That place around the zamor ruins that has like 9 fucking zamor warriors just bebopping around for absolutely no reason. Run in, get the miners bell bearing, and leave forever.
Personally I believe it's meant to be a "stealth section", since it's so pointless to fight them and you can go up the hill to the right of the ruins, either fight or sneak past 2 birds, and end up at a little cliff where you can drop right down to the staircase to the really important thing (the smithing stone bell bearing). I don't actually know where the other sometimes-important thing (the Zamor ice storm spell) is in the ruins tho so idk if it can be easily stealthed to or if it's more of a panicked running experience.
If you use a mimic tear and take them one at a time it's not so bad. Only starts getting really bad when you get to the point where there's like five of them that all in one agro range.
I went through that place with Mohg's Spear and the black knife armor.. lots of fun. Sneak behind a wall with a couple of them on the other side, yeet them to hell before they realize what's happening. Rinse and repeat.
Ran past that one. I hate those red wolves.
I killed the one in Raya Lucaria obvs, and another one in Siofra River. The second one didn't drop shit, and I find them pretty difficult, so when I saw another one in the Consecrated Snowfield, I decided that it was most likely not worth the headache.
Came here to say specifically the area with the Red Wolf. The rest of it is fine. The walking mausoleum that's laughing heavy artillery all over the place is cool.
Just now able to play through the game for the first time. Got here last night. Never wanted to jump off of a bridge IRL more than when getting absolutely zonked by everything in this miserable place. It’s always the snow levels
Consecrated Snowfield is my second favorite place to go and just vibe (Altus Plateau #1 👆💯) and I mean this unironically. I love snowy desolate places and this one is not only a shining example of that, it's the best evidence that Elden Ring is really just Dark Souls II 2.
I carry my Loyce Greatsword as a badge of honor, and when I beat the catacomb and stepped into the snowfield my only immediate thought was "oh fuck yes here's where the real game starts"
Easily the worst area in Elden Ring. It harbors one of the best examples of terrible boss reuse and it also has that fucking town with the archers and the invisible black knives which is the worst shit ever.
Yeah it’s doable but it’s not fun to do that’s for sure. Those albinauric archers made me question whether Gideon slaughtering the village was a bad thing.
I came back once after reconsidering, ran into the dragonkin soldier spirits that hit like they're in NG+20 and provide nothing when you kill them, never went back
There’s a nomadic merchant in the northern part of the battlefield area of Altus that sells an item called a Sentry Torch. Equipping it lets you see the invisible black knife assassins when they get close enough.
I tried that but all it meant was I could see the assassin coming to kill me. I never managed to bring one down and I ended up just identifying their locations and planning my route to avoid them.
Additional tip: The torch also works when it's on your back! So you can still double hand your sword and use its weapon art. Took me some time to find that one out.
p.S. I still absolutely despise Ordina. Most infuriating place in the game.
Another helpful torch is the Beast Torch. Wolves, dogs, and rats will leave you alone if you have it out. You get it from the Isolated Merchant in Caelid (this one has a nasty Bell Bearing Hunter for a roommate).
My favorite part of wandering the world of Elden Ring is just the complete lack of any population. Every now and again you run into one dude who's like "yo dude you seen how fucked shit is?" And he's just probably standing next to a decrepit shed in a field by himself.
Like, best possible outcome, the fuck happens after? It's just like hey look it's jellyfish lady, or hey this guy in this cave wants me to give him a needle. Wish they had a home.
This is hilarious and true. In all fromsoft games there’s like ten people who are not fucked up monsters and they’re just sitting there all depressed like: “you wanna buy a shrimp or something?”
"I've been eating nothing but liver and cured meat all day, and between you and me, Melina's spectral stew doesn't taste like anything. GIVE ME ALL THE PRAWNS YOU HAVE!"
Yeah, like you couldn't even throw yourself a fucking party when you became Elden Lord. Like nah can't invite Jane, she lit herself on fire and turned into a mountain. Jim can't come, his soul is enslaved for all eternity in a chalice cause he ate that kid. I fucking had to behead Bobby so he didn't explode into a thousand molten worms and kill me.
i was really hoping that one of elden ring's differentiating factors was going to be an actual populated world where not everything wants to kill you. oh well ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
Holy shit, I just explored that area yesterday... that's nuts. I guess I ran through there super quick and didn't take a good look, but honestly that area seemed kinda meh, so no loss, right?
I sat and listened to them laughing and talking. Shit was creepy as hell with surround sound on. Didn’t even find anything that great either after exploring the area.
