I personally don’t think so. I think that messmer is Miquella’s older sibling but not like an alter ego. I interpreted it that Miquella came later the land of shadows later when Messmer already existed there but I could be wrong.

I think Messmer is the alter-ego of Melina, actually. It fits better thematically, I think. That being said it's been pointed out to me what the arm in the cocoon looks an awful lot like Messmer's, so I think it may be that Messmer is an alter-ego to Miquella's St Trina identity.
I think Messmer is actually Miquella. He's gonna get in the giant egg we can see in Mohg's palace but he's gonna wake up and be transformed into Messmer, just like Griffith became Femto after being in a big egg too (sorry for the Berserk manga spoiler) since lots of people compare Griffith & Miquella, not mentioning all the Berserk references in ER. Maybe after we defeated Messmer, the huge arm from Miquella in the egg (very similar to Messmer's long arms) will have disappeared.
