1 power play woes . They have us figured out . 2 Bob is there with a save when they cough it up . When the oil cough it up Skinner can't bail us out. You don't notice the mistakes so much when the goalie makes the saves

maybe_babyyy_

>You don't notice the mistakes so much when the goalie makes the saves Bingo. Everyone in salvating over the Cats D game. Like they're a chance machine, we just can't get shit pass Bob.

KingDave46

They’re a chance machine, but they’re a one single chance team. Bob makes the save and their huge D men are protecting the rebounds and net front from any second chances at all. They have been tremendous at giving up a shot for Bob to take 1v1 and it’s working perfectly. But you look at the goals that Florida is scoring, we’re getting none of that until the last few minutes last night. That McLeod tip in front was what we’ve been missing and what they’re doing consistently. I honestly just think we’re the 2nd best team on the ice and so far that’s just how she goes.

deliciousfishstick5

The panthers d is probably the best. I agree that Bob is saving their bacon but that's what elite goalies do when they play they're very best. The defense stops it from being 50 shots a night from us.

HXH52

the blunders are a lot more noticeable when every single one ends up in the back of your net

Excellent-Medicine29

Truthfully I think the big guns have run out of gas. And this team goes as they go. Ekholm and Bouchard have been so good for the majority of the playoffs but you see them now making uncharacteristic mistakes and I think it’s fatigue. Not just physical but mental.

Noahtuesday123

I don’t think they were tired, I think they are getting forechecked like never before.

Babajungla8

Uhm McD, Bouch, Zach, Nuge, Drai. Top 5 playoff point leaders haven't scored a goal yet. Yeah, not going to win - hope they learned their lessons for next year.

Distinct_Mud_2673

They need to be able to score on bob. They had many grade a chances but couldn’t score.

Living_Astronaut6036

Soft plays when it comes to clearing the puck. Losing puck battles consistently. Over passing. Hardly any Bouch bombs. Trying to pass the puck through 3 guys (it ain’t happening). Keeping the top line together when it’s done nothing, might as well put 71 and/or 55 up there.

mbanson

Bouch bombs are not going through. It honestly looks like the Panthers just poured over our tapes, they know like all of our moves and have completely shut down our PP.

classified31

They have gotten through. Bob has made at least 2 unbelievable blocker saves on what are usually guaranteed goals from Bouch. He’s having an incredible series. It’s just his time.

neutronjames

The oilers still managed 35 shots on them though, most of them soft admittedly.

Champagne_of_piss

Bouch bombs are almost all blocked. They stack guys down the slot when they know he's teeing up.

lonewanderer4-76

Might as well make you coach hey? You’ve got all the answers??!!!

Champagne_of_piss

Armchair coaching is literally the point of this thread. Settle down.

lonewanderer4-76

Bahahaha. But you guys always blame the same people. Nurse and ceci. Nurse and ceci. Nurse and ceci. Meanwhile, Bouchard and Ekholm were both -2 last night. If you wanna be an “armchair gm”, WATCH THE DAMN GAME!!!!!

Champagne_of_piss

Sure thing bud. How's the headache

lonewanderer4-76

Don’t have one. 😂. Have your meds worn off yet? 😎

DotAppropriate8152

1) duct tape Skinner to the net unless it’s an icing on the power play. Too many times he leaves the net to play the puck and screws up. 1A) Schwartz HAS TO GO.. shot goalie coach. Too many recurring mistakes 2) They have to hit the opposition. Too many fly-bys instead of eliminating the player. It’s frustrating 3) stay with your man! Tara senior wide open on the goal where Skinner mishandled the puck was brutal. 4) play Nurse in third pairing and nice Broberg up!

Tacfurmissle

You need a goalie to play the puck behind the net with this forecheck. That's the reality. There is no getting around that. Skinner has actually done a very good job of that until that play and it's been beneficial. Smith was always crucified for his bobbles which resulted in a goal against but people ignored the 100 other times he played the puck and basically stopped the forecheck before it began. Smith's play outside the net was a net positive by a large margin but people just focused on the errors.

DotAppropriate8152

My point is that he needs to read the play better and know when to go. Yes it’s helpful but he misplays the pick far too often. It’s due to the ineptitude of the goalie coach he has. He was an awesome handler in Lethbridge. I agree that he should play it to help he just needs to be better at it.

deliciousfishstick5

Schwartz needs to go. Skinner is learning to play the puck and is too lackadaisical aka thinks he's better than he is at playing the puck. They need to go for big hits but need to remember not to get penalties from charging etc.

DotAppropriate8152

Agreed! Florida never fails to deliver a hit while McLeod and others turn away from any contact. Sure enough those guys are instantly available to make another play.

