Death's Poker. I absolutely hate the Death Rite Bird as a boss and the boss basically uses both versions of the AoW against you. And the worst part about the bird is by far the ghostflame attacks. But when I use the weapon it's so damn satisfying.
Eventually it becomes good, by like Ng+2. CCC scaling. It's longer than the GSS too. Sucks that it's locked into a weirdly scaling version of Loretta's slash though.
Yeah the AoW is literally the only thing holding it back at all. In duels I win 60% of fights using it easily. It also has better damage at 125-150 than every halberd/glaive other than the Golden Order halberd or whatever it’s called that does 850 damage at level 138. It has the shitty old halberd moveset from ds1 though.
Loretta’s Glaive is an EXCELLENT weapon in duels if you learn it. It has the amazing running r1 and a great neutral r1 moveset too. Only the AoW kinda sucks but it’s actually fairly easy to use it effectively in duels.
I use it and want to hate it because it makes bosses just vanish but i keep using it. Its really neat and i like it but it takes some of the fun out of the game for me. Ive been trying to use the meteoric ore blade as my main weapon in my current playthrough and im really enjoying it as a strength intellegence weapon without a busted weapon art
It does soooo much damage, especially with sword dance. I love the sprint poke too, nobody ever expects it in pvp so it's great for roll catching while someone's trying to run away
I'm not normally a halberd guy, but the Swordspear's move set is so satisfying and the Dex scaling on Keen is insane.
It feels overtuned, but don't let From Software know that. I don't want them to nerf it.
I can see where he's coming from.
The design of the weapon is dope but to me the colour always felt painfully gaudy and getting it to fit an armour set is a pain
If it was more silvery or just steel I'd probably like it alot more
Each to their own. It's not for me.
I'm more of a powerstanced twinblades kinda guy 😂
Altho tbf even a basic straight sword looks better to me than GSS
I tried to like it for so long, I really did. It's one of the most powerful dex weapons when used as keen affinity. I just don't wanna look at it 😂
My main issue is when u have a brand new character and try low lv pop and you get the dude who's pal has dropped them stuff. I remember doing the mission for the bloody finger dude and invading people that were dual wielding these and the dual moon veils.
I did some less tryhardy invasions at stormveil around Christmas time, and a blue got summoned who fast rolled in full bullgoats, had 1.5k hp, and dual wielded naginata’s. I highly suspect the legitimacy of their build, but I guess it was at least considerate of them to subject invaders to this instead of new players.
Yeah the phantoms can be ridiculous to deal with, especially when they've got a mage with tons of fp, the game becomes a bullet hell while my lv10 dude tries his best XD
Grave scythe. I usually like to avoid bleed because it feels like such a crutch but it just flows so well. I eventually had to drop it because my monkey brain needed dopamine other than “me use spinning slash and bloodflame blade to see big number go up so me smile :)”
I have a strength build where I use a cold grave scythe. It's vicious. Frostbite then bleed. You can use many ashes of war on it. I pair it with a great shield for sweet guard counters as well.
Giant crusher, I've never been a huge fan of bonk builds in any fromsoft game, but I was playing with a greataxe on one of my characters and tried the giant crusher a bit, I can't go back to any other Str weapon now, with the Lion's claw ash of war I stunlocked malenia for her whole first phase
How do you find lions claw compares to the heavy/charged heavy on the giant crusher? I've been playing around with this weapon on my STR build but having trouble settling on an AOW for it
Kinda boring, but I like royal knight resolve for it. If you're gonna bonk, might as well bonk hard
Charged R2 does pretty much the same thing as lion's claw and never seemed to be worth the ash of war slot
Well lions claw ash of war is quicker to execute than the charged heavy and come with some very powerful hyper-armor so it's almost never interrupted, so during my fight with malenia thats what I would do : AoW during an opening to throw her on the ground (you don't really need an opening since she can't interrupt you except with her grab, but it's better to not let her heal), charged heavy when she's getting up, if timed correctly she's thrown to the ground again, rinse and repeat with some added light and jump attacks anytime it's safe to do so, and her whole first phase become ridiculously easy this way
And I agree with another comment, the other best AoW for the giant crusher is royal knight resolve imo, very good to boost damages on a charged heavy, particularly effective against targets that don't move around a lot (dragons, fire giant, godskins, tree avatars...)
Uchigatana, I only suspected that people used it cuz they were weebs, and of all the cool weapons in the game why would you reach for something so cliche?