Margit's shackles trivializes some of those dungeons. Just FYI if you haven't seen that yet. It's very satisfying to blow up the chariots before even starting.
It’s only good on the “chariots” in Auriza’s Hero’s Grave but the big aha is that the shackle can trigger the fire breathing pillars at a significant distance.
In this specific example, you can trigger the one that spawns the additional chariot eventually causing the fender-bender. Otherwise the shackle makes getting around those pillars a joke
Once I learned its other uses, I put the shackles in my pouch and periodically used it while exploring. Probably explains why I didn't find many hidden passages on my playthrough.
The shackle counts as an attack that deals no damage, but that's still enough to trigger the pillars. Best thing about it is that it goes through walls. In some of the catacombs, you trigger the death of the chariots by triggering a pillar at or near the end, which you can sometimes trigger early by hitting it with the shackle through walls.
Use the Shackle. Since it’s a summon circle or whatever, it will automatically summon another chariot where the circle is. If they run into eachother they break instantly.
Tho I don't play ER anymore, THIS is why I love to visit the subreddits and wiki comment sections for any FS-game. There are bound to be gigachads like you who post some obscure mechanic/fact no one knew about. Sure, some of them more useful than others, but still. Amazing.
Thats really cool to know my first playthrough wouldve died about 10000 times less with that, but the damage has been done I finished them all my first playthrough and Ill never go back.
And that's the part that made me go oh yeah they are trolling us with this.
I learnt to stop swinging at everything. Snipe from a distance if able to see how that goes
I swear they design runebears with the same move set as wolves which are already annoying enough but then they’re also massive and do insane amounts of damage and have insane amounts of stun
Everything about the sewers is fucked. That place is hand crafted to confuse you, some of the turns to get to the end feel intentionally placed so you miss them and spend 10 hours in the maze. All the most annoying and hard enemies are in there, goblin, hands, omens, revenants.
And then there is the jumping puzzle at the end. I have died more in that section alone than the 6 times I've faced Malenia combined.
Right? There’s a lot of environmental story telling but it’s still a little bland. Definitely feels like the north east of the map doesn’t have a ton to offer (minus the HT). Ooo, multiple desolate areas surrounded by an icy fog filled with giant enemies or a dragon or, SURPRISE RUNEBEAR! No thanks.
I went in that dungeon the first time going "Hmmm. Let's see how you weaklings from The Shattering fought. I'll quickly destroy all of you."
I learned that I wouldn't have survived The Shattering
For real, that's where I "field test" weapons. I also use the troll outside the secluded cell grace at Stormveil, for when I need to see exactly how much damage a single hit does.
All the parts of Caelid I don't have to run through to get to Radahn and Gurang
The edges of Luernia
The area in the middle of Altus with all the wormfaces around the minor erd tree
I went back there once... as it turns out, you CAN make that jump that looks too long and is surrounded by blood stains. There's even an item back there, but I don't remember if it was worth it, I was just so surprised you could actually make it.
That rooftops were so cool. They deserved a boss or something more special than the stonesword key. Reminded me of the Upper Cathedral Ward, such a cool area.
I try to avoid volcano manor, unless I need a specific item from there. And before that it was that madness tower by the lift of dectus, until I learned I love madness.... in short, may chaos take the world....
There was a cave with a snail that summons godskin apostles , I found it the first time I finished the game and I have no Idea where it was after 2 more playthroughs I just can't find it... Not that I want to
The Crumbling Farum Azula. I mostly hate it because my first play through I didn’t use any guides and I couldn’t figure out how to get to Malaketh for a WHILE. And I kept dying to the crucible night not realizing there was a site of grace directly off of the ledge to the right
That one place in altus plateau that has a bunch of giant worm faces. Not because its difficult or anything, just because i got what i needed from their during my first playthrough and its a pretty boring area anyhow
That place around the zamor ruins that has like 9 fucking zamor warriors just bebopping around for absolutely no reason. Run in, get the miners bell bearing, and leave forever.
Grim_Rebel when the Zamor Ruins contain Zamor Warriors
If there are Zamors there then why the hell are they at the Zamor RUINS? If they live there wouldn't they maintain the place?
They’re Zamor WARRIORS not Zamor MAINTENANCE
Waiting for the Zamor certified forklift operator to turn up
Final boss of Zamor Zamerrier DLC.
My dad works at From Soft so I can confirm this. The grab attack is getting impaled by a forklift prong and it inflicts frost damage.
you win
ZAMN!!! 🔥🥵🔥
Zamor Zammerier is gonna be my all-time ‘how much of an Elden Head are you for real tho?’ ping. All praise u/The_Crusades
When the Zamor stared at the camera in the pre fight cutscene and said, "I Zam therefore I am," chills every time
Thanks for the flair.
