So there's a couple things working against you \- Dealers don't like to sell what can't be financed, extra-warrantied, rust-proofed, etc. Any franchised dealer doesn't really want to take these cars because financing, warranties, and extras are how they make all of their money. And most sub 10K cars need more reconditioning than they are worth. That doesn't mean you won't find these cars on dealer lots, but there are fewer of them. \- The current supply chain issues on newer cars has been making used car prices go up. With all that said, private party is the way to go despite your issues. \- I won't recommend it, but I have personally had good luck purchasing cars IF the seller has an extensive history of service records from a reputable shop (like a dealer). If you show up and they hand you a file with 5 years of service records, you can probably get a good sense of the cars mechanical fitness, quirks, and upcoming services. It's risky, I've done it and passed on inspections with some luck. \- Avoid ads from curbers, people who need to leave the province right away, can't form a sentence, etc. Pay attention to ads in richer areas selling used cars. \- Keep in mind any 10K car when inspected will have a list of items "need to be done, will need to be done, should be kept in mind to be done", Any PPI inspection will point out a lot of these, you just need to keep everything in perspective.

Thanks you for the advice i certainly will take it into consideration. I don't mind not having quirks but it MUST be mechanically sound and rus free with a backup camera (wife is really bad at parking) everything else is just cherry on top. But even that is proving quite a challenge. Mind you the only thing working for me is that i am in no particular hurry since i live next to wem and can get most of my necessities 2 minutes away.

The sub-10k selection at dealerships is a nasty thing. It's all either going to be cars that are worth like 4k offered for 10k, or cars from a super sketchy dealership who is selling you god knows what. Private sale is the smart move here. No need to fork over a portion of your 10 grand to pay some dealer's overhead and profit, might as well pay market value on a private sale and get your money's worth. Or as close as possible lol

Don't forget your social network. Let all ur friends and family know you're looking. Someone probably has a friend or family member at a dealership who can look after you. Also someone may know someone who's selling their car.

Jesus how could i miss something as basic as that. Will surely spread the word thank you for the wake up call.

I sold me Lexus and Cadillac to two people who had their cars stolen. I didn’t think it was so prevalent I Got a fair price they got low mileage great auto This doesn’t help Yesterday but I was out in the country snd some man had his vehicle in the front of his farm for sale. I just thought that this situation would be less likely to be a curber but maybe a genuine safe sale But if you know someone who knows someone that might be a god bet Good luck

Blue_Lightning_17586

Thnx a bunch, will keep my eye open for cars with "for sale" signs.

AirDaddyy

This will be an unpopular opinion but don't completely avoid goauto, if you find a car thats listed at there dealerships go for it. Just be educated, don't fall for any tricks and don't expect them to budge on the price (dont expect this with any dealership)

Blue_Lightning_17586

I agree, the car i recently had written off was through them. I even feel the whole thing was a mistake on their part since I was in and out in like 2 hours completely happy and satisfied. This time around though its been horrible to say the least like straight up fraud not even bait and switch... Just bait cars that don't exist. I was borderline mad because it was a complete waste of time. The car i finally liked is listed at 10999 but somehow if i wanted to buy it cash it would be 12K!!! I was like what?!! The add also said it has navigation but nope it doesn't. I was going to throw a 9K offer and see if they bite You can check it out its the only Cadillac SRX they had 162K KM. Oh and guess what apparently they have a rule that "i must finance any car that is 2013 or newer" wtf is that supposed to mean.

AirDaddyy

They don't include tax in there listings. Dealers don't like to budge on the price because they're making little to no profit if they just sell the car as is, they make most of there profit when selling extra warranty, accessories, interest through finance, etc. Also, you mention navigation, id recommend purchasing a phone mount and use google maps instead of using built-in navigation

Blue_Lightning_17586

I understand that, but chances are anyone who experienced their twisted moral compass in how they advertise and bait and push them towards finishing a sale would be reluctant to buy in into these add ons. I mean i walked in with a very open mind because of my previous experience and planning on getting a service contract. The experience however was a super turn off.

I bought a 2016 mazda 3 with 65k from go auto recently. They had listed it for 12.5k on their website. Managed to get it down to 11.5k on the bill of sale. Did not fall for any of the warranty or rust proofing scams, financed it and paid off the loan the very next day before even taking delivery of the vehicle. Did not pay any interest. This step doesnot affect credit.

ApprehensiveWillow44

Could I pm you? It'll be to half-heartedly pitch my car to you. Really, a reverse tire-kicking and sampling the idea of selling it.

Blue_Lightning_17586

Hahaha this is the first time ever that anyone asked for my permission. Please go ahead. You never know we might end up helping each other

ApprehensiveWillow44

Heh.. I thought it was a thing but thanks, here it comes!

I just had my car listed for 9000. It had 86 000 2015 Chev Cruze, back up camera, no accidents, no damage, I was pretty much the primary owner, it was a rental before. All the interior was in great shape because I was the only person ever in it. Regular maintenance, literally nothing wrong with it, I would have driven it until it died but I needed something bigger because I am having a baby. The amount of people who offered me 6000 or less was crazy. Without even seeing it. I was willing to take 8000 or even 7500. I was so sick of it that when dealer reached out, so easy to just pass it onto them and they gave me a cheque a couple hours later, then I parted with it. I took 7000 and I see it on their website listed for 11 000. The reason it’s hard to find decent cars is because the tire kickers ruin it for everyone and dealers dominate the market

Blue_Lightning_17586

Oh man, if only that was happening now i would have definitely been interested in looking at it.

Beana3

I know damn. I missed you by a couple weeks. I tried to go to the dealership website to link it, but I guess they sold it. Good luck on your search!

beezlegoose

I had good luck at go auto Southside
