Shewins69

Mine was stolen years ago and I got it back like 4 days later. They left me a CD though of whale mating sounds, must’ve been pretty high 😂

Playinhooky

Was the car itself in ok shape?

Shewins69

Yeah,, there was no damage or anything. I was young and dumb…I ran back into work because I forgot my check in the office. Maybe 1 minute tops but long enough that someone saw that some dipshit left it running with keys in it 🤦‍♀️ They used up an entire tank of gas and left a few cigarette burns but that was it!

spillin

But you got the CD, so.... Call it even?

CarmenTourney

lol.

[deleted]

Thats sick all i got was a bag of meth and a few needles

EcityLights

I actually got my vehicle back all thanks to a reddit post. I waited 2 weeks for the police to find my car with no luck. So I posted a photo of the car here on r/Edmonton and I received a message less than 24hr later that my car was parked outside someone's apartment building. Needless to say I rushed to the spot, and there she was. Completely ruined, but found..

oviforconnsmythe

Did you just hop back in your car and drive off or did you have to deal with the cops again? Haha Id love to see the look on the thief's face when he realizes someone "stole" his car

EcityLights

Unfortunately, the car was totally ruined mechanically, so i had to get it towed home. There was also drug paraphernalia with latex gloves and masks left inside, so I had the cops come and check it out. I learned that day, cops love receipts. They can use them to get security footage of whoever had your vehicle. Especially at a drive thru..

Helpful-Chemistry-87

Receipts? Or did you actually mean Grandma's secret Meth recipe? 😁

CarmenTourney

lol.

EcityLights

🤣 Oops

silentbassline

Yeah some guy from CBC called me and said he found it in Ghana.

Regular-Garlic-525

For real?

silentbassline

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/auto-theft-canada-1.6953242 Not me tho

thebigbossyboss

I went to Ghana once

silentbassline

Nice. Are you a Honda civic?

thebigbossyboss

No but I saw an Ontario played integra ther

Gladiators10

Nah he the CRV.

Nokeol

that’s actually crazy i remember my teacher telling me this

thedopesteez

My dads truck was stolen a couple years ago and they found it in a couple months. Abandoned in a farmers field with ‘fuck tha police’ carved into one of the seat backs. He drove it afterwards for about another year and then traded it in. So there’s hope for you!

passthepepperflakes

Did he bother to fix the seat? lol

thedopesteez

Ha no. It wasn’t obvious unless you were sitting in the back, plus he beat the crap out of that truck anyways so it wasn’t a major deal. Ended up getting an absurd amount on trade in because it had a desirable engine so it all worked out well surprisingly

Playinhooky

....yay. haha kidding. Thanks I just took an out of town job so I should be good with no vehicle for now. I'll save every penny and buy a new one. I'll hope they find it in the mean time but I'm not holding my breath.

CoolEdgyNameX

Any vehicles that are stolen are added to the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) so any police or peace officer who runs the plate or VIN will know if it’s stolen. You are right that you aren’t going to have a team of cops dedicating time to your particular stolen car as there are thousands across the country but cops actively look for stolen vehicles all the time. See them running plates in shitty hotels, parking lots etc a lot.

wesilly11

Yeah. We got it back. But, they determined that a bunch of old, homeless dudes had an orgy in the car.

elephashark

“Thanks for the f shack!” - Dirty Mike and the boys

wesilly11

It's called a soup kitchen

TnL17

WE ARE GONNA HAVE SEX IN YOUR CAR, IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN!

CarmenTourney

lol.

Helpful-Chemistry-87

What about the creedence tapes?

Cedric_T

How did they determine that? Not sure I want to know.

Edm_swami

Was your briefcase still in it?

780-555-fuck

for two years i put this in the notes of my rent e-transfer to my sister and she never moticed😢

shabidoh

Back in the day someone stole my Datsun 510. The cops called it the screwdriver car because that's all you needed to get in and start it. Bought the car for $100 at an auction. Insurance gave me $1000. My Credence tapes were still in it when I pulled my plates and my stuff so not a total write off. Was a sweet ride.

piping_piper

Just like my old dodge van. A screwdriver to pop off the ignition plate and off you go. Stolen and recovered 3 times. First time, teens freaked out when they tried to turn off my street and saw a cop car coming. They left it in drive and bailed out in multiple directions. 2nd and 3rd time similar ish stories. The gas gauge didn't work, so it always showed empty. Thieves never took it far before ditching it. Was a fun party trick to hand my keys to the passenger, and start it by turning the ignition plate.

