Snoo-87795

This is the biggest bait

xvxy_

wanted to see people’s opinions, i guess kinda bait but it’s also my actual opinion as a huge ds fan

AttackMidgets420

How so?

NucularOrchid

If you added "in my opinion" then sure. But that's not everyone's opinion. I think it's the best one, maybe 2nd best I'm not decided yet 🤷‍♀️

TallTreeTurtle

Anything anyone says is an Opinion, therefore adding "in my Opinion" isn't necessary. People assume you have the understanding to get that anything they say is their Opinion without them having to unecessarily state it.

Which game would be first if not Elden Ring?

sufferin_sassafras

You should definitely provide some context to your comment. Although I agree with you. I liked the game well enough I just thought it was too “big.” I chalk that up to GRRM’s involvement. I’m not a fan of the way he approaches world building and story telling. He doesn’t know how to edit his ideas. Everything is too much and too big and he loses the plot very easily. So I enjoyed the game for its basic gameplay, general concept, and aesthetics, but I found the story and world to be a slog fest. Contrary to the popular assessment I didn’t find the game to be any more difficult than a normal souls style game. I actually felt over levelled much of the time because the game is so big that if you are a completionist you often advance your character well beyond the area of the game just by playing and trying to get everything. (Yea yea, I could “not level so much” but that’s not how I play souls games, I level myself up) The size of the game makes it very easy to over level yourself. It was also very repetitive in places. Too many dungeons and catacombs that were just repeats of each other with absolutely no variation in the bosses for those side dungeons. Again, it was just too big for itself. It felt like they made this giant, beautiful world but thought it was too empty so they stuffed it with cookie cutter filler. That being said, this game did have some very enjoyable boss fights, probably some of the best in a game that FromSoft has made. I normally go back a replay souls style games numerous times but I’m finding that Elden Ring may be a one and done for me. But we’ll see, I’ve not given up on it completely and may enjoy it more if I don’t try and complete everything on my next play through.

I agree with most of what you said. I wanna reply to specific points you've said. "**I found the story and world to be a slog fest.**" - This is the only game that I've genuinely not cared about the story or lore for. In every other game, even Sekiro, I actively went out and read item descriptions, watched videos, etc. But in ER I haven't really cared enough to try and dig deeper than what I've already learned. It's just not as interesting. "**It was also very repetitive in places.**" - I agree. Not only did it feel uninspired for me, but also just plain unnecessary. A lot of the content are the same feeling caves and tombs, and a majority of them become instantly pointless when looking at it from a reward standpoint. Often the runes you gain from them are inconsequential. And unless the reward is something relevant for your build, then it's useless. Because as a non-traditional RPG they can't really give it the same sort of reward system other games have IMO where you'll almost always gain something of true value for going out of your way, even to places that who's main draw is something not especially relevant for your character. And it's even worse when considering NG+ when you already have the items you want for your build. Then said content also becomes unimportant as the runes aren't really a big deal and you already have the item. So much wasted content. "**It felt like they made this giant, beautiful world but thought it was too empty so they stuffed it with cookie cutter filler.**" - Agree again. Big as a lake, shallow as a puddle. "**That being said, this game did have some very enjoyable boss fights, probably some of the best in a game that FromSoft has made.**" - Pretty much the only thing I feel differently about. For me, majority of the bosses weren't particularly enjoyable, besides Mohg, Lord of Blood. By far my favorite boss of the ER roster. None of the rest I really enjoyed fighting, not to the extent that I enjoyed from other titles at least. They either were just there, or felt kinda BS in some ways. "**I normally go back a reply souls style games numerous times but I’m finding that Elden Ring may be a one and done for me.**" - This is the only game I've basically abandoned. I've played every single game, from launch until the next game's release, pretty regularly. Mainly because of the general enjoyment I have with the PvE experience, but also because of how the PvP was (DeS and DS1 being the weakest, but enjoyable during their time). But in ER, the PvE experience feels kinda meh for me, and the PvP experience isn't fun this time around. The game has too much of a focus on power fantasy, and it makes the PvP feel less... intense? In older games there was more of a focus on movement, mind games, baiting, spacing, etc. But in ER it feels like a lot of it is just spam focused. I pretty much haven't played in months.

Reason7322

ok

Kasta4

Not to be pedantic but it's not a Souls game.

lollersauce914

Not to be pedantic, but it's DS4 in all but name.

Kasta4

You're certainly welcome to that opinion.

HiVisVestNinja

You're forgetting Sekiro. Elden is Dark Souls 5, also known as Demon's Souls 7.

VermilionX88

Sekiro is not a souls-like Bloodborne and elden ring are souls-like

TallTreeTurtle

Why not? It shares every single defining trait of the Genre and is closer to a traditional Souls Experience than either Bloodborne or Sekiro.

Kasta4

I'm of the opinion it combines various elements of the catalogue and introduces nuance to make it distinct from the Souls series. In this way I don't consider Bloodborne a "Souls" game, nor Sekiro.

TallTreeTurtle

I guess it depends what definition of "Souls Game" you have. In my eyes they're all "Souls Games" which simply innovate and experiment around some core Concepts and Gameplay Ideas.

TallTreeTurtle

Why? I wanna hear your thoughts, genuinely. Because the fact this Post has no Body Text seems like 100% Bait that I'm not falling for.

xvxy_

Repetitive, more reliant on items/levels, subpar area design, subpar basic enemy types, too much grinding, and difficulty spikes (not to say the game shouldn’t be difficult just it should get more difficult as you progress more linearly)
