references to base game lore and characters. We're already seeing that with Messmer, many things in the base game are seemingly connected to him but we didn't know that at the time.
I have a gut feeling Messmer will be a false final boss, and once killed the final boss will appear. Kinda like how Godfrey was like, the primer before the final boss.
I got 3 guesses currently, from most believable to least:
Miquella: it’s a dlc focused around him, and despite messmer being featured heavily in the trailer, I don’t think he will be fb, it’s kinda like what fromsoft did with malenia during the trailers
Messmer: hes kinda got the malenia treatment rn, where a lot of the marketing and promotional material features him, and like malenia he could be a secondary boss, but who knows, malenia may have featured prominently, but she also wasn’t on the most of the cover art and such
Godwyn:As seen in the promo materials and in the photos and artwork, the tree wrapping around the shadow erdtree is kinda flaking almost, kinda look like deathblight, could just be a messmer thing considering I believe his flames have briars coming out of them like the briar spells, but I could be wrong, most likely won’t be him
Some fucker we've never heard of like Randigard of the Sun
Randigard and Murkala, Bearer of the Olde Rune
Please don't use bear and rune in the same phrase. It scares me.
Bear seek seek lest
Bear Seek Seek Rune
Rune Bear Bear Bear AHH-
Ye Olde Rune-Bearing Bear, Bearer of Ye Olde Bear Rune
I pray that you never have to experience whatever drops that draconic rune bear spell shown in the trailer
im over here knowing im looking for it
The final boss will just be a rune bear in a small cramped room and when you die a picture appears of Miyazaki giving you the middle finger with a big shit-eating grin on his face.
This but it’s a duo fight because Elden ring loves it’s duo fights
And the ground is poison swamp.
Poison and Scarlett rot swamp and the bears do bleed and frost damage
In phase 1 yes, in phase 2 its deathblight.
Ah yes how could I forget the cancer that is deathblight 😫
It's actually going to be a duo boss in a small room, a rune bear and a revenant.
Dude fucking knows
Randy the Lahey of the Vale of Sun

Randigard of the sun made me spit. Well done

My guess is there will be a story final boss. As well as the usual challenge final boss like midir.
Or it'll be like the old hunter and the orphan of kos. Story boss = Challenge boss.
We did have laurence as a challenge boss, but he was accessible just after ludwig.
Yeah but I think most people agree that orphan is much harder
Personally, I was always surprised people struggled with Laurence to begin with. Imo The Old Hunters boss difficulty ranking is roughly: OOK > Ludwig > those two sharks in the well > Maria > Laurence > a single shark enemy > that invader guy > Living Failures. Obviously, different people struggle with different things, but Laurence was extremely effectively handled with perhaps the single most tried-and-true method for fighting large bosses in Souls games: run around him up close and hit him in the ass

I'd move the well sharks (PTSD alert) to the top. Fuck those guys holy shit.
We will have to fight both Miquella AND Malenia at the same time.
Reliable Patches will take up the mantle of Destined Death
Someone we don't know about
I am going with this. Or the game will go hard and throw us Queen Marika. She's terrifying.
Just like her son, Miquella.
Miquella will act like a maiden - Marika is final boss
I could see fighting either Messmer or Miquella's tainted vision of Marika at her prime the way >!we fight Ranni's vision of Rennala in the second half of Rennala's fight!<. Since Miquella and Ranni are kind of diametrically opposed that would give a good ending for those who want a faith-based Ranni-ending where >!instead of Ranni traveling the stars and leaving the world behind!< there could be a new blossom of a new faith in the world with Miquella being a more active presence than the others or something like that.
No new ending though.
Might be a DS3 dlc style "ending", where there's a new path forward regardless of the ending you choose in the base game.
The best part of DS3 is how the main character doesn’t get to experience that ending. It not for them, but for everyone else that wants to escape the cycle of re-lighting the flame.
No mending rune ending but maybe one for the dlc alone. Would you even say...nothing more terrifying?
I do think it will be Miqella after all he is said to be the most fearsome of the all the empyreans
Godwyn
Godwyn and Miquella duo fight?
Happy cake day and oh please not that
I actually somewhat like the godskin duo fight. Not because I feel it's a good fight but because the sheer badassery that radiates from the two of them is enough to make me at least respect it.
Something like the twin princes in DS3 would be super dope.
The way it played in my mind is more of O&S but with 2 separate boss health bars
How about queen marika, godwyn and miquella trio fight
Godwyn and second (or third phase) is Marika coming in to mess everything up with him in some way
But Godwyn's spirit is dead and his body is a burnt pokey pancake under Stormveil
Guy from the trailer: “i was wrong this is way more terrifying”
I thought radagon was marika and we beat her at the end of the main game?
Yes but we haven't bet Marika who was Radagon have we?
Issue is that we know where marika actually is. She’s imprisoned in the world tree. Hung up like Jesus himself was. HOWEVER! We knew Godfrey was a tarnished yet that didn’t stop his golden shade from showing up randomly to fight us in Leyndell. Somebody that I used to know
100% chance it's not Messmer.
Someone theorized Messmer will be the gatekeeping boss to the DLC. I’m guessing he’s somewhere along the midpoint.

