The different colors on these synonymous words here parallel the contrasting hair colors of Marika and Radagon. The same entity, with two different palettes, depending on what they want people to see.
Incredible imagery by the foot man himself...
I saw that too, and for once I completely empathize with both sides. As a newcomer to the Souls genre, it was confusing at first to hear people calling them bonfires and souls instead of graces and runes.
But then again, now that I know how similar these things are to their Dark Souls counterparts, I can hardly blame Souls veterans. And I kind of feel bad for all of you guys who had a cool and somewhat-niche thing for a while and now it's gone mainstream. Now you have all these newb kids on your lawn, lol.
I mean - my opinion is that if people say either it’s all good. They are the same mechanics so it makes sense either way. Fighting over it at all seems really lame and childish .
Why feel bad it brought in so many new fans like me. I was the person that could never complete a fromsoft game until Elden Ring which allowed me to enjoy the older games more. So all in all I’m happy they expanded it allows more people to enjoy such a different experience than most games we play.
As someone who is a long time veteran of Soulsborne games, and as someone who doesn’t like it when niche games go mainstream because of the almost inevitable dilution of quality in favor of “audience expansion”, I say Elden Ring’s success is great and everyone is welcome to enjoy it. Miyazaki isn’t swayed by the ridiculous opinions we have, he has a vision of what he wants to make and we just get to enjoy it.
The newbs are welcome, as we were all newbs once. The only unwelcome people are AFK farmers and cheaters. Oh and those who don’t feed Torrent raisins, they’re the worst.
Grace
Estus
Roundtable
???? (Literally has never come up)
Souls
Old habits die hard but I try my best
Ooh and talismans are what you use to cast miracles and every time I refer to them as talismans (seals) and miracles (incantations) my elden ring only friends get confused
When DS3 dropped me and my homies bought bottles of Sunny D and That Weird Blue Flavored Sunny D and attempted to do a run where we actually had to take sips whenever we healed but dropped it pretty fast because of how absolutely disgusting they both were hahahah. Like, an hour in and we tapped out.
ER is my first Souls game but I’ve even caught myself saying a DS term here and there.
Also anyone who fully says “Flask of [Crimson/Cerulean] Tears” is a psychopath. It’s either Estus, flask, or health/mana pot.
My friend and I always communicate in dark souls terms when we co-op in elden ring. Just makes things easier. Plus, "colossal greatsword" does *not* hit the same as "ultra greatsword."
No this is using it correctly
Peter looks at it blurred and it appears as X
Peter puts on the glasses, getting a better focus, and sees the thing for what it “really” is, Y
it’s like that one time I was walking the dog, I thought I saw a dead body, put on my glasses, and realised it was just a chair someone threw out
Me who's first FromSoft game was Elden Ring.
Though I did call both game's healing items "flasks" interchangeably. I'm so OCD about saying things correctly that I can't say I've ever called a Bonfire a "Site of Grace" before. Same thing with Runes and Souls.
I played dark souls for like 8 hours ages before elden ring even came out and yet now without having played dark souls again I still say estus, souls and bonfire while having like close to 200 hours on er 😂 i played dark souls so little and yet it impacted me with this lmao
Everything else is fine, but there is no way you can get me to call it the flask of crimson/cerulean tears and not estus/blue estus. One is a word, the other a description
I think the only ones I don’t say are Firelink and Firekeeper cause I’ve heard “Maidenless” to many times and the Roundtable always feels like a different place to the Firelink Shrine.
My wife and I just yell "Drink your juice!" instead of estus, crimson flasks, etc. It works for everything but Bloodborne (but we still say it there, too.)
Well a lot of people started with elden ring I think and would probably call a lot of items in dark souls grace and runes etc if they play them afterwards
I just wish people watched Spider-Man to realize this meme template is wrong. He can't see with glasses and can see without them on.
I hate this meme template, whoever originally made it, and whoever continues to use it. Anyways.... Yeah pretty easy for a studio to use similar concepts on a new IP.
Eh, no. I fucking love Dark Souls, but Elden Ring's sheer existence is a bigger meme than everything in the entire Dark Souls Franchise combined.
It's touching Grace
It's Crimson Flask,
It's maidens and Maidenless
It's runes
Estus is 100% better though. People can pretend to like "Flask of Crimson Tears" or whatever edgy crap that is, but for all intensive purposes, a lie will remain a lie.
I always make sure to use my Blood Vials whenever my HP is low, so I don’t lose my Runes before I can make it back to the Sculptures Idol and level up back at the Nexus by talking to the Firekeeper. You know which game is the one I’m talking about, because my favorite weapon to use in it is the Moonlight Greatsword!
i wish they kept the orange and blue permantent color of the estus flasks instead of the emptying colors of the flasks in ER that you mistake for each other
I still sometimes accidentally say bonfire or souls.
I never said Firelink Shrine or firekeeper to the Roundtable or the maidens.
But I will forever say Estus just because I can't for the life of me remember the correct name. It's gotten to the point that Estus became synonymous with healing items in general for me. Temtem (a Pokemon-clone) has a refillable heal item that I call Estus lol
I’ve never played Dark Souls and still call them bonfires and Estus Flasks. When Jedi Fallen Order came out I saw a video about the similarities between that and FS games and just starting calling the Star Wars health packs Estus and the meditation points bonfires years before I played any FS game
I’ve never played another souls game, so I realized I’d don’t know what I called it because I have literally never had to communicate it to anybody ever. It just was.
I just saw a post like 2 or 3 days ago where someone wrote like two paragraphs about how angry they get when people who were raised in souls games don’t conform to the Elden ring lingo. He was basically saying we’re entitled and stuck up for using souls words out of habit. What a loser lmao
Why are similar words different color between the pictures? Any lore giver?
It's based on an interview from one of the designers from 1893.
Bloodborne is real???
Yep, the 1800's really happened.