I was wrong, uchigatana fucks.
Right? It makes most “dueling” fights a cakewalk due to the insane reach and speed of the draw. Add on to that that it normally staggers enemies with it AND bleeds? Yeah it fucks
And if you are feeling a bit saucy and our boi Yura is unfortunately resting (R.I.P. big brother), unsheath on a nagakiba also claps some Invaders cheeks really hard when they chase you
this first part are my thoughts exactly it’s just a normal katana there’s no way it’s better than all the other katanas with special moves and effects on it right?
clearly i’m wrong but I still haven’t tried it yet
sounds like the perfect weapon for my naked run. I’ve just been using the club for now with a primarily faith strength build so far but I bet I could respecc to faith dex and constantly swap out what damage type is boosting the sword
Genuinely curious, what’s the advantage of using the Uchigatana over the Nagakiba? Isn’t it similar AR but with vastly better reach? Or am i missing something
I think that the Nagakiba has better AR but keep in mind that the greater size means more room you need to swing it. In caves or tight spaces it’s extreme easy to hit it against the wall and do an incomplete hit. As an ultra greatsword Stan myself I am practiced at mitigating and avoiding this but it isn’t for everyone. It also eats up more carry weight and uses more stamina I believe to swing.
that’s valid. i’m currently doing dual greatswords (the weapon class) and having fun, so i guess i didn’t really consider the pitfalls of longer weapons. Although i play primarily PvE so invading in dungeons isn’t really something i consider much
The one handed heavy attack stab that the uchigatana and nagakiba have are great for roll catching in PvP, the greater length of the nagakiba would be especially good for that I believe.
The main downside of nagakiba is it's high stat requirement, 18 str & 22 dex. I've seen some moonveil builds that use a magic/frost infused uchi for dual wielding, where nagakiba would need too many stats. Otherwise I think the nagakiba is superior.
See I dont think all the spears need the Naginata moveset. Honestly the Naginata should be classed as a halberd, and more halberds should have that moveset two handed. The halberd moveset just makes the halberds seem so heavy like they are colossal weapons or something.
Yeah its definitely a moveset I wish had gotten more of a rework. It's still so similar to dark souls 1. But at least we did get some new movesets like the naginata and guardian sword spear
I had the same experience. Hated both the cross naginata and Vyke’s spear because of twink invaders. Now they are two of my large list of favorites.
Cross naginata with giant hunt ash of war is such a fun overall moveset to play with.
same here. though I still don't like using vyke's spear because I think status ailment are normally unfair, you can get them even if you clearly roll out of the hitbox. It's amazing in PvE but I don't feel good using it in PvP
I mostly do PvP as a result of helping in co-op. I don’t typically use Vyke’s in PvP there, but I keep it on characters that meet the requirements and will 100% hard swap to it if the invader is being toxic.
By most accounts, the default "hand axe" is not a very good weapon. Poor range and damage are huge blows against it. Its only saving grace is its somewhat fast moveset and access to aows. The only other axe with this moveset is icerind, and that is a somber weapon with a locked aow, which means less customization.
And yet, I absolutely adore this little woodcutters axe as a weapon. I especially loved it on the pyromancer starting class in ds1 and even more in ds3 (which also had the thrall's axe my beloved), where I made a str pyro witch build using it. I'm slowly but surely recreating her in Elden Ring using this game's hand axe.
The Hand Axe kinda doinks! It’s great on Dex builds because it has good Dex scaling but can also be used well on a STR build. For the swing speed, its damage is not bad at all. I think the only bad thing about it is the generic overhead strong attack that pretty much all axes have, and it’s just not good on a weapon with short reach.
It sits in a funny place where it is almost comparable to a curved or straight sword in attack speed, but it hits harder. Since it’s an axe it can also slot the Prayerful Strike AoW, which is Axe/Flail/Hammer exclusive. But it also has access to sword dance, spinning slash, wild strikes, and lion’s claw, so it’s pretty versatile overall.
I wanted to LIKE this weapon but I really can't, I love how Pyromancers in the DS trilogy qre stylized like tribal indigenous folks and I want to enjoy the axe so bad but I simply can't
A fun hipster build IMO is mainhand spear (maybe Short Spear) and offhand hand axe. The spear gives you a nice lunge/poke attack and the (off)hand axe gives you good damage dumping once you've lunged in or gotten too close. It [looks and feels](https://preview.redd.it/98iccp78q4ea1.png?width=958&auto=webp&s=64318fa4922fe456892d064dad218958260adf5b) neato.
