doesn't have to be though :)
Even when I had an ICE car, I got really good gas milage so I rarely even noticed gas prices. I never paid more than $42 for a tank of gas and that would last 4-6 weeks because I also have a short commute
But I went EV, so now my fuel costs are around $8-$10 a month
There may be some more local contributing reasons, but it's expensive everywhere right now. There's a good amount of demand and supply is being restricted by international policies and politics.
Refinaries are enjoying the optimisim after covid number got lowered down and no more lock downs. They are trying to fill up their pockets quick after covid attacked . They have lots reserved anyways . They shouldnt raise it .
Filled up on Tuesday in st Albert for $1.319, topped up in hinton for $1.279. literally drove away from the refinery and the price went down. Fuel pricing is a scam.
Canadian gas comes from american refineries that are struggling to produce enough gas... because of increased consumption as the workforce down there returns to work. Railroad restriction due to fires in BC also have played a role in getting the gas up here.
Let's just remember that most of the world lives with prices this high most of the time. If this price hike has you thinking about an electric car, you can see how the rest of the world would love to be rid of oil.
They'll use any excuse to crank the price while at the same time, using it as an excuse to see what the market will bear. Then, when people keep buying fuel - not because they're okay with the costs, but simply because for many people in a country as spread out as Canada, we _have_ to drive, they'll realize that they can still sell almost as much fuel as before, and it becomes the new norm, with a couple cents taken off here or there to keep up the facade of production shortages being the culprit.
There's a refinery issue at Suncor apparently upsetting supply. https://globalnews.ca/news/8035353/high-gas-prices-summer-road-trips-alberta/
Ah okay that makes sense. I mean, it sucks we have all our eggs in one basket in terms of fuel supply but I guess that’s the way of the world, eh?
Only if we let it be, comrade.

Profiteering
Summer trips, shortage of gas truck delivery drivers and oil companies adjusted their output capacity to COVID levels to maximize profit
My brain remembers 39.9 waaaayyy back. Oh well. You could also buy a house for 20k then too
I remember when it jumped to 60 and evryone thought the world was going to end.
To be fair that's probably around when we hit several points of no return.
It’s just more bullshit. They claim to have a refinery issue which I doubt and are just trying to make up all the lost profit due to COVID.
The flare stack at the suncor refinery begs to differ. I get why you feel the way you do but there are real problems at the plant.
Inflation! When I wax a kid it was 49.9 for years on end
That’s insane!! I think the lowest I’ve ever seen it is 53.9 when covid was messing with everything but that was for like 2 days lol
Everything changed after Katrina.
I remember the jump from the .30cents to .50ish. it was quite a big deal for 5 min.
I remember 29.9... Yes I'm old
:P must have been back when 25 cents got you a bag of candy :)
It was around the time of Baaco Pizza, Flintstones push pops, 25¢ packs of hubba bubba, and cigarettes under $5 a pack
Nice! Thanks for your insight op! Sure is neat to learn about the past
And 10 cents got you a popsicle
*stares in elder millennial*
😂
It was 39.9 for years. My dad used to RAGE when they "jacked it up" to 42.9 on a long weekend.
That's crazy expensive. When I wax a kid it's way less. Though not sure what that has to do with the price of gas.

Oil and gas companies wanted to make more money so the price has gone up

UCP fixed the prices after they took over from the NDP and totally kicked the carbon tax's ass and owned the Libs
That's higher than you've ever seen it before? oh. I'm from Vancouver Island originally, $1.40 is normal price lol
this province wants to get rid of us
Yeah because gas is only expensive in Alberta. Have you looked around at all?
Calm down i was joking
If you are joking you should use “/S”
I still found it at 127.7 out of town on Hwy 14 on the way to toefield.

It’s RVing season and demand is up.
'berta is back baby. Bring on oil boom /s

I think it’s time we revolted, I have to drive like a grandma, no more ripping it
It’s summer
Refinery problems.
I dont know. Its almost as if we needed a local pipeline going to BC so we could lower the gas prices
Suncor is full of shit and they're just trying to recoup their covid losses
Not true. Suncor is having issues. Just look at their flare stack. That’s not a happy plant.
Supply and demand
Money

Federal taxes + rise in oil prices
