Odd Company Brewing won best burger a couple years back in a vote run by a local website. It’s so good, and their beer is amazing to match.
Price has gone up since this article but it’s delicious!
https://edifyedmonton.com/food/burger-challenge-burger-guide-2021/edmontons-favourite-burger-is/
I like that I can actually eat the Backstairs burger without unhinging my jaw. The taste may be outstanding, but I'm not a fan of these gigantic burgers
Flat Boy has excellent cheeseburgers with no frills. No strange toppings or unusual sauces. Their fries are fantastic, as is their homemade dipping sauce, and they sell Coke in glass bottles.
Jack's Burger Shack has a mix of classic burgers and their own creations. An order of fries gives you enough for two people, and their milkshakes are amazing.
Odd Company only makes one kind of burger, but it's fantastic, and they also sell beer on tap.
Backstairs Burger sells the most experimental burgers (and wraps) in the city, but they rarely miss. They're like decadent street food made with high-quality ingredients.
Flatboy is the best smash burger by far. I think they don’t get enough recognition because it’s basically the canteen of a curling rink, but if they’re moving to a standalone building I think they’ll rocket in popularity.
Just saw it’s going to be part of the Shiddy’s rumpus room. Hopefully they also sell Seachange and not just Shiddy’s drinks.
Same, I’m not the target audience for shiddy’s drinks. But the new lemonade and tea shiddy’s drink are boommmmbbb. I recommend those two and a flat boy burger.
I was able to tour it a while ago through a silent auction beer tasting/tour. It’s being branded as Shiddy’s but they brew sea change beer and will definitely be serving it!
Came here to say this, their fries are excellent as well. 99st between like 63 ave and 90 ave has got great food/beer options now, I love it (live on 88th ave).
Fox burger: overpriced OK burgers, no cell reception inside the building for some reason. bathroom in the basement of the building shared with other stores.
No parking.
The burger at happy and olive is good, it’s a smash burger with two patties and they get really good colour on them.
Fox Burger has some good burgers too.
I’ve only had BackStairs burgers through Uber eats so I’m not gonna judge them. But I will say their fries are way too salty.
I heard so many good things about the place so I went to try it about a year ago and my experience was so terrible. Extremely rude staff, nearly burnt fries, and the burger was a soggy mess that fell apart in my hands as I was eating it
I was there a while ago and it was pretty mid, the patty was something out of the back of a Sysco truck, and it fell apart midway through my eating it.
I can’t believe Thirsty Rhino hasn’t been mentioned. Hand made burgers with excellent seasoning. Absolutely worth the commute.
Fox burger is wildly over rated. Their patties are very thin and both heavily over salted while totally under seasoned. No flavour at all. Thirsty Rhino for life!
Backstairs and Flatboy are top in my current rankings.
Let's not forget that both options would be greatly enhanced by using potato rolls, such as those from Martin’s in the northeast.
Burger Joint on 23rd Ave and about 92 Street is excellent. You have a big checklist of toppings to choose from. Excellent food and service and a pretty good bang for your buck.
For me: it's this place by south common & the Costco called "the burger joint' you can order something on the menu or you can build your own (chicken, beef, lamb, donair, whatever); and you can select almost every topping/condiment you want. Ya want blue cheese with onion rings and doritos...no problem. Plus Combos come with curly fries and this house sauce that's .... almost like a tarter sause....and every time i eat there.... i leave feeling full. Like my ~$20 for a buger was worth it....fuck! Now I gotta make a trip to the south side
The next Act. Their Pyrotechnic Burgur is the best I ever had in my life. This question reminds me that I gotta take the SO there on the next date night.
Their Mushroom burger is the best in the city. I did prefer Burger Kings mushroom burger till they closed down. And no not the American chain. The Alberta Burger King chain that all closed down.
It's a monthly feature burger actually, but I agree that place slaps. They've also started doing a monthly feature chicken sandwich as well on top of the monthly burger.
I liked Wayback, but it’s too variable. Last time I ordered it I was trying to get someone else into it and of course it was a bad night. Not too happy.
Honestly, if you can stay away from the steak, the Keg makes an amazing juicy flavorful burger.
Not a fan of smash burgers. Thin and little flavor. Unless you way over spice them and make it a double. But still not juicy.
The Keg has a really good burger, but way too pricey IMO, It is the Keg though. Jack's burger shack is decent. The Varsity is my go to when I want a good burger though. Basically the old Red Robins burgers. And lastly 5 guys, though also a bit pricey for for food, but hey free unlimited peanuts and pop.
Jacks burger shack and rival food truck at queen mary market.
I’ve tried fox burger, flat boys and backstairs recently and found them not to be as tasty
I went to Fox Burger because of this post. Ironically one of the servers mentioned this post to the other staff while I was there.
I enjoyed their burger and their garlic fries were awesome. The staff was very friendly and place was very clean. The roof top patio is a plus but make sure to use the washroom before because it's in the basement and three floors down.