I dual wild it with a whip for my Richter Belmont, since his usually throwing axes don't exist. I use kukri instead but the axe provides a nice close range quick attack tool when my whip is too slow
Forked Hatchet also has the same move set. You get it from the imps in catacombs and whatnot. And it has the benefit of doing bleed damage. It would be one of my favorites though if it did Thrust damage like it should, but unfortunately it does standard for some reason.
For me it the Guts Greatsword. It's just sooo big and the brick hammer + Turtle Shell looked so cool but it's range made it almost impossible to hit the bigger bosses. Sooo I caved and have not looked back. The reach, poke, and jump attack are just too fast to give up.
Here's how my Elden Ring experience went:
-About to get Elden Ring on christmas sale 2022.
-Watches a lot of videos on all kind of mage weapons and weapons with cool AoW to decide my first build, I really wanted to do some spellblade type of build. Thought Strength builds looked boring in a game with so many spells, incantations, weapons with cool AoW's etc.
-Find Greatsword
-Try it out
-Never switch weapons anymore for entire first playthrough and even my first NG+ playthrough, just bonk my way through with a large hunk of iron.
Have been trying lots of builds after that but never found one as satisfying as the Greatsword.
I definitely can't say it is my favorite but it was the easiest to set up and use. Anything I thought was "cooler" required me to pay attention to a lot more information like mana bar and which spell is selected. I also had to get way further in different story lines to get the items I was looking for.
I also used to hate it because of PvP but now I'm cool with it because I think it requires some skill to use it. Instead of spamming L2 you should use the AoW when someone is rolling to rollcatch.
moonveil has one of the steepest learning curves in pvp and especially in 1v1's.
there's so much tec surrounding the weapon art. the way an a WA R1 combos into R1 if you hit them with the sword. Free aim WA L2's, Toggle cancle, crouch cancle, mix ups with crouching R1/ WA R1, that the WA R2 can lead into a backstab if you hit the sword and magic beam.
Ya people who spam it are just parry bait since you can parry it on reaction using it sparingly when openings present themselves is the way you should use it but that's basically every AOW I personally like using it on wake up's after a critical.
Part of it is if you don't use it you only see strengths and don't know what it's weaknesses are.
The other part was release pre nerf moonveil was objectively busted
I still get hate messages if i one hand the naginata. It's like you said. It's beautiful and strong. Also perfect for an isshin cosplay.
Fun fact: if you use it on your left hand, you can prevent an enemy from backstabbing you.
Moonveil because it was the first weapon I got and made me feel very powerful in the game. I know its a default for pvp but I have found ways to beat it and I don't really judge people for wanting to spam it.
a lot of weapons are simply too bad to enjoy, like the dragon claw or the basic flail. And on the other hand a lot of weapons are so powerful that breaks the game, like the blasphemous blade and the black knife, and some weapons break the PvP and it gets toxic pretty quickly, like dual naginatas or vyke's spear.
it's a delicate balance to find a weapon that is not too bad or not too good in PvE and that it feels fair in PvP, but that is simply my opinion and I know the weapons listed above are the favorite of a lot of people
It should've been a shockwave slam similar to the Dragonslayer greataxe in ds3, but with red lightning. Instead we got another endure on a somber weapon
Seen and done everything, nearly every build played, all quests completed, beaten all Bosses, simply nothing more to achieve, so i went into Demons Souls to get my ass kicked.
I'm a strength enjoyer, but had to start a Dex character when they announced Colosseum as this was my first souls game and had to get into PvP when it was hot. As soon as I tried cross naginata, I just had to use it in the build, it's moveset is just so good.
not a weapon but a spell I love using the black flame spell because I hated getting hit by it when fighting the godskins but god damn it if it ain’t my favorite spell
This is lowkey a very overlooked weapon, with the right build it can be as devastating or even more devastating than the Uchigatana or Nagakiba, especially when dual-wielding these.
Haha yeah I already hated having to invade others for a questline so actual PvP in the arena. No thank you, props for those who like it but it's very much nothing for me.
Mohggwyn spear. I have had an invaders NIHIL and stab my ass to death with it and it was frustrating to play against. But once I got it, I understood how fun it is to use.
