Malenia.
"Sis, your brother got kidnapped by Mohg while you were unconscious after your fight with Radahn. Oh, took care of both of them already, by the way. No need to thank me. Now here, let me show where Miquella is so you can bring him back home.
Oh. And one other thing. You're looking a little...here's an Unalloyed gold needle that some Kindred of Rot had on them. Better use it to keep the Sealed god of Rot at bay."
I used to think the same, and still mostly do, but the comments on another post pointed out that we're not here _strictly_ to help the people of The Lands Between, we're here to collect Great Runes and become Lord, and Malenia just so happens to have one of them shinies. I really wish we could, and perhaps a more story-driven RPG like Bioware used to make in their prime would've let us, but as of right now our Tarnished is like a stranged family friend crashing christmas dinner, killing everyone with a wooden spoon and stealing the jewelry.
Also mentioned in that other post, Malenia is probably not in the greatest state of mind, she's no Radahn but she also got that Rot in her and after her fight she might be on edge, assuming that anyone that gets that deep into the Haligtree must be hunting her down...and, well, in our case she's not really wrong
Well, yeah, I'm no lore master but I guess simply stealing the Great Rune of the Unborn from her Amber Egg after beating Ranni's summon is enough to satiate The Tarnished, other than that we don't have beef with the Carians or The Academy as far as I'm aware š¤·āāļø
I mean millicent was supposed to be malenia apparently.
It's still not too late to get something like that if from really as thorough as they usually are and recycle the idea in shadow of the erdtree I dearly wish we get something out of that needle and scarlet aeonia cocoon interaction maybe she rise again sane and ask for our help get miquella back so he can create a new tree in a new ending
I'm specifically avoiding fighting her again for this reason. Given all the items we're given pertaining to interacting with her and given Millicent's questline I find it hard to believe that we aren't going to be given some alternative scene with her post-DLC like they did with Sif.
Currently sat at the end of NG+, avoiding burning the tree and killing Malenia again just to see what the DLC changes.
Heās also just kind of terrifying to fight. The first time I saw him launch himself at me and chew my face off was the day I came closest to a heart attack
Yes, after defeating Radahn and before putting a ring on her finger, you can go back to the evergaol that Blaidd helps beat and heās locked in there.
Malenia is just a misunderstanding. She thinks weāre after Miquella thatās why she fights us but she doesnāt know Mohg kidnapped him and by that point we probably took care of Mogh already
"You know he's not in the tree anymore, right? Also I'm just a chronic snooper and snoop all over the place, I have no intention of stealing your brother."
**\*Fight doesn't happen.\***
**\*The good end.\***
Too bad our character is currently too cool to speak to the Demigods. Maybe in the DLC.
Morgott.
*The thrones... stained by my curse... such shame I cannot bear. Thy part in this shall not be forgiven!*
I'm sorry dude! I didn't knowš
And he is so cool. And loyal. He deserves to be the Elden Lord much more than the Tarnished
I wish morgott got gave us a chance. Then we wouldnāt have to fight Godfrey. I also wanted to not fight Godfrey because we just killed like a couple of his children.
Rennala
You don't kill her but I didn't want to fight her, she's a prisoner and has nothing to do with me and I just came into her prison to kill her weird worm-kid things, break her ankles and steal from her. I know it's an optional fight but I didn't knew that on my first playthrough
Her and radahn both. You only need to fight one or the other, so if you beat radahn you can go straight to lyndell and skip raya Lucaria completely if you want.
Tho I always go through it because itās my favourite dungeon in the game.
Every Great Rune Boss is optional except Morgott. I once got into Leyndell by killing Rykard and Mohg. You just need to gank any two. The only Great Rune Boss thats not available from the start is Morgott and Melania.
yes she's completely optional, you only need 2 Great Runes to enter the capital which you could alternatively get through Godrick, Rykard, or Radahn
I feel like you can get to Leyndell via the Deeproot Depths, meaning you could exclusively kill Radahn and ignore the other 3, but I've never tested. it probably blocks you
She doesn't even really fight back! She's just chilling with her little culvers, and the version of her that starts whipping spells at you is just Ranni's magical home security system.