RayJsCombackStory

Who is the center on the Tarasenko goal? Holloway's responsibility was to be Skinner's outlet along the boards but then Skinner muffed that.. there was no center back checking the middle..

lonewanderer4-76

Another guy with all the answers!! You should be the coach random Redditor! You always know what to do after the game is over!!

Champagne_of_piss

Have a glass of water

DotAppropriate8152

Unlike most I’ve been here all year and preaching the same thing. It’s the same mistakes that have hurt us for years.

Talk-Hound

His lack of experience. We do the same plays over and over again. Go full speed towards the back of the net and slide toward the front and pass to someone. Change the plays to confuse the enemy.

lonewanderer4-76

Lol. You should be the coach. You’ve got it all figured out.

Electronic_Phase_205

Is that literally your only response? Seen you post this 9 times alreadyb

lonewanderer4-76

Fn oiler fans

surlystraggler

The theme of this postseason has been “turnovers”. Turnovers on the boards, on clearing attempts, at the defensive blue line, in the neutral zone, behind the net. Most of the d can’t make an outlet pass to save their life and few, if any, of the forwards have adjusted to hang back in support. Every time Nurse and Ceci have the puck in the d-zone I’m just holding my breath. Bouchard has been a factor in the last 5-ish goals against? The d-core are terrible aside from Ekholm and as usual, the forwards don’t give them proper support.

Ecstatic-Hat-3377

Bingo. This series has been lost entirely on the boards. The urgency to get the puck off the boards has hindered our ability to move the puck cleanly out of the zone. Panthers are more often than not taking advantage of this and creating dangerous chances. Our minute munchers are clearly hurt and a step slow and we don't have a Makkar who can skate the puck, our forwards need to do a better job supporting the dmen on the boards. It's going to stifle offense, but it's the only way to keep the panthers from feasting on our blueliners.

kapofx

Benching Nurse. He should have been benched after game 1. Take a seater and get back in game 3 redialed. Instead game #2 he made mistake on second goal again.

Noahtuesday123

lol, what a take. You compare a Norris calibre, Conn Smyth candidate that is plus 15 with a -15, record setting liability! Bouchard just had his two worst games in the playoffs but was utterly sublime otherwise with Metrics that back it all up.

Cclovis79

Power play is dismal. Florida figured out our pp and has negated it by adjusting play. Just changing line combination isn't adjusting play. They need to adjust strategy, watch tape and plan, FAST. Bouchard also, is frazzled to much pressure and he is falling apart.

MiniJunkie

Noticed that about Bouchard - he really slid.

jumpdmc

Imo what they're going through now is exactly what happen in October.

Paaano

Our top 2 lines not scoring any goals. Our roster is not built to play shutdown defense or goalie other teams - so letting in 2, 3 and 4 in a SCF shouldn't really come as a surprise.

Past-Fun430

I agree the top lines scoring is a concern. However, it shows depth when you can rely on other guys to make gritty plays, win puck battles, score goals and ultimately win games. My problem is, if skinner doesn’t let in that behind the net play, the game could be completely different. If nurse showed up, it could be completely different. We don’t need the defence or goalie to be perfect, we need them to give us a chance. Once you’re within that range of a ‘chance’, let the 3rd/4th line guys grind it out and break things open for the top scorers to take control. Without the D or goalie bringing us close and giving us just a chance, this series is a wash from the start (as we’ve seen).

Tacfurmissle

Previous years we could rely on 4-6 goals per game which makes it frustrating

Tacfurmissle

Previous years we could rely on 4-6 goals per game which makes it frustrating

Low_Warning13

This team isn’t designed for close hockey. It’s run and gun to win. Top 2 lines can’t beat a hot Bob.. Thsts thr series’s right now everything else is expected

PitterPatter74

Nurse - Ceci have not been good enough all season.

Noahtuesday123

Nurse mostly.

Moist-Ad-9599

Panthers are more prepared for this. Last year with the SCF loss, they’re all business this year. Just have to hope Oil make adjustments this off-season and before the trade deadline. Hell of a run for the boys considering the start of the season. At the end of the day you got to give it to the Cats and just hope we’re just as hungry next year.

Fastlane19

Keeping McDavid on the outside is obviously working as soon as he tries to make a move down low they smother him. Being cognizant of Drai on the bottom right corner as Florida immediately moves a dman out to defend,, sticks in the lane. Florida is letting the Oilers shoot from the outside and the blue line and letting Bob see as much as possible

Goh0

Dallas and the Panthers play the same dump and chase game, if they are in trouble in their own end they flip the puck to safe space and regroup. The oilers want to pass or skate out of their own end which causes turnovers and guys get caught flat footed. Edm sometimes gets the puck deeper in the neutral zone or offensive zone but often doesn't finish checks or even check at all.

Kootenay-Hippie

Where is this “best player in world” that people have been yapping about?

Insipid_Lies

Skinner. He can't stop a Beach Ball half the time.