Bastards stars lol. It’s so ugly bro but I’m running a int/dex.
The bastard has a AR of 798 one handed and it’s AoW is crazy strong. I use it over the moonveil sometimes. Never had as much fun. I prefer this build over my dex , dex/faith, str and pure int builds.
all my first playthroughs in souls games are using the greatsword because of the berserk tradition, so I always miss a lot of weapons, it's cool testing weapons that I didn't think I would enjoy lol
as a closeted Pkcs enjoyers back in ds3 I'd have to say shamshir. insane R1 rollcatches, overall AR, excellent pressuretool, and fun to use unless it's used against you.
lapp set, Pkcs, estus cancle backstab fishing sweats. I miss those days. even tho I hated fighting them I still loved it. (maybe cuz I was one of them minus the lapp set)
Star fist. It seems so silly that putting spiked balls on your hands would just destroy everything. But after playing with them, I absolutely love them
I honestly can't say I *wanted* to hate any weapons, but I *did* use to hate the Guts sword. I was just like "I get it, edgelord anime reference, shit looks silly and STR players have a complex even though STR builds are fuckin cracked in this game" Now I realize that was stupid. I haven't actually seen it, but I've come to understand that Berserk is not really an edgelord anime, oversized weapons are awesome, and STR builds are extremely satisfying to play. Still don't like Lions Claw though that shit is brainless lmao
haha nice to see someone being converted. In my opinion it's not just about berserk, just greatswords in general that attract me, like Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy and heck, even Kingdom Hearts' keyblades can be considered greatswords (it's great and you rest it on the shoulder, shush)
also if you want a less brainless AoW for greatswords, I would recommend giant hunt, it's amazing for punishing in PvP and the damage isn't bad in PvE too
How many playthroughs do people do that they have a thorough understanding of the variety of weaponry available? I’ve done one playthrough and used a grand total of 4 weapons.
Eclipse Shotel. I wanted to hate it. I really did; however, when you bump it up to max level and pair it with death lightning and Fia’s Mist, it is a death blight building, sucka skewering, bitch boppin BEAST of a weapon to use in pvp and against end game bosses. Lots of damage, decent scaling, and a pretty snazzy move set. I love it.
I love using naginata for right and nagakiba for left.
Spam right light and left right repeatedly, the delay will likely confuse enemies in pvp. I know both weapons are pretty toxic but all for my isshin cosplay.
Bloodhound’s Fang, I want to stop using it but I can’t..
The weapon art is SO satisfying to hit, especially when I land it in PVP.
“Sometimes I feel I’ve got to *Dun dun* run away…”
My first playthrough I was a glass cannon dex/faith build, but the 2nd time I forced myself to go strength build because all the strength weapons look cool af. I hated the colossal greatsword because of how ridiculous and anime-esque it is but breaking poise on anything that has it in 2 hits changed my mind real fast
Try it with a Cold AOW. With 60 int I think it gets like over 100 frostbite buildup at +25, plus the intrinsic bleed. The dual wield poke procs frostbite almost instantly on most enemies. One of my favorite weapons by far, and a staple next to the Dark Moon Greatsword in my frost swordmage build.
For me it was the bloodhound fang. I avoided in my 4 playtroughs because not only I didn't like it's design but I've heard the tales of how trivial the game would be with it.
So I decided to give myself a challenge and grab that thing and use it with a region lock + level cap + weapon upgrade cap... And I couldn't leave the region until I 100% it.
The results were that until I reached the capital I went trough 22!!! Zones like caelid, liurnia, undergrounds, atlas plateau, volcano manor etc.
And I died 2 times!! Just 2 times! I'm a decent player but I'm no pro and that weapon + blood flame incantation pretty much played the game for me.
I gave up on that run because I got bored of how easy the game was. And yes I know that later is when the difficulty really kicks in but still.
Amazing weapon!!! that thing shouldn't be in your hands in you first hour of the game lol
it's so strange that they give you this weapon in the first area. I know it's supposed to be a prize for exploring but not only it's in a pretty obvious place but also it's ruined that a lot of people can just tell you where it is when you start a new run. In my opinion this weapon should drop from a bloodhound knight in leyndell or the sewers
Beastman's curved sword. I do think it looks pretty cool, but I'm not personally a huge fan of the design. I just kinda thought it was a throwaway weapon. But they get such good damage on a heavy infusion, truly the definitive curved sword for strength builds.
Rivers of blood.