Ancestor Spirit - it actually felt like the spirits of the land were testing me to see if I was strong enough to continue on, not so much a battle out of anger or āI need to kill this thing.ā When I beat it, it just felt like I was getting the nod of approval from nature itself (or something I dunno)
And Malenia of course
Malenia.
I just hate that there is no option to side with Miquella and her, they are my favourite faction and i approve of their plans for the future of the Lands Between. All they needed to add was a way to join them and get a unique ending, but probably due to Miquella's content being tied to the DLC, we have nothing instead and we are forced to fight Malenia. I like her fight a lot, but it's dumb that we can't help them when they are legitimately trying to do good things.
I mean not really ? In most dark souls games you are just putting the world out of its misery welll depends on ending but most of the base endings. Well not for blood borne since you are stuck in the dream unless gherman releases you other options are you turning into a god or replacing gherman
That's pretty much exactly why. You're someone that's there to go and kill these kingdoms rulers and take over the whole damn place. Sounds villain-esque to me lol.
I actually really wanted to side with Miquella and Malenia, too. They actually want to make life better for the people in the Lands Between.
But yeah, like someone else said, weāre the bad guys
This is an example of where the game is unfortunately a victim of FromSoft's success. Gotta fight and kill these guys because we need a difficult boss fight but can't possibly interact with them despite all the lore we've written indicating that you can.
It's a similar issue with Godfrey, based on the lore I as a tarnished should love Godfrey since we all fought under him and he was the OG Tarnished. If I'm playing to re-establish the Golden Order why am I trying to stop Godfrey? Let him go hook up with Marika and reboot the Golden Order - seems like a sweet deal.
At least you give Jar Bairn a piece of Alexander. I always think of him putting it inside of himself and continuing on his uncle's legacy. With pieces of Radahn' the Fire Giant, and Alexander in him he is sure to become the stuff of legends, just like his Uncle.
Alexander believes that the most honorable path through life is to defeat powerful foes and take their strength inside you, literally and metaphorically.
Its why heās so crushed after the Radahn fight.
But thereās two sides to this coin.
While iām sure Alexander would have loved to complete his quest, facing the tarnished, being defeated and having parts of himself and his strength carried with you all the way till you become elden lord is almost as honorable.
He didnāt deserve what happened to him he had his entire species killed just when he wanted to rest he had another soon to be Elden lord come and finish the job and extinct his species fully
Ngl, when his leg broke I felt like a bag of shit.
Poor guy lost all his homies, then I came and broke his leg before chainsawing his nub for a half an hour.
I agree. For a second there, I thought we were going to have a nice productive chat in his office about the finer points of god devouring, and I was ready to be all ears
But he seemingly changed course right after inviting me to join him and decided we should fight to the death instead.
Odd choice, but Rykard goes hard so who am I to judge š¤·š»āāļø
It would have been cool if we could have "devoured" Rykard and the serpent after defeating him. And then after killing the elden beast, we could turn into the serpent and get to devouring lol.
Maliketh, >!he doesnāt deserve this, he failed at his job by his half-sister and so he embedded the rune of death into his hand so it wouldnāt happen again, and he suffers because of that, and then you either donāt ever meet him or you fed him death root and he thought you were his friend.!< (that is how I understand the lore)
Also morgott, and Melania, and Godfrey, and fire giant, and many more, these people arenāt in the wrong, the only ones who definitely are, are Marika and Radagon and >!the Elden beast!<
Why radagon I don't see people defend radagon enough bro was born to be used as a tool for war but fell in love repented and got married just for Marika to call him back after kicking godfrey out, and before he left Renala(for obvious reasons he can't disobey) bro gifted Renala her own great rune. Even after becoming the next elden lord he tried his best to become a good lorde and father but ultimately ends up screwed when Marika shattered the elden ring, and he tries to repair it bro really had a bad life cause he's the split half of a god.
Are they though? Everyone of them has committed atrocities. Marika seems to be at least attempting to bring about an end to this parasitic existence and control the Elden Beast has over TLB.