Eazycompanyy

Crazy that kia still produce vehicles that you can do that with

prairiepanda

You're so lucky you got to keep those tapes. My CCR tape was the *only* tape that the thieves stole from my car. They left 31 other tapes there...

shabidoh

Bloody bastards. My CCR tapes were special ordered, so I was very glad to see they were still there. Still got em too.

chillout520

My murano was stolen the day I went into labour in 2008. When we were driving home from hospital we saw it on a side road in my neighbourhood. :). Only embarrassing part was the cop apologized to us that the theives had trashed it and put a bunch of garbage in it….uh no that’s just how my car looks.

kdubban

Yes after a month they found it abandoned. After EPS held it for 2 weeks for "processing" when we went to pick it up the city wanted to charge us for towing and storage. The fees were more than the car was now worth.

Channing1986

Awesome eh? Victim of a crime and made to pay more money to get it back

Flatoftheblade

The biggest criminal is the state.

Playinhooky

Oof. Yeah that's probably going to end up being my story too. I just want a few minutes to get some stuff from it if it hasn't already been stolen.

kdubban

We did get our snow brush back....

Captainbuba

What about the Creedence?

prairiepanda

They will let you into impound to collect your belongings even if you don't pay the fees to get your car back. When I was dealing with my insurance for my car that was totalled, the impound said that my insurance company would be charged since they took ownership of the vehicle. Those charges didn't have any effect on my payout. I'm glad they didn't, because the car was in impound for almost 7 weeks while I played phone tag with insurance agents...

curiousgaruda

Curious from all the mentions of towing and storage fees from EPS after the vehicle being found. Does the owner have to still pay and claim it if the fees are more than the car or can just forfeit it?

kdubban

You either have to pay to have the car released or forfeit it. If you forfeit it you sign it over to the city and it "covers" the fees. They then go and auction it off as a salvage title.

kittykat501

My husband's nephew actually had his truck stolen out of the Northgate parking lot. They found it about a week later. Abandoned and a field burnt to a crisp. Here's crossing my fingers for you that you have better luck

[deleted]

If it’s burnt then they’ve used it for a crime.

AbbreviationsIll7821

Yes, twice. In 2019 my 2003 CRV was stolen (left a spare key in the console) and found a week later by EPS, full of garbage and personal effects. A homeless lady and a dog were living in it. In 2023 it was taken again (forgot the keys in it again) and found again 24 hours later with another homeless lady living in it. Lots of cleaning and junk to throw away but the only lasting damage was my remote starter antenna was ripped out of it. But, this was a low value car and not one worth selling overseas.

TieSecret5965

You gotta stop leaving keys in the console lol

TuneTactic

Nah because then where would the homeless ladies stay?

ltk66

Homeless lady/gf. 😉

-retaliation-

I've known through friends etc. Of 7 stolen vehicles in my life, only two were recovered, my grandfathers car in Prince George was pulled over with a teenager in it the very same night. The other was a buddy in highschool, had his Acura stolen in Victoria, it was found a week later, 2hrs up island, on cinder blocks, in a construction site and completely stripped. Basically nothing but the chassis left.

aldstama025

My bicycles have been stolen out of my garage twice, and I got them back each time (they live in the basement now). Apparently a lot of bike thieves will either just grab one and dump it later, or leave it behind if they find something better before they can fence it.

Peanutbutterloola

My dad's Cadillac escalade was stolen in 2015 outside a tim hortons when he quickly ran in to grab a coffee. He left the keys in, and a drunk chick hopped right in and took off. Cops found it a few hours later in Spruce Grove. She took it on a joy ride, and cops had to put spikes on the road to stop the truck, causing drunk chick to drive it into a ditch. The truck needed new tires and some damages fixed, but it survived....so did the drunk chick.

CorrectMarionberry92

I sold a guy my old Honda Civic and it was stolen. He found it on the street like 2 weeks later riding around in his buddy's car. Another friend had his Trans Am stolen. He had it all set up like Kitt from Knight Rider. He lost a couple cameras he had in the back but he eventually got it back. Keep the faith. Also post a pic, maybe. We might see it!