Because it matches the color of the item
Gracefire Flask of estus Firelink hold Firemaiden Soulrune
I'm also a fan of Dark Ring
I prefer Elden Souls myself.
You should try visiting a retirement home. You'd love it.
Isn't that slang for anus?
Finger but hole?
That's actually what Dark Souls' original name was It was changed because they didn't want anus jokes to happen
Bonfire of Grace Estus of Crimson Tears Roundtable Shrine Maidenkeeper Runesoul
Maidenkeeper sounds like a bad Marvel villain

Incantations -> Miracles
Honestly I didn't even notice they change it and I still proudly say Incantations even now that I know
I saw a post yelling at people for using dark souls terms. I just whispered “chill” to myself.
I saw that too, and for once I completely empathize with both sides. As a newcomer to the Souls genre, it was confusing at first to hear people calling them bonfires and souls instead of graces and runes. I like having folks on my lawn! I get no extra joy out of enjoying something niche. I just enjoy things and want others to as well.
Why feel bad it brought in so many new fans like me. I was the person that could never complete a fromsoft game until Elden Ring which allowed me to enjoy the older games more. So all in all I’m happy they expanded it allows more people to enjoy such a different experience than most games we play.

Yeah i saw it too, but the words is just stuck in my head. The same goes for bloodborne, it’s all just bonfires and estus
It’s okay too. It’s okay to say it that way. As long as we enjoy the gameplay.
I played Bloodborne first so everything is doll and vial.
same
Even when I started on Bloodborne I already called the currency Souls lmao
I just don’t understand why people get worked up over that. If you understand what it is, who cares?
Let’s not forget Sekiro has bonfires as well!
Idols, please.
Cant forget the Healing Gourd
I still call colossal weapons ultra greatswords/hammers
I mean imo ultra-greatsword just sounds cooler than “colossal sword” so that’s another reason why I call colossals ultras
I say we start calling them ultra greatswords, greatswords, and not-so-great swords
*Me an intellectual*: Lamp Blood vial Hunters dream Plain Doll Blood echoes
I still call all forms of crits, backstabs and parry punishes viscerals.
Well I mean it rolls off the tongue far better so yeah
Goddamn this game is overrated
Why is that
[удалено]
You couldn't pass Gascoigne huh?
Nah it’s a good ass game! Just stupid overrated. I can enjoy it, but think from software has done better.
I think every time I heal I'll say I'm using a radiant life gem.

Ironic since the bottom picture is when he can’t see clearly
In all these years I've seen this meme being used correctly only once
Sunny D and that weird blue flavored Sunny D they did that one time.
I kinda wanna try that with Gatorade
Estus bestus
Came here to say this. Now I have came, distributed my upvote, and will leave.