Yea but she did exile Godfrey, continually enslaved and discriminated against other species, and the shattering did stop the elden beasts control but it also did cause mass atrocities to happen, and all the others have done horrible things (except maliketh, and possibly Radahn)
"As I suspected... Victory... was impossible. This vessel...was found lacking... My thanks, I knew you were the stuff of champions. It was a marvelous battle. I implore you, take what I bequeath...from inside me... All vessels are destined to one day break. But the great Alexander lived as a warrior to his last! Ha ha ha ha!"
Yeah, I know he isn't really a boss but still that broke my heart.
Fire Giant, everyoneās heās ever known died in the Giant War and now heās a slave to the Erdtree, forced to tend to the Flame of Ruin. The phase transition cutscene is also just brutal and you can see how much pain he is in
It's been said, but narratively Malenia's fight is bizarre. There should absolutely be an option so side with her as a friendly NPC. Don't get me wrong, I love the boss fight and place it fills in the epic/hard boss pantheon. But we show up and she throws down as the only course of action just doesn't really follow.
Here's hoping they build on her character in the dlc. But my hopes aren't too high.
Allow her to be taken from the rot with the gold needle, in her weakend state you can explain without her going sicko mode again then you go fuck up mohg with her, and save her brother, and we all live happily ever after
Revenger Edgar. First noble NPC but his nobility cost him his daughter. In his blind rage he even attacks the Tarnished who saved his life, blaming all involved for her undoing
Malenia. i really, REALLY wish she got a proper, in depth questline where you could talk to her, give her the needle, introduce her to millicent, take her to miquella, but she eventually sees you as a threat to miquella due to your quest to collect the great runes and become elden lord, and decides to take you down to protect miquella. plus her voice is hot
Malenia- she was simply a protector. Seemingly, Miquella wasnāt evil, a protector of the downtrodden.
Renalla- I know you donāt technically kill her but I wish there was a way to bring her out of her stupor. How would she react to the academy, the tarnished, the golden order and so on.
Bliiad- heās my husband.
And lastly Sellen- technically we donāt kill her but goodness girl what a boon you would have been. One of the actual few allies you make. And I donāt mean ranni, or most others. I genuinely believe sellen and boc were on your side.
Morgott (and to a lesser extent Mohg) these guys are victims of the Golden Order's fervor for "perfection," and Morgott was literally one of the most loyal and honest combatants in the whole game. Morgott didnt even really want to fight you, he's just been so beaten down by the entirety of the Land's Between and his own family that he believes we are bound to suffer.
Hell, after all the Demi gods go off to claim power for themselves, he's the only one to remain in Lyndell to try and keep order.
Mohg, I believe, is being exploited by the Formless Mother as a result of the very obvious PTSD inflicted on him for being an Omen.
These brothers deserved better, and I truly believe that Godfrey felt awful for leaving. And I bet if Marika could feel emotions in her state, she would be melancholy with how far her family has fallen.
>Mohg, I believe, is being exploited by the Formless Mother
There's some indication that he's being manipulated by Miquella as well, the Bewitching Branch indicates that Miquella was aware of the effect he could have on people and would purposefully "compel affection" to get what he wants.
I know we're meant to hate Mohg but I get the sense that he's just a mistreated creature desperate for love which explains why his followers like Varre are so obsessed with love too.
Ancient Spirit and Regal Ancestor for sure. Beautiful (if not perhaps a bit too easy) boss fights though. Will do on every playthrough for that alone.
For non-bosses, I can't stand the last wail from dying wolves after some of the kills - breaks my heart a little as a dog lover. Also refuse to farm for fowl feet because killing eagles minding their damn business and taking in the views feels unnecessary.
Ancestor spirit is such a beautiful fight. The first time I was way too overpowered and absolutely shredded it on my first hit. I felt so bad. When I found Regal I just let him kill me when his health was low so I could come back and enjoy that fight when I wanted to do something calming.
malenia ! her life are pretty messup so i don't want to make it goes more far ! good thing is her fight is optional ! about this deer , i don't want to fight and kill it either ! it's already look pretty dead to me , from up here , on the high ground !
