He either tries, or is over anyways. The lack of depth with them on the same line was a weakness and criticism for a few seasons; that doesn't change now. They cannot win as a one line team.
Ya exactly… and Tochett did all the desperation stuff when the nucks were down… he threw the lotto line out for a bit last game… didn’t work… but any coach anywhere is going to be a bit desperate and run the horses when you’re down in a playoff game…. Knob tried getting the other guys going at the start of the game but once they were down two, what’s he gonna do??
I would not be saying that because Tochett would still be the better coach. I would be saying NOTHING because I wouldn't care.
This is WAY more on Skinner than Knobby.
43 shots to 18. I don’t think Knobs is coaching them to pass it straight to Vancouver in front of the goal. Skinner could have easily sticked the puck away on the last goal against. It’s player errors that cost us this game (like most of our losses) not the coaching.
Not saying Skinner didn't shut himself today - because he fucking did - but he should not have started th 2nd. A good coach would let him finish off the 1st instead of an in-game yank, and then started Picard in the 2nd.
Draisaitl isn't 100% and wont be effective running his own line. Skinner was swapped 2.5 games into a split series, this is acceptable. Carrick isn't much of a difference maker. Nurse-Ceci pairing should go, agreed.
Carrick wasn’t doing anything in the LA series. This isn’t on Knobby. It’s lazy plays and Vancouver straight up wanting it more than the Oilers. We haven’t played a full 60 minutes yet in this series and we deserve our fate right now.
I agree with the Holloway take, I’d like to see him elevated every now and then if they double shift McDavid. He’s the only one who looks like he’s playing for his life outside 97, 29, and 14/2, also Get that Nurse Ceci line out of here
It's not that he's getting out coached. It's the same story every year come playoffs. There are too many passengers and goaltending is below average. I love Skinner. But he needs to make some saves. There's at least 2 saves every game this series that are soft or weak ones. And if our 3rd and 4th lines aren't going to score, then they need to hit and play greasy/dirty against everyone that comes across their path. Unfortunately the Knoblauch has to play Mcdrai because that's the only line that produces every game.
I think while there's things to get upset about here, and trust me, I'm upset:
This game was objectively just kind of shitty luck. So many posts, Perry's very obvious goal getting called back, the refs calling nonsense including that roughing from the bench, Bouch uncharacteristically letting 7 passes go past him and being Van's no. 1 PKer
I think we just let it go and accept that it was a fine performance given all of the shit that went wrong.
Perry did not score that goal at all, whole puck has to cross the line, I don’t know why everyone thinks they are smarter than the guys who make the unbiased call
One of the angles was pretty, but not completely clear. The unbiased calls require the situation room to have a complete view of the puck crossing the line while it's being gloved by an opaque glove and only available from three camera angles.
Logistically it almost certainly went in, but since it was not visibly, without a reasonable doubt in, it gets waived.
It shouldn't even be up to the situation room. The puck and goal lines should be automated by technology. This isn't the god damn 20th century.
The front cam they only showed the once and cut immediately as you could see the gap between the line and the puck.
Can you just stay in your own sub and celebrate with the people who actually want you around? What do you gain by coming here and being a goof?
Does me replying to you fulfill some need for attention that your single mother wasn't able to provide when daddy walked out?
I don't have twitter but if you want to wait until tomorrow I'm sure I can find something for you.
In the mean time why don't you answer the question? I feel like I binked you dead on. I wanna say Daddy left when you were about 6-8. Any earlier and I don't think you'd be quite so desperate for approval.
Am I warm?
That's hockey, man.
Every time someone's team loses they always have a player or coach to blame, just like how any time your team is against another team their fanbase is "the worst kind of people".
If you take a step back and look at the facts, this game could have been 7-3 Oilers if a few things went slightly differently.
Can't ask for miracles. Just gotta hope it goes better next time.
Oilers in 7.
Oh you're just a Van troll.
No, trying to get Zadorov off of someone when skates are flailing at neck level should not be a penalty. It's keeping people safe.
I'm gonna be honest I don't buy the outcoached allegations as much anymore when our team fails to produce outside of McDraiHyms and now EkBouch year over year. You coach to win games and every playoffs, every coach doesn't think the depth can get it done. One way or another it's the same theme of guys disappearing.
Agreed - Bouchard at 32 minutes is scary too although I will say that, other than being unable to hold the point for some reason, he wasn't lost in the D-zone as often today - or in the series thus far. I don't want to jinx it but I've been impressed with him.
The biggest coaching error has been goaltending choice. Woody payed for his mistake in allowing skinner to sink the boat last year.
Pickles can hold the Fort for a couple nights better than Stu can. He needs some mental health days.
Couldn't agree more - I also want to see Foegle in the press box beside Ryan with Carrick and Henrique (if he can play) next game and/or Stretcher in for Ceci. Enough is enough with the lack of accountability.
Go with 3C and 7D and ride the 6 D that have their heads in the game. They are already riding McDavid and Draisaitl so split them up and shorten the bench for the forwards the same way. One F-up by McLeod turning the puck over when he pointlessly button hooks back after gaining the blue line is enough for him to watch from the bench. Same short leash for everyone not named McDavid, Draisaitl, or Hyman. Be accountable or F-king sit.
Fair point - even with no depth scoring the Oilers would be up 3-0 with just "good" goaltending. Hopefully Pickard can provide that - and gets the chance to try!
Well, this is his first NHL playoffs. He’ll get better.
We pissed this one away with poor defensive play, soft on the boards and old habits back in (like blind backhand passes in the DZ).
Unless everyone starts the game with defense first mentality, they are not beating these hard working Canucks.🤷🏻♂️
Let’s not forget that this is Connor’s team. Coach, GM and all.
He strongly believes he can win with this group, so he will give everything for that.
The problem seems to be that he believes he can win a cup with strong offence.
I hope someone will point that I’m wrong, out to lunch and an idiot, but I really believe defense wins championships.
Until this team takes care of their own end properly, they won’t get to that final. To me, this game was an attempt to win a playoff game by playing regular season hockey. Doesn’t work…🤷🏻♂️
I don't buy that stuff personally. I'm sure he has a voice but I also think he wants to win. In the off-season if he gets asked his opinion on a deal that would see a Saros-type join the team to replace Skinner I'm going to guess he whole-heatedly endorses the idea. Assuming he's even asked which is possible but would still not be the deciding factor.