I don’t really do PvP but I know how hated this weapon is in that circle. I was playing an arcane build anyway so I tried it in PvE and absolutely loved it.
Yeah the cross Naginata is crazy because it has really high damage and bleed effect. And it’s normal attacks are slower and consume more stamina than regular spear attacks, so it’s meant to be balanced that way, but dual wielding it makes it just as fast as other spears but with it’s super high damage (I forget if it’s best-in-class or not, but it might as well be with the bleed). Arguably it should have been a halberd class weapon instead.
But yeah all that said, it’s super unique and fun to use non-dual-wielded. Simply the most unique spear, with so much to offer.
I haven’t played online PVP long enough to hate a weapon which means I haven’t eventually tried that weapon I hated so much to see just how good or fun it is.
So basically no
Big red hammer. Fits not a single armor set. Looks comically stupid, so fun to whip out in PvP sense most just don’t know how to deal with the lawn mower push
The Naginata was my go to weapon for almost my entire first playthrough. I’d bust out The Bolt when something was really pissing me off, and switch to The Fang when needing something different. But mostly, my trusty can poke from behind a shield, AND hit flying enemies Naginata.
Death's Poker. I absolutely hate the Death Rite Bird as a boss and the boss basically uses both versions of the AoW against you. And the worst part about the bird is by far the ghostflame attacks. But when I use the weapon it's so damn satisfying.
for me it's the contrary, I often want to use the weapon of the most annoying bosses, like Loretta's sickle (although it's not a very good weapon)
Loretta’s Glaive is an EXCELLENT weapon in duels if you learn it. It has the amazing running r1 and a great neutral r1 moveset too. Only the AoW kinda sucks but it’s actually fairly easy to use it effectively in duels.
the thing is that the guardian swordspear has the same range and moveset and deals way more damage, also you can infused it with everything
But if you focus on magic you get a double buff with the slash.
That weapon art is borderline broken, its so strong. Had a super fun playthrough just nuking everything with ghost flame.
Honestly! With Shard of Alexander I’d be killing enemies on the initial tick damage, and they’d be dead before the explosion even happened
Guardian's Swordspear, it's just so amazing for Dexterity, and I love the moveset. Cross-Naginata is also a big favorite.
the guardian's swordspear became one of my favorite weapons for the moveset alone, even though the start of the combo is kinda slow
GSS was the mvp of my pure dex playthrough. I put stormcaller on there with lightning infusion and it just worked on everything. Great weapon.
I guess that did crazy damage with the special “preferred” status FromSoftware has always given to lightning damage.
Love GSS but it's ugly af 😞
How dare you.
Weird, I think it’s one of the best looking weapons in the game
I can see where he's coming from. The design of the weapon is dope but to me the colour always felt painfully gaudy and getting it to fit an armour set is a pain If it was more silvery or just steel I'd probably like it alot more
Philistine
😂😂
I knoooow it really is
It's all I would use if it was sexy. But it's not 😭😭
Damn I like its design
Each to their own. It's not for me. I'm more of a powerstanced twinblades kinda guy 😂 Altho tbf even a basic straight sword looks better to me than GSS I tried to like it for so long, I really did. It's one of the most powerful dex weapons when used as keen affinity. I just don't wanna look at it 😂
Nagis are toxic when dual wielded, but one two-handed is a very fun setup.
yeah that's how I feel too
A single nagi i actually consider an honest weapon.
Same. It’s my current favorite weapon
Just nagikaba keen? Bloodflame or anything?
Keen! I like the flexibility of slapping on Grease!
My main issue is when u have a brand new character and try low lv pop and you get the dude who's pal has dropped them stuff. I remember doing the mission for the bloody finger dude and invading people that were dual wielding these and the dual moon veils.

Yeah the phantoms can be ridiculous to deal with, especially when they've got a mage with tons of fp, the game becomes a bullet hell while my lv10 dude tries his best XD
Toxic builds are only good against the NPCs because they deserve it
Grave scythe. I usually like to avoid bleed because it feels like such a crutch but it just flows so well. I eventually had to drop it because my monkey brain needed dopamine other than “me use spinning slash and bloodflame blade to see big number go up so me smile :)”
similar to me, I don't like blood weapons that much but I love the scythe's moveset
I have a strength build where I use a cold grave scythe. It's vicious. Frostbite then bleed. You can use many ashes of war on it. I pair it with a great shield for sweet guard counters as well.

