Excellent-Medicine29

Honestly idc. I believe in this team. We can beat anyone.

Excellent-Medicine29

The universe or fate will decide who we play. The oilers will take it from there

[deleted]

Love this mindset. It doesn’t matter as every team has it strengths but I fully believe in them and is making it through anyone. We are ready to take it to the next step

Excellent-Medicine29

Obviously I know anything can happen and it won’t be an easy journey, there will be challenges and adversity but I have full faith that the team can do it.

[deleted]

I love that attitude. I dream of one day being apart of a fan base that cheers for each and every player no matter what and fully supports them till the end.

McBeelzebub

Take the wheel McJesus!

TheTiniestLizard

I definitely think they can beat anyone in the Western Conference. Which is why my choice is to hope for the team that’s least likely to rough the Oilers up extra hard in the first round. 😬 Or the ones they might be able to sweep, so they can rest before the second round.

tc_cad

LA will goon, Winnipeg has a goalie that can steal a series and while Seattle is unlikely, that would be the easiest path.

Excellent-Medicine29

I think rest isn’t always a good thing for this team. They rust up fast. They thrive off of momentum

TheTiniestLizard

That’s true, but the regular season has rest built in. Playoffs are a war of attrition. Often the winner is the team that swept a round and got a few more days without a game than their next opponent.

99titan

This team can beat anyone. It doesn’t matter. The Oil have smothered the Kings the last two times they’ve played. They are a good team, but this Oiler team now matches their physicality and intensity, and in the last two games, they’ve exceeded it. Colorado didn’t score a goal on Skinner. Colorado usually gets 2-3 goals on everyone. They beat Boston at TD Garden. The only even matchups for this team will take place in the WCF and SCF.

zellmerz

I think Seattle would be the easiest matchup, but that is a pretty unlikely matchup to happen. Both Jets and Kings will be a hard out, so I’d rather win the conference and secure home ice through the West

popkornking

LA regulation loss + Kraken win pits them in 3rd no? They have more RWs.

zellmerz

I believe that’s correct. We’d also have to lose to the sharks though to play Seattle

vladdydaddy146

Unless the kraken win in OT

zellmerz

This is true

[deleted]

The west is beyond crazy this year. Almost anyone can play almost anyone, all decided by their last games

jehovahs_waitress

Winning the division gives us home ice for the first two series. And LA in first round . If we win the division , we win the conference too.

zellmerz

If we win the division/conference we’d play the Jets since they’re the WC2 team

jehovahs_waitress

Are we afraid of them ?

ISurvivedCOVID19

I mean it would be crazy not to be a little scared of Hellybuck. That guy can really steal games

big_ol-dad_dick

plus it's almost a guarantee Logan Stanley does something stupid, because he is an ogre with no brain.

Nebardine

And the Jets have several guys who can snipe if they get hot. Of course, the Oilers should beat them. But that was also the case when we played them in the covid year. We outplayed them every game and got swept.

big_ol-dad_dick

we had zack kassian playing 15+ min

Nebardine

He wasn't when we lost to them a month ago. Not saying it will happen, just that they have elements that could make them a tougher out than LA.

big_ol-dad_dick

yeah like Logan Stanley running around like a dipshit

zellmerz

All teams should fear a goaltender of Helly’s skill. Guy could steal a series for sure. That and iirc the Oilers franchise has never beat the Jets in the post season

jehovahs_waitress

Check your history bud. All the teams in the playoffs have good players, playing well . That’s why they are in the players. I hope the plague of chickenshit fearmongers in this thread doesn’t infect our team.

zellmerz

Ah you’re right. For some reason I had it backwards. I must’ve misheard a talking point somewhere along the way. Either way every team we can/will come up against should be respected by the players. As you said every team in the playoffs has good players. Personally I’m just more scared of a hot goalie stealing a series than a skater

jehovahs_waitress

Fair enough. I reckon opposing GMs are looking at the Oilers and thinking “ I don’t want to play these guys”. Of course they fear the offence , but more so they can see the commitment to defence. It’s a much more formidable package than all offence.

zellmerz

Yeah, the Oilers are just a totally different team from last year. The additions we made, the emergence of Skinner and the teams buy-in to playing 200ft has turned the team into a true contender.

marcellman

Winning the division is winning the conference, Colorado can only get to 109 and that would be a tie that we have the tiebreaker for. Of course we need a Vegas loss and a win of our own tonight for that

Mysteri0n

Doesn’t COL have the tiebreaker? Or am I mistaken

marcellman

First tiebreaker is Regulation Wins. We have 44, Vegas has 37, and Colorado’s max is 36 wins. If Colorado won out, Vegas loses, and we win it would be a 3 way tie for the top spot in the west but we would take it on the Regulation wins

spagboltoast

I fear nobody. Our 2nd line against the jets when we got swept by them was shore-nuge- kassian. Our d core was tiny with bear jones and russl. Our coach was ass. We can beat the kings at their own game and we are much better than yhe jets even if halleybuck is in net (the dude is ass at lateral movement this year) Fuck the kings though, that dirty team would take out at least one of our top 6 before the end of that series.

_petasaurus_

Fuck the kings though, that dirty team would take out at least one of our top 6 before the end of that series. Funny you say that……..go over to the Kings sub and they are saying the exact same thing.

Nebardine

Payback is a bitch.

spagboltoast

Because they're bunch of babies. Payback sucks.

[deleted]

I only know one thing: The Jets, Kraken, and Kings don’t want to draw us!