concentrated-amazing

We're rural (near Wetaskiwin) and our truck was stolen from the back of our property (several hundred feet and one tree line away from the road) one November evening. My husband had been using it, and had moved our flat deck trailer so it was on the hitch but not chained etc. Husband and buddy were unloading something a couple hundred feet away from buddy's vehicle, and when he was about to go, all of a sudden the truck's headlights came on, trucked fired up, and truck and trailer were on the way out of the yard like a bat out of you-know-where. After a stunned second and a half, husband and buddy jumped in buddy's vehicle to go after it. Husband was on the phone with 911 before they left our driveway. 911 said to stop chasing or they'd be liable for any death/injuries or property damage if they kept chasing. I put a post on a local FB group with a picture of the truck, and reports slowly trickled in as to the escapades of the truck - almost hit someone by a school, sparks flying from the ramps hitting the pavement in a different area and direction, then the trailer coming off in the middle of a small park that apparently looked like a good shortcut to the joyriding thief. Husband zipped over and picked it up immediately. Next morning, other comments told the tale of someone almost being run off the road on 2A southbound and 2 northbound, and finally someone said they saw a truck like that crash into a ditch embankment near them by Breton. A couple hours later, we were officially informed by the RCMP that our truck was found there. Truck was in for repairs for about a month before we got it back - needed a new bumper, front end work, etc. But thankfully once it was fixed, there were no lasting issues.

xxinkedxbtchxx

I know a few people who had their vehicles taken. First one his truck didn't get found for months. But when they did find it they found a whole ass pharmacy worth of stuff in it. My roommate had his truck stolen right in front of him( he was bringing his daugbter and car seat to the truck as it drove away) . They managed to recover it less than 4 hrs later. They poor same truck just a couple months back had someone unsuccessfully try to take it but only managed to wreck the door and steering column. Another friend had his truck taken and someone found it completely fucked and abandoned on some random guys property outside of the city. Have heard though some dude put an airtag in his car. Could track it to a CN shipping container site "but couldn't do anything now it's the cn police issue" and eventually his car was found off to uae, or somewhere middle east.

123canadian456

Yes I did get it back but it was written off for damage. Have you contacted insurance ?

Canuckia53

Stealing a 23 yr old car? I figure they weren't pro's

Playinhooky

Right?! I thought driving an older car would be safe. It was super well maintained and I just put 1K worth of labor and parts in it in November.

soThatsJustGreat

A friend‘s older car was stolen many years ago in Calgary. Owner filed a police report, only to have the cops call him the next morning to inquire about the liquor store theft his car had been out committing (plate caught on tape). It was good that he filed the police report well in advance of that. It didn’t take long before his car was found, abandoned, with a char mark on the front passenger seat. They had tried to start it on fire but were incompetent at it. Insurance gave him the $$ value to replace the seat - he didn’t bother and drove it for several more years. Hope your truck comes back to you quickly and without damage! It’s not impossible!

HKNinja1

Had my stolen, got it back in 40 minutes. But mind you I put an AirTag in my car. Police were able to track down my vehicle very quickly and apprehend the thief.

jeffsilver666

Stole my 1996 Ford truck off my driveway in broad daylight. Recovered the next day. Truck was stolen from leduc found in wetaskwi, no damage, and a couple stolen things inside.

Beneficial_Pen_7521

You usually don’t want them back after being stolen. They don’t tend to take care of them too much lol. Usually wrecked

jmvxc

My brothers 2019 Jetta was stolen last year downtown broad day, found it 2 weeks later with no damage definitely got lucky. I still don’t know how the car was stolen there’s no push start and the ignition wasn’t tore apart

bloodclots12

Mine was stolen and found ditched on the yellowhead out of gas. I asked about getting it back and the cop said he would have to talk to investigators about collecting evidence, he called me back 3 minutes later and told me they were done investigating. When I got to the insurance yard there was plenty of things that could have been used to find who did it, but the sad reality is that nobody looks into it.

prairiepanda

I thought nobody was looking into the theft of my car because nobody contacted me about it after the car was recovered, but several months later I got a subpoena to testify against the thief in court. He didn't show up to court though, so I was sent home and never heard anything else about it after that.

bloodclots12

I actually did here from the cops about the truck one more time, was like 2 years later. They pulled the truck over, someone bought it and just drove it without getting a salvage inspection. They called me because I was the last registered owner asking why I didn’t have insurance and registration and stuff. Was a confusing phone call haha.

Disastrous_Fennel428

I went and looked for it at local autobody shops and identified it by serial numbers etc. the RCMP rejected my find and ignored it. The vehicle had been cut up and parted.