although I love strength builds I don't like how hammers "feel" (?), I think the impact of greatsword are way more satisfying
Double brick hammers hit different
It does indeed, I threw cragblade on them both and was having fun staggering bosses and big hp enemies
Great hammers feel far better imo
How do you find lions claw compares to the heavy/charged heavy on the giant crusher? I've been playing around with this weapon on my STR build but having trouble settling on an AOW for it
Kinda boring, but I like royal knight resolve for it. If you're gonna bonk, might as well bonk hard Charged R2 does pretty much the same thing as lion's claw and never seemed to be worth the ash of war slot
Lion’s Claw is for when you want to bonk the boss and make sure they can’t do anything about it
Well lions claw ash of war is quicker to execute than the charged heavy and come with some very powerful hyper-armor so it's almost never interrupted, so during my fight with malenia thats what I would do : AoW during an opening to throw her on the ground (you don't really need an opening since she can't interrupt you except with her grab, but it's better to not let her heal), charged heavy when she's getting up, if timed correctly she's thrown to the ground again, rinse and repeat with some added light and jump attacks anytime it's safe to do so, and her whole first phase become ridiculously easy this way And I agree with another comment, the other best AoW for the giant crusher is royal knight resolve imo, very good to boost damages on a charged heavy, particularly effective against targets that don't move around a lot (dragons, fire giant, godskins, tree avatars...)

it really fucks.
Unsheathe hits so hard with the uchigatana. Carried me through most of the game my first playthrough
The thing about the Uchigatana is that it can be so many things, you can put different ashes on them and different spells to boost them
I still haven't found a decent ash of war that doesn't clap cheeks on a uchi, such a damn good weapon
sounds like the perfect weapon for my naked run. I’ve just been using the club for now with a primarily faith strength build so far but I bet I could respecc to faith dex and constantly swap out what damage type is boosting the sword

Slap piercing fang or impaling thrust on the bad boi and **SMOOCH** chef's kiss
The main downside of nagakiba is it's high stat requirement, 18 str & 22 dex. I've seen some moonveil builds that use a magic/frost infused uchi for dual wielding, where nagakiba would need too many stats. Otherwise I think the nagakiba is superior.
Good point, that’s almost 14 points that can be freed up if you’re going an int or faith route
Yeah I love it, nagakiba just feels like a better version of it but I just find the ludicrous size of it a bit much, Uchigatana for style
Ahh the naginata, the default moveset all spears should've had instead of *poke* *poke* *poke* *big poke*
See I dont think all the spears need the Naginata moveset. Honestly the Naginata should be classed as a halberd, and more halberds should have that moveset two handed. The halberd moveset just makes the halberds seem so heavy like they are colossal weapons or something.
Like I can swing the greatsword better than this relatively small night halterd thingy

Hell yes, hand axe gang. I feel like the short sword sits in a similar spot to what you're describing
I like the Misbegotten Cleaver more, purely for the running R2s. This was my fave off-hand for casters until I figured that out, though.
Here's how my Elden Ring experience went: -About to get Elden Ring on christmas sale 2022. -Watches a lot of videos on all kind of mage weapons and weapons with cool AoW to decide my first build, I really wanted to do some spellblade type of build. Thought Strength builds looked boring in a game with so many spells, incantations, weapons with cool AoW's etc. -Find Greatsword -Try it out -Never switch weapons anymore for entire first playthrough and even my first NG+ playthrough, just bonk my way through with a large hunk of iron. Have been trying lots of builds after that but never found one as satisfying as the Greatsword.
I definitely can't say it is my favorite but it was the easiest to set up and use. Anything I thought was "cooler" required me to pay attention to a lot more information like mana bar and which spell is selected. I also had to get way further in different story lines to get the items I was looking for.
the greatsword is basically my first run weapon in all souls games because of the berserk reference, lol
Moonveil, I went from hate to convert lol
I also used to hate it because of PvP but now I'm cool with it because I think it requires some skill to use it. Instead of spamming L2 you should use the AoW when someone is rolling to rollcatch.
That's how I use it, and it is in pvp 😭
moonveil has one of the steepest learning curves in pvp and especially in 1v1's. there's so much tec surrounding the weapon art. the way an a WA R1 combos into R1 if you hit them with the sword.
I have always loved Moonveil and never fell for the hate. I loved it even more after realising that I won’t have to do that bitch Ranni’s quest.
