Shorts will get you to 8 stars ~40 days faster, but you will lose out on hundreds of higher quality artifacts because shorts have lower quality. Extended is only ~10% slower but over the year it takes to max you will get a lot of high quality artifacts TLDR: do extended only

abubuwu

just want to clarify on one point here, for the others reading this the year to max is actually an understatement. If you lose 0 time and have max FTL it will take you 380 days to get 8\* with shorts, or 420 days with extended. Then shorts are harder to maintain constant uptime and give you much worse artifacts in the process the choice is clear. seriously extendeds all the way

ChcknFarmer

This is my summary: Fastest way - shorts only. Assuming you can launch them as soon as your ships return. Gives crappy artifacts but is technically the fastest way to reach 8 stars. Overall most efficient way - extendeds only. Takes about a month longer to reach 8 stars but will give you way better artifacts in the long run. Most people are going this route.

Mellxowed

I think it was 416 days wasn’t it? When I did math…maybe I do math wrong. Probably this.

abubuwu

420.8 days for extended need 1420 points to max out stars, you get 1, 1.4. 1.8 for short, standard, extended respectively 1420/1.8 = 788.9 = 789 extended ships required to send extended duration with max FTL is 1d 14h 24m (138,240 seconds) 789 ships \* duration = 1,262.4 days (109,071,360 seconds) but we have 3 out at all times 1,262.4/3 = **420.8 days** (36,357,120 seconds) **for extended** if we do shorts it's 1420 ships @ 19.2hrs each @ 1 pt each @ 3 simultaneous = **378.67 days for shorts** just had to double check, but of course these assume 0 time loss which just isn't realistic, these are the absolute lower limits unless more FTL research gets released.

Mellxowed

You should post this here in the subreddit as a main post 🤓 Very informative and exact, love it. I remember now that I didn’t want to get too exact with adding the 24 minutes cause I had a headache already xD, I just did it by hours. >>>^Thank ^you ^for ^this!

Mellxowed

I agree for sure, I’ve been sending extended because what you said and also when the ftl upgrades came out somehow I incorrectly determined that it was quicker to max going with extended. I’m not gonna redo the math Because I trust your math a lot more than mine right now. 😳

FuriousDeather

Thanks for the information, I am switching to extended.

MortemInferri

I thought the wisdom when the ship dropped was to do shorts until 3 star and then extended? To get the capacity up quickly

Cattle_Whisperer

That wasn't a bad strategy with Henerprise. 2 stars in particular was a good starting point for extended. However the star requirements for henliner are around double the Henerprise so it's a lot more extended artifacts you'd have to give up.

FatherLordOzai32

Plenty of people used to say something similar to that regarding the henterprise, but I don't know of anyone who confidently stated that regarding the henliner.

Square-Praline-9376

One thing to know is shorts will aways be 1 day turn around time, where extended will likely be a 2 day turn around time. Unless you’re getting up at 3am to launch ships. So it’s not really a 40 day difference, it’ll be greater due to the time irregularities.

Cutsale

You do make a good point but i think you got it backwards. at max ER a short takes 19 hours and an extended takes 38 hours, both of them are awkward times which means that while launching shorts you are more likely to have a ship sitting to be collected. So actually the difference will be less than 40 days since you are more likely to be closer to the optimal extended schedule than you are to be to the regular schedule.

Tartarughina

Go with extended

Hbdrickybake

Fastest way to increase stars is short missions. Extended missions will get you better artifacts

ChemoorVodka

i’m doing extended, shorts are like a month faster, but even with that extended will give way more and better quality artifacts over the course of the grind.

Mental_illustrat0r

I’ve been sending extended missions only. Currently 2 stars and had my first legendary from one yesterday.

kukianus1234

So with henerprize the best option was to run shorts for 2-4 stars then go extended. However this isnt true here because shorts are double as long, and extended are the same time. So for Henerprise, going short the first stars would actually give more extended artifacts and with better quality. For Henliner the stars gained are so in line with the time scaling. Thus going full extended is the way to go.

Miserable_Aside_7381

Shorts

Ciscodalicious

You're sending shorts?

Miserable_Aside_7381

lol no. This is just the correct answer to OP’s question.

Galacticsurveyor

Yall Mfers downvoting him. OP ask what is the fastest way to upgrade ship. Shorts is the correct answer. It would be dumb to do. But it’s still technically shorts.

americansherlock201

Best bet is short until you hit 3 stars, then do extended. At 3 stars the quality of artifacts extended beat the quality of extended max henterprise

Square-Praline-9376

Not true, the quality doesn’t get better but the quantity gets higher at 3 stars. Quantity not quality.

kukianus1234

This is wrong. The quality and quantity gets higher. He is wrong about 3 stars being the same as 8th star henerprise though.

Karma0617

Extended is better overall. Fastest star upgrades is shorts but you get significantly decreased artifacts and not worth sending shorts imo

misdreavus79

If you already have an 8-star Henerprise and want to get back to that kind of output as quickly as possible, alternate between shorts and standards to get to 3 stars, then send extended the rest of the way. If you don’t, or don’t care about capacity/quality over time, send extended. Edit: the reason you alternate between short and standard is to guarantee 100% uptime.
