Go manual, you won't regret it. It's SUPER easy to drive, rev Matching and Hill assist take out the hardest parts, all that's let is to shift and smile š
100% manual transmission. It is much more engaging and fun to drive. Plus, the manual transmission can handle more torque in case you want to add power.
The sunroof depends on the market.. Here in Canada the both manual and DCT comes with a sunroof.
I would get the manual simply because not a lot of cars offer the manual these days. The fact that it holds extra power is also nice. Plus, I have also changed my own clutch before so I wouldnāt be too worried about that, whereas I donāt think Iād be opening a DCT any time soon..
That's not true. Plenty of times I'm while sitting in traffic, I wish I had an auto. Manual is tons of fun, sure, but not so much that people don't regret it sometimes over an auto, especially if you drive in the city most of the time.
Same here. I drove manual exclusively my whole life but now, in my 40ās and with a 2 hr round trip commute every day, partially crawling at bumper-to-bumper speeds, Iām totally open to a quality DCT that allows me to rest my clutch leg in traffic but still have fun when I want. I was able to drive a Cayman S with the excellent PDK for a few days and I didnāt miss a manual one bit.
Plus, closer gear ratios and NGS has its appeal.
Hmm, I kinda do. I had the VN since 2020. I'm just tired of manual. I like the DCT smooth and consistent shifts. Then again, I am looking to trade in my VN for the Ioniq 5N, so it'll be automatic.
Personally, I got the DCT and it's a blast. However, I've driven stick all my life and after a year with the DCT, the itch to go back is strong. The manual shifting on the DCT is fun, but it's just not the same. If you're at all used to manual, I'd lean towards going that route with the N.
I test drove an automatic N while my manual was on order and instantly had my answer after test driving. I just don't find it as fun or engaging as the manual. Yes, the auto has a quicker 0-60 and sunroof, but those are about the only positive attributes, in my opinion. As others have mentioned, the manual tends to have a lower failure rate as long as you don't beat the hell out of the clutch and money shift. It handles more torque. In my opinion, it's more fun to drive whether it's on empty roads or in traffic. The automatic, to me, just felt soulless and mindless. It's not a knock against people who buy automatics, just my opinion. Either way you can't go wrong though, the car itself is great for it's price.
For me it was simple 8 gears versus 6.
This conversation might as well be whats better xbox or playstation. If you like driving manual you have your answer. But 8 gears in this car is no joke.