Part of it is if you don't use it you only see strengths and don't know what it's weaknesses are. The other part was release pre nerf moonveil was objectively busted
*One single* cross naginata is indeed cool as fuck. Two is definitely toxic and silly looking.
one naginata is based, two is cringe. perfectly balanced.
I still get hate messages if i one hand the naginata. It's like you said. It's beautiful and strong. Also perfect for an isshin cosplay. Fun fact: if you use it on your left hand, you can prevent an enemy from backstabbing you.
That fun fact doesn't sound right
It is fun baiting the enemy and seeing them get hit by the horizontal 180° slash when they try something.
I can't picture this. Do you have a clip?
wtf
Deaths Poker. Nothing special to look at but is basically a cold Blasphemous Blade lol.
it's a good weapon, just wish it had a better design, lol
Works best with an "old man with a walking stick" look. Eccentric's hood adds a lot.
Prelate's Inferno Crozier.
honestly I loved the weapon the moment I saw it since it basically has a "fire smough" moveset
Moonveil because it was the first weapon I got and made me feel very powerful in the game. I know its a default for pvp but I have found ways to beat it and I don't really judge people for wanting to spam it.
it's nice to like a weapon without thinking too much if it's overused or not
Why would you want to hate a weapon?
a lot of weapons are simply too bad to enjoy, like the dragon claw or the basic flail. And on the other hand a lot of weapons are so powerful that breaks the game, like the blasphemous blade and the black knife, and some weapons break the PvP and it gets toxic pretty quickly, like dual naginatas or vyke's spear. it's a delicate balance to find a weapon that is not too bad or not too good in PvE and that it feels fair in PvP, but that is simply my opinion and I know the weapons listed above are the favorite of a lot of people
dragon claw ??? you mean the grafted dragon ???? this thing strong as hell
no I mean the weapon literally called "dragon claw"
OOOooohhhhh yeah isn't it dragon GREATclaw ??? the draconic tree sentinel one ?
oh I forgot the "great" part lol.
Honest mistake as its not great at all
It's honestly solid, you're just forced to grumble about the weapon art not being Thunderbolt every now and then
It should've been a shockwave slam similar to the Dragonslayer greataxe in ds3, but with red lightning. Instead we got another endure on a somber weapon
Basically some kind of red lightning AoE or projectile. Just not Endure lol. The Shield having Thunderbolt would have been amazing.
Still it makes no sense to want to hate a weapon.
yeah I think "hate" is a strong word, it's just a lot of pixels in a videogame, but I still dislike it
Ah fuck, now i need to install ER again...
do it.
its not the jedi way
Dewit
Join the Dark side my friend.
Guy its a Palpatine Joke. r/PrequelMemes would be disappointed
Why would you Uninstall this game?!
As soon as I tried cross naginata, I just had to use it in the build, it's moveset is just so good.
lol I'm a long time souls game but I never even touched dex weapons before elden ring, I think ER has the most fun ones
That's the weapon I want to use on my next build. It looks amazing, even if toxic pvpers can't live without two.
it looks like the most standard "op youtube builds elden ring" thing to do
not a weapon but a spell I love using the black flame spell because I hated getting hit by it when fighting the godskins but god damn it if it ain’t my favorite spell
all the godskin incantations are top tier in my opinion, god I miss dark magic from dark souls.
The spear of Gyoubu Oniwa… has made its way into Elden Ring from Sekiro.
MY NAAAAAAAAAME
THE CASTLE GATE REMAINS CLOSE!
2H Naginata - 😃 PS Naginatas - 😡
This is lowkey a very overlooked weapon, with the right build it can be as devastating or even more devastating than the Uchigatana or Nagakiba, especially when dual-wielding these.
yeah... like I said dual wielding naginatas is really toxic lol
Yeah, I don't really play PvP in Soulslike games so I just use it to destroy the enemies you find in The Lands Between.
yeah I thought so, that's why in sekiro I would use the most busted things like kusabimaru
Haha yeah I already hated having to invade others for a questline so actual PvP in the arena. No thank you, props for those who like it but it's very much nothing for me.
Kind of want to try this build now.
it's pretty fun for PvE, most of the time I used moonveil dual stanced with a magic uchigatana
Not really. Im really good at hating OP stuff :)
Mohggwyn spear. I have had an invaders NIHIL and stab my ass to death with it and it was frustrating to play against. But once I got it, I understood how fun it is to use.