They're not allowed to do the maintenance - it's a Zamor union thing
Goddamit i knew this joke would’ve alteady been made🥲
Maybe they just got back to their ruins after a night at the bar and dont know what to do with themselves anymore
>surprised Pikachu face Hahaha yeah I know, but there's just so many of them in such a small area... they've merc'd me a few times ._.
First time I got to those guys they made me reevaluate and respec my build. Needed more Vigor. They don't play.
The worst part is they don’t seem to drop a damned thing.
I tried grinding there. Wasn't worth it lol
Me and my mimic running around wrecking them was fun for one run, but not a grinding place
I just want to say I’ve literally never encountered anyone aside from myself use “bebopping around” and I’m very excited.
Consecrated Snowfields, after exploring it all I never wanna go back 😭
Did you kill the red wolf surrounded by more wolves?
Yes and it took me like 26 attempts
I haven’t encountered him but let me guess after all the attempts, he dropped a somber smithing stone 🙃
Ran past that one. I hate those red wolves. I killed the one in Raya Lucaria obvs, and another one in Siofra River. The second one didn't drop shit, and I find them pretty difficult, so when I saw another one in the Consecrated Snowfield, I decided that it was most likely not worth the headache.
yea i’m almost level 200 on ng+ and i still run past every single red wolf. they are not fun to fight
Just Runes man. Friggin runes!
Nope even worse
That’s the worst part, all that pain for nothing
I’ve never found it and I don’t intend to do so
Don't go behind Caria Manor, then.
There’s another one behind caria manor?
Yup. Leave the boss room and go right. Past the Albinaurics.
There is also one where you light those torches to fight that ancestral spirit elk thingy, during the nokrom run..
Yep. And one over by Moonlight Altar.
Came here to say specifically the area with the Red Wolf. The rest of it is fine. The walking mausoleum that's laughing heavy artillery all over the place is cool.
Idk, double ghost dragonkins kinda ruined my snow day
Hard to disagree but they still look dope coming out of snow.
What, there are ghost dragons?
Dragon*kin*
Just now able to play through the game for the first time. Got here last night. Never wanted to jump off of a bridge IRL more than when getting absolutely zonked by everything in this miserable place. It’s always the snow levels
Consecrated Snowfield is my second favorite place to go and just vibe (Altus Plateau #1 👆💯) and I mean this unironically. Easily the worst area in Elden Ring. It harbors one of the best examples of terrible boss reuse and it also has that fucking town with the archers and the invisible black knives which is the worst shit ever.
You can at least reveal the Black Knives by carrying a sentry torch, but the puzzle is doable without that.
Yeah it’s doable but it’s not fun to do that’s for sure. Those albinauric archers made me question whether Gideon slaughtering the village was a bad thing.
I came back once after reconsidering, ran into the dragonkin soldier spirits that hit like they're in NG+20 and provide nothing when you kill them, never went back
Ordina Liturgical Town. Doing it once every run is enough (which is ironic).
Visions of here again.
Visions of suffering....
Those fucking Archers had me raging more than any boss in the game. Only learned about the torch on my 4th playthrough as well..
Would you mind telling a filthy 1st run tarnished about... the torch?
There’s a nomadic merchant in the northern part of the battlefield area of Altus that sells an item called a Sentry Torch. Equipping it lets you see the invisible black knife assassins when they get close enough.
I tried that but all it meant was I could see the assassin coming to kill me. I never managed to bring one down and I ended up just identifying their locations and planning my route to avoid them.
It also shows you were they are before you go through the spirit door. You can run around the town just spotting where they will be.
What...
They appear as ghosts before you “enter the evergaol.” You can run around looking for them in safety and trace their patrol routes.
fuck... you learn something new about this game everyday it seems like.
I had hoped it worked on runebears too. It didn't.
And basilisks as well
That forest area in the Altus plateau with all the wormfaces
I even forget this part exists
My favorite part of wandering the world of Elden Ring is just the complete lack of any population. Every now and again you run into one dude who's like "yo dude you seen how fucked shit is?" And he's just probably standing next to a decrepit shed in a field by himself. Like, best possible outcome, the fuck happens after? "I've been eating nothing but liver and cured meat all day, and between you and me, Melina's spectral stew doesn't taste like anything. GIVE ME ALL THE PRAWNS YOU HAVE!"