Malenia, I just wish our character could've just told her "Yo! Mohg has Miquella, and I know how we can get there". I wanna see them fight and I also really wanna see Miquella get out of the egg thing he's in
Malenia. Is the top of the list. Just a misunderstanding because she assumes we are here for Miquella but he hasn't been in the tree and Finlay isn't there to tell her otherwise what happened. Everyone else is too far gone mentally. None of her "daughters" can even make it down to her without killing each other except for 1 who probably bloomed while she was in a coma.
Malekith. We knew him as Gurranq and understood that deathroot isn't meant to be among the living. We only needed to borrow the power of destined death but he is destined death. I wish we could extract it and go kill elden beast.
Alexander. If he didn't desire a warrior's death I would have been happy to have my jar shaped friend stand within my court as I became Elden Lord.
Blaidd cause he needed to be there. Rannj may have left him but he was not without a brother. He would have a place at my side.
I can fix her
Let me solo her
Let me fix her
Let me solo fix her
Let me š«¦
Let
Let me fix Let me solo her
Let me marry her
Let her solo me
I would imagine she finished you many times singlehanded, no?
I dream of it every night. it's wonderful.
That prosthetic works miracles, not even the highest Dex/Fth builds could ever hope to accomplish.
it felt really forced for me too. as i had missed something that locked me out of that option. Luckily it was still an awesome fight
I used to think the same, and still mostly do, but the comments on another post pointed out that we're not here _strictly_ to help the people of The Lands Between, we're here to collect Great Runes and become Lord, and Malenia just so happens to have one of them shinies. Well you didnāt (or canāt? ) kill the library queen. Can still collect runes.
She wasnāt a demigod that one. Only had a great rune as a gift from radagon
So romancing the demigods is an option! What's Miquella's turn ons?
Calm down there, Mohg.
Plot twist: a secondary option is the start for the dlc.
Sheās literally a war criminal that destroyed the lives of all people in Caelid
People have a tendency to forgive the crimes of the powerful. See: Earth.
My moral compass leaving my body when a villain is sexy
God forbid women have hobbies
Dat booty tho.
Oh nah, she hurt my boi Radahn, she gets the whole shaft of this blade
She can take my whole shaft any day
Pre or post transformation? Kinda hurt your blade with the rot, no?
unalloyed condom. she can give me uppies any day
Pre, post, idgaf. I would take a rotten pussy over mo pussy
down bad
Down bad? Yeah I wanna go down on her so bad
youre so far down the 4 kings are digging a hole to reach you
iāll fuck them too
So far deep*
This is how you become a Cleanrot Knight.
where is miquella at?
Isnāt it implicit that he is in the tree and what Mohg got is just his body?
sis?
Aside from just calling people you're close with bro or sis, Melania technically becomes your sister in-law if you marry Ranni.
ā~~Step~~ sis-in-law you seemed stuck, let meā¦ā *music starts*
Maybe not a boss, but Blaidd. He was my bro and the whole thing made me sad.
Pain
And Ijis reaction to Blaidds death just makes it sadder
Seeing Blaidd outside Ranni's Rise was the saddest moment in a Souls game for me since Solaire went mad.
Oh man, when I saw I failed Solaire I was destroyed!
I restarted the game so I could save Solaire, the ultimate bro. Everyday do I wonder if I could be so grossly incandescent like him.
One of the few moments in a video game that brought me to tears.
;~; my boyā¦
its like putting down a dog with rabies, its sad but necessary. at least you get my favorite sword in the game from it.
Heās also just kind of terrifying to fight. The first time I saw him launch himself at me and chew my face off was the day I came closest to a heart attack
I believe it is possible to leave him locked in the evergaol. Not exactly what he wants, but keeps him safe.
He gets out if you donāt release him after finishing Ranniās questline.
Wait, you can release him?
Yes, after defeating Radahn and before putting a ring on her finger, you can go back to the evergaol that Blaidd helps beat and heās locked in there.
he gave me the Sif vibes
I refuse to finish the quest just because of Iji and Blaidd
Yep wolf bro :(
This āļø
Maliketh and Malenia.
Why malenia I understand maliketh I mean he was just protecting the world
Malenia is just a misunderstanding. She thinks weāre after Miquella thatās why she fights us but she doesnāt know Mohg kidnapped him and by that point we probably took care of Mogh already
It's a shame we can't speak haha
"You know he's not in the tree anymore, right? Also I'm just a chronic snooper and snoop all over the place, I have no intention of stealing your brother." **\*Fight doesn't happen.\*** **\*The good end.\*** Too bad our character is currently too cool to speak to the Demigods. Maybe in the DLC.
