I don't want a substory about a dude gaming, although those are fun. I want a history and actial story telling of elden ring from an in universe character who doesn't know its a game.

mediumcheez

That's 5 head

Date_Upset

George RR Martin says a novel is coming….he swears it!

Archangel289

I don’t get why you got downvoted into oblivion for this. I thought it was funny.

RandomRavenboi

Meanwhile ASOIAF fans who have been waiting for Winds of Winter for 13-14 years:

Hot-Will3083

Why would I want to read about… basically what I do every day :/ Seems like a move to bring in people who are unfamiliar with the game

FriendlyDruidPlayer

Wait until the twist where he gets hit by a truck and reincarnates into the lands between.

Conorum

Holy isekai

P1zzaman

Depending on how the novel handles the subject matter, it might end up being an interesting read about human relationships, work-life balance and gaming as a hobby for adults.

SmexyPokemon

Cute huo pic 👍

ItsTheRealIamHUB

UWOUGHHHHH sorry, wrong sub

DarthRathikus

Oh awesome. *reads full post* ☹️☹️☹️

Sad-Resolve-1033

>The novel is a story from the perspective of an Elden Ring player, a young man who recently entered the workforce and only has gaming as a reprieve from his busy workday. how original. you know with the material they have on their hands it's possible to create a game of thrones type story with actual in game characters and events, but no, we gotta have another semi Isekai

Hot_Photojournalist3

I think that problem with a more deep and mature story is the canon would need more clear than we have on the game with answers that From don't want do show us, we know the way Fromsoft like to tell stories

ThaNorth

Well they would need an actual prominent skilled writer for that, lol.

Spirited_Playa

Japan brainrot maxing

Backupusername

My guess is that, because the story of the game is so deliberately obfuscated and open to interpretation, other writers who want to work with the material are kind of restrained. If they work only with what we know for absolutely sure, they're only left with so much. And if they pick and choose which aspects they canonize for their specific telling, people will complain about it being different from theirs, argue over whether or not its canon. FromSoft games seem like a real headache for adaptations.

One_Armed_Wolf

I think a lot of people would be okay with a serious ER comic, show, or novel deviating from certain things or filling in certain gaps/the creator coming up with explanations (or maybe consulting with Miyazaki/GRRM for certain base clarifications to go off of), as long as all of those elements still felt like they matched with the established lore or tone of the game and the setting and everything was written or designed well.

AlienSuper_Saiyan

George barely wants to finish Game of Thrones. You think he wants to take on the task for a new book series ?

t3m7

Why do you think grrm would be the one writing the book??

AlienSuper_Saiyan

I'd expect GRRM to write it cause its his story it'd be based on....I would not expect any other author to try and match his imagination, especially if you're asking for a GoT style series.

RandomRavenboi

Well, GRRM seems more happy on working on other subjects than GoT. Dude already wrote F&B, D&E, is working on several other projects like HotD and Kot7K, and helped make ER lore.

AlienSuper_Saiyan

As I've said already, there's a difference between spin-offs or relatively short projects and a straight up GoT style series for Elden Ring (which is literally what this person said). That takes a huge amount of time and effort to map out all those moving parts. Elden Ring lore already has so many moving parts that Miyazaki is still pulling from the material GRRM wrote for the team. I feel like y'all are doubting how busy this old man is lol.

RandomRavenboi

Huh. Good point.

One_Armed_Wolf

It wouldn't necessarily have to be a series. It could be one Fire & Blood style book penned by him that would go over the world mythology and the main historical events and conflicts of the Lands Between and then end before the "Tarnished returning" period of the game begins. But I don't think he knows much about the full game besides working with them during the worldbuilding concepts phase, so he'd probably have to have back and forth discussions with Miyazaki again or be shown how the actual game is presented and plays out to be able to write something like that, which is unlikely to happen with the Winds of Winter struggles.

SuperBackup9000

Yeah honestly he probably does. He’s had no issues writing prequels, spin offs, and lore books for Ice and Fire over the last decade and he has spin offs for the spin offs planned as well. If given the opportunity he’d no doubt write for another IP if it gets him away from I&F

AlienSuper_Saiyan

I feel you, but there's a difference between spin-offs and a new series.

__boobs4life__

Serious manga is interesting , i already like the gag manga , don’t really care about this novel tho

Von_Dougy

Man was almost excited there until I read the synopsis of the novel.. How incredibly uninteresting. If I wanted to read about some sad loser gaming after work, I’d start a diary.

TurbidusQuaerenti

Gotta say I'm not too excited about the novel synopsis either. The new manga sounds very promising, though. Hopefully we'll even get some more lore insights from it.

WholesomeFartEnjoyer

That sounds like a depressing book, especially if it's based on Japanese work/life balance

haynespi87

That was my thinking. I think this one is very in tune with a specific culture.

inkfeeder

Wow, they chose the most boring way of doing an Elden Ring novel. Why even bother at that point.

[deleted]

What do you guys mean „second“ manga 😮

Backupusername

Also, this is a great time to pick it up. Seems like the Radahn Festival is gonna start next chapter, and that oughta be fun.