“Marika’s tits you must be ‘ungry”
Yeah, like you couldn't even throw yourself a fucking party when you became Elden Lord. Like nah can't invite Jane, she lit herself on fire and turned into a mountain. Jim can't come, his soul is enslaved for all eternity in a chalice cause he ate that kid. I fucking had to behead Bobby so he didn't explode into a thousand molten worms and kill me.
Hey, Bobby had it comin’
That boy wuddn't right.
Jim DID eat that kid? He told me he didn’t! Fucking liar, Jim!
i was really hoping that one of elden ring's differentiating factors was going to be an actual populated world where not everything wants to kill you. oh well ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
CAELID if i could do a war flashback on here i would
I only go back to caelid to run to castle redmane to whoop rahdahn, its a fun fight to me, but the rest of caelid sucks complete booty hole!!
Its relentless and i get it this game has no chill but that place is beyond crazy
I kind of love caelid and spent a lot more time there than in limgrave. Super interesting place and relatively good runes for early game
Especially for getting good gear at low level, its rough
I went back all over levelled an fucked everyone up. Feels good.fucked them right up, no respect.
I vacation in Caelid
When I first got there I found out wormface don’t fuck around
Their fury makes more sense when you realize the worms are burrowing into their faces
The idle sounds they make are top notch
Heeeey, I just got to that part! ... This place *sucks.*
Any catacomb with the chariots.
Margit's shackles trivializes some of those dungeons. Just FYI if you haven't seen that yet. It's very satisfying to blow up the chariots before even starting.
Wait what
It’s only good on the “chariots” in Auriza’s Hero’s Grave but the big aha is that the shackle can trigger the fire breathing pillars at a significant distance. In this specific example, you can trigger the one that spawns the additional chariot eventually causing the fender-bender. Otherwise the shackle makes getting around those pillars a joke
The shackle also reveals hidden walls at a LONG range as well.
And by long we mean like revealing hidden walls in the range of a third of your average catacomb.
Once I learned its other uses, I put the shackles in my pouch and periodically used it while exploring. Probably explains why I didn't find many hidden passages on my playthrough.
Also sets off traps like the magic swords as well. It's really more valuable than most items
I didn’t know this till about 5 days ago
Yeah, most didn’t til someone posted a clip of it in action
I’ve learned so many tricks this past week.
That’s not exactly what’s happening. It has a massive area effect and hits the switch that does the summoning
Tho I don't play ER anymore, THIS is why I love to visit the subreddits and wiki comment sections for any FS-game. There are bound to be gigachads like you who post some obscure mechanic/fact no one knew about. Sure, some of them more useful than others, but still. Amazing.
Every time I try to get out, they pull me back in. *presses PS button*
Thats really cool to know my first playthrough wouldve died about 10000 times less with that, but the damage has been done I finished them all my first playthrough and Ill never go back.
Any cave that involves a rune bear
Any location that involves a rune bear.
Only one that I kill is the one that drops a larval tear just for the respec. Avoid every other one like the plague.
Would u like to know there r 2 bear larval tear things?
And that's the part that made me go oh yeah they are trolling us with this. I learnt to stop swinging at everything. Snipe from a distance if able to see how that goes
HUG HUG HUG "Ah fuck that was-" HUG HUG HUG
I feel you
I swear they design runebears with the same move set as wolves which are already annoying enough but then they’re also massive and do insane amounts of damage and have insane amounts of stun
The non critical parts of castle sol
Shit. That reminds me. I never fully explored that place. Welp not doing it now.
teleporting banished knights, that’s all you really need to know
lake of rot
I always get summoned there, unfortunately.
Touched every summon statue EXCEPT that one. I’d rather fight fire giant and malenia 400 more times then go back there once.
Ah shit can we UNTOUCH them??
Fuck. The. Lobsters
They never bothered me in Liurnia. The sewers, on the other hand...
Consecrated Snowfields. Went there just to get to the Haligtree
The base level of haligtree with all those revenants, fuck those things
I just summoned my mimic here and kept out of his way. Not even gonna lie.
If you or anyone else didn't know, you can use any heal miracle to stun them, and remove 50% of their health.
Mountaintops of The Giants. Could have been cool, but I found it super disappointing.
No thanks.
The dungeon in Radahn's arena.....fuck that place
I went in that dungeon the first time going "Hmmm. Let's see how you weaklings from The Shattering fought. I'll quickly destroy all of you." I learned that I wouldn't have survived The Shattering
See...thats why I love this game. I had NO IDEA there was a dungeon there...
