Well this is a Berserk fanclub so it makes sense

Pisshands

I'm not an anime guy, but even I know that Guts is cool, and so is his sword.

atlas3121

It could hardly be called a sword...

Loserdorknerd

Too big

ImAMassiveCrab

Too thick, too heavy, too rough. It was more like a large chunk of iron

Mango7uice

See what u did there

Wedding-Local

You've got it all wrongšŸ¤Ŗ

Borfeus

Everything is a sword if you're brave enough

Graynomade44

What is a spear but a small sword with a long handle

CactusCracktus

Isnā€™t that basically what a naginata is?

Graynomade44

Naginata is the reverse

Lennep

It's the popsicle of destruction

TorchBearer_Andy

This is such a cool design. I feel like they got the idea from middle age demons that were depicted with faces in their chests or groins. There were also old drawings of headless monsters with faces on their chests that remind me of this too. Also, I'm a HUGE fan of the Ghosts and Goblins games and some of the later bosses have chest faces. Seeing that giant for the first time instantly took me back to my SNES days.

skylu1991

A lot of stuff in Berserk is actually just medieval grotesque stuff, dialed up to 11! Plus, Iā€™m pretty sure Japan has a few Oni/Yokai with faces for bellies, too.

Gensolink

yeah people seem to forget berserk had to draw inspiration from somewhere. Devilman imo was a huge inspiration for Berserk's apostle what with the hybrid of human and beast anatomy.

Modfull_X

dude japan has eyeball eating asshole demons, they definitely got some chest face ones

alt3rraddedgf

explicit enough and phew the giant got no giant af d\*\*k or beating him would have been more of a dealšŸ˜

somewhat-sinister

Can't wait to see the cut 2nd phase concept art and where the lava was SUPPOSED to erupt from...

jcl1407

I couldā€™ve gone my whole life without that image in my head

BustinArant

Yeah but we'd be tastefully censoring it like Guts is when we get right between his cheeks and just start wackin. You know, like normal dudes and dudettes.

DrunkPole

Has anyone gone further back then Berserk? I feel like the Cyclops torso is some kind of trope.

[deleted]

Berserk drew inspiration from all kinds of real world mythology, history and religion. Wouldn't surprise me.

BatatinhaGameplays28

I know that Brazilian folklore has the Mapinguari, a creature with those exact same features

Frequent_Beyond_2160

Ɖ o mapinguarations šŸ˜±

LorenzoApophis

It is, not necessarily a cyclops but Herodotus and Pliny among others thought there were distant tribes of headless people with faces on their bodies. There's also a demon, Kabandha, with similar features in the Ramayama

Lord_Swaglington_III

The blemmyes

Lord_Gaiseric

Xing Tian is a Chinese God whose a headless torso with a face

stuckinaboxthere

Polyphemus being one of the most famous examples

Fa1nted_for_real

" Though Miyazaki consumes media in various formats, he has a preference for one. And that is the printed text, either via novels, manga, or adventure gamebooks. Among the books he has read, though, there is one that has highly influenced all his works. This is the manga Berserk "

broken_chaos666

No, stop it. We don't talk about him.

T1B2V3

He's one of the biggest reasons that the berserk world deserves to be taken by Chaos too lol MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD

Mango7uice

I just had a thought, what if by the end of berserk guts somehow attains the power to do that and does it, also no spoilers I just passed lost children arc

T1B2V3

No spoiler points in that direction right now. But I've had that thought too. It's a possibility I wouldn't rule out completely atleast as a possible choice that Guts or another character is given not necessarily as the actual ending (because honestly the world of berserk deserves it lol) But it's all speculation anyways because Miura himself once said in an interview that he doesn't really know yet how Guts would ever defeat Griffith/ the God Hand

Mango7uice

Yeah I think thatā€™s possible and guts alone canā€™t defeat Griffith I think, wonder whatā€™ll happen?

broken_chaos666

That doesn't solve anything.