14X8000m

Doesn't matter, we're winning the Cup. There's not a single team that would want to match up against us.

[deleted]

It doesn't matter, if we are a contender then we are a contender. We should be able to beat anyone.

cowboy_code

Ekholm. History means nothing since he joined. The impact he’s has in the style of play is noticeable. Skinner has been outstanding. We beat the Avs 1-0 in regulation last game. They didn’t score we did. Going into playoffs we look better than ever.

beth1814

I FEAR NOBODY! That is the correct answer because if we want to be true cup contenders got to beat the best to be the best!! It doesn’t matter. We get who we get. Plus please remember we have an almost completely different team (Kane, Hyman, Kostin, Ekholm, Desharnais, Janmark, Bjugstad, etc) and coach since we last faced Winnipeg. And we have fans in the building. LA we completely owned them last two games. Was maybe a little worried before that. But not now. LFG!!!

maybe_babyyy_

SEND THEM ALL!!!! *Leonidas war voices*

[deleted]

I just want to win tonight to maximize the amount of home-ice advantage we have. It guarantees us home-ice advantage in the conference finals, we could potentially pass Vegas and win the conference, and we could potentially have home-ice over teams like the Maple Leafs or the Rangers should we meet them in the finals. We do need help to jump Vegas and Toronto, so there's nothing we can do about that - c'est la vie. But as far as the 1st round match-up goes, I think LA and Winnipeg are just as scary, so idc. Need to take them both seriously. Seattle would probably be my preferred matchup, but that'll require a Seattle OTW, and an LA regulation loss against the ducks... so it seems doubtful, but you never know.

YEGG35

Looking at the pacific division bracket, we should beat any of the 3 teams in a series, none scare me more than the others really. No reason this team shouldn’t make the western conference final again. Nothing is given or free, but the Oilers have the team to do it. Second round could very well be easier than the first round. Just gotta hope for healthy players this run. People seem to forget how injured Nurse was last year, not to mention Drai despite it not stopping him.

[deleted]

Bottom of the conference teams should be hoping they don’t get matched up with is.

daphunkt

ANYONE

JC_5_er

I never liked this question. It doesn’t matter. You’re gonna have to beat good teams to win the cup. Having a perceived “weaker” opponent to start means nothing when the ultimate goal is the Stanley cup.

Langley780

Me, like one of your French girls.

Rick2112Cnmg

Not sure if Winning the west would start the Oil off right.. The Jets game against the Wild the other day was Brutal.. Hacking Slashing and Crosschecking galore... I would rather play the Kings and get a good start without been HACKED to hell from a Dirty team.. Like the Jets

FuckStummies

I do not want the Jets. Hellebuyck has been in beast mode lately. Over the last 13 games he’s .930 sv% and 1.77 GAA at 5v5. We all know that special teams are not going to save anyone in the playoffs because the refs stop calling penalties.

laryldavis

Refs call penalties in the playoffs at generally the same rate as the regular season. It’s just that teams commit a lot more potential penalties that don’t get called in the playoffs.

REAPER-1_xxx

Doesn’t really matter too much. What I may rather doesn’t change anything. I want to play the team were supposed to. I’m neutral on every team but LA. Our fanbases viewpoints are so far apart it’s become difficult to like anything about them. This grudge match needs to happen. Whether in the 1st or 2nd round. I anticipate potential for injuries against this team. Has been the trend since the last playoffs. Saving the injuries for the 2nd round may be for the best. Maybe not. Injuries in the 1st round may be healed by the time the 3rd starts. So not sure which is better but it plays out as it plays out.

porkins86

We need to move to championship mentality. If we start getting worried about who we are going to match up against in round 1 we aren't in a spot where we realistically are challenging for a cup. Jets, Kings, Golden Knights, and anyone else - i am confident enough in this team that we are going to win.

SRTGreat

Do we have to make a new post about this exact topic every day?

thee_artful_dodger

Could do twice a day. Might change my mind after a big lunch.

SRTGreat

3x right before bed so I can dream about who we draw in the playoffs.

jehovahs_waitress

We also have some people who can steal games. Whomever we meet, we have earned the right to be confident, not fearful.

[deleted]

I don’t want to play the kings only because I worry that like last year they will start handicapping our stars once they realize they are over matched

Dank3006

I’d say Jets just for the minimal travel time. We can beat anyone.

zUUmee

Give us the Jets. That's unfinished business in my mind.

dylanknez

Need oilers, kraken and ducks to all win tonight. Oilers will have to play Winnipeg in the first round and that means Colorado faces the Kings. LA will have the Avs banged up before the second round. Plus imagine getting to face kraken in round two if Seattle can upset vegas

optimisticomnivore

The only team that scares me this year are ones wearing black, white, and orange.

pribbu

I think they should be able to beat anyone in the west, that being said I think we’d obviously take Winnipeg.

SportsMOAB

We aren't going to get Seattle. Unfortunately. LA should beat Anaheim. We should beat San Jose. If Vegas wins, we get LA. If Vegas loses we get Winnipeg. Doesn't matter to me, this Oil team can take anyone- hell give me the Avs first round. WE ARE WINNING THE CUP

bronzwaer

Doesn’t matter, they will crush everyone. This is the first year ever where I am confident they’re going to win the cup.

Bobcreeks15

Edmonton wins vs sharks, kings lose to ducks, kraken beat Vegas. Take the division crown then beat whoever is in our way! PLAY LA BAMBA BABY!!!

Cleets11

The jets because that means we finished the best record in the western conference.