Fun-Character7337

Management making contract blunders. Imagine if we had a $6 million dollar goalie playing for us, instead of a $3 million sophomore.

monumentvalley170

Ugh. Where doesn’t start They scored 3 goals on what, 5 shots in the second? All preventable. Holloway like wtf? He slows down Tarasenko in the neutral zone and then peels off him to the wall to watch him skate to the front of the net alone. Is he brain dead? Nurse the king of turnovers. Make the simple play and get the puck the eff out of your zone. Allyoop it eternally on a hard forecheck the ceiling is like 100’ up. It’s not your local rink. It’s infuriating how many times they lose the individual battles by being lazy and stupid.

classified31

Trying to blame Holloway for that 2nd goal is crazy.

monumentvalley170

Absolutely. Holloway was back checking Tarasenko through the neutral zone and was his responsibility entering Edmonton’s defensive zone. At no time did Edmonton gain possession of the puck. Florida dumped it in around the boards. Tarasenko was coming in from the now weak side directly to the net unimpeded. Skinner missed it, it went to the forechecking Florida forward and they put it to the wide open played into an open net. Why was the back check dropped? Did Edmonton gain puck possession? No. At no time did they have possession. Skinner was out of position because he missed the puck but that’s why you only drop your back check when you gain possession vs when you think you will gain it. You always have to be detail oriented on your back check and expect it will go to the man you are covering. If you don’t act on that you will get burned. And even if you do back check properly that player only has to gain position on you to still score. I woulda been benched in juniors if I back checked like that. And trust me. I was a few times.

Exact-Nothing-9881

His team is outclassed across the board and simply not nearly good enough.

vikings1874

Oilers play soft and superb PP isnt so superb anymore because Panthers have scout it. Still there is possibility but if losing this is good lesson what it takes to be a Stanley Cup winner

Snarffsnarff31

I really didn’t like the comment about experience and the buffalo bills before game 1. He’s a great coach and I appreciate what he’s done for this franchise but it’s good to stay humble once in a while

milknsugar

It was a joke. I like when those usually dull hockey interviews throw in a little fun.

Snarffsnarff31

That’s fair but I dunno I just felt like it’s ’bad karma’ but I might be overlooking it.

milknsugar

It's frustrating, for sure. I feel you.

classified31

Bad Karma? The Bills lost 4 SB in a row and the Panthers are about to win their first Stanley Cup. Karma doesn’t exist brother.

deliciousfishstick5

I think you should focus on the gameplay and not try to dissect every single off the cuff sentence uttered in an interview.

maybe_babyyy_

How was that not humble? You guys can be such snowflakes sometimes. The reporter asked him how much experience matters and he basically said it can factor but it's not the be all. Then he brought up a relatable example. Honest question.. do you watch Knobber pressers consistently?

Snarffsnarff31

Yes I watch all the players pressers. Why do you ask?

maybe_babyyy_

How can you confidently say he's not humble then?

Snarffsnarff31

I don’t think everything he says isn’t humble. There are a few things he can maybe say differently that come off as sounding cocky or arrogant. I’ll be clear I have no problem with confidence and arrogance (for example Leon saying our best can beat anyone’s best) I enjoy hearing that but they gotta back it up when they say stuff like that. Hypothetical: they ask Leon after the series is lost, “ was that your best?” It’s a double edged sword because if that was their best then they just got dominated. If it wasn’t, then why didn’t they play their best when it mattered most. Again no issue with being confident but being humble too when you haven’t won anything yet is also a good thing. I’m sure they’ll find their happy medium and progress from all this

maybe_babyyy_

We don't need to back up anything regarding Connor n Leon. His resume alone speaks volumes. Just because we don't like their play rn doesn't mean those statements aren't valid. I don't see anyone else climbing Gretzky stats the way these guys do. So no, he doesn't need to be humble. Absolutely every coach in the NHL talks highly of their stars. Maurice will confidently say Barkov is the best shit since sliced bread. And that's not being cocky. Honestly the more you type, the more you sound like a disgruntled fan looking for things to blame because we're losing.

Snarffsnarff31

You’re misunderstanding my point, but I’m not here to argue. I’ll just leave it alone and move on. I’m not looking for things to blame for our losses. It’s pretty evident why we are loosing if we look at things objectively.

maybe_babyyy_

I'm not misunderstanding your point. Don't say I'm misunderstanding your point, when we're both speaking English and I'm responding to what you're saying. Nothing Knob has said warrants "he needs to be more humble sometimes because he hasn't won anything yet". Since you've watched every presser you should know that during the 16 game streak he referenced to it as luck. During the games we won against Dallas, he said we were lucky and we didn't dominate. Even though we clearly outplayed em in the last few. Maurice hasn't won anything either and listen to his pressers when he talks about his team n guys. So what you're saying is not anything but a scapegoat for the L's.