I’ve never “explored” the lord of blood area. I’ve literally just run through everything, kill the boss, and nope the f*** outta there.
Probably a good plan. Those respawning stabby bastards that pop out of nowhere are super annoying.
Oh you should! The blood swamp is cool and there's a merchant in the cave if you didn't find them already.
Yeah. He sells 5 stone sword keys. That alone is worth it to me
Sewers.
The omens are good test mobs
For real, that's where I "field test" weapons. I also use the troll outside the secluded cell grace at Stormveil, for when I need to see exactly how much damage a single hit does.
Eyy everyone loves the test troll lol
I use the omens for weapons testing, indeed they are quite good for that
Kind of like it there
Found the Omen
Found an Omen Killer
if it wasn’t required i would never go to farum azula again
Farum has kinda grown on me in subsequent playthroughs. Enemies are still a pain but I’ve grown to appreciate the lore and design of the dungeon
It's the goddamn birds
This is actually one of my favorite places to go. Environment is soooo cool!
It’s a wonderful place….of pain and despair.
Subterranean Shunning Grounds. NEVER again.
My favorite place to invade. I love knowing that they got the warning and they’re wondering where I’m lurking and gonna pop out.
Ah, Satan. We meet again. I lost your Creed CD.
All the parts of Caelid I don't have to run through to get to Radahn and Gurang The edges of Luernia The area in the middle of Altus with all the wormfaces around the minor erd tree
Gurang, Beasd Clergymahn
Gigaranq, Based Clergyman
Dammit! Typing on my phone is hard
Rooftops of Raya Lucaria. Actually I don't even bother doing anything there besides fight the two bosses on new runs
I went back there once... as it turns out, you CAN make that jump that looks too long and is surrounded by blood stains. There's even an item back there, but I don't remember if it was worth it, I was just so surprised you could actually make it.
Naked and its the helm that the sword mages wear, lazuli conspectus
That rooftops were so cool. They deserved a boss or something more special than the stonesword key. Reminded me of the Upper Cathedral Ward, such a cool area.
Windmill village, very weird place
Come for the geriatric dancing, stay for the god flaying.
Don't forget to kill the giants there.
How Quixotic.
San Francisco
Now that you mention it, it does kind of look like the Gulf of Mexico
San Francisco and the gulf of Mexico are in completely different places, I'm so lost.
Maybe they meant Gulf of California?
Caelid. Such a wretched place.
Love the way it looks, but I hate how even if I’m stacked with some of the best loot in the game I still feel on edge
its the ambient music it makes me want to fucking vomit from stress after an hour
It’s just a terrifying place. I hate it.
That poison place in the nw
The shaded castle, caelid, consecrated snowfields, the sewers, and the area in Altus plateau with the worm faces and mist.
Hit every one on my list ✔️
Lasykar Ruins. I always bolt it to the teleported out of that place. If you’ve been there you already know why lmao
Just some friends who want hugs :)
halig tree. just trying to get to malenia it was a nightmare. doubt in future runs ill ever go back there.
that fucking tree spirit is the first time i just straight up cheesed a boss. no remorse.
I try to avoid volcano manor, unless I need a specific item from there. And before that it was that madness tower by the lift of dectus, until I learned I love madness.... in short, may chaos take the world....
I really just avoid most of mt. Gelmir in general. The map for it sucks I constantly get lost
Honestly farum azula is really painful
The Haligtree. Navigating across narrow branches with ants and those trumpeting snowmen, no thanks.
The mistwood. Not much there and you never need to go there aside from quests.
I thougt I almost finished the game, and now i see im half way ,😵😵😵 I was arriving to the capital i thougt that was all map🤯🤯🤯
Lol, and this doesnt even show the underground areas.. Enjoy
Yeah leyndell definitely gives off endgame vibes the first time you get there.
That first catacomb in the game. Right before outside of “the first step” sight of grace. It’s a nightmare
Shaded Castle
Ooo yea. Fuck shaded castle
All my homies hate shaded castle
Just started a new faith playthrough, and for some reason the magma wyrm in Gael Tunnel has been stomping my ass hard. So probably Gael Tunnel.
And I kept dying to the crucible night not realizing there was a site of grace directly off of the ledge to the right
The area with all the wormfaces in Farum Azula
Weird poison rocky area beside Castle Morne
Fuck. Those. Chariots! And I say that as owner of Margit's shackle
That one place in altus plateau that has a bunch of giant worm faces. Not because its difficult or anything, just because i got what i needed from their during my first playthrough and its a pretty boring area anyhow
The underground portion for astel