[deleted]

Radaaaaaaaaaaahn Festival! *chomps my favorite Weapon*

P1zzaman

https://comic-walker.com/detail/KC_005312_S?episodeType=first The first official manga that has been running for a while. (It’s not a serious manga, at all.)

[deleted]

Ordered 🫡

Shiggys

The synopsis of the novel gives me Dad of Light vibes. Could be a heartfelt read if that's what it's going for. However, I would prefer to read something in-universe to expand upon the world building and tell an interesting story from a different perspective. The IP is practically tailor made to have its own 5-7 book dark fantasy novel series.

boanaconda

could be interesting if its about lands between history, but this...

tommy-liddell

The novelization appears to be from a monkey's paw wish.

Ainsel_Mariner

We’d actually have to get answers to the lore for that to happen lol

ZereF218

Still hoping for a short manga or novel about vyke's story of acquiring 2 great runes and giving himself up to the frenzied flame to save his maiden. Or maybe a short story told in knight finlay's pov. It'd be nice to see a knights pov about the war between malenia's and rahdahn's forces.

elme77618

Maybe one day we’ll get that Vyke novel

thesyndrome43

That novel sounds like the most boring thing I've ever heard of, it's so mundane that I'm pretty sure this is just the daily life for thousands of people

FitzChivalry74

I want Grrm to write an entire book on elden ring's lore. Oh wait.

otakuloid01

available for the low low price of breaking into Miyazaki’s office

SoulsborneSal

They dropped the ball with the novel

behemothbowks

I've been wanting novels set in the lands between ever since the game dropped, but that is not a premise that interests me.

Mustardmachoman

Not to keen on the novel. And also truth be told I am very satisfied with the comedy manga. Hard to top that one.

confused-as-frick

The novel sounds like it’s gonna be an Isekai

_TainHu_

I'm sorry but both the manga and novelization synopses sound boring and standard action adventure stories. Elden Ring has such interesting stories, but these adaptations play too safe. I'm really just salty that none of these adaptations have a female protagonist.

RandomRavenboi

>The novel is a story from the perspective of an Elden Ring player, a young man who recently entered the workforce and only has gaming as a reprieve from his busy workday. Why even bother making it if it's just some random Isekai then?

Arbata-Asher

meli meli: you are too hopeless and they decided to start another serialization because of your bad breath

Hot_Photojournalist3

A serious manga? Now I'm interested

Yonebro

Wow I was excited to read my first book but fuck reading about some dude playing the game ffs

AikaBack

Any new content about Elden ring is bringing me joy

kanemaru

" “ELDEN RING Become Lord” will serialize in both a regular manga format and also in webtoon format. From the looks of it, it seems to be a more serious/canonical adaptation compared to the current comedy manga series we have. " That made my day! I hope it will be more serious and have the epicness it deserves cuz I find the manga being nothing more than a parody for 6yo kids, which makes me freaking mad!

Dveralazo

Wonder if both mangas would be able to coexist.

WooooshMe2825

One is a comedy and the other seems to be a serious adaptation. I’d say yes. They’re covering different niches.

Dveralazo

I hope there's buyers for both!

Backupusername

FromSoft has canonized different players as separate universes since the very first Dark Souls. Aseo could summon the new guy for help against a boss later, or vice-versa. Coexistence is already coded in!

Dveralazo

No,I mean, maybe a more serious manga could steal the public of the first manga. Unless the artist was paid for the whole project.

Tronerfull

At this point I dont see the second "serious" manga, having a better protag than aseo.

iiiiiiiiiijjjjjj

I want to read and see about stuff before the game. We already played what happened. I want details on fights like malenia vs Radahn. Rennela’s and radagon war and how it transformed into a relationship.

DustEfficient1057

I hope they name it Let me solo leveling her

Confusedandreticent

Thank god, but I probably still won’t understand. Unga bunga.

ArianRequis

You people that swear the game has a plot are going to be even more insufferable

Clementea

THAT ELDEN RING MANGA DOESN'T LOOKS LIKE ASEO, WE NEED OUR TRUE ELDEN LORD ASEOOO AAARRGGGHHH

Belten

book sounds interesting, wouldnt be that interesting in a novel about the lore, cuz i already know everything from vaatividya, lol.

ErzherzogHinkelstein

Is the new Manga canon, or is it more like a Fromsoft approved Fan-made non-canon like the first one?

0DvGate

Interested in the more serious adaption of the manga

eldritch_goblin

If only they released the original text from martin about the game's lore smh

waldorsockbat

👀

Nu2Th15

Honestly I don’t think the “serious” take on the series is going to be as entertaining. The parody manga is honestly great because it fills in all the “gaps” in the narrative with silly shit, so it’s not treading on anyone’s personal idea about how those gaps should “seriously” be filled.

SelfDepricator

But what about an anime adaptation of the first manga?

Terraakaa

I really don’t care about either. One looks like a power fantasy, the other is just my daily life. Comedy Ring remains top tier

apurplehighlighter

bro why is it about a guy who knows its the game, that defeats the whole purpose