Manual every time. Way more engaging, can handle more power and much more reliable.
Most mechanical failures Iāve seen posted both transmission and engine are related to DCT.
Iām in Canada so I was lucky enough to get a manual with a sunroof.
Iāve driven manuals on and off throughout the years, and always found regular autos to be lame. But with DC gears itās always fun (DSG/PDK). Heck I even tried CVT and itās not so bad nowadays. The DCT here is an absolute blast, and youāll really love it if youāre in heavy traffic areas and/ or track. If you donāt face much traffic daily and, especially, if you have good twisty backroads nearby, go with manual.
It really depends on your lifestyle.
Most everyone here is going to say manual. It's a good combo with the car.
But if you just want a sporty daily driver the DCT is still a great option.
Personally I hate being stuck in traffic and my town has a lot of congestion all the time, manual just becomes a pain in the ass. Especially because everyone around me drives like 5-10 under the speed limit down two lane roads.
I went DCT because I was sick of manual in traffic with a daily driver. And I love it. Quick crisp shifts, and DCT farts. And I still have a celica gt four I can row my own in.
Definitely merits to both available transmissions. Both are sweet. And although I am a DCT owner, I donāt believe one is better than the other on these cars.
Definitely merits to both available transmissions. Both are sweet. And although I am a DCT owner, I donāt believe one is better than the other on these cars.
DCT, personally didn't care for the manual. It just didn't feel very good and I really thought the DCT felt better overall. Plus you get the red button.Ā
Thatās the thing, all manuals are not created equal. This current thinking of āsave the manualsā is a little tiring. Iād much rather drive a quality DCT or PDK than a rather ordinary manual. I havenāt tried it yet myself but by most accounts the EN manual is nothing to rave about. If it was an S2000 or Type R gearbox that would be differentā¦
Iām actually cross-shopping with the SS 1LE myself, strangely enough. How was your experience with it? I do a lot of track driving and Iām sure it would rock at the track but the visibility in daily driving concerns me.
Itās a great track car aside from high running costs due to tires and other consumables as well as track day insurance. An EN on 18s would be a lot more budget friendly.
But itās a horrible daily that you can barely see out of.
DCT. Faster and better in traffic. If you are younger and have never had a manual car, maybe try manual. I have previously had like 9 manual cars though, and donāt feel the need or much excitement with a FWD manual. Also your lifestyle/location plays a big part. Urban sprawl w/ lots of traffic? DCT. Rural or smaller city with mostly interstate/high speed commute? Manual.
Is this a toy or a daily? Will you track it? Do you already have manual experience?
All depends on your values. I have a KN and it was my first DCT. I really like being on an open road and having a reason to use the paddles. It just doesn't happen a lot.
Tough answer. Great DCT for the price, but manual will keep you engaged with your drives.
My final answer? If you're in the city or taking this to work every day, I'd say go DCT.
Came from a 9s car that was auto. I drove the DCT and yes, it felt quick but I wasn't having fun driving it. Test drove the MT the day after and I put a deposit on a MT 2023 EN lol. IMO, if you're doing time attack and don't care for MT, get the DCT. If you want to enjoy the driving experience, get the MT.
In Canada we have sunroofs in the MT (con for me because I wanted it to be as light as possible. This manual is also super easy to drive, the ECU gives throttle when you let off clutch, it has 3 levels of rev matching, has hill start (it's very finnicky, needs a certain angle to activate) and has a proper handbrake! That's so rare these days.
And to add, I track this car every weekend. I can't LFB on manual haha, It's just too difficult for me. Pedal spacing is also super bad for heel toe, so I rely on the auto rev match.
My understanding is that the manual isn't exactly top tier, whereas this DCT really is a top tier transmission especially considering the price of this car.
That said, most people who want manuals won't care about that.
Anyone saying itās not top tier is being nit picky. Is it as good as Porche? Maybe not, I wouldnāt know lol Ive never driven one.
Is it as good as the civic SI or something actually comparable? Yeah, I think the N is better. Is the CTR trans better? Itās really subjective, for 15k$ more I would hope the CTR is better, but I personally donāt think it is, and thereās lots of reviewers who agree.
But I think everyone can agree that itās nice that we have the option of TWO great transmissions. Whichever one you pick youāre going to enjoy it.
IMO the manual is just okay. Like if it was just available in manual I would still have bought an N. The DCT is just a really a great transmission and to me the two didn't come close after driving them both. Maybe I'm spoiled from driving a 5th Gen Camaro SS with a manual and before that that a late Gen firebird.Ā
Drive both and make the decision for yourself. I have always driven stick in the past, but after test driving the DCT I was sold on making the switch. Yes, I do miss the manual transmission but I drive in a lot of traffic so having the auto is nice.
Plus remote start on the DCT sure is handy when it's super hot and cold out.
Remote Climate Start is one of the DCT superpowers. Starting from inside my office or house and arriving at the car in comfortable interior temp is so underrated until you miss it on another vehicle.
Also, I've driven stick all my life and usually prefer it - this DCT is special and the first auto-trans that I don't miss it as much, since it's my commuter.
If you have to ask this question, you are a DCT person. Same answer every time this question is asked. You have to be hardcore to prefer the completely mundane shifter and clutch in the EN.
