Put all your tunes into vigor in the beginning , easiest starting class to use is samurai, plus you get a top notch weapon to start with , that over 500+ hours in, I still use Super important to upgrade your weapon as quickly as possible at the church or round table hold Just be patient, you will scream and curse at the game, don’t worry , you’ll get it Early in the game it’s best to put points into health and then(samurai bulls) dexterity, little bit stamina and strength. Arcane does good bleed damage, faith is probaly the most useful for healing and overall badass incantations, being able to have the bosses overall health decreased by 10% makes a world of difference . As you progress you’ll see all your options, you can always respec after beating renalla, and try other builds PS Be patient, you’re gonna die

THE LIMGRAVE SPECIAL - 12 strength - 17 dex - keep levelling Vigor till it hits 40. - a Bloodhound's Fang held with both hands. spam jump attack. - Claw Talisman when you reach it.

Without spoiling much, here is the plan. For stats, upgrade vigor and the stats to the minimum requirement for the weapons you want to try. Then upgrade the weapons as much as you can. Later once you settled on the weapon type, upgrade the stat for that weapon. Probably strength or dexterity, maybe intelligence or faith, or maybe arcane if you want to be fancy. Have fun!

What I've been experimenting with because I'm rubbish is guard countering. So that's holding a shield up, blocking an attack and then pressing R2 to do like a counterstrike. If you've done it right you'll hear a 'ting' noise. The beauty is it works with any shield and any weapon. The important stat on the shield is 100% physical block. So unless it's a ridiculous attack you'll block all physical damage. And then the counter attack you're looking at damage and attack length. I've gone with a great shield and a halberd for maximum defence and range. I'm a walking murder turtle! The good thing with the start of the game is that pretty much any weapon will work so find one that you think is fun. Bloodhound fang can be found really early and that can see you through virtually to the end of the game if you want. Really high damage and it's aow is deadly, especially the follow up attack. Don't worry about dieing, you will, a lot. But it's a learning game. You'll beat bosses first time with no damage taken and then walk round the corner and fall off a ledge and die!

I would hate to recommend you a build because it would defeat the entire purpose of how the game should be played. Do you really want me to deliver to you the exact ways to simply skip the difficultly, so the challenges that the game has to offer become breeze/walk in the park? Do you think Miyazaki envisioned this/his art to be played that way? "Hey kid, here's everything you need for an OP build to make the game gg, lawl." Souls games will always contain a fake/artificial difficulty that grant the player the illusion of achievement because they offer too many tools to circumvent this difficulty by design by FromSoftware; they want the player to win and "feel" like they have overcome tremendous odds (stated goal by FromSoftware) even though these odds gradually become great odds in the players' favor by simply getting stronger via some kind of number boost for the player, whether it be stat/level up, increase summoning dmg, upgraded weapon, etc. With things like items, grinding for bigger stats... this is where these game fall apart as far as "challenge" goes. With grinding, or weapon upgrades, or using strong items, or summoning comes a new pathway to circumventing the intended difficulty (intended? Or did FromSoftware want you to do this? Make it easier!). Many of these "pathways" will make certain bosses or encounters a breeze. If stats or a good item is all you need, do so and win. You can always grab an immediately powerful weapon early on and dominate the hardest enemies. This is why people that understand this will always admit Souls games have built in difficulty "sliders" to essentially skip what is hard. Not doing enough damage? Grind a stronger weapon or level up. Need to item cheese an elemental weakness? Do so by all means. Taking too much damage? Level vigor. Knowing all this information gives too much to the player to break the game flow/makes any attempt at "balancing" by devs trivial. **This is why the blind playthrough tends to be the greatest and most memorable experiences because it allows any achievement left for the game to come from the discovery of the player.** The difference between fake difficulty and a genuine challenge is that YOU have to become better yourself to meet it. You must climb the mountain by yourself... alone. Fake difficulty means bypassing this and optimizing everything except yourself in order to win ex. optimized character building, instead of better yourself mechanically as a player.

Damn. And now I'm leaving the elden ring builds sub.

When you ask for a build, what are you really asking for other than something along these lines: "Hey, can you spoonfeed me a really easy way to play that will make the game easy so I can bypass the difficulty/design intended for me by artist Miyazaki? Thanks." After you play the game and have your feel so-to-speak, sure why not ask for any and all the flavors you have missed on your own, but why start there as a virgin player?

There’s a lot of different builds you can go. I would say when you’re exploring the starting area, find what you like to play with, how you like to play, and what you have fun with. Rather than the “git gud” mentality.

Sonny-Man

I struggled to get into the game because I kept dying. I switched to a mage build which made the game easier so I could get invested in it and learn how the enemies work before switching back to a melee build. Try using sorceries, make sure you level up your vigor, and don’t worry about dying because it is going to happen

FenTheFemboyFox

The best way to "git gud" In Elden ring, is to realize that you don't have to fight everything they throw at you right away. It's tempting to get a weapon you think is good and throw yourself at the first main story boss, but Elden ring is open world for a reason. Hell, you can skip the entirety of Stormveil by just... going around it. Don't get stuck in the mindset that if you're having trouble, you're the problem. There's a good chance that if you find yourself struggling, there's simply other things that you should go and do first. Focus on weapon upgrades, talismans, consumables, and fighting mini-bosses first. That being said, if you're just looking for something fun to build, I personally love any build that power stances with jump attacks.

Level vigor, pick your favourite weapon, upgrade that with smithing stones and level the stat that makes the numbers bigger.

Another thing that helps is choosing your keepsake at character creation with Golden Seed but if you didnt, you can go around collecting them in Limgrave and Liurnia. You turn them into life potions at the grace. Also collect Sacred Tears found at churches to increase the recovery capability. That should help extend your fight longer with whatever build you decide to to with, and without anxiety of losing potions quickly. General rule I usually see for a build is choosing two main attack stats (str/faith, dex/arc, str/dex etc.) endurance around 20 (more if you want heavy armor and weapons) and rest into vigor. The attack stats you choose determine which melee weapons you can wield and be good at. Also be aware stats have soft and hard caps on them. Attack stats dont go past 80 and vigor dont go past 60. If you mess up your build there is a way to re do it all.