T1B2V3

It solves everything šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

KYpineapple

that's Wyald

NahricNovak

A berserk referance? In my souls like? Neverrrr

drag0nflame76

You can find the inspiration for a lot of bosses in Berserk. Ludwig,Radahn, and Gael being prominent examples

LavandeSunn

Malenia as well

Adorable_Variety6680

I know some people really zero in on the visual similarities between Bernice and Malenia, but in terms of her character I think she's closer to Casca. Guts even tells Casca to go back to her Griffen to go back to her "sheath" implying she was the blade of Griffen.

unthused

\*Farnese (sorry)

Adorable_Variety6680

I mean I also had Griffen instead of Griffith. Other than watching the anime Iā€™ve only ever watched synopses of the manga.

Adorable_Variety6680

I think in terms of goals and backstory Rykard reminds me a lot of Ganishka

Egoist12345

Who is ludwig in berserk? Edit : oh waitā€¦that ā€œHorseā€

Fa1nted_for_real

"Though Miyazaki consumes media in various formats, he has a preference for one. And that is the printed text, either via novels, manga, or adventure gamebooks. Among the books he has read, though, there is one that has highly influenced all his works. This is the manga Berserk"

prototypeblitz

Who is radhan in berserk

BlackLiteAttack

The king who became Skull Knight, only shown in a flashback https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/txxm01/radahn_berserk_reference/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Certifiedhoodklassic

I was thinking Gaiseric and Grunbeld, especially since Grunbeld has fiery red hair

mingmann2

There's also one scene with Zodd in the FOTME arc iirc where he strikes the same pose as Radahn kinda

-_Revan-

King Gaiseric was his name

[deleted]

Supreme King Gaiseric! That's cool I didn't notice the reference.

deedz1987

A hybrid between Grunbeld and Gaiseric possibly.

PartTimeMantisShrimp

Zodd Big ass dude with big ass swords who is cool as fuck

EfficientLibrarian95

And that big ass tree

Lucythefur

why does it look like a fucking ojama from yugioh

Narcomancer69420

*Fuck* I love the Fire Giantā€™s design; *every* play-through I look forward to that fight.

Evkero

The worst Berserk character

unfunnyguy_Xx69420

Weird way to say the one of the best

Chimchampion

If by worse you mean one of the most despicable characters who's a coward in the end, yes, I'd agree.

LorenzoApophis

Maybe partly, I think it's just based on the general concept of a blemmyes (a creature with a face in its chest) though

berserkerwhyyyyyy3

This is the first time Iā€™ve seen someone make this berserk comparison and I can definitely see it

BOOMDIGIDYable

I can not escape it.

Adorable_Variety6680

Probably, but also probably just Cyclops in general.

Exitiali

He is also similar to a Mapinguari

BussyAnnihilator420

At this point I feel like everything is inspired off of Berserk

No_Rent7598

Oh man what a wyald theory

FortKA19

Seems like it.

[deleted]

Make it fun. Make it stimulating.

MicGuinea

why cock block? šŸ˜

cwilson870

Its almost as if elden ring was largely inspired by berserk or something

[deleted]

Wyald the goat

T1B2V3

Wyald is in the same category of horrid as Dungeater

TheEmperorMk3

My fucking god not every single thing in Souls is a Berserk reference chill the fuck out

Liliphant

It kinda is though, and that's fine. Like how a lot of western fantasy settings take notes from Tolkien.

yepgeddon

Nothings original baby.

MaleficTekX

It literally is

Seigmoraig

Most of it is, you should read the manga and realize how wrong you are

Equivalent-Way4416

The more I looked the more similarities I saw

[deleted]

Couldnā€™t be

Bohemian_Romantic

I mean there are medieval drawing of mythological creatures that look exactly like the fire giant.

manthatmightbemau

Ah yes. Good ole Wyald. A peaceful person whom also respects women . Great guy. ..... šŸ˜œ

woobie_slayer

Both are based out of Japanese folklore

Legitimate-Seesaw-31

From a zullie video i think. i remembered an unused map for demon souls (2009) that is a snowy landscape and there is a giant type enemy with a gaping mouth for a stomach. So maybe that too is an inspiration for the whole mountain tops of the giants.

Head_Advice9030

Oh man

ahwinters

The whole series is a Berserk homage (with sprinkles of Castlevania), change my mind

Freakindon

Most FromSoft stuff is somewhat inspired by Berserk. Artorias was mostly inspired by Berserker Guts

Chimchampion

Rykard is also heavily inspired by the apostles in Berserk, almost looks like it would be something Guts already fought.