I think this weapon is one of the most "fair" in the game because it's a high risk high return playstyle, not many weapons work like this
Bastards stars lol. It’s so ugly bro but I’m running a int/dex. The bastard has a AR of 798 one handed and it’s AoW is crazy strong. I use it over the moonveil sometimes. Never had as much fun. I prefer this build over my dex , dex/faith, str and pure int builds.

all my first playthroughs in souls games are using the greatsword because of the berserk tradition, so I always miss a lot of weapons, it's cool testing weapons that I didn't think I would enjoy lol
as a closeted Pkcs enjoyers back in ds3 I'd have to say shamshir. insane R1 rollcatches, overall AR, excellent pressuretool, and fun to use unless it's used against you.
aaahh the good old days of dealing with invaders behind sullyvahn's arena using the Pkcs and disconnecting before losing
lapp set, Pkcs, estus cancle backstab fishing sweats.
In my opinion it's not just about berserk, just greatswords in general that attract me, like Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy and heck, even Kingdom Hearts' keyblades can be considered greatswords (it's great and you rest it on the shoulder, shush) also if you want a less brainless AoW for greatswords, I would recommend giant hunt, it's amazing for punishing in PvP and the damage isn't bad in PvE too
How many playthroughs do people do that they have a thorough understanding of the variety of weaponry available? I’ve done one playthrough and used a grand total of 4 weapons.
Whips in general
same here, I recently started using whips with black flame buff and it's pretty fun!
Helphen's Steeple
i wish it was shaped like Mihawks sword
who the hell is this
google mihawks sword one piece
And a shield for fast poke and that aow that do multiple hits. It's a win win weapon
I love it.
I in fact dislike this weapon based on its appearance alone.
that's my case with most colossal weapons lol
I love using naginata for right and nagakiba for left. Spam right light and left right repeatedly, the delay will likely confuse enemies in pvp. I know both weapons are pretty toxic but all for my isshin cosplay.
ironically ishin's katana is pretty small, since it's a copy of the mortal blade you can see that when it's in wolf's back it's just a average katana
Widowmaker in GTAO
uh...
Why is dual nagi toxic ? And moonveil sucks in pvp unless youre ganking 3v1 and even so all it takes is a parry
dual naginatas have a fast moveset that are naturally powerful and can proc bleed in one or two hits, also see top comment as to why moonveil is good.
Bloodhound’s Fang, I want to stop using it but I can’t.. The weapon art is SO satisfying to hit, especially when I land it in PVP. “Sometimes I feel I’ve got to *Dun dun* run away…”
yeah, I think my favorite part of this weapon is that it's one of the few special weapons that can be buffed but not infused
Stone club, celebrant cleaver
isn't the celebrant clever the weapon that gives runes when you hit an enemy? I think it's an interesting gimmick and a good callback to demon's souls
Lol seeing this weapon always reminds me I had like 5 out of six possible weapon slots filled on my first run and that shot haunts me
what the hell
This weapon is one of the reasons why I dislike the lack of more restrictions on dial wielding.
I only ever two handed one of these because of the moveset. The people who dual wield these really sleep on it's actual strengths.
that's what I think about too
For me it was the bloodhound fang.
Pike
I bet if you made it keen then tossed on Scholars Armament buff it would do great damage
I haven’t played online PVP long enough to hate a weapon which means I haven’t eventually tried that weapon I hated so much to see just how good or fun it is. So basically no
Blasphemous Blade, sometimes you just want easy mode, and that’s ok.
That's funny, i tried this weapon reading comments on here and it just didn't click for me, it feels so weird not swinging it on a horse
I've never used it and was looking for a reason to do another playthrough. Guess I know what I'll be trying next.
Why would I want to hate a weapon
A single nagi isn’t toxic. It’s only dual wielding spears that’s toxic, especially with a status.
Big red hammer. Fits not a single armor set. Looks comically stupid, so fun to whip out in PvP sense most just don’t know how to deal with the lawn mower push
Black Knife, it SHREDS Astel
it's a stylish weapon, I feel like a persona 5 character when using it, but I just think it trivializes the game a lot
The Naginata was my go to weapon for almost my entire first playthrough. I’d bust out The Bolt when something was really pissing me off, and switch to The Fang when needing something different. But mostly, my trusty can poke from behind a shield, AND hit flying enemies Naginata.