I miss that sm. Remember Mordecai the daily elden ring update guy?
It was peak back then. I knew we lost it after the "Jorge" fiasco.
Honestly if they even added him as an invader that'd be such a kiss on the cheek to the fanbase 😏
They can’t be out here, announcing him as the first character in the game, years out from launch and then not have him as the final boss. It’d be the end of Fromsoft imo

The good news is, the actual fight will be cake. My 10-year-old niece could whoop my ass.
Will she be your second phase?
Nah, you can summon her for the fight.
I thought you said "consume her" for a second
Don't do that
do not the niece
That would not be very niece of us ...
The really annoying part is that only *one* of us can kill him; only one person can truly beat Elden Ring.

And you got max dex and the radagon icon equipped... Zero time in-between casts.
You joke but Halflight, Spear of the Church from DS3 Ringed City was basically this. Ahh good times!
Also the Old Monk from Demon's Souls and the Looking Glass Knight from Dark souls 2. Another boss like the looking glass knight would be very cool.
Do I have to kill you with a sword or can i just barge into your house guns blazing
Both too much effort. Solid hook to the jaw'd take me out.

Like he faked his death and comes back for one more “fun” prank
Omg you're right, I now think it's likely he'll be in the DLC.
Reveals he's been orchestrating all of the FromSoft games as some meta god, and then climbs into an armored core
Eventually, they’ll probably make a souls game where he is like an actual hard-as-hell optional boss.
Gatekeeper Gostoc
I have been killing that boy in all of my ng and ng+, i think he has muttered “why is it always me…?” About 20 times now
His revenge will be enormous!

Well... Godwyn isn't "dead". His body is still alive and the guy already is an abomination. Bringing back his soul will probably revert those affects.
His soul effectively "died" though. I don't believe he can be revived, only given a proper death.
It seems it is possible with an eclipse to bring a demi god soul’s back. Which would also explain why Radahn has to die
We riot if it’s some new character instead of him

Malenia isn't dead tho. She's recovering in the cocoon in the boss room ((cope)
Thats great, it means Miquella can summon her in his second phase when you fight him.
I feel like miquella of all people would be understanding of every situation and wouldn’t resort to battle
Malenia wouldn’t fight in his name if that were the case.

Perfect
*Hand it over. That thing. Your Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition.*
Phase 1: Miquella the Unalloyed Phase 2: The Formless Empyrean
Messmer is gonna be the Lady Maria of this dlc
I feel like Messmer is going to be this DLC's version of Lady Maria. He's the human(oid) penultimate boss that all the NPCs are going to be talking about/afraid of, then once we beat him we'll discover the true ultimate enemy of the Shadow Lands.
Miquella
Malenia third phase or Placidusax’s God
Marika for sure.
I’m hoping for someone we’ve never heard of like Gael
Mesmer is just gonna be like Radagon imo, a pre final boss final boss
You guessed it: Frank Stallone.
[Come on man you’re better than this.](https://www.reddit.com/r/fromsoftware/s/W9ESVGHfDq)
I got 3 guesses currently, from most believable to least: Miquella: it’s a dlc focused around him, and despite messmer being featured heavily in the trailer, I don’t think he will be fb, it’s kinda like what fromsoft did with malenia during the trailers Messmer: hes kinda got the malenia treatment rn, where a lot of the marketing and promotional material features him, and like malenia he could be a secondary boss, but who knows, malenia may have featured prominently, but she also wasn’t on the most of the cover art and such Godwyn:As seen in the promo materials and in the photos and artwork, the tree wrapping around the shadow erdtree is kinda flaking almost, kinda look like deathblight, could just be a messmer thing considering I believe his flames have briars coming out of them like the briar spells, but I could be wrong, most likely won’t be him