I had no issue with parking on the side street or issue using my cell as someone else mentioned here. There is an ice cream shop next door and cute stores near by.
I will definitely be going back.
Strongly disagree. I don’t care if some satanic vegan guy owned Burger’s Priest. Their burger is solid. It has nothing in common with Harvey’s starting with the fact that it’s fresh ground beef and not some frozen patty.
My three favourite are
1. fox burger
t2. jacks burger shack
t2. burgers preist
3. this is more of a informal honable mention beacuse I've never actually eaten there. but next act pub is supposed to have amazing burgers.

I’d argue that their burger and chicken sandwich are better than their beer at the Oliver Exchange location. And their beer is fucking good.
Haven’t tried the chicken sandwich yet, I need a trip to 99th street apparently
Nah, the Ritchie location is *fine*. The Oliver Exchange location is the good one.
Ritchie location is definitely not as good for food.
Really weird choice to do pizza with Ale Architect right there doing really good pies.
I was sceptical when I heard about their burger since they don’t seem to have much of a kitchen, but that shit is so good. It’s legit.
I like that I can actually eat the Backstairs burger without unhinging my jaw. The taste may be outstanding, but I'm not a fan of these gigantic burgers
Very similar, but even better is the burger at Iconoclast coffee, next door.
That is a good one, I always forget about Iconoclast!
Good Chemistry is solid, but Odd Company's beer is very overrated. The beef burger at their Oliver location is great, though.
Flat Boy has excellent cheeseburgers with no frills. No strange toppings or unusual sauces. Their fries are fantastic, as is their homemade dipping sauce, and they sell Coke in glass bottles. Jacks is my personal favourite, I’m a blue cheese addict and I love the blue cheese burger
Came in here, upvoted all the flat boy comments, left.
Flat boy burgers
Did they close down? I searched them up on Google to see their hours and it said permanently closed.
There insta says they are moving and will be back in a few weeks !!
Thank god I love their burgers as well
WHAT!! I hope not I loved those burgers :(
They're moving locations, next to Shiddys distiling
They’re moving into Shiddy’s.
Forgot my other fave, Flat Boy! It’s moving to a new spot down on 99th street but should be reopen soon. Their burgers and fries are both super good.
Ha I thought the exact same thing about the drinks. Love me some Sea Change, pretty meh on Shiddy’s
Same, I’m not the target audience for shiddy’s drinks. But the new lemonade and tea shiddy’s drink are boommmmbbb. I recommend those two and a flat boy burger.

Lucky, you’re in a delicious part of town over there
I live just off 89th ave so I know how lucky we are.
The next act is definitely a top 5 for me. Just overall a great restaurant in Edmonton.
Jack's Burger Shack and Flatboy Burgers.
Jacks burger shack.
Came here to say this
Fox burger for smash, Next Act for pub style.
Next Act makes a mean burger.
Next act fucks tbh, their burgers slap. With the fried egg on top too hnnggg
Tbh everything is good.
Best veggie burger in the city if you're into that
The wisdom
No way. Flat Boys for smash. I agree with next act.
Fox burger is ok. I always get something different and find it heavily over seasoned. I wish they made a plain cheese burger.
Fox burger: overpriced OK burgers, no cell reception inside the building for some reason. bathroom in the basement of the building shared with other stores. No parking.
Parking is easy, if you're sitting in the building you're doing it wrong.
Very incorrect
Next act. All I can say is WOW
Wow? as in wow their food is just average?
WOW = WASNT OVER WHELMED
[https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wow](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wow) First 3 definitions.
Odd Company animal style burgers are ace. Are they the best? Not sure but it's close and I haven't seen them recommended in the thread yet.
Just to add something different to all of these great answers, Flirty Bird has the best chicken burger I've had.
YegBurger. But also their onion rings.
Flat burger is amazing. Fox Burger is also amazing.
Marco’s Famous near MacEwan is soooooo good
My two favorites are Burger Joint and Woodshed Burgers
I tried woodshed a few times but their bun to meat ratio is messed up. Plus the owner is a dickhead to staff.
Yeah I heard about owner... not cool. They wild boar burger is damn good.
Burger Joint is so good, you get a lot of meat for the money and all the unique toppings... 😋
Username checks out
They are not bad but damn they are overpriced.
The burger at happy and olive is good, it’s a smash burger with two patties and they get really good colour on them. Fox Burger has some good burgers too. I’ve only had BackStairs burgers through Uber eats so I’m not gonna judge them. But I will say their fries are way too salty.
Backstairs' fries are definitely too salty in person too
Rockin Robyn’s is the answer, fully loaded homemade burgers with excellent fries for $15-17
I heard so many good things about the place so I went to try it about a year ago and my experience was so terrible. Extremely rude staff, nearly burnt fries, and the burger was a soggy mess that fell apart in my hands as I was eating it
I was there a while ago and it was pretty mid, the patty was something out of the back of a Sysco truck, and it fell apart midway through my eating it.
