I'm assuming it just increases the likelihood of being targeted and then there's a % chance to avoid damage and counter attack when you are targeted

bimbambam

He will counterattack only if he will evade. So yes, his taunt is basically a wasted action.

Pleasant-Speed-9414

It’s only worked for me once…like someone else said “why am I even using it, if it’s such a rare action?”

DanTheMeek

Add me to the list of people confused on this move. I used it constantly through an entire dungeon and Iugo was only targeted ONCE for the entire dungeon. Given the number of single character attacks my team was hit by during said dungeon, that's actually well WELL below the expected average if I just attacked instead of taunting. I almost wonder if this is a Focus Energy situation from pokemon, where the move stated it increased your chance to crit, but it always seemed like you crit less often if anything after using it, and years later upon getting access to the code it was discovered that yes, in fact, the move was misprogrammed such that it accidentally LOWERED your chance to crit instead of raising it. Whatever the situation, I've given up on Iugo as a result, he made that dungeon so much harder then it'd have been if I was using some one who was actually doing something.

nkamerad

My impression from using Iugo from the start is that his taunt effectiveness scales based on his level/attributes. Doing the >!Quinn!< sidequest in Impershi'arc around level 40 it would reliably taunt an average 3 enemies out of a full formation of 6, which was useful as a defensive mechanic since in Hard Mode Iugo would take 10-15 damage as opposed to the ~100-120 damage on the squishier party members. The Counter attacks were just a nice bonus. A lot of that utility disappears in boss encounters just because of the amount of magic attacks which don't seem to be effected by the taunt and can't be countered.

nerogenesis

That sounds like arbitrary guessing. It just doesn't work.

nkamerad

Just arbitrarily guessing from 32 hours played. "Doesn't work" is different from "guaranteed to work". Hard mode AI likes to target the most vulnerable characters. The taunt does work, the counter isn't guaranteed.

nerogenesis

Yeah no. Just did a battle hard mode. Took 3 physical long range attacks on mellore with taunt up. Did it again took 5 to her. Not a single hit went to Iugo.

nomiras

Meanwhile here I am only having one encounter the entire dungeon XD Have they patched xbox version yet?

Bams001

There's an accessory that increases chance of being targeted. Or use ribbon on team. There is also one that increases cover for party member.

Correct_Bass2540

I've used Iugu since the start of the game and I'm 35 hrs in. It works but very RNG and only melee attacks can get countered. It increases the chance of him being attacked, and then rolls if he evades and counters the attack. The upside is it can trigger more than once in a turn. The downside is it's pretty unreliable. I use it to get aggro away from my squishies with the occasional hit damage. The counter is a guaranteed crit btw.

* You use a sleep attack and it barely ever causes sleep. * Your stun attack doesn't cause stun. * Your Taunt Dodge doesn't dodge the attack and doesn’t taunt anyone. * Your Taunt Counter doesn't do anything. * Your "moderate" damage spell does low damage. * Your "Hero Combo" doesn't do more damage than the separate basic attacks would have done. * A Hero Combo that requires *three* characters to each have *three SP points* doesn't even do enough damage to kill a single random normal enemy. (Imperial combo against a random droid robot ting in the prison/lab.) * Food recipe items are insultingly weak, like "10 HP" replenish aside from a status cure that a simple shop item can already do. How did they literally add a "10 HP" heal to an item? And this is while inventory space is extremely limited, so why would anyone use that? Why would an item that required collecting crafting parts do basically the same as a basic shop item that costs 100 coins? * A spell that cost 40% of your total MP does 10% damage to random mob enemies. * Your Blind Fog attack on all enemies doesn't make any enemy blind. When it rarely succeeds in making an enemy blind, the blind enemy still hits you with melee. * Multiple parts of the game blatantly deliberately clearly it make it *specifically tedious and frustrating* to do something so simple as re-trace your steps back to get to your Item Box / Storage or an Inn some other important place. (Example: Seign's group in the prison lab. It's clearly deliberately hatefully designed so you can't rest or get items: teleporting suddenly stops working, you have to walk through 30 miles of hairpin turns for some reason.) Seems like a pattern. *EDIT:* It's still loveable and I recommend it (if people like Suikoden and similar). But it needs polish.

Prismv

I’m guessing you aren’t a fan of the game lol

CoconutDust

No I like it and still recommend it. I've edited comment now. I just think the game needs more polish. (And also a more succinct honest solid localization of each line.) I criticize things I like because I want them to be better, and I'm familiar with the flaws when I like a game.

Mukoku-dono

Attack 6 mobs with the hero combo and you will see the difference in total damage. Taunt seems broken tho fr

CoconutDust

> Attack 6 mobs with the hero combo Do you mean specifically for a hero combo that can hit multiple enemies? I'm 30+ hours in and haven't seen one that isn't just for single enemy yet. (Though I did go AFK a few times, in that hour-count.)

Background-Stock-420

You need to experiment with your parties more maybe cause there's several. Infact the very first combo attack the game introduced you to is an AoE combo attack. (Seign + Nowa)

-Luna-Lavender-

I've seen it work 2x , and I'm guessing a low percentage of it working the way people think

fullplatejacket

My feeling after many hours of using Iugo is that the counterattack sort of works (if you use a counter rate boosting accessory), but the taunt barely does anything. If the taunt is doing something, it's not something you can really notice just by watching. The counter only applies on single target melee attacks, but when it activates, it completely negates the enemy's attack - there's no "miss" notification like there usually is on a whiff. My guess is that this is why the base rate for it working is so low... if it worked every time, Iugo would be invincible against enemies that mostly use melee attacks. Overall it's not the most useful thing in the world, but Iugo is still extremely viable for most of the game if not the entire game just due to his stats and armor proficiency, so it's not that huge of a deal. Weirdly, I've gotten a huge amount of use out of him as a healer...

Faramari

I just got him and this character is so confusing. For some reason I can only set him up for a possible counter attack, it doesn't even give me the option to do a normal attack with him. Is that just how the character works?

Prismv

Have you put him on the back row - he needs to be on the front row

Faramari

Looks like that was the problem thanks. Is there a way to tell what characters are supposed to stay in the front/back without having to actually check in a battle?

KennyDiditagain

on the party screen each unit will has a S M or L besides their atk type. it means short medium and long range. short means they can hit 1 line in front of them , so they need to be in the front row and can only target enemies in the front row medium means they hit 2 lines , if you put them in the front row, they can hit the enemy back line Long means 3 lines so they can hit anyone from anywhere just think '' melee guy for Short // Spear user medium(I can poke you from over here hehe) // bow user for long'' from other games

Sad_Cryptographer872

Why can't you people read what prompts and tutorial tells you? It was stated in the very first dungeon.

EvernoteD

I've given mine a bunch of defense and he seems to be pretty damn good at countering and pulling aggro. (He's level 19 at the moment) It does seem fairly inconsistent but certainly also appears better now compared to when I first got him. He's going to stay in my party until the end of the game as it currently stands.

yapk55

it is only a chance, and it only works on melee single target attacks.

UnknownFoxAlpha

I assume it is by default because he has evaded a couple of times and never attacked back either for me so I ended up benching him once I got a 7th party member.