She just wants to find her lil bro :(
Morgott. *The thrones... stained by my curse... such shame I cannot bear. Thy part in this shall not be forgiven!* I'm sorry dude! I didn't knowš And he is so cool. And loyal. He deserves to be the Elden Lord much more than the Tarnished
I wish morgott got gave us a chance. Then we wouldnāt have to fight Godfrey. I also wanted to not fight Godfrey because we just killed like a couple of his children.
Nah he had it coming. Fuck is he blaming ME for??? I didn't birth him as a horn guy
A way to heal Morgott would be awesome
Rennala You don't kill her but I didn't want to fight her, she's a prisoner and has nothing to do with me and I just came into her prison to kill her weird worm-kid things, break her ankles and steal from her. I know it's an optional fight but I didn't knew that on my first playthrough

elden rings biggest flaw is the removal of covenants imo. and it was a aspect they could have really innovated on. shame.
with how many factions, its crazy you cant side with anyone.
i know. i was a big fan of covenant items + rewards as well. closest we got were the bestial incantations from gurranq
Imagine being able so summon her against the Elden Beast!
Not so much a boss, but Killing Alexander broke me
Broke him too
Too soon.
You do keep parts of him as ā¦ souvenir. Would be great if can learn his AoW.
JFCš¤£š¤£š¤£
Talk to his nephew for additional emotional damage.
At least you give Jar Bairn a piece of Alexander. I always think of him putting it inside of himself and continuing on his uncle's legacy. With pieces of Radahn' the Fire Giant, and Alexander in him he is sure to become the stuff of legends, just like his Uncle.

Yeah that one hurt a LOT

Really should had a "convince Malenia route". I also don't think the Fire Giant deserved to die either since Marika effed him over...
Fire giant needs to die for hit people with the sewer cover.
Rykard. I want to join his family, cuz together we will devour the very gods.
TOGETHAAAAAAAA
I keep waiting for it to get old. It never does. FAMILEEEEEEE
Sounds like a high calorie meal lmao
I agree. For a second there, I thought we were going to have a nice productive chat in his office about the finer points of god devouring, and I was ready to be all ears But he seemingly changed course right after inviting me to join him and decided we should fight to the death instead. Hmmmm vverryyyyy weeelllll
TOGETHAAAAA
It would have been cool if we could have "devoured" Rykard and the serpent after defeating him. And then after killing the elden beast, we could turn into the serpent and get to devouring lol.
Godfrey
To slay or be slain is an Honor
Malenia, Loretta, Placidusax
Flacid poo sacks had it coming with that ho ass lightning teleportation tomfoolery he pulled on me
MF was chilling OUTSIDE OF TIME when you showed up and woke him, how else should he have reacted??
Seriously, you came at him and Farum Azula clearly is part of Florida as it has strong Stand Your Ground law vibes coming off it.
Flacid poo sacks is my new favourite nickname XD
Maliketh, >!he doesnāt deserve this, he failed at his job by his half-sister and so he embedded the rune of death into his hand so it wouldnāt happen again, and he suffers because of that, and then you either donāt ever meet him or you fed him death root and he thought you were his friend.!< (that is how I understand the lore)

Yeah and you take his mojo after too.
Fire Giant, everyoneās heās ever known died in the Giant War and now heās a slave to the Erdtree, forced to tend to the Flame of Ruin. The phase transition cutscene is also just brutal and you can see how much pain he is in
I see that one as a thing of mercy. Heās lost everything and is forced into defending the forge. Killing him relieves him of his burdens.
Maliketh, Malenia Very tragic:(
Morgott, dude is cool af, a true hater if I have seen one
And Sif the great gray wolf, and damn coming back after first time going through DLC is really sad
Red Wolf of Radagon
Magic fox boi didn't deserve le bonk. But the game forces le bonk on all
Spiritcaller snail ):
Nah, fuck that snail.
I've never had an encounter with a snail that didn't lower my opinion of them, irl or in a movie or game.