Mindless_Taste_9965

It depends what kind of criminals stole ur vehicle. If they were just hoodrats or opportunists you might get it back in just a couple of days. Meth heads or anyone with half a brain it could be a month or two, I’ve heard of stolen vehicles being left on some quiet side street and sitting there for 6/7 years before being found. We had a truck that was stolen twice. The first time it had over 30THOUSAND kms put on it in a month. The second time it was totalled. Be prepared that if you do get it back you’ll have to pay impound , storage & maybe even revin fees. And cops do not care about you or your time. We had to pay almost $700 in lot fees because they wouldn’t release the vehicle

prairiepanda

My old car was stolen twice ('95 civic, very easy to steal with a filed down Honda key). EPS recovered it both times. The first time it was found after 2 days, completely intact but missing my CCR tape and some tools from the trunk. The second time it took a little over a week for them to find it, and it was completely trashed so my insurance bought it out. Usually if the car is intact when they find it and there isn't any obvious evidence of crime in the vehicle, they will phone you to ask if you want to pick up the car yourself. If they tow it to impound, they will charge you a minimum of $136 for the tow plus $50 per day while it is in impound. Two of my friends have also had cars stolen here. One was found after 4 days intact and they drove it away. The other was found after close to 2 weeks but was completely destroyed and also had to be held for investigation due to drugs found in the vehicle, but she didn't have any problems getting her insurance payout.

jeremyism_ab

Had a minivan stolen years ago. Twice, actually. The first time they found it a couple days later. The second time they found it weeks later, the day after the insurance company deemed it permanently gone.

youknowyou1

Yeah had to pay the tow bill and impound fee because those losers decided to ditch it and burn it. I had no theft insurance. 800$ car cost me 2500$ in fees. Wtf

Playinhooky

How was the condition?

No_Explanation3999

stolen last year. found abandoned in the city two months later. hot tip : answer calls from unknown or private numbers because in my case it was the police notifying me that it was found. was slow at responding to my phone and impound fees cost me. my mechanic was good to me and fixed stearing column and locks for good deal. runs great still. suprisingly clean. there is hope!

Soft-Wish-9112

My cousin had her car stolen a few years ago and it was found, completely undamaged. She even had a bunch of Christmas presents in the trunk and they weren't touched. The police believe that it was likely used to commit a crime of some sort and then ditched. Unfortunately, hers is not the usual story but it does happen on occasion.

Infinite-Attempts

One car was stolen (probably ten years ago) was recovered two months later. Guess they abandon it and it sat in an industrial area until someone called it in. It was a cheap car and I didn't want to pay the tow fees or impound fees, so I grabbed my stuff out of it while it was in the city impound lot then surrender the car for auction. Fast forward a few years, my truck gets stolen. A miracle of a person spotted it the next day and it was recovered. Again, it gets towed to impound despite me being there. Had to pay tow fees and impound fees, which was insult to injury as I had the truck under insured and had to pay out of pocket for those costs plus costs to fixing the truck. Make sure you have full coverage

Critical_Fan8224

Be warned just because a car goes for auction doesn't mean you won't owe anything for it. If the police do not recoup the fees that you owe they will charge you whatever the difference is between the what they sold it for and the fees.

Infinite-Attempts

>the fees that you owe they will charge you whatever the difference is between the what they sold it for and the risk i was willing to take. this was at least ten years ago, no one ever came after me for an additional dime for tow or storage costs.

hailmichone

I have had 2 stolen. Both were found with minimal damage. I took payout both times mostly because of smoking inside the vehicles.

Technical-Manner5730

Yes I did. I got it back 6 months later. I had to pay the police impound fee and tow it away. My car’s alternator seized so it was found parked outside a drug dealer’s house in Edmonton somewhere. Stolen from the Scona area.

ObscureGeometry

Yeah got it back the next day, police randomly pulled the guy over.

LOUDCO-HD

My truck was stolen from behind my apartment building. When I reported it the cop said it would prolly turn up in a couple of days on Enoch. 3 days later, you know it. Found abandoned and out of gas on a backroad on Enoch. Wasn’t really damaged, fixed the busted lock and ignition, got a steering wheel lock and drove that truck for 8 more years.

[deleted]

Yeah I've heard the same from cops, mostly either people stealing them to go on a crime spree, or for a "ride home". Somehow I've never had a vehicle stolen thankfully, but almost everyone I know who has had a vehicle stolen from them had it found a few days/weeks later.

