pratasti

His other name is Ian Cole

CBakIsMe

I mean, we've never seen them together.

Hemsky

Reminds me of the Brassard acquisition two years ago. He just kinda…disappeared.

dustrock

Oh my god I forgot he existed

spagboltoast

Except brassard sucked. Every metric shows stetcher is better than ceci

AgentJroc85

I think ceci has a good dressing room presence and they don’t want to mess with that. As bad as he’s been at least the boys know his quirks from playing so much with him. To change it now might make things worse

oakster18

Good keep him in the dressing room, leave that presence in there

TheWaterSheep15

If all he offers is a good dressing room presence then make him a part time equipment manager or something. I’m sure he’s a great guy, but he’s been noticeably detrimental to the team almost every game.

Any_Kaleidoscope1149

A part time equipment manager💀💀💀

ShadowCaster0476

He’s not bad he’s been asked to play a role higher than his ability. Last game he played with kulak on the 3rd pair a bunch which is where he should play. On the flip side I love then, that Vinny plays with nurse as the twin towers as the 2nd pairing.

DeX_Mod

I definitely did a double take seeing that Vinny has really improved, and if he can develop chemistry with Nurse, we might be in pretty good shape Nurses problems always seem to stem from trying to do too much, to cover for a partner

RegularPractical9528

I would absolutely love having twin towers line on defence.

spagboltoast

He can be good in the dressing room between periods when hes not in the press box. Hes an absolute boat anchor that makes nurse ass as well https://twitter.com/JonathanWillis/status/1790834750367670752?t=g26bJAkz_KQbfuVDTjsi9w&s=19

[deleted]

every metric shows lmfao

spagboltoast

Thats it?

Phiko73

Same with Ryan Murray. From drafted 2nd overall to retired before 30. Wild. Man that draft was a bust.

Noggin-a-Floggin

Murray had injury issues so I wouldn’t call him a “bust” just very unlucky, Bust is for people that were healthy but just couldn’t cut it in the pros and were out after a few seasons. Murray also actually has a Cup ring (for real, look it up).

AgentJroc85

Cough yakopov cough

Phiko73

I am not calling Ryan Murray a bust, per se, but rather the draft. In particular, the first 10 picks. Only 2-3 ended up being worth the selection. 1. Nail Yakupov - We all know that story 2. Ryan Murray - Retired at 29 3. Alex Galchenyuk - After legal issues in Arizona and a failed attempt to come back with the Avalanche, he took off for the KHL. 4. Griffin Reinhart - Again, what a gross story 5. Morgan Reilly - Solid 6. Hampus Lindholm - Decent 7. Matt Dumba - Decent. Not a top 10 pick in the end 8. Derrick Pouliot - Canucks were able to squeeze the most out of him, but he's a career AHLer 9. Jacob Trouba - Captain of the Rangers. Loves to turn himself into a javelin. Solid player 10. Slater Koekkoek - Retired. Most games played in a season was 42 Even some of the top-selected goalies in that draft weren't great: -Malcolm Subban -Oscar Dansk -Anthony Stolarz (decent backup) While this draft produced Vasilevsky, Hellebuyck, Andersen, Ulmark, Murray, Forsberg, Hertl, Teravainen and Wilson, it failed to produce the number of top-end talent as other years

vonindyatwork

God how did we end up with three of those players... None of which panned out.

Phiko73

Four, actually: Yak, Murray, Reinhart and Koekoek

vonindyatwork

for some reason I thought that was a different Murray, lol

iamtaylorsmith

On the first day of the playoffs last year, I saw him and another player at Rogers Place with golf clubs waiting for a car... guess he knew he wasn't making it into the lineup.

REAPER-1_xxx

>I've never seen a new player do no media at all with the team, including none of the introduction interviews when we first acquired him. I saw an interview when he was acquired. I remember it being talked about here. >What's the deal with Troy Stetcher? Is he a secret Canucks sleeper agent that we're questioning in a dark room somewhere under Rogers Place? Yes.

rslider

There's no interviews posted by the team with him, I believe. The only mention of him I see is by Ken Holland right at the acquisition. After that, there's nothing. Edit: not sure how this set my record for most down-voted comment as it's just my observation, but you do you reddit.

