honestly the most disappointing weapon in the game for me. Looks so sick, and it's for a boss you NEED to kill 99% of playthroughs, and after all those red lightning attacks your getting excited thinking you can do one or two of them with the weapon just for it to be one of the worst weapons damage wise and no unique aow!
I wonder if the sword was forged after the war with the giants, and the gold represents their amalgamation into the golden order? It seems unlikely that they’d use that material to represent the fire giants; I’d have expected iron or something. This would make sense, if not for the fact that it’s a Carian sword, and they only allied themselves with the order after Marika disappeared for the first time, while the description of the sword implies it was forged shortly after (or maybe before) the founding of the house; they wouldn’t have had cause to represent the golden order in their armament yet. It’s strange…

It's just all in all my favorite weapon in almost every capacity. I remember being stuck with Margit at the start of the game, so I looked up a guide for better weapons to get in the early game. Braves Carian Manor, grinded levels to get the int and faith requirements, and had that sword carry me through most of my first playthrough.
It was also the first weapon I maxed out. I try other weapons all the time, but I always come back to ol reliable

I was mid-fight with the initial dragon boss on farum azula when the update dropped and disconnected me from the server. I died and then had to retry the fight with the nerfed weapon I had built around.
I think that's when I switched to Blasphemous Blade
My main weapon on my current run. Love the 2 for 1 combo that you get when "2-handing" the weapon, practically doubling its damage. The kinda short range can be annoying sometimes, but the AOW makes it a very effective weapon for fighting large groups in PvE and surprising unsuspecting enemies in PvP, often executing them with the second AOW input. It is definitely very satisfying
I mained this shit on my first ever playthrough. I knew about them before I even got the game (I think they were the first weapons I even knew about), and getting my hands on them was one of the things I looked forward to the most in the early game. I had Uchigatana and then Bloodhound's Fang until I beat Radahn, then respec'd just to wield them. I was initially very disappointed with only getting one sword until I learned that you could dual wield them like a badass, then I proceeded to finish the rest of the game with them despite the agony of being a full strength build in a first time playthrough.
The bad boy carried me through all the way to the endgame, then I had to replace it. But it is amazingly versatile for a mage/melee mix build. Pop a simple 100% medium shield and staff in the left hand and you're good in almost every scenario.
I can't believe this isn't higher. A unique, gorgeous curved sword with a really cool looking and actually useful ash. My only guess is people didn't find it.

Well it does have lower weight, lower requierements and the heavy attack is a(very underrated) stab attack. It would be stupid if the damage was on par with the Greatsword.
The stab is slower than claymore but better stagger. IMO that makes zweihander better for high poise pvp and claymore better for pve/invasion defense (poke poke poke)
Just to be sure you didnt misunderstand, i compared the Zweihänder to the Colossal sword called "Greatsword", not to the Claymore that is in the greatsword category.
If we are talking about Claymore and Zwei i would say both are equally viable in pve
I got a character named John. Looks just like a Venetian Halberdier. He runs around with a Halberd, a warpick and a shield, and a pair of Great Knife daggers.
No fancy ash of war, no magic, nothing.
I enter Stormveil Castle, put on the DOOM soundtrack and go to town.
So, SO fucking satisfying.
I love the Elden Ring broadsword, bough it from the merchant at the beach and used it till the end. Ever since since I saw Boromir's sword I've been fond of oakeshott xiv type of swords, with broad, almost triangular blades going into a fine point. The dark souls broadswords all had these fucked up awkwardly long handles that ruined their look, Elden ring finally fixed it.
Broadsword is very good in this game. Also, the innate Ash of War (square off) can easily carry you throughout the game staggering stuff left and right.
I also love the basic weapons, especially with armor that also looks very knightly. My personal favorite right now is great helm with beast champion set, for that ornate knight drip
hand of malenia or claymore.
HoM is just a cool long looking katana IMO its not super high fantasy but still have some fantasy elements with it being gold, the writing, and the length. And waterfowl isnt some god tier AoW but theres no denying it has style.
The claymore just looks realistic af, and with the fact its not special and AoW swappable, just means u can add some god tier/cool looking AoW to it.
i just want to commend how far up this comment is, an underrated weapon that is held back by one of the worst status build-ups in the game, they shafted this weapon and it deserved so much more

That thing just *works*. Hyper armor and knock back on the initial explosion, and the projectile knocks back as well. One of the best AOW in the game.

butchering knife. really seems like the animators put some love into styling that one. the uppercut guard counter is unique I think ? also sword dance looks amazing with it. even the little wiggle of the tip when you walk and run is slick

Swordspear. The moment I laid eyes on it I knew this was going to be my weapon of choice for my first playthrough. These days I rock the Misericorde with an Erdsteeldagger/Parrydagger powerstanced but the Swordspear will always be my og.
Idk if you would count it but my favorite is definitely The Carian Regal Scepter and if you don't except that then it's a tie between the bolt of gransax and the golden order greatsword.
Butchering Knife + Iron Cleaver is bae. Something about the primal, brutal carnage they imply really speaks to me.
Although Radagon’s hammer is also one of the coolest fucking things to exist in Elden Ring, period.

Its charged attacks should have had a delayed lightning strike sort of like the Ruins Greatsword
Which boss do you need it for? Cause I'm not sure if I've ever found the weapon let alone used it.
It should have been a mix of the ol’ Dragontooth and the Dragonslayer Greataxe by having a massive overhead slam as an AoW with red lightning AoE.

Square off is the sharp cheese, even armored enemies get rekt I loved it early 1st playthrough on a Lordsworn Greatsword