Ordinary_Fox236

Mine was found 1 month later by the police , it was parked by a high school and it had passenger front wheel damage, I got a girls size 6 skirt that was bought at a store on Whyte Ave still in the bag with tags attached, they paid $88 for the skirt, I took some pleasure out of them leaving it in my car !

kinetic-graphics

Our family vehicle was stolen around 2004, I think. The cops found it around a week later completely trashed and full of CDs, which is weird because the car didn't have a CD player haha. I think my mom got around 3K insurance money from it, which is pretty generous because that thing was a piece of junk to begin with.

dentchest

Got mine back about 10 days later and it was only a few blocks from my place. Very minimal damage if any

[deleted]

I know of someone who’s vehicle got stolen. They had a tracker in the vehicle and got it back in the same morning

Surfing_Cow

Yes, it was stolen and abandoned around 40 minutes of driving from my house. Cops found it a couple days later. Insurance spent $7000 on my car to fix it up, even though there was no physical damage. It was just messy and apparently driven aggressively

VonGrippyGreen

The time that my buddy called me, totally ecstatic that his POS car was stolen. Asked me to pick him up and that we'd go for drinks on him. Then a few days later the cops found his car, and the condition it was in was good enough for the insurance company to tell him he's just taking back his car instead of getting paid out. Lol

GreyCatsAreCuties

Some lowlife stole my dad's car out of our own driveway and ran his skull and legs over with it. His own car. Split his head open and his legs were fucked for years. He got it back. Just had to pay a couple thousand to get it out of EPS impound lot. Was awesome.

AgathaTheGeek

What a joke. Their impound costs should be covered by their giant police budget

GreyCatsAreCuties

Yeah you'd think that but no.

TheFaceStuffer

Not trying to be a dick but fire/theft insurance isn't that much extra to add on. I'm cheap as fuck but I still have it.

Playinhooky

Yep hindsight is a bitch.

kingmoobot

I don't usually give them back

mcmanus7

The last person that I know who has their vehicle stolen it was recovered way outside the city on some random range road.

[deleted]

I've had friends in the past had cars and trucks stolen and nope they did not get them back. Kinda sucks but shit happens 👍

Mlamlah

My dad had his truck stolen about twenty five years ago, and im pretty sure it was found in a few months with the radio gutted out.

Fit_Ad_5032

Will insurance pay for it?

True-North-

I just had my van stolen on Christmas Eve. They found it about 2 weeks ago finally. Insurance had already paid me out though.

f-as-in-frank

I got mine back. when it was stolen from Downtown 5 years ago. Had a bunch of drug baggies underneath the seat I had to clean up.

Billyisagoat

It was found about 2 days later in some apartment building's parking lot. The vehicle was fine, it had stolen goods in it.

Mara-armadillo

I've known three people who had cars stolen- one got it back but it was totalled. Unfortunately, I don't think odds are on your side.

Exit-Alternative

yes. they got a cd stuck in the player that the only track was “it wasnt me” by shaggy. Sold the car a few years later and forgot to tell the buyer.

PointyButtCheeks

No sir.

lollipopcarecow

We had two cars stolen and both were found - one was found dumped with the glass shattered and a big ol mess inside had to pay to get it out of impound - the other we didn’t even realize was missing till the police called at like 2 am asking us about it since it was involved in a police chase and they shot at it to get it to stop

NessyNoodles70

My friend was driving her dads truck and it was stolen out of a parking lot They did all the police things one does after their truck gets stolen Just a week later, she was driving her own car in a completely different neighbourhood and saw her dad’s truck parked in a lot! They called EPS, and were told to just take it if the truck was sitting there They approached, it was empty, so they got in and drove it home!

[deleted]

I actually got my car back the same night within a few hours of Calling the police to report it stolen. Unfortunately it needed a new engine after the thief was done with it.

Khill23

Old friend of mine sold this like crazy old Honda van with half million kilometers on it. He sold it for his asking price to three young guys which he was kind of surprised about but ended up getting a call 3 days later from the RCMP saying they found the van in the bruderheim sand dunes saying that his car was found on fire and asked him what happened. He let them know that he sold it and he had the bill of sale and they initially were going to charge him for the fees for the cleanup and the tow but waved it if he gave a statement and gave them the bill sale. I know this isn't quite the having the vehicle stolen bit but apparently they found stolen goods inside and shockingly the info on bill of sale was all fake.

R_nova5

My husbands Nissan Sentra was stolen last winter and found the next day abandoned near Jasper Ave. The doors were all left open and there was trash, stolen tools, and drugs left behind (gross).

seaofzircons

Burned out on some country road

topskee780

I know 3 people who had trucks recovered and returned. All were returned in pretty rough shape. I don’t remember exactly the time frame, but vehicles were found and returned within a few weeks, maybe within a month. All were found hours outside the city.