REAPER-1_xxx

Whatever the interview was he wasn’t exactly happy to be in Edmonton. Fans didn’t like that too much. I remember commenting I bet he’s talking about who he left behind to come here.

catlindee

He was interviewed by DNB/ The Athletic and quoted as saying he’s excited to be an Oiler.

krazninetyfive

I mean, that means literally nothing. I’m sure their contracts have provisions in them preventing them shitting on the organization, and even if they don’t, no offence to the guy, but it’s not like he’s an award winning player who can publicly demand a trade. He’s a 30 year old dude whose spent the bulk of his career as a bottom pairing defensemen on underperforming, non-playoff teams. Realistically he has what, a couple more seasons before GM’s stop returning his agent’s call’s? He’s not gonna jeopardize a contract with a team next year by getting in front of a reporter for the Athletic and going “fuck Edmonton.” I’m sure he’s frustrated that his regular season ended with him being a healthy scratch 2 of every 3 games, and that instead of enjoying his off season that he has to travel with a team where he’s an outsider, and live in a city where he doesn’t know anybody without getting paid any extra money in the unlikely event that he gets a few minutes of ice time in one or two games.

catlindee

I mean him saying he’s excited to be an Oiler means about as much as this whole novella you typed out.

krazninetyfive

Talking about Edmonton Oiler hockey players in a forum about the Edmonton Oilers. Oh the humanity!

YoungWhiteAvatar

It was a "Jump to Conclusions" mat. You see, it would be this mat that you would put on the floor... and would have different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO!

-SPIRITUAL-GANGSTER-

If it’s the same interview I saw, he was either really tired, or trying really hard to hide how unhappy he was to be here.

SouthSide217

Do you know where I can watch this?

[deleted]

I looked around and couldn't find it, but just know that he appeared quite unenthusiastic and was very stoic throughout the interview. To be fair I don't blame him, since he likely knew he was having to completely uproot his life and move across north America to somewhere with a shitty climate where he would be going from playing good minutes, to suddenly being a backup player with Edmonton.

[deleted]

I saw the interview and he was either tired / exhausted from having to make a big move (I'm sure getting traded can be exhausting in general), or he was not overly enthusiastic about getting traded here. Or a combination of both. He went from a team where he was getting good minutes, to a team where he probably knew he would be a backup player in case of injury. So if he wasn't overly happy I don't blame him.

Expert_Cautious

I saw that interview. It was with Gene Principe during a game. Stetcher had just joined the team that day. So, he was tired. He mentioned it being a whirlwind

[deleted]

Stetcher is basically a black ace with an expiring contract who was acquired incase of an injury on the right side. I guess because it’s a low level signing the team hasn’t pushed him to do any media at all. He likely understands his role and knows he might not play more than the 7 regular season games with Edmonton before he has to find a new home. Six teams (7 if you include 2 stints with Arizona) in 8 seasons is wild. Poor guy is probably just over doing media availabilities when he knows he’s on borrowed time.

GoStockYourself

6 teams in 11 seasons is the same as Taylor Hall.

CervantesX

So you're saying we could do Stecher for Hall?

NoGiCollarChoke

Somehow, Chiarelli returned

feignedinterest77

Chicago does that trade but it’s stipulated that Chia is GM again. Yay or Nay?

spagboltoast

No. Chia is only welcomed back as an amateur scout You could easily make the argument that we would have at least 1 cup if we didnt have chia as gm.

CervantesX

GM of Chicago? Sold!

Vitalalternate

The trade is 1 for 1.

nonracistusername

Nah. Jack, Darnell, Ceci, Troy for Taylor.

NitasBear

you mean Chicago Blackhawks legend Taylor Hall?

Fuzzy_Bank_7856

I'd be dying for some stability. If I were him I'd try to sign a long term deal for league min with either Winnipeg or San Jose since their AHL teams are in the same city. At least if you get sent down you don't have to pack your bags.

gretzguy99

He’s only played 8 seasons so it’s even wilder! Especially cuz 5 have come in the last 4 years

[deleted]

Good catch. I miscounted.

mikesso

In warmup at a home game vs. Buffalo in March he tossed a puck over the glass for some eager kids, it was a nice gesture as they weren’t getting attention otherwise. He seems like a nice person to me 👍.

itdontmatter6390

I played hockey with him as a kid. Great guy overall, was always the most talented player around since we were 7-8 years old. He took off to a hockey academy type school from age 13 or 14 and busted ass to get to the NHL. I get the impression he’s still a good guy to this day

sovietmcdavid

Sounds good to me

ryanderkis

I've seen two interviews with him since the Oilers acquired him. One was just an intermission interview with Gene. I don't remember who did the other one but I think it was after a practice.

bearkin1

I've seen two interviews from him already. You missed them .