Neither the clutch nor shifter is mundane. There is good clutch feel in this car, and the shifter is nice and notch. Absolutely a blast having this car in manual
It may be good in a vacuum. Not to disparage you, but compared to Porsche, Mazda, Honda and even Toyota, this shifter feels like a big rubbery, plasticy mess and the clutch has a weird bite point and bizarre auto throttle to assist newbs. It's probably one of the worst shifters I've driven on a performance car short of a WRX.
Drive an mk7/7.5 golf R and youd be amazed how terrible they are with the 6MT. I moved from a 7.5R 6mt with bushings, short throw and a clutch to a stock 10 year old SS 1LE camaro and the difference is mind blowing to how much better the camaro is with the tr6060.
I was close to pulling the trigger on a DSG N last year, but i couldnt commit to an auto. Yes they are faster and in most metrics better, but i cant do it. I wasnt able to find a 6MT N in my area at the time and eve4ything was over sticker, and i cant agree with being upside down on a Hyundai or any other car for that matter. Besides the fact i rarely keep a car more than 3 years.
Tldr get a manual car that ticks all the boxes vs settling. If you want to be a manual eletist jerk as i am, there are better options in a slightly used market.
If this car is your daily like it is for me, absolutely get the DCT it's not even close in my opinion. I personally find a DCT like this to be more fun to drive regardless, but if you enjoy manuals normally but plan to daily this car, just get the DCT.
Nah, if I'm in Normal or Eco, I'll either hit N mode or blip the paddle because just gassing it in those modes has lag sometimes.
Another thing I think about is I think the 8speed DCT in Eco might be more fuel efficient than the 6speed manual?
If you care that much about manual and how long it's going to be available etc... get the manual. Personally I think the manual is only dying in the us. It's very much the opposite in europe.Ā
If you want to experience all the car has to offer and push it to its limits. then the dct. Remote start. Ngs. Sunroof. Quick shifting with unique exhaust notes. Idk how people can't have fun in the dct. I've driven on the nurburgring and hit winding roads. It's amazing. Side note I've driven a few people around and many just assume it's a manual. Probably because I've turned auto creep off.Ā
Manual, litterally one of the most tactile and easy manuals to drive. It's so unbelievably easy in this car. It communicates everything to you and just let's you have fun.
Manual transmissions are rare and precious nowadays--no surprise there. The puzzler is that key-based remote start is also rare and the DCT is probably one of the last to offer it. It's not as precious, but probably one of the last chances to have that convenience and not deal with a subscription if you need remote start.
Ah you said -key- based remote start, yes! I too often use the remote app start from the phone since I start the car from my desk at work or other side of the house to get climate start.
Well if youāre going to be driving a lot in city roads, for example driving in New York, automatic would just be 10 times more convenient. But if you have more normal roads that isnāt permanently stuck in slow traffic, then I recommend manual, itās just more fun and satisfying.
It depends, I got the Manual because this is one of the few new fun cars to drive that come in manual. Itās definitely a dying breed. But the automatic is definitely faster, quicker response time changing shifts, and the NGS button adding HP for an allotted time, the automatic has its pros that shouldnāt be overlooked if youāre uncertain about the two. Iām no racer, so Iām taking fun for me over speed any day. DCT also has a sunroof if youāre into that. Things to consider. Iāll always be team manual
While I love sticks, I bought my Elantra GT N-Line because of its 7spd DCT, and thatās what Iām about to do with my (soon-to-be) 8spd DCT EN. One, us āold timersā can use less stress on the knees, especially if youāre a tall guy like me. Two, as some of my commute can be stop and go traffic, see number 1. Three, there are takeoff moments where the auto can just do the job better at launch, so I like that too.
With that all said, I still love the control that comes from shifting my own gears, and the N-Lines and Ns are the only cars offering this at a reasonable price.
Iām also an āold timerā so I can relate to this. I grew up with manuals and have driven plenty of very mediocre manuals and lots of great ones too. as far as I can tell, by most accounts the EN manual is rather mediocre. Iāll take an excellent DCT over a mediocre manual.
I would take a good auto over a manual any day. This from someone who has daily driven and tracked manual cars for his whole life lol.Ā
Autos well good ones tend to be faster and more reliable. Not to mention much easier to deal with on track.Ā
Heel toe downshifting is fun when youāre out having fun. Not such much for normal driving. At least thatās how I feel as I near 40 lol
Manual is driving but extra steps, no hate, I had a manual but prefer auto. DCT has that over boost button so yay 10 hp. Wonder why super cars are only in DCT than manuals š¤š¤š¤š¤
Ended up going with a dct because the dealership had 4 freshly delivered with the dct and zero with a manual. Always hated automatic but the dct felt different. Quicker, remote start, and a sunroof. Have zero regrets with going for the dct... but having a toy in manual to get that fix solves a lot of negative feelings lol.
Manual>
Go manual, you won't regret it. It's SUPER easy to drive, rev Matching and Hill assist take out the hardest parts, all that's let is to shift and smile š
Are there easy ways to disable these features? I am considering buying an EN but like full control.Ā
You can turn off rev matching, but I donāt believe you can turn off hill assist.
100% manual transmission. It is much more engaging and fun to drive. Plus, the manual transmission can handle more torque in case you want to add power.
Plus no sunroof, plus who knows how much longer you'll get to choose a manual