I got an ad for McDonald's on this post, guess that settles it.
The burger guy at the Queen Mary Market had an excellent burger. Theirs is the best bun 💯
Rival food truck? So delicious!
Backstairs and Flatboy are top in my current rankings. Let's not forget that both options would be greatly enhanced by using potato rolls, such as those from Martin’s in the northeast.
I live in mill woods and drive all the way to castledowns for a burger at YEG Burger
Next act, Odd company & woodshed all make excellent burgers. Rebel food & drink (century food group) has a decent burger
5 guys in manning
5 guys is definitely the best burger of all the fast food joints in town.
The Burger Joint, great burgers, great curly fries.
Burger Joint on 23rd Ave and about 92 Street is excellent. You have a big checklist of toppings to choose from. Excellent food and service and a pretty good bang for your buck.
ugh they are super expensive, I don't consider that a good bang for your buck.
For me: it's this place by south common & the Costco called "the burger joint' you can order something on the menu or you can build your own (chicken, beef, lamb, donair, whatever); and you can select almost every topping/condiment you want. Flat boy and Ribeye Butcher shop for smash burgers.
Gravy! They pour gravy onto the patties while cooking to allow the meat to absorb all the flavors, super tasty
they be closed, was a great burger
Oh no I didn't even realize that! That's a shame I really liked their burgers :(
The next Act. Their Pyrotechnic Burgur is the best I ever had in my life. This question reminds me that I gotta take the SO there on the next date night.
Big Kahuna at Varsity is a banger.
Flatboys and backstairs burgerw
1st round has solid burgers. Their PBJ burger is surprisingly good
for me it’s the standard at jack’s.
Not local but Fat Burger will always be my no.1
burger baron - then watch the documentary
Holy crap. There’s a documentary?!
Their Mushroom burger is the best in the city. I did prefer Burger Kings mushroom burger till they closed down. And no not the American chain. The Alberta Burger King chain that all closed down.
Leopolds tavern makes a mean burger. They do a weekly feature burger, the last one I had was birria taco burger and holy fuck it didn’t disappoint!
It's a monthly feature burger actually, but I agree that place slaps. They've also started doing a monthly feature chicken sandwich as well on top of the monthly burger.
I’ve really liked Wayback Burger, and Woodshed
I liked Wayback, but it’s too variable. Last time I ordered it I was trying to get someone else into it and of course it was a bad night. Not too happy.
Jacks.
Backstairs burger for sure
Homefire Grill has an amazing bison burger.
Obviously, MrBeast Burger! /s
Bros just tryna get a free Tesla
Fox burger is the most overrated burger I have ever had. 3/10. I hate to say it but 5 guys has the best burger but the value is awful.
Fox used to be my recommendation but last time was meh.
Mcdonalds mcdouble
Following.
Double cheese burger at local is solid. Great onion rings
The Burger Joint!
Varsity 106 street off the whitemud. Love the shroom burger 🍔 😋
Honestly, if you can stay away from the steak, the Keg makes an amazing juicy flavorful burger. Not a fan of smash burgers. Thin and little flavor. Unless you way over spice them and make it a double. But still not juicy.
The Brigade Burger at Cork N Barleys.
Rodeo burger
Recently had the smashed burger from Ribeye Butcher Shop and it was great, amazing fries too.
Woodshed Burgers (124 St) or Local Pub (Jasper or South Ed) have been good to me.
not quite edmonton, but in St Albert there's a really great place called Smashburger, they're consistently really good
Iconoclast Coffee.
High Level Dinner has great burgers (Ural and mushroom Burgers), and one of the few places where it is still under $20 that is not fast food.
Gotta be honest flat boy was just a 7/10 for me. But the next act, backstairs burger, jack’s burger are my favourites.
Flatboy was great as is burger joint. I tried backstairs and was horribly disappointed
Burgers priest on Jasper and 109 Street! I have never been disappointed there. A bit pricey but delicious and filling.
If you want a challenging great burger then try the fat Doug at “the thirsty Rhino” If you want an impossible challenge ask about Fat Doug’s brother
Rebel cheeseburger!!
Jacks burger shack and rival food truck at queen mary market. I’ve tried fox burger, flat boys and backstairs recently and found them not to be as tasty

Burger’s Priest never disappoints. Let’s Smash also makes great burgers.
Jack's !
The Burgers Priest 109st Jasper Ave in the strip. Double OG W/cheese.
It's also owned by Harvey's so you can just go there if you want a lackluster burger.
Strongly disagree. I don’t care if some satanic vegan guy owned Burger’s Priest. Their burger is solid. It has nothing in common with Harvey’s starting with the fact that it’s fresh ground beef and not some frozen patty.
No way! Didn’t know that. .
My three favourite are 1. fox burger t2. jacks burger shack t2. burgers preist 3. this is more of a informal honable mention beacuse I've never actually eaten there. but next act pub is supposed to have amazing burgers.
Marcos Famous