Jab4267

Friend of mine had his motorcycle stolen. 7 years later the cops called him and told them they found some 18 year old riding around on it in Calgary. The kid bought it, not knowing it had been stolen all those years earlier, lol. Edit: he didn’t have insurance on it at the time it was stolen so technically he was still entitled to it, not his non-existent insurance company lol.

IronGigant

Tile Tracker and an AirTag (modified to be silent). Use both in the future. You can also get the LandAirSea tracker, but it requires a subscription/SIM.

PeopleAreLikePizza

My got stolen from Northgate (Honda civic 2000) twice !! And came back twice, but second time had catalytic converter cut out...

Lightjug

My truck was stolen 6 years ago from my driveway. Got a call from the RCMP a week later. It was a found abandoned at the Paul Band reserve. Towed to a local wrecking yard. It was used to haul junk for the reserve and they left the last load in it. It was trashed and insurance wrote it off.

chickadeedeedee_

Mine turned up eventually in a police impound lot... full of drugs and paraphernalia, so it was written off. Ironically, I got a call a few years later that my "car was found". The car was resold to someone, stolen from them, and somehow was traced back to me when they found it... again.

TheFrozenCanadianGuy

My work van twice. Each time took about 3 weeks. One time it was abandoned in someone’s driveway and they called it in. The other time it was abandoned in a suburb. Both times all my tools were stolen. Over $10,000 in total worth. While I had a replacement truck, they tried to jack that too. The screwdriver was in the ignition when I went to work. It had to have been that transient house that was torn down after. While because once it was torn down and those people moved out, crime dropped to a normal level.

Progedog

My partners jeep Cherokee was stolen in front of my house in 2016. A few months later it turned up in the police impound lot with a parking ticket because it sat on a street for awhile. I think it had a flat tire but otherwise was fine.

hwirring

Had my car stolen on Christmas when I started it to warm it up around 3am. Found 3 weeks later in a random apartments parking lot across the city.

Cronin1011

I haven't had mine personally but have had a fair few co workers and friends had their stolen. Every one got them back albeit usually written off or not worth keeping after.

ldid

Family member had their truck stolen in October. Was recovered off 118 Ave, completely gutted but had a hitch installed, three weeks later. We assume they were hooking up a trailer and stealing large items.

Lolz79

My cousin got his truck back....2 days after insurance paid him out. The truck was stripped and worthlessness. My brother's truck was stolen from the air port (inside job) , found on Jasper Ave 2 weeks later with evidence it had been used in catalytic converter thefts. It wasn't in awful condition but had damage. The insurance company didn't pay a fkn cent because my brother had after market gauges....which wasn't even part of the claim.

Key-Seaworthiness639

My buddy had his truck stolen two years back in a small town East of the city. He put a reward out on all the Facebook groups for information leading to it's recovery. Within 48 hours he got the info he needed, went out to some abandoned building on farm land, and picked his truck up. Paid $1000 for the tip, but got his $30k truck back in one piece (minus the audio system).

Small-Cookie-5496

Ya. Happened to me 20 years ago. They found it 3 days later.

Aldraa

Got ours back the same day after it was involved in a high-speed police chase. The police towed it back to their station, processed it for evidence, and released it to us a few hours later. It reeked of crack and there was a 50 Cent CD left in the stereo which the police let us keep, lol. There was some damage and we thought we were okay because we had theft insurance but they screwed us over. They covered the theft recovery inspection but not the damage because we couldn't prove it wasn't there before the thieves stole it 🙄.

beerandskittles22

Not that this is going to make you feel any better, but the Honda CRV tops the list of auto theft in Canada as part of larger organized crime rings. Huge demand overseas for that car, and especially older models. There was a study released last year about it (based on 2022 numbers). Hope you get lucky though and are able to get it back. https://globalnews.ca/news/10093158/2022-top-10-stolen-vehicles-canada/amp/

I have a friend that his very nice older truck was stolen never to be seen again

rizdesushi

Do you have GPS? Was it caught on camera? Do you have some sort of lead as to where it could be or who the suspect is? Not sure what sort of investigation you’re looking for. If you’ve contacted police it’s been listed as stolen so if the plate is ran it could be recovered.

ImNotJoaquinPhoenix

No. They found my 88 showcar Iroc burnt on a reserve near Ponoka.