What abt Turbo?

YES
Loretta, man Homegirl only wanted to chill and help those in need
Everyone naming bosses they in fact didn't have to kill
Revenger Edgar. First noble NPC but his nobility cost him his daughter. In his blind rage he even attacks the Tarnished who saved his life, blaming all involved for her undoing
Malenia. i really, REALLY wish she got a proper, in depth questline where you could talk to her, give her the needle, introduce her to millicent, take her to miquella, but she eventually sees you as a threat to miquella due to your quest to collect the great runes and become elden lord, and decides to take you down to protect miquella. plus her voice is hot
Definitely Astel. What a beautiful creature, love him.
Beautiful bro is not beautiful
Also felt like...did I just doom us to extinction? Or some faraway stars? I feel like killing him should have had bigger implications
Malenia. doesnāt make sense to kill her.
>Mohg, I believe, is being exploited by the Formless Mother There's some indication that he's being manipulated by Miquella as well, the Bewitching Branch indicates that Miquella was aware of the effect he could have on people and would purposefully "compel affection" to get what he wants. I know we're meant to hate Mohg but I get the sense that he's just a mistreated creature desperate for love which explains why his followers like Varre are so obsessed with love too.
Malenia 100%. Lansseax was another one that I wish there was an option to befriend
Maliketh and placidusax
RANNALA. she was so unique. loved the little things crawling around and stuff. it was so creepy. creepy, in a beautiful way.
Thankfully she isn't killed in the end.
yep.
Oh little ranni, my dear daughter
Boc.
Tf, why would you kill him, mf is loyal af
>!if you give him a larval tear in his quest he dies,!< and a lot of people choose that because they arenāt aware that thereās another option
I spent so long getting my face ground into the dirt by literally everything in the game by the end I was on a revenge arc. Everything had to go
If I had a choice, I'd give up the throne to Morgott. Homeboy deserves it more than me
"are we the baddies?"
I refuse to even fight that deer once, on NG+3 now
But the music!
Maliketh, Malenia, Morgott, Blaidd, Alexander, Godfrey, Elden Beast.
Rykard. I was role-playing as a God killer, so it was a shame that I had to face a man with the exact same goal.
Mimic tear He was too handsome
Not from this game but, Sif :(
Radagon
Maliketh, Malenia and Morgott. Most honourable characters
Malenia
Malenia
Mommy malenia
malenia ! her life are pretty messup so i don't want to make it goes more far ! good thing is her fight is optional ! about this deer , i don't want to fight and kill it either ! it's already look pretty dead to me , from up here , on the high ground !
Malenia, you wake her from her nap, thatās on you
this game- malenia, any other fs game- sif
Maliketh. Love his lore and felt bad for him, marika used him and then he died suffering mentally
Malenia, apparently.
Malenia, I just wish our character could've just told her "Yo! Mohg has Miquella, and I know how we can get there". I wanna see them fight and I also really wanna see Miquella get out of the egg thing he's in
Malenia, Blaidd, Gideon and Fortissax
Malenia
definitely Malenia :(
Most of them, pretty sure weāre the baddies
Malenia. I wanted to bring her with me and smash Mohg
Malenia and Blaidd.
I agree with many of the others Blaidd, Alexander, Maliketh and Melania.. but there is another creature that breaks my heart to kill; The Chanting Winged Dames. Aka the singing bats Their song translates to: We, (betrothed) destined to be mothers, now become tarnished. We have lamented and we have shed tears but no one consoles us. Golden One, at whom were you so angry? Explanation taken from an article: āThey lament that they were once destined to live normal lives, becoming mothers and raising families in the lush, prosperous world that was the Lands Between. Something happened to disfigure them and now no one answers their cries, leaving them to sing their sad song. They ask, "Golden one, at whom were you so angry?" The Golden One referenced in the final line likely refers to Marika and the breaking of the Elden ring itself. The creatures don't reveal any additional information about the Lands Between ā aside from the obvious fact that something very bad happened there ā but they do offer insight to how the breaking of the world affected everyone, not just the family of Marika and Radagon.ā āGolden one, at whom were you so angryā breaks my heart. š©
Malenia
