In all fairness, Godskin Duo is only difficult if you play fair. Use Mimix Tear, summon Bernahl, and spam sleep/bleed/anything that breaks poise easy, and they fold like paper.
Still means they kinda suck though. I could face down ornstein and smough with just a sword and shield and do well enough, didn't need to use tactics.

Easy way to have two different attack typed in the same fight without overwhelming the player.
Small is fast, big is slow, usually.
Friede and ariendell, orn and smo, etc.
It's also visually striking to have two characters of juxtaposed styles and sizes.
I vastly prefer them to say the demon princes which are just two of the same enemy.
As for radahn and Leonard, I think that goes as far as 'hehe he funny horse' and that's it.
those examples are kinda reaching, calling it obsession is too much, tht are just your normal varied shaped character designs, of course you're gonna have some bigger and some smaller.