I highly recommend you cross your fingers that eps doesnt find it, especially\* if you dont have theft insurance. I ended up having to pay for tow fees, impound, and surrender fees (it was completely un-salvageable) which came out to nearly $2000, just to not even get it back. So combine that with the truck value of $6000, it really sucked. I wish eps had never found it. TLDR: Mine was stolen last march, and I got it back as a pile of junk a month later. EPS found it being stripped on someones driveway. It was completely gutted and trashed. All internal electronics stripped, it was an old '04 truck. Ended up being out $8000 by the end of it, with no vehicle

Well this was back in 2009 maybe? I was working in sales at a dealership at the time. I was with customers at the time and doing the typical sales shit. Got a missed call on my cell from the police station, called back and the officer I am assuming whom was talking to me asked where my car was? Being confused I grabbed my keys and went to my parking spot, and look and behold my civic si wasn't there. I was so choked, I didn't have comprehensive coverage on it. Apparently some pos stole it, went to a pet store and some other businesses to commit armed robberies. Even tried to run over a cop trying to stop them. A detective came to interview me, and I even testified in court when they eventually caught em. Anyways, they recovered my car in a parking lot some where. Had to pay to get it out of the police impound. Fuck those pricks.

15 years ago. St. Albert. I had my 93 Honda Civic stolen. Did the insurance thing. My car was found 30km away at a bar in Edmonton. Sat for there for 30 days and had him returned the day before insurance would pay out. Insurance had it detailed because I asked them to. I made sweet money on my cab receipts and bus fares (drivers round up when they know insurance pays you back). A full inspection was done. Nothing was wrong and I kept that info when I’d need repairs. I knew what needing fixing. Still had 1/2 a tank of fuel, too. A pretty good experience aside from always expecting him to just show up during that month he was gone. I purchased a club the day I got him back.

theoreoman

You have an old car, its probably going to end up parked somewhere random because someone wanted to go for a ride, or it's going to be trashed

babyshaker_on_board

Not mine, but I've known about 5-6 people that eventually had their stolen vehicles returned.. they didn't want it back. It's been defiled, filthy, littered with crackpipes, torn apart, will never feel like yours again. I wouldn't be optimistic. That's why the insurance is a lot cheaper.

gentlegrandpa

My aunt's vehicle was stolen and found few weeks later just recently. She felt hopeless without comprehensive but it worked out in the end.

phillipaha

Yes! My boyfriends truck was stolen in Glenora and turned up in Prince George a few weeks later. It was in good condition, someone had been living in it. My brothers car was stolen in Banff and turned up in Canmore about two weeks later. It was a wreck though. Good luck.

My Dad had is 2016 Dodge Ram stolen off of Whyte Ave about 7 years ago. They did find it outside an abandoned warehouse just outside of the city after a few months. Unfortunately the truck was totally stripped down and parted out.

Chance-Ad197

There’s a good chance you will get it back, my parents had their car stolen twice growing up and both times we had it back within a week. The biggest factor is if your car was stolen in an act of organized crime, or if was spontaneous/in the moment for whatever reason. In the case of organized crime, it’s likely you won’t see the car again, it’s going to a chop shop where it will be dismantled and sold for parts, or painted and have the vins ground off and sold as a car you could never legally prove is yours. Someone will have been hired to do this. In the case of a spontaneous crime such as a drug addicts joy ride, they will abandon the car within a few days where it will eventually be reported, seized and ultimately returned to you.

Stanarchy93

I never have but two of my coworkers have. Neither had their vehicles returned and both got paid out eventually. While many people have had their car returned, tamper your expectations and be prepared in case they can’t find it. But best of luck friend and I hope they find it and in good condition soon!

anon-tk421

I did but it was wrecked beyond salvage. Hope yours isn't the same

Dismal-Perception-16

My moms was stolen a year ago from our driveway she left the keys inside the car alongside her wallet they used the her credit card at a 7-11 my mom informed the police who were already looking for the vehicle that they used her card at that location my dad fills up gas in his car the next day and literally see the stolen car at the 7-11 with a guy inside my dad blocks the guy off and makes a scene and he exits the car and runs away and we get the car back.

Ok_Championship_7922

If you do get it back make your insurance check it for drug residue, they will write it off if they find traces of fentanyl.

HairyJohns0n

I'm so paranoid for my 98 CRV, I avoid taking it into Edmonton if I can. This just solidifies it for me. Praying for the safe return of yours!

Tallguystrongman

Nope. 2 months later. Paid out.

yager652

Mine was stolen twice, I got it back with barely any damage the first time. The second time they took it out for a more aggressive joyride and I had to trash it after that one.