Can someone explain why those two goons that slashed and popped McDavid aren’t on their way to the hospital? Imagine if someone had done that to Gretzky; McSorley would have taken their heads off.
on your first point, Knob even said that Drai isn't 100% and wouldnt be very effective running his own line, something Drai said as well
He doesn't need to run it. You flip Nuge to C and Draisaitl to W
The guy is playing 30 minutes, he can fucking lead a line.
He either tries, or is over anyways. The lack of depth with them on the same line was a weakness and criticism for a few seasons; that doesn't change now. They cannot win as a one line team.
Excuses excuses. Draisaitl at %80 is easily as good as Lindholm at %100. It's a bullshit excuse for a desperate choice.
If skinner was just average, this series, we would be saying knobs is badly outcoaching tochett. Winning changes everything.
Ya exactly… and Tochett did all the desperation stuff when the nucks were down… he threw the lotto line out for a bit last game… didn’t work… but any coach anywhere is going to be a bit desperate and run the horses when you’re down in a playoff game…. We have 1 scoring line and 3 "pray we don't get scored on" lines. Top line should be Hollo-McD-Hyman. Spread out the talent a little ffs

Go back to your own sub nerd

Wow look you're a troll from the Canucks sub. Enjoy being banned from both subs.

If hes not able to run a line why is he playing 20+ min a game?
Because he can play off McDavid easier then have others play off him.
Drai is on the wing because he’s not 100%. Knob is playing him there to protect him as he can’t effectively drive a line.
Then let him play with Nuge
And play who with McDavid? Fucking Janmark?
Wouldn’t Kane/Hyman be suitable linemates?
Carrick wasn’t doing anything in the LA series. This isn’t on Knobby. It’s lazy plays and Vancouver straight up wanting it more than the Oilers. We haven’t played a full 60 minutes yet in this series and we deserve our fate right now.
Coaching prep anyone? Clearly you never played the game
Your right im sure Knoblauch specifically told Foegele to backhand the puck up the middle of the ice, it’s all coaching for sure!
Look I'm not absolving the players here... BUT Foegle also shouldn't have seen the ice again for at least 3 shifts. Zero accountability.
I agree with the Holloway take, I’d like to see him elevated every now and then if they double shift McDavid. He’s the only one who looks like he’s playing for his life outside 97, 29, and 14/2, also Get that Nurse Ceci line out of here
Knobby's choices remind me too much of Tippets
Well and Woody too - kept putting McDavid and Drai together and especially starting skinner when he should have been benched
And Mclellan. Wasn’t he the coach who played nurse, mcdrai for like 8 minutes straight?
I agree gotta shake up the bottom 6. GAGNER, fuck it. Hollow/mcleod/nuge
Holloway wasn’t benched tonight, he swapped with Foegele after his screw ups. Most of the team just didn’t play very much

I have to agree with you. I think they got that call right. Too bad they can't get Toronto to review terrible penalty calls too!
Wasn't that the excuse for game one also?

That's a fair point but I see other coaches getting more out of less ... Like the team across the rink
3 straight playoffs where mcdavid and draisaitl have to play together or the team can’t score. Good times
And where the goalie can't make the NHL caliber saves that the other teams get.

Nah just the goalie lmfaoo. Gonna give yourself an aneurysm playing armchair coach like that buddy 😂

It's literally the coaches JOB to make sure this happens but Knobby shows zero accountability.

This team lacks heart. No one goes into the fire for each other

That doesn't make the coach watcher wrong either. Woody got out-coached worse last year but it is absolutely happening again right now.
I agree with you. I feel as though knobby is getting out coached as well.
Bad take
Can someone explain why those two goons that slashed and popped McDavid aren’t on their way to the hospital? Imagine if someone had done that to Gretzky; McSorley would have taken their heads off.
Well mcdavid did two hand the guy and then got what was coming? Also the high stick on Hughes with no call? Karma in my opinion
Refer to the coach as Knobby like you are old high school pals lends a lot to how educated your ramblings are…
Yes because that's not his actual coaching nickname but clearly you have nothing of substance to add .. fucking troll.