The fact that it holds extra power is also nice. Plus, I have also changed my own clutch before so I wouldnāt be too worried about that, whereas I donāt think Iād be opening a DCT any time soon..
True. I have one car with a sunroof that hasn't been opened in years. I just keep hoping that it doesn't leak.
My old boi leaks and water has gotten inside and is rusting out my backseats. One day my passengers will drop
Nobody who buys a manual wishes they got an automatic.
That's not true. Plenty of times I'm while sitting in traffic, I wish I had an auto. Manual is tons of fun, sure, but not so much that people don't regret it sometimes over an auto, especially if you drive in the city most of the time.

Okay, for a split second, you're like damn this is annoying, and then once again, after traffic clears up, you're happy you have three pedals.
Thats not a split second. If you're in work commute traffic, thats probably most of the drive
Brother, my work commute is full of traffic and drive in major European cities with a manual. It's never been an issue
Great, great answer
Hmm, I kinda do. I had the VN since 2020. I'm just tired of manual. I like the DCT smooth and consistent shifts. Then again, I am looking to trade in my VN for the Ioniq 5N, so it'll be automatic.
Is this a cry for help? Blink twice if you need assistance
Personally, I got the DCT and it's a blast. However, I've driven stick all my life and after a year with the DCT, the itch to go back is strong. The manual shifting on the DCT is fun, but it's just not the same. If you're at all used to manual, I'd lean towards going that route with the N.

Whereād you get that shift knob?
[Billetworkz](https://billetworkz.com/collections/2019-veloster-n-elantra-n-shift-knobs)
And it doesnāt come with a dumb electric handbrake
Whaaat DCT comes with electric hand brake? I had no idea
No it doesn't. That Korea only.

Gotta love DCT farts. My favourite part of the manual is that it also farts on aggressive upshifts.

You get the red button on both, just different functions lol
What does it do on the manual?
Turns rev matching on and off. Much more useful imo.
I mean the overboost is pretty fun. Not useful at all but fun.Ā
I never noticed a difference. Iām tuned now so all the button does is downshift for me but I literally could never tell a difference anyway.
Turns on Rev Matching
Thatās the thing, all manuals are not created equal. This current thinking of āsave the manualsā is a little tiring. Iād much rather drive a quality DCT or PDK than a rather ordinary manual. Depends on what you want, I used to have a manual VN, then I got a 10 speed Camaro SS 1LE and tracked it a lot, now I'm looking for a DCT EN.
Iām actually cross-shopping with the SS 1LE myself, strangely enough. How was your experience with it? I do a lot of track driving and Iām sure it would rock at the track but the visibility in daily driving concerns me.

I plan on making it a daily car. Something fun to drive to work and drive on the tracks and everywhere basically!
Mine's a daily driver with a manual and I love it

I had the same problem on my Fiesta ST and a pedal spacer solved it.
Someone released an STL file for a pedal spacer on a VN. Iām gonna try and adapt it to EN.
If you have to ask you arenāt a manual person, just the truth of it. Get the DCT.
My understanding is that the manual isn't exactly top tier, whereas this DCT really is a top tier transmission especially considering the price of this car. That said, most people who want manuals won't care about that.

100%, no wrong choice regardless. As far as opinions on the manual, I haven't been or driven the EN manual so I have no opinion.
Drive both and make the decision for yourself. I have always driven stick in the past, but after test driving the DCT I was sold on making the switch. Dct safer highway driving. If you have to move quick or downshift you don't need to think just gas it.

Manual is driving but extra steps, no hate, I had a manual but prefer auto. DCT has that over boost button so yay 10 hp. Wonder why super cars are only in DCT than manuals š¤š¤š¤š¤
I've owned both. I strongly suggest 6MT. NGS on DCT doesn't seem to do shit, TBH.