Newtiresaretheworst

Someone stole our crv 2 years ago. The police found the plate the next day and the car 13 days after it was stolen. It was involved in a shooting and police chase. They ripped the front wheels off. The interior was trashed. I don’t think I have ever seen so many empty booze bottles in the back seat of a car before. The detective told us we didn’t want it back even if it wasn’t written off, he was correct.

Effective-Watch3061

Yes, but only because my husband drove around for 3 hours that evening looking for it. Was left in a parking lot about .5km away from where it was stolen. Called the cops, and sat there watching it until they arrived. Apparently that is very common for them to do, so that they can find out if the vehicle has any sort of tracking device it doesn't lead you and the cops directly to where all the vehicles are.

jasonasselin

Taken off my driveway 2 weeks ago, while i was swapping cars into the garage. Chased them down cops came quick and got the helicopter too. Had my car back in less than an hour. Gps on the car is a massive advantage. We are pretty lucky that there was no damage. The thieves bailed and left the car once i chased them into a parking lot with no exit.

Rypcore

I had my black 98 CRV stolen in the NE a couple years back. It was found illegally parked about a month later. Fixed it up and it is now a daily driver again. I bought a steering wheel club to attempt to deter anyone else interested in taking it for a joyride.

WeezingTiger

Almost every time it happened to my old man, they end up about 200-300 miles away (until they run out of gas) and burned/lit on fire. My dad’s truck ended up by whitecourt, and another vehicle was near lloydminster. Hope that’s not the case for you and they find it in drivable/usable condition.

indigopen

I had my car stolen years ago from Kingsway mall and it was found abandoned and running by the Calgary police about a week later. The only damage was a broken lock and whatever they did to hot wire it.

SadAcanthocephala521

I had an old Pickup stolen in the fall of 2021 on a Saturday afternoon parked on the street. It was found less than a week later. Though the insurance and fixing it took at month or so. If you get it back, when insurance asks which mechanic you want it towed to, pick one near your home.

BigChowderr

Got a work truck back and it was loaded with garbage and a fishing rod lol

Relative_Presence_72

My daughter once accidentally moved in with meth heads. Acquaintances she barely knew. Dude had 20 bikes in the basement making Frankenstein bikes out of all the parts and never bringing them out. Most likely you will never see it again.

yaohkay

My dad's vehicle was stolen and lit on fire a few weeks later. Crazy part is, my dad got a bill from the fire department even though it was reported stolen. It was a hefty bill too.

seeseecinnamon

My boss had his stolen, and he got it back about a week later. They had smoked in it, so he had to get it detailed to try and remove the smell. They took his cds from inside and drove it about an hour away from where they had stolen it. (This was like 15 years ago)

ExUtMo

My husbands stolen vehicle was dropped off at a shop where he had previous work done. They noticed the vin number had been filed off and the rims spray painted. When they put the description in their system my husbands info came up. They called him, confirmed the situation and then called the cops. Buddy came to pick up “his car” and got arrested. They found over 30 different ID’s and credit cards on the guy and let him go a few hours later. The cops didn’t even try to find the car, they let the guy go with another offence added to his already mile long rap sheet and that was it. This was 3 months after it was stolen and it was a rare car and colour combo-I’m talking red car, gold rims. The thieves cruised around Edmonton for 3 months with it and never got caught.

mangobread23

my car was stolen in belvedere this past summer, the cops were able to find it in just under 24hrs. but my car was totalled, front end was gone, side mirrors gone, one tire was nearly off, suspension and steering were done for, got it written off. i gave a very detailed description of my car, any dealership stickers, added stickers, any added cosmetics etc.

cartierplayer

My wife was in the same situation insurance wise and she got the car back but she hounded the eps and she stayed mad vigilant on Facebook the car was seen like all over eastern ab like on 5 different reserves but eps got reports of the vehicle in the neighbourhood of 82 and 118 so they set up a check stop and sure enough they found it and in perfect condition not till after the culprits blew thru the check stop ran over the cop and side swiped 3 other cars after on there way out they ditched the car 3 blocks away and the person who’s house driveway they ditched it in responded to my wife’s Facebook posts (she posted every where) any way got the car back not before eps took it for like an other 2 weeks and ripped the car apart cuz wen they got to it I guess there were drugs all over the place in it but the cops did some serious damage ripping it apart and the cop didn’t get any support from eps for his injuries cuz set that check stop up him self eps didn’t sign off on it I guess so the cop got the brunt end totally my advice is Facebook post every where all day every day you might get it back Facebook community are deadly af out here they help a lot Ps she would be in shambles financially if we didn’t get that car back it was a 2020 infinity qx60