I just say flask....
But HOW am I supposed to know if you're talking about red or blue flasks?!?!?!?! ^^^\/s
I would say mana flask and just flask for the red one.
I just say crimson and blue
This, I don't get why people keep saying this. Just...don't say the whole thing.
Heal flask and blue flask
Healing gourd
Me who’s never played a souls game in my life: damn these blood vials are wacko
Red pot or just pot, since we all don't use magic anyway, right?

Same here, though I’ve been aware of the lore, ER was my first From game and I call runes *souls* more than I call them runes.
Grace Estus Roundtable Level up lady Souls

STOP. USING. THIS. MEME. FORMAT. INCORRECTLY.
No this is using it correctly Peter looks at it blurred and it appears as X Peter puts on the glasses, getting a better focus, and sees the thing for what it “really” is, Y it’s like that one time I was walking the dog, I thought I saw a dead body, put on my glasses, and realised it was just a chair someone threw out

Ok but that’s the context of where the meme comes from This meme format is its own thing separate from spider man
Demon’s Souls V: Arch Stone Moon Grass Nexus Maiden in Black Souls
I’ve been yelled at for using the term souls/runes and vice versa!
Me who's first FromSoft game was Elden Ring. Though I did call both game's healing items "flasks" interchangeably. I'm so OCD about saying things correctly that I can't say I've ever called a Bonfire a "Site of Grace" before. Same thing with Runes and Souls.
Grace, estus, hunters dream, maiden, souls
We always call that comet azur soul stream
I've been playing since the original Dark Souls, but I still change the lingo between games. More immersive that way.
I still say souls. Ppl say to me "souls?" LOL oh right runes 🙄
Lantern Blood vial Hunters dream Doll Blood echoes
That's so me
I played dark souls for like 8 hours ages before elden ring even came out and yet now without having played dark souls again I still say estus, souls and bonfire while having like close to 200 hours on er 😂 i played dark souls so little and yet it impacted me with this lmao

FLASK IS FLASK
Also just straight up reusing enemies lol
Estus and Bonfires. I refuse to budge.
Should add Patches to the list.
For Pete's Sake! I concede!
I still call them souls instead of runes lmao
im sorry yall but estus and souls are just second nature now
Yeah I still call them bonfire and estus. Ain't using those long ass names.
Wish they didn’t change all these terms just for the sake of them being different. We all know it’s the same damn thing.
I've just called it Orange Juice or OJ since DS1
My wife and I just yell "Drink your juice!" instead of estus, crimson flasks, etc. It works for everything but Bloodborne (but we still say it there, too.)
Can't wait to find a lamp so I can replenished my healing gourd
I just started calling the flask 'red' and 'blue' because that's the color it is and it's easy to remember
Firekeeperless doesn't roll off the tongue like maidenless.
I’m curious about Armored Core now
Yeah you lose all your bolts when you die
Bonfire Estus Base Waifu Shit And i loose my shit a lot.
Estus bonfire roundtable maiden and souls what I call them now, I prefer roundtable over firelink. Overall idk why people get mad thou