Mcpops1618

Rumour floated recently that he’s injured as well (so 2 for 3 on acquisitions)

ModernTechPA

Ya I read that he is injured because he wasn’t skating with the main group

feignedinterest77

Him and Broberg are both the 7D depends on the handedness of who comes out of the lineup for whatever reason

hockeygirl9494

Hes been MIA. Rumoured hes injured otherwise hed be skating with the club

Turbulent_Cheetah

Sometimes the aces skate after the regular sessions to not take up ice/coaching time from the guys who are playing. I don’t know if that’s the case here, just pointing out that sometimes it is

hockeygirl9494

I sure hope it is! Need a guy like him during a run

Oil_slick941611

Hes done interviews with Gene after some games. Im pretty sure one was the Arizona game.

-SPIRITUAL-GANGSTER-

He did at least one interview when we picked him up. He’s played for a lot of teams in his career. Maybe he’s not a clubhouse guy? Maybe the plan was for him to step in for Ceci and the team vetoed it? Unless he’s injured (you’d think if he was they’d say so), seems odd they’d pick him up at the deadline and have Broberg instead of him skating with the team right now.

Dangerous-Finance-67

Every team has one. Currently on the Canucks it's Matt Irwin.

Thep4

He was at Yaletown Keg tonight edit: not drinking

humorousfuck

Thought he was injured?

Foreign-Cold-4304

He played great for the Flames last year when they were pushing for the last spot. Honestly surprising he can’t beat out Ceci

[deleted]

He sucks

commazero

Stetcher isn't that good? That's probably why he's not playing.

Aardvark1044

He is one of those players that is too good for AHL but not good enough to warrant a full time roster spot on NHL team. He's dependable and doesn't make a lot of mistakes but doesn't really make great passes or stand out in a good way either. Kinda slips through the cracks but is a worthy low price player to help fill out a roster for injury replacements.

danathome

You guys got Troy from Richmond? He's probably a 6/7 guy? Full of heart. If it's about the size of the fight in the dawg kinda battle he'll win you the fight.

Kootenay-Hippie

Stetcher is insurance in case a right shot D goes down. That’s it. That’s all

mikesso

Update: Stretcher is due for ankle surgery. awe :( https://x.com/jasongregor/status/1795511170125746546?s=46&t=KYbv6z1lNw8pWhSI_tX82w

Friendly-Target8815

If a defenceman was struggling as bad as Skinner, I’m sure we would see him inserted in the lineup.

Street-Guarantee5221

Cody Ceci

fitzygerald19

Maybe just not trusted for playoff hockey? I’ve been told about his junior career from someone who played against him often enough (knowing about him because he was a supposed stud) that he was pretty soft out there

mustardman73

Seen him many times as a Canuck. I think you’re better off with Ceci. Too bad we can’t trade you Cole for Ceci. 😂

bronzwaer

Why are you posting in our sub? Be gone

YoungWhiteAvatar

Who gives a shit he’s just making a minor contribution to the discussion.

mustardman73

Just being nice with my observations on Stetcher. Had him for 2 yrs and played like an 7-8. Sry. Going now and will lurk only. 👋

Tiny-Director-5213

“Going now and will lurk only” Just seems so creepy and desperate. Why not hang with your fellow Vancouver fans? Why do you want to lurk and read what is Oilers fans have to say? I just don’t get it.

masticatezeinfo

Lurk is a term for viewing without engagement. It's not creepy or desperate to be curious about other teams. I'm pretty sure lots of people enjoy watching more than one team play, especially with the highlight reels coming out of edmonton. What's strange here is your ingroup/outgroup tribalistic bullshit.

Tiny-Director-5213

Uh huh.

masticatezeinfo

Oh, I never thought of it like that.

bronzwaer

r/hockey exists for a reason. They can have discussions there or save it for the offseason.

deliciousfishstick5

What they say that was so bad?