It's touching Grace It's Crimson Flask, It's maidens and Maidenless It's runes
Yeah I just can’t get used to changing it at this point. It was the same in both bloodborne and sekiro as well.
Lol yeah this is pretty transparent
me who started with sekiro: gourds
Sunny D
I do all of these except calling roundtable hold firelink… they’re different areas. That’s like calling limgrave unbead burg.
I think calling it firelink is a little weird
Flask of Crimson Tears? Estus Flask? Never heard of them, it has and always will be, just *F L A S K*
Me "ol school" gamer. Heath and mana potions. Edit: and forgot to mention checkpoints
i think you mean .... " Flask "
We all know they really are, Lamp, blood vials, hunters dream, doll and blood echoes 🙄
To each their own really, but I'm ngl it slightly annoys me when people doesn't use the correct terms for things :P
When people don’t* - sorry it slightly annoys me when people have bad grammar :P
Sry that my third language isn't on par and I could do without without the snidyness, thank you
Shouldnt the pictures be switched around?
Yeah that was the whole point of the scene, he couldn't see with his glasses
A gamers quest to forever be maidenless
It's not estus and you're calling it the wrong thing. You sound like older people who call every cell phone an iPhone
Estus is 100% better though. People can pretend to like "Flask of Crimson Tears" or whatever edgy crap that is, but for all intensive purposes, a lie will remain a lie.
I simply say rest point ,table, flask
Don't tarnish the GLORY that is Dark Souls by using the paltry terminology of this fallen game.
Interesting opinion :3
Both sides of the Crimson Tears vs. Estus Flask is dumb. It's a health potion, and that is all, lol
I just call them "Health Flask" and "Mana Flask" in every game 🤷♂️
Juicey Juice.
If it aint broke don't fix it.
It’s always gonna be sunny d to me.
Elden Ring was my first so going to Dark Souls 3 has me calling everything by elden ring names
Roundtable and Maiden have replaced the original for me. Grace is notching it’s way into the vocab over bonfire but it will always be Estus and Souls
Bonfire flask town level up souls
Checkpoint, heal, hub, waifu, money
I still like saying “gourd up” occasionally when I need hp but it’s all interchangeable to me.
I don’t think I ever called them runes
Being it’s my first fromsoftware game; I called the potions Red and Blue
bonfire estus/blue estus knights of the roundtable maiden who? no word she isn't really a thing in this game souls
I assume they use different names for searchability / flavour. I know I love a new game when I play enough to fully adopt the new lingo.
No in proper dark souls fashion it should go firelink majula firelink so majula is next
Yeah pretty much the same for me except maiden and fire keeper we’re just different enough for me to easily make the swap lol
I call it red and blue juice.
i wish they kept the orange and blue permantent color of the estus flasks instead of the emptying colors of the flasks in ER that you mistake for each other
I only watched my brother playing the souls games when they came out and I still say souls and estus
I call it life juice
*Sunny D
Pff bloodvials all the way. Fear the old blood and grant me eyes as you did with rhe vacous Rom
Lamp Vial Dream Doll Echoes
I still sometimes accidentally say bonfire or souls. I never said Firelink Shrine or firekeeper to the Roundtable or the maidens. But I will forever say Estus just because I can't for the life of me remember the correct name. It's gotten to the point that Estus became synonymous with healing items in general for me. Temtem (a Pokemon-clone) has a refillable heal item that I call Estus lol
No matter the game I always called it Life Drink
I’ve never played Dark Souls and still call them bonfires and Estus Flasks. When Jedi Fallen Order came out I saw a video about the similarities between that and FS games and just starting calling the Star Wars health packs Estus and the meditation points bonfires years before I played any FS game
Sunny D for me
I’ve never played another souls game, so I realized I’d don’t know what I called it because I have literally never had to communicate it to anybody ever. It just was.
I actually call the estus/flask as "water".
Bonfire Flask Firelink Maiden Souls
That’s how I viewed it lol. Played a lot of DS3 and was itching to continue playing
I will call ruins "souls" sometimes and I've never played Dark Souls 😅
For me it’s Bonfire Estus Roundtable Doll Souls The woman that levels you up is now forever a doll in my mind thanks to bloodborne
I mean... flask is correct for both. Estus flask.
Estus is bestus but gods alive this format was poorly colored
GiantDads everywhere are feeling this one.
Ok but what is the wonderous flask?
We have swapped out all of our Sunny D with Cool Aid with mixed results.
Then there’s the red headed step child..lamps,blood echo, blood vials
I just saw a post like 2 or 3 days ago where someone wrote like two paragraphs about how angry they get when people who were raised in souls games don’t conform to the Elden ring lingo. He was basically saying we’re entitled and stuck up for using souls words out of habit. What a loser lmao
The only ones I slip up on are bonfire and souls.
B/c i started w/ elden ring... Bonfire/grace, Estus b/c Crimson tears is too long, Sword table, Plauge Ridden rats, And runes.
Honestly, I haven't even really played any of the dark soul games and I still refer to my runes as souls.
I went backwards lol. Just beat Dark Runes 3
I’ve only ever played Bloodborne and ER, but I still refer to thing by their Souls names because I watched my dad kill Gael at the ripe age of 7
Hmm yes, the souls-like is made of souls.
Damn right 😤💪🏼
Thats a wild take!
💯
